What I expected to be a routine cosmetic procedure unfortunately resulted in a much more difficult outcome for me (photos attached). Shortly after the treatment, leaky blisters formed, and about a week later they developed into scabs on the treated areas. When the scabs eventually came off, many areas appeared indented and concerning. During virtual follow-up consultations, I was told the healing process appeared to be normal. However, my skin continued to worsen, and I later sought care at an emergency room, where the injuries were documented as burns and I was referred for dermatologic follow-up. Avalon Laser offered additional treatment options, including a CO laser session or microneedling at their facility, and also suggested that I see a dermatologist in the Los Angeles area. I did undergo one CO laser session with Avalon Laser, but I ultimately decided not to continue treatment at the clinic because I no longer felt comfortable proceeding there. To their credit, the clinic checked in with me virtually on a regular basis and offered encouragement during the healing process. However, my recovery has been much longer and more challenging than I expected based on how my skin appeared. Since then, I have consulted with several specialists and undergone multiple treatments in an effort to improve my skin. The recovery process has been lengthy, painful, and uncertain. The clinic refunded the cost of the original treatment, which I appreciated, but it has not come close to covering the many additional medical visits, treatments, medications, and skincare products I have needed since then. The emotional impact has also been very difficult. For weeks I struggled to sleep and often cried at night. I became withdrawn and stopped seeing friends because I felt embarrassed about my appearance. What began as a simple cosmetic procedure has turned into a long and ongoing recovery. I attempted to pursue compensation through legal counsel and sent a demand letter, but I did not receive a response. I also followed up by email without success. I am sharing my personal experience so that others can be aware and carefully consider their options before undergoing treatment. Wasn't for long as they called me in to fill out a questionnaire inside one of the treatment rooms. Overall, staff was very friendly. Service was excellent. They even had me put a cold compress on my forehead to numb any pain from the injections (I have never seen that before at any other botox/dysport office and I have been to many). On the Groupon itself, it says at the top that you can buy additional certificates after a minimum of 30 days - which is another thing I have never seen anywhere else. Most places only let you use a Groupon once, or once per year.

He did not go over the procedure before he did it nor aftercare instructions. He gave me a "you'll be fine" and sent me on my way. My experience did not align with all of the five star reviews and I would not see him again purely out of his lack of people skills.

He made me feel at ease and I am fortunate that he was my surgeon. However, the rest of the staff at MISNC treated me unprofessionally and very poorly- the worst of which was Melanie, Dr. Grove's medical assistant. Even though my PCP put the referral in as urgent, it still took almost a month just for a consultation because, and I quote, "How do we know you have a hernia? If you're in pain you should just go to the ER and you won't even have to come here." Back and forth with my PCP about the surgeon "not having my note" and no diagnostic ultrasound was ordered. My PCP said they would order it. The surgeons medical assistant said he won't see me until I have one. So they were just going to make me wait one-two-three- four weeks for just a consultation. They wouldn't even let me make an appointment with the doctor just to talk to him!!!! PCP calls me back and orders the ultrasound. Then and only then did they finally make me an appointment. Three weeks of being told "they don't have the notes" and "doctor hasn't read my notes" to "how are we supposed to know you have a hernia? Just go to the ER." Got scheduled for surgery a month after consultation- mind you they are supposed to call within 72 hours for urgent or 7-14 business days for routine. THREE WEEKS LATER, I finally call their scheduler and ask what's going on- get a bunch of excuses about they're busy and booked up until the end of January. My referral was initially entered to consult with surgeon in the middle of October. Surgery referral was approved 11/20. She finally calls me back and apologized and offers me Dec. 11th. I had my surgery yesterday and everything went well, Dr. Grove was fantastic and did a great job. Fast forward to today and the wound is bleeding some and I'm having massive pain upon ambulation. Post op nurse at the hospital advised me to stop taking the ibuprofen and call surgeon ASAP. I called and left message. An hour later the MA calls me back and once again- her only words of advice were "Since you're in pain with bleeding you should just go to the ER." Twice now she's pawned me off saying not their problem- I should just go to ER. No different meds or anti-inflammatories. No office visit to check sutures. Just go to the ER. I tell you, I've never been treated so poorly as a patient in all of my 36 years. I've had children and this was my fourth overall surgery. Dr. Grove, your office staff does not do you justice. I have no desire to go back for my two week post op visit. I have no faith whatsoever in the staff at MISNC. If I wasn't under an HMO, in pain, and just wanting to get this over with, I would have definitely gone somewhere else. They obviously "were busy" and made me feel discarded and like a nuisance. ***Fast forward to July 2020. Horrific episode of nausea and vomiting. See PCP via telehealth after finding a protrusion at surgery site from Dr. Grove 12/2019. She recommended a new surgeon when informed about poor experience here. Saw a new surgeon less than one week later who is going to fix the now incarcerated recurrent ventral hernia, wish I was not in this position. Never once did I have to play phone tag with new office. Surgery scheduled next Monday to finally fix what should have been done with Dr. Grove. Sad about my overall experience here and wish it didn't have to warrant a second surgery to fix what he quoted were "indestructible sutures."
