I got a benign mass removed from my left eyelid from Dr. Iyengar. He is a skilled surgeon and removed the mass well. However, his bedside manner is a zero. He was very chop chop in and out and treated me like a paycheck. He walked in with loops on, told me frankly that he would remove the mass and then numbed me up and cut it out. He did not go over the procedure before he did it nor aftercare instructions. He gave me a "you'll be fine" and sent me on my way. I was so excited and confident in this office and doctor and couldn't wait for my blepharoplasty that I'd booked several months in advance. Due to a scheduling error on their behalf I was forced to reschedule which was difficult and stressful considering the hurdles I had go through to get the time off. Then a second time they asked to reschedule me for a family emergency. I had used all my vacation time for this and could not retract it, therefore I could not reschedule. I came to Dr. Iyengar after years of searching for the right Doctor to perform my eyelid surgery. You don't want the Doctor that did your boobs to do your eyelids, right? No, what you want is an Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon. The first impression when you arrive to his office is his incredible staff. You can tell he promotes a very comfortable work environment and everyone is very chill and friendly. Had my consultation, scheduled my surgery for 2 weeks later. The day of surgery I was a bit anxious and nervous; especially knowing I was going to be awake for the procedure. What a waste of emotion...When I got into the chair, Dr. marked up my eyes, showed me what he was going to remove and said "what music do you like?" I named a few bands and then he said "Alexis, play Pearl Jam". Honestly, the numbing was so quick, 2 hair thin needle injections on the outside of each eyelid and it was done. Your eyeball is covered and you don't see anything but most importantly, you don't feel anything! So there I was, completely relaxed, rocking out to Pearl Jam, and in 35 minutes I was done! After this numbing wore off I felt a little sore but nothing the ice pack didn't take care of. The next day I felt no pain. I never even took a Tylenol, honestly! I did every thing I was supposed to do, as instructed by his surgical nurse, and at my 6 week post operative appointment you can not even see where the surgery happened. My eyes look amazing, I'm wearing mascara again, I have regained my peripheral vision and my confidence is at an all time high. I could go on and on but the result of my surgery is OUTSTANDING!! Dr.Iyengar is a skilled eyelid surgon. Really nice and personable. His assistant Christine is excellent . Unfortunatly I did not have the results I was expecting . I am a male over 60 with bags under my eyes. When I went to see Dr. he said he could do a 30% chance of improvement. I said 30% is better than none so I schedule my surgery . $5200 becaue I had to go under. He cut into my lash line to lift up the skin. No visable stiches . Then he pulled the sids back . Again no visable stiches. He alse removed fat pads. Healing was very good. Very little pain. I went back two weeks later and was encouraged by my results. As time wore on the bags the bags came back. I scheduled a revision . He tacked to bottom lids back further. Very little improvement. I went back again to have this done again and he did more tacking but with no better. My right eylid dropps one millimeter lower that my left. He said he cant fix it. 2 years post surgury my eye bags look the same as when i first went to see him. For the money it cost me I expected a better results. I am now looking at some filler to flatten out my bags. Like I said he is a fantastic surgon. I've been seeing Dr Iyengar for a couple of years now. He did my upper blepharoplasty and does my Botox. He is an incredible surgeon and injector, as well as a genuinely nice and friendly guy. I'm 72, and with the sagging skin of my upper eyelids I knew I wanted to have a blepharoplasty. For one thing, I was noticing in photos of me smiling, one eye (which has always been smaller than the other) looked completely closed, so I looked cockeyed or drunk or worse! This could not stand! So...I did a lot of research and decided to go with San Diego Eyelid Specialists and Dr. Iyengar rather than a plastic surgeon who does other surgeries too. I wanted mine done by an licensed Ophthalmologist who specializes in this particular surgery. I am SO glad I did, the results are everything I hoped for. Subtle enough that to others I just look "less tired" but to me the difference is dramatic, especially when I look at myself in the mirror first thing every morning and I look all bright-eyed and--yes, YOUNGER. Plus the difference between my left and right eye is less obvious. The actual surgery was not too painful. The most pain I felt was on the drive home, but then after that it was negligible and within 2 weeks I was able to wear eye makeup. Dr. Iyengar and his staff are wondeful. Dr. Iyengar at San Diego Eyelid specialists is the absolute best at what he does. Extremely professional and talented. Dr. Iyengar performed a lower lid blepharoplasty on me. Most doctors only remove the "bags" (extra fat) from under the eye area leaving patients with a hollow look. Dr. Iyengar skillfully removed the fat and then repositioned it to leave me with a full and natural looking appearance . No "hollow" look and no fillers! Minimally invasive with him entering from the inside of my eyelid. No external incisions making recovery a piece of cake. All I needed was Tylenol to manage the mild discomfort after the procedure. If I had it to do over again, I would do the procedure a 1000 times. I can't believe I waited so long to do it in the first place. I can truly say that Dr. Iyengar has changed my life. I work at a surgery center in Encinitas that Dr. Iyengar does surgery at. First off, every nurse I work with raves about his technique in the OR. He is not just a good eye surgeon, he is gifted. I'm talking blow your mind skill when it comes to eyelid surgery. I actually go to him for my botox injections now. I have been a faithful fan of botox for at least ten years and when he does my botox, it's perfect. Never too much, just right! I am definitely planning on going to him in the next year for eyelid surgery/blepharoplasty. I referred a friend to him and she couldn't be happier. I had the misfortune of meeting Dr. Iyengar last summer when some a-hole let go of his surfboard and it popped me in the eye pretty good. Check out the pictures below. The Dr. was very professional and courteous in this time of personal crisis. The total stitches were 8 in the eyebrow and 5 in the eyelid. Btw, I don't recommend doing anything that would cause you to get stitches in your eyelid. That was horrific. Dr. Iyengar followed up with me on two separate visits to make sure that my eye was healing up ok. Everything was on track since I had followed his instructions for care to the letter.
