Here I was, minding my own business-walking down the street of Old Town San Diego when I smelled the most Heavenly of scents. Boom! I was hit with the fragrances from Ye Olde Soap Shoppe-and I immediately switched direction and walked toward the store-like a zombie in a trance. This place has the yummiest of all yummy things-soap, lotion, candles, you name it. Many of the soaps are made semi-locally, just up the coast. The price point is high but it's a very convenient one stop shop for yours or someone you want to gift bath and body products because there is a large variety to choose from that would suit everyone's needs. I didn't think I was actually going to get anything but the berry cutest strawberry soap caught my eye. A small cut is $5.95 which seemed worth it to support a soap store and the art of soap making. I would have bought more than one lotion probably but it is a small shop and the owner has a lg table in the center that is not mobility device friendly. AND... the product at the store was EXPIRED!!! I brought it to the attention of the shop attendant. So, if you're going to spend tourist money here, make sure you check the expiration dates!!! They also have an area in the back corner of the store carved out for men's supplies (including soaps) that cater a little more towards what men typically like for soap smells. In addition to the soaps they had a nice selection of lotions, my wife actually really liked one for her mom, so we grabbed one for her to take back to her. Prices were a little on the high side, in my opinion, but when you go to a specialty shop like this it's not the same thing as buying a brick of Ivory Soap bars for $3.95 at Walmart. These are very nicely packaged, with a huge variety of scents to choose from. Staff were friendly and helpful to all of the customers that were in the shop ... and there was a steady flow of people coming in and out. We'd check them out again if we were in the area. read more

They have so many wonderful middle and high end soaps. I purchased bar soap that smells like heaven, well, it smells like flowers - which is what I imagine heaven to smell like, and I purchased some honey hand lotion. They have a wide assortment of soaps, lotions, sanitizers, and gifts arranged by scent. Thyme fir is a personal favorite but each scent is rich in profile. Their are no cheap smelling scents here. I would give this place 0 stars if possible. Went here over the weekend because of the farmers markets outside of this shop. The inside is nicely decorated and merchandised perfectly but the owner should highly consider firing the weekend staff. We were not greeted or asked once if we needed help. The 3 employees just sat on the counter tops with their phones, giggling. As a business owner myself, I would be furious at my employees who clearly lack respect & customer service. It's really hard to go wrong with an upscale soap and beauty products store and this place definitely didn't do any wrong, although their high prices came pretty close =/ at 8 dollars for a 1" slice (give or take a buck). They had a large selection of soaps that was home-made but they also had a wide variety of other beauty products that were from other companies. From a brief look at their website, it doesn't look like it's related to the same place I saw in SD but I suppose it could be the same. I went there today and saw some absolutely gorgeous soaps and tons of other products. I was a little worried about the prices when I first walked in, but the saleswoman there helped me find something right in my budget and she was incredibly sweet and very helpful. The biggest problem is the parking. It's in Old Town, which is a gorgeous area with tons of great little shops, but the parking situation isn't the best. There are some paid parking lots, but a lot of them, even on a Wednesday morning, were full! I had my husband drop me off in front of the store. I will be shopping there again! read more
