I don't know where to start but I can say that I rarely ever write reviews for anything unless I had a really bad experience but that was not the case with YC electric. My problem all started when the previous owner of my home had electrical work done to the home but never had a heavy up done so I was running a 200 amp breaker box with a 150 amp cable running from the breaker box to the meter and a 60 amp wire running from the meter to the pepco power line. About 6 months of living at my home a had an hvac/electrician come out and install an hvac system in my home so I could get rid of the old floor furnaces(water radiators) in my home. The guy installed it and must not have known what he was doing because I started having breakers trip often after he installed the hvac system until I decided to call my power company to come and investigate because i was informed by a friend who knows a little bit about electricity that I might be getting only half the power I should be getting from power companies transformer. The power company came out and told me that the meter they installed was not working properly and they will take it out and put jumpers in my meter box so I can still receive power to my home but just without a meter. I thought the power company resolved the problem because that seemed to solve the problem for about 3 months. After several calls to the power company to see when they would come and install my new meter they never came out until I called them back because the same thing started happening and this time only half my house had power. My power company came out again and noticed that my meter box and the jumpers started melting and were a couple of days from setting the house on fire so they decided to cut my power off for safety reasons and would not cut it back in till I hired a dc licensed electrician and had a dcra inspector come out. I googled dc electricians and Yc electric was one of first few companies on yelp so i called all the electric companies in the order they were in and some couldn't make it and some told me they would make it I finally reached Yc electric and spoke to Yi I explained my situation to him and he told me that he was at a job but after he finished there he would squeeze me in for a proposal. 2 hours later I got a knock at my door and it is YI with YC electric. I was not expecting him to be there so soon since I had appointments for proposals with other companies around the time he came but they called and said they were running late. Yi identified all the problems and said some of my wiring and equipment was still in great shape he also explained what he would do and then have me a quote. He went about his way and did not make me feel pressured to go with his company in any way as other companies that came throughout the day did. I received about 9 proposals that day and most companies said the same thing Yi told me and gave me about the same or the same price YC electric gave me and others said that they couldn't use my old wires and that they would have to make holes all throughout my home and they would not repair the holes they made so they can put in all new wiring and they also quoted me a ridiculous amount then other companies. After going through all the proposals I got I narrowed it down to three companies and YC electric was one of them. I reached out to all three companies and further interviewed them since I wanted to reassure myself that I was going to pick the right company . At about 8 o'clock at night I called YI and told him that I after going all the other companies I decided to go with YC electric. I am glad that i chose YC electric because I almost went with another company. An hour later I received an email from YC electric with the permit for the work to be done in my home. I also received a call asking if I received the email they sent. I asked when he can start the work and he told me that he would try to move other jobs around to et me next day service and that he would be out the next day about 9 am. The next day YC showed up right on time ready to work. Yi and his crew worked from 9am all the way till ten pm nonstop and got the work done in a day. After looking at the work that was completed you can tell that YC electric takes pride in their work. I felt that I underpaid for the work that was done because it was very neat and professional, there was nothing for me to clean up and they came across several problems with other wiring including the wiring for the hvac system that he did not charge me for I paid exactly what the proposal said and not a penny more. The owner Of YC electric Yi, was very humble, truthful and made sure the job was done right. If I ever need any more electrical work done I know exactly who to call from now on. read more

This is going to be a lengthy review as I feel that the work ethic and level of customer service that YC Electric provides warrants the time and effort to write. First let me say that I'm often wary (cynical even) when trying to find someone to do work on my home, be it electrical, plumbing, etc. I've read too many horror stories about people who are left with dodgy work and end up spending an arm and a leg for less than satisfactory work. However, with this company it isn't the case. A couple of weeks ago I noticed that the lights in my home began to flicker and slightly dim. I didn't think anything of it for the first day or so until the flickering began to get worse. I contacted YC Electric the following day and left a voicemail to schedule an appointment, of which Yi contacted me shortly thereafter. At that time I was running errands and wouldn't be back home until 7:00pm so I scheduled an appointment for the following day. Yi contacted me on my way home and offered to stop by that evening to take a look at the issue and see if he could diagnose the problem. Initially it had seemed that a dodgy (dated) surge protector was the culprit, as everything seemed to settle after the surge protector blew, so he left and instructed me to keep an eye out for any other fluctuations, and if we noticed anything, to contact him immediately. The following day my electrical issues began to get worse, to the point where sparks were randomly coming through electrical sockets and the lights dimmed and brightened to extreme. Unfortunately, no one could come that day to take a look at the issue so my boyfriend and I resigned ourselves to cutting the main electricity breaker off while we weren't home, and sleeping with the electricity completely off to prevent a potential house fire. Yi did contact me and said that he would be at my house the following morning at 9:00 AM to look at things more thoroughly as he didn't have the time (he didn't leave my home until 9:30 the first evening) or lighting to see if he had missed anything. Yi and his colleague went through my entire home socket by socket, looked at all the fixtures, panels, and outside electrical hardware. After several hours, Yi finally instructed me to contact my power company right away and specifically say that a "loose/broken neutral" was causing my electrical issues and that someone needed to come out immediately. That afternoon my electric company confirmed Yi's diagnosis and fixed our electrical issues. I was happy that our electrical issues were fixed which definitely gave me peace of mind as I lost a lot of sleep worrying over my home those few days. But I can't stress how impressed and grateful I was for the care and time that YI and his colleague put into fixing my issue. A few things definitely stick out for me: 1.) I paid Yi for the first evening's work, which he gave me a discount because I used Yelp to find him (I had an Angie's List subscription but have not much luck with contractors from that list). 2.) Though he couldn't make it that following day after stopping by my home that first evening, he assured me that he would be at my home the following morning promptly at 9:00 AM. 3.) He was very thorough and kept me in the loop of the whole process and explained everything that he was doing as he was doing it and voiced any concerns he had (e.g. shoddy wiring by previous contractors, future issues, etc.) 4.) Yi was very easy to contact initially, responded promptly, and even late into the evenings (after 7pm) Yi was still accessible, which allowed us to report additional (new) symptoms/ issues we noticed to help him diagnose our electrical issue. 5.) Yi contacted me a day later to follow up and see if the issue was resolved. (Thankfully it was!) 6.) What stuck out most however, was even after spending five hours combing through every single part of my home and finally diagnosing the problem as an issue on my power company's end, Yi didn't want to charge me for his services because he didn't catch the issue the first time around. That last gesture alone speaks volumes on the pride, professionalism, quality, and ethics that YC Electrics puts into his work. Its rare to find this level of service in any industry, especially in one where I always feel a level of apprehension in hiring someone to fix something about which I am completely unknowledgeable. YC Electric will now be the only electrician that I contact for any electrical work and I am more than happy and confident in referring him to anyone who is need of a trustworthy and reliable electrician. read more

Yi was excellent he worked me into his schedule and was able to accommodate my schedule so I could have the electric work done and still make it to my job. I called Yi because a breaker tripped I tried to reset it but it kept tripping. Yi arrived on time and began work immediately. He checked the electric panel and informed me water was in the panel he also said the breaker that had tripped was bad maybe because of the water he also found a second breaker that was bad he replaced both he tested the rooms where the original breaker had caused power loss the lights came on but went off again in about 1 minute. Yi then said that something must be shorting out the circuit. He spent time troubleshooting the ceiling light fixture, wall switches and outlets on the affected circuit. After a long process of elimination he found the problem! He discovered that an outside pole light with a photo sensor had wiring issues he examined the wires tested it and that was indeed the issue. Yi let us know he disconnected the power to the outside light and that we should not use it. He said to repair it would be expensive involving jack hammering the stoop and brick foundation in which the pole was placed. Alternatively he suggested we install a light to the outside of the house next to the door which we did not have he said he could retire from the inside cut the dry wall and install the new light fixture Yi also showed merge source of the water coming into the panel and fixed tat he also replaced an old two prong outlet with a new three prong one. Very very happy with his professionalism work ethic clear explanation passion for his work and fair prices. We will get the light installed and also have him retire our disposal. If everI need electrical work in the future I will certainly have Yi to do the job I highly and without a doubt recommend Yi you will be very satisfied if you hire him! read more

This is my second yelp review for YC Electric. My first one was in 2014. I suddenly realized I've been using them for my electrical needs now for over 10 years. I have never even considered trying anyone else. Not only that but since I myself have a little understanding of electrical repairs, Yi is there for advice and support. I keep coming back to this word, meticulous! I'm incredibly picky and YC meets my standards every time. Before I list all the services I've hired them for let me say that not once have I ever had to do wall or ceiling repairs after they finished even though they say there could be some cuts that might require it. Here are the jobs, that I can remember, that YC has done for me: Recessed lighting on two separate levels of my town-home, ceiling fans with junction boxes in my spare bedrooms, outdoor GFI plugs, under-counter kitchen cabinet lighting, track lighting, additional outlets wherever I needed them around the house, outdoor breaker box and cord for my heat pump, speaker wires from my lower level sound system to the second and third floors via a conduit outside, and installation of an attic fan with switch. I first heard about Yi on my community's neighborhood listserv and I have gladly recommended him to my friends, neighbors and relatives and will continue to do so. You will not be disappointed with his company. I've watched it grow and just today visited their website for the first time. What a journey! Don't be afraid to get on board and enjoy the ride. I might add that you do get what you pay for. YC pricing is extremely fair and while you might find a cheaper price, you will not likely find better work. Yi is an excellent electrical contractor and he has a fantastic team. I would recommend him without any reservations. He is very responsive and provides clear and accurate information as to what needs to be done and how to minimize costs. I find him very pleasant, knowledgeable and professional. And if that's not enough, he is also very mindful of your time constraints and does his level best to complete the work within the agreed timetable. I engaged him to complete a heavy up service, remove some light fixtures in the kitchen and replace them with new ones, repair and restore faulty and burnt out landscape lighting and damaged wiring and install extra landscape lighting, replace some outdoor transformers, install outdoor motion lights and repair a few outdoor light fixtures. Yi also surprised me by preparing a tiny opening from the exterior wall into the ceiling of the basement for the successful installation of FIOS cable without drilling a hole through the dining room wall as determined by several Verizon contractors. Throughout the process, Yi constantly checked on his team's work and kept me advised of the progress. On a couple of occasions, when his team was otherwise occupied, he stepped in personally to handle the work, so that it was completed on schedule. Then, weeks after all the work was completed, he stopped by my home, at no cost, just to check if everything was working and in good order. How's that for service? The costs were reasonable and I couldn't be happier about the outcome. I will definitely engage him for any and all electrical work that I may need in the future. read more

The work: Yi and his team installed in-ceiling overhead lighting in multiple rooms, two ceiling fans, dimmer switches, television installation, and some very complex in wall cable wiring. The YC Electric team walked me through the details of the installation and informed me areas of concern where extra drywall cuts may be warranted. That being said, Yi did an incredible job minimizing unnecessary cuts, which saved my family a lot of money. After the job was complete, Yi followed up to ensure I was happy with the quality. YC Electric, LLC is a wonderful company. They really take the time to explain and assess your issue. They really go above and beyond the call of duty to make sure that you have a clear understanding of your problem and then they get it done. Some of the compelling experiences that I have had with YC Electric are when they make repairs. Their repairs are very non-intrusive when relocating electrical outlets, installing ceiling fixtures, or any adding new electrical outlets. They really take extreme care while doing demolition and/or opening walls and ceilings. They always let you know ahead of time what walls and/or ceilings that must be opened in order to accomplish the job. Most electrical companies I have worked with usually open your walls/ceilings and tell you after the fact. Since the first time I called Yi and that was over nine years ago, some of the work he have done for me and my wife have been installing all types of inside/outside light fixtures, electrical outlets, electrical stove and garage heater, attic fans, security lights, certified and installed electrical panel at my rental property, and upgraded my whole house generator. What I really appreciate the most is that YC Electric, LLC do not allow you to overspend for repairs and services that you do not need. It is very refreshing to know that there still honest and knowledgeable companies out there that have only one concern and that is total customer service. read more

Yi is an architect of light! I engaged Yi at the end of August 2015 to install eight recessed lights and a ceiling fan in my living room (along with a few other odds and ends in the bathroom and bedroom). I could not be happier. The recessed lighting is perfectly linear - Yi even lined it up with other meridians in the room (the other ceiling lights and the windows). The ceiling fan is expertly centered in the room, equidistant from the surrounding recessed lights. My ceiling is a masterpiece of geometry! In addition to being very exacting with his work, Yi was professional and on-time. He provided a free estimate, which was exactly what he charged me after the work. He left the work space clean and tidy. He didn't have the right cover for my new ceiling fan switch, so he returned that Saturday to install it (he probably would have been back the next day, but I couldn't meet him until Saturday, so he worked around my schedule). On top of it all, Yi is friendly and has a "can-do" approach to working with clients. For example, another electrician had protested when I asked about installing the ceiling fan I wanted because the particular make was difficult to install, but for Yi, it was no problem. I got exactly what I wanted it, when I wanted it, and for what I expected to pay. YC Electric has my highest recommendation. read more

Yi probably doesn't even need any more outstanding Yelp reviews (which is how we found him), but here is another one. We needed to ground nearly all of the outlets in our new home and also install GFI outlets. However, when Yi came by we inquired about the possibility of doing recessed lighting in our living room (which we thought was out of our price range), and Yi told us it would be totally feasible. In the end, Yi and his team did all of the outlets, changed our switches and dimmers, and installed the recessed lighting over the course of a day and a half. He and his partner were extremely professional and hugely competent. We were really happy with the result, and also just so impressed by how helpful, honest, and attentive Yi was. He texted us throughout the process, and made an extra trip by the house to walk us through what he'd done. And then, when a small electrical issue (unrelated to Yi's work) came up when we were out of town, he came by our house free of charge to fix it. We will definitely be working with Yi again for all our electrical needs. I should also note that I had two other electricians bid on this work, and Yi was not only the most professional and competent-seeming but significantly less expensive than the other options. read more

I highly recommend YC Electric for all electrical needs. I made the mistake of calling Mr. Sparky for a home Fuse Box replacement, and complete replacement of wiring out to the utility pole. After 2 hours of negotiations with Mr. Sparky representatives their estimates started at $5,500 and dropped to $4,500 if I would sign an agreement with them that day. They put a strong pressure tactic on me. I took pictures of my site and sent them to Yi Chang , the owner of YC Electric and he personally came out to my home renovation site that same day. Within the first 20 minutes he diagnosed my issues and clearly discussed my options, as it turned out Mr. Sparky was charging me double the price for labor and providing a lower gauge wire then is typically recommended. I was speechless! YI provided a firm fixed price estimate saving me 50% off the Mr. Sparky estimate and provided a heavier gauge wire! Yi and his team secured the necessary permits and performed the job with great professionalism and excellent quality while saving me 50% off of my first estimate. We hired Yi Chang over the summer of 2014 to rewire our basement, kitchen and living room after a nightmare contractor experience that left our home with multple fire hazards related to poorly completed electrical work. Yi also installed recessed lighting in our kitchen, basement, and living room. We cannot speak highly enough of Yi. He is extremely knowledgeable, responsive, responsible, and very efficient. He did a GREAT job in our home. Our guests are always complimenting us about the lighting in our living room, kitchen and basement when they visit. What we like best about Yi is not just that he does excellent work, he is personable and very professional. He takes his time to explain to you what he is doing and very willing to take the time to answer any and all questions. He clearly takes pride his work and went above and beyond to the make sure we as his clients were happy and confident in the work he completed in our home. He is also very neat. Yi is absolutely top notch. I called him for an estimate after an HVAC contractor left me in the lurch in the middle of a new unit install, unsure whether my rooftop component could run on the existing electrical and recommending an unspecified upgrade (including recommending rewiring that turned out not to be necessary). Yi was truly great in all the ways that matter: he came out the day after I called, he assessed the system and explained to me in an easily understandable way what actually needed to be done to run my rooftop unit, got me a written quote the same day for a very fair price, and then was able to complete the upgrade that very afternoon. He rearranged his schedule to do that without my even asking (or expecting) him to be able to squeeze me in because he realized what a bad spot my HVAC contractor had put me in. A lot of contractors I have worked with might have tried to sell me on the bigger and unnecessary job the HVAC guys were recommending. But Yi's just not that kind of guy, and it shows in his work. He's in this business for the long haul, and I am extremely grateful for his candor, his timeliness, and the good job he did with my upgrade. You can't go wrong with him. read more

These guys are as good as it gets. They are extremely response to all forms of communication (phone, text, email) and they think ahead to make sure that they have all the tools needed to repair the item in question. For example, I had a clogged pipe and I live in a 70-year old house. The owner asked me to take a photo of the pipe's connection to the wall and send it, to ensure that he had all of the necessary tools. Several contractors have passed through my house so I know what it's like to be disappointed because they could not finish a job on time, because they were missing one part or another. The owner treats your house as if it is his own and is very good at explaining a problem, the solution, and how problems can be prevented in the future. He did some repairs for me over the weekend and as he was leaving, noticed that my outside drain pipe had fallen from its connecting pipe. He sent his partner to van to get a couple of tools and fixed it right on the spot. I have been a customer for several years and have never been disappointed with the work. I highly recommend YC Electric if you want a contractor who is timely, honest, and does a great job. read more

BEST ELECTRICIAN EVER! Ok, I thought I wrote a review the first time Yi came over, but I guess now I have ever more to talk about. I've used YC Electric twice now in the last couple months (for totally unrelated problems), and we're moving and can't wait to use him again in our new home! Firstly, he has ridiculously good response time. The first time I had a problem, I called 3-4 electricians I found on yelp, they all gave me prices which varied and a possible day they could come (all of which were not soon). Yi, said, he wanted to see the problem before giving me a quote. Good thing, because what I was asking was impossible and no one bothered to check except Yi. Even with the complication, he price was so competitive and he was able to fit me in the day after the estimate! So, second time around, I called at like 6 or 7 pm on Tuesday night, and he was able to come the following Wednesday morning to take care of the problem. I value my time, and find it insulting when others don't. I couldn't ask for more with YC Electric. About the work, fast, professional and excellent. Can't wait to work with him again. read more

The gist, YC Electric is the way to go. Super responsive, great price and excellent work. We wanted to move an outlet up a few inches. Sounds simple, and we saw someone do it in our bathroom. So we tore open the wall and found out the wiring was too short. So I called 3-4 companies (most based on yelp reviews) and priced out the job. Yi, gave me a huge range over the phone and asked to come over so he could give us a better estimate. Right away, he notice, we had a bigger problem and a supporting beam is where I wanted to move the outlet. He suggested an alternative (better) solution. and a price. He was the only one to come look at the job and explain what I wanted was impossible. And his price was the best of the ones I found. So, I contacted him the next morning and he came that afternoon! Awesome turn around time! He was professional and super thorough. We asked him tons of questions about other potential projects we had in mind and he was super helpful both with pricing more complicated electrical work and giving us tips on how to do things ourselves.
