Imagine a business where you walk in and all the products on the shelves have no price. You ask the cashier how much something costs and they say you have to pay $5 to know the price. Would you shop at that store? No, of course not. Well this company does exactly that. They refuse to give you a cost estimate, no matter how basic the job or how detailed you describe the problem, until you pay them $70 to come out to your house. Dear Yelpers, please please do NOT normalize this greedy practice by giving this company or any company that does this your business. They'll say it's a standard industry practice. It is not. There are many honest services out there that offer free cost estimates and don't try to manipulate you to buy their products. They'll also say the fee is to compensate for the time that the technicians spend coming out, but that's just being dishonest. That $70 sure as hell ain't going to the worker. If they're being dishonest before you even hire them, think about what else they'd be dishonest about. Please stay away. I requested two projects from Castro at a great value, and let me tell you, I'm positive I was a big nuisance in the mix of it all. My goal was to get a tankless water heater. Problem? My unit could only handle 200 AMPs. But that's not all! During ongoing renovations, I found out the wrong disconnect wire was connected to my meter and could only support 150 AMPs instead. Long story short, I requested 400 AMPs (so I wouldn't have to cut into my angry neighbor's condo ever again), and the Castro team fed a new line to the meter. After the plumbers installed the water heater, I requested the final service from Castro to power the heater. Everything is working great, and I'm so happy to have worked with this team to the very end! read more

After they came, told me they need $727 to do a simple outlet addition, though they led me to believe it would be cheaper when I scheduled. Seems a lot of people have this issue, maybe since the company was sold. They were good for some simple lighting things when they came a few months ago, but I guess things changed. "Ali and Shazeen run Castro Electrical Services with a simple philosophy: treat customers like family and employees like partners." That's not true - your family wouldn't estimate one price as a low end and then charge 3X that amount, when there are no special factors in the job. They say they don't do estimates on the phone, but since they add tons of outlets, they looked at some data and said the job is $250 at the low end, but other factors could increase the price. To really know, they'd have to come and see. I figured they were nice enough before, so they wouldn't charge something crazy, because they wouldn't want to lose a customer AND get turned down. Well, they came out and said there was nothing special about the task, and concluded it would be $727. So I just paid their $69 dispatch fee and said no thanks. They should just refuse to provide any numbers on the phone, and then I wouldn't use them, and it would save me a lot of time. Other places with good reviews are quoting about half the price online. That's also what various online price estimators say. It's not that hard to quote online or over the phone. They look at some pictures, ask what the existing outlets and circuits are like, and use their past experience. read more

We've used Castro Electric a couple of times now, they installed a new chandelier in my house, & fixed some electrical stuff in a rental unit we own so we'd pass the town's Rental Housing office inspection, which then also included Castro scheduling and meeting the county inspector for an upgrade to the outlet the fridge is plugged into, which had been incorrectly installed. Can't speak to the quality of their workmanship but had a very disappointing experience trying to get an estimate. The technician, Jorge showed up late but what was most disturbing to me was that he asked me to sign a contract on his notepad and when I told him that I'm not ready to sign anything, he insisted for me to sign in order to get an estimate. I told him that I never sign anything without reading the fine prints at which point he got upset and just left. I tried calling the office but they never answer their phone. I have now used Castro a couple times and have had consistently positive experiences. Most recently, Zane and William came to install some outdoor lighting and one indoor light. To begin, they informed me that the (very reasonable) quote I had been given was actually too high, and that they were going to charge me 20% less. Can't complain about that! I have to say that my experience with Castro Electrical Services was disappointing and not the outcome I was expecting. I was told there would be a $69.00 fee to have the technician come out and assess the problem. If I had the work done, the $69 fee would be removed. However, within moments from the technician arriving, that fee turned to $255 if I wanted the problem diagnosed, and they make you sign for it. In hindsight, I should have called the office or asked him to leave. After less than an hour I was provided with a $937 estimate to re-wire a line that the technician never saw. He did not go up in the attic, but just assumed that was the case. Then I found out the diagnostic fee would not be credited if I had the work done by them. I am writing this review to alert consumers of my experience. Castro Electrical Services has sent me several emails and texts to give them a review. So here is my feedback. On the morning of March 11, 2024, I had the pleasure of meeting Electrician Andrew and Sheriff with Castro Electric Services. Prior to hiring this company, I had countless misfortunes of employing license companies to perform the job of installing several 3-way switches and a 4-way switch. Only those close to me know the tears that I've cried before finding this company. Therefore, I'd like to express my deepest gratitude to this team!!! I must say Andrew was the brains behind fixing my problem!!! He was extremely frustrated with the way the previous electricians left the job, but determined to correct the problem. Words can't express my gratitude to him. Whereas, it was Sheriff's first day on the job, he pretty much was there to observe and take notes, however his customer service was beyond exceptional. He was extremely polite, professional and personable, and kept me informed of the progress, all of which was important for me, given that I dealt with bad attitudes, unprofessionalism in incompetence in the past. Once the job was completed I was frighten to receive the bill, but in comparison it wasn't too bad, given what the others charged me and wasn't able to fix the issue. I would be remised, if I didn't acknowledge Michael, the person who scheduled my appointment. My call was taken promptly, I wasn't put on hold for any great deal of time and when I called back with additional questions pertaining to another possible issue Michael returned the call within minutes. I have since received a quote for that job and will be scheduling them to come out to address that problem in a few weeks. I have since deleted all other electrical companies from my contact list, and Castro Electrical Services is the only company that I will call and refer to others moving forward. read more
