Typically I go grocery shopping later in the day, meaning when I walk past this bakery it is…read moreusually shut for the day. On this particular day, it was supposed to rain in the afternoon, so I thought I would get to the grocery store in the morning (cat litter in a non-waterproof backpack sounded like a disaster waiting to happen). As I was walking home around noon, I noticed that the bakery was still open. I hadn't bought anything for lunch, so I though I would stop in and see if they had any pasties. Unfortunately they were out of meat and potato pasties, but the lady mentioned that they had a meat and potato pie. So I went with that instead. They also have sandwiches and of course all of the sweet treats and breads. I managed to control myself and get out with just the pie. The pie was a decent size and fairly inexpensive. It was also piping hot! The pie was a bit on the greasy side, but it was spiced nicely and I ended up only eating half and saving the other half for later. On another day I stopped in and decided to try one of their sweet treats. I spotted a Custard Slice and I can never pass one of those up (why we don't have these in America is beyond me). Their Custard Slices are huge! Again, I had half and saved the rest for another day. The custard was a lovely consistency, however, it didn't have much flavor, although the frosting on top added a sweetness that was missing from the custard. Typically I probably would have peeled the frosting off, but in this instance I think it actually added something. The ladies in the store are helpful and it always seems to be busy. I don't know if they actually accept credit cards as everything is fairly inexpensive and I would imagine that the fees wouldn't be worth accepting credit cards. Besides there is an ATM right across the street as well as two behind next to the ASDA. There is very limited parking between the entrance to ASDA and the charity shop a few doors up from the bakery, but it usually looks full. There is no parking on the street, however, there is free parking at the ASDA behind, so if you are in pinch for parking, it is possible. The store isn't very big, so you can't really have a quick lunch inside, it is really for takeaway only.

Used to be the favourite haunt for me and my siblings when we lived closer however unfortunately now I can't make it as often, only once a week.. I always get Meat & Potato Pasties, occasionally one as a Pasty Barm and they normally don't last the drive home. They girls behind the counter are a good laugh as well and always lively and full of beans! If you have room they have a great selection of bakery treats and cakes. I shouldn't have to make an excuse to go here - It's excellent. The ground floor is their outstanding chocolate and cake shop - definitely worth spending some time here tasting and choosing what they have on offer. Their selection of over 40 celebration cakes on display are stunning - you'll find yourself staring at them like some sort of art. A few of the wedding cakes are pushing £1,000.. asking if it would be worth it? For me, yes! Their cakes are amazing - no wonder Wayne Rooney bought his wedding cake from here and had it shipped to Italy. You'll find me with my face pressed up against the viewing window where you can watch the cake decorators working hard to perfect these masterpieces *drool* I'm certainly not planning my wedding or anything but I already know that there's a massive possibility that my cake will be from here. On the first floor is an elegant restaurant serving breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea, and of course CAKE. The menu is fab and I haven't heard anybody mention a bad word about it. I have yet to visit the restaurant and I hear that unless you book weeks in advance you've no chance of getting in, but this only makes me want to try it even more and it is certainly on my list. In the past I have bought baskets from here and made my own hampers, mainly for family or friends at Christmas time - consisting of chocolates, hand make cakes, biscuits, marmalades, wines etc (all locally sourced). Safe to say these always go down well. If you have a sweet tooth, this is somewhere you should definitely visit.
