I've been eating cakes at Yeh's Bakery for years and their prices have steadily increased. Their cream pie is currently $15, but I think it is still completely worth it! I continued for a 4-star review because I am still a fan of their Boston Cream Pie (cake). I tried their Napoleon cake and Sponge cake (paper wrap cake - not Boston Cream pie). I can't say I was a fan of either. I would probably not get either again. The Napoleon is different - instead of all flakes, there is a bit of cake that replaced the flaky part. It is a butter cream filling. I wasn't a fan of the cake part since I like a flaky Napoleon cake (e.g. Martha's Bakery). The Sponge Cake is a denser cake which is inline with their Boston Cream pie (since it is a denser cake). If you like a dense sponge cake, I think it'll be something you enjoy. I prefer a lighter sponge cake. In the past, I have tried their green tea roll and it was good. I believe their specialty is the Boston Cream and Green Tea cakes. read more

My family orders from here every time there's a birthday party around and everyone agrees that their strawberry Boston cream pie is to die for. First off, it's more of a cake than a pie. Normally, I always scrape off the cream of any cake I eat but from here, it's so light and fluffy that it creates a nice balance between the cake and cream. One of my colleagues lives close to Yeh's, so whenever an occasion calls for cake (or we make up an excuse for cake), she'll periodically bring sweets from here. I'll admit that I'm a little picky when it comes to sweets. While I'll occasionally venture out explore other options, I'm a creature of habit and for the most part get my pastries and cakes from one bakery. I've been working on that though, and over the years I've been expanding my wings beyond my staple Italian bakery habits. That brings us to Yeh's - I'm a fan of their pastries because they're so light. Most recently I've had their green tea cake; the cake was fluffy and not too sweet with hints of green tea. Instead of frosting, there was whipped cream which I'm *always* a fan of. Finally, it had some sliced fruit which really complimented the cake well. The cake spoke to me: light icing (in this case whipped cream), and not too sweet. I would have liked the cake to have been a little moister, but it's cakes like these that are my favorite. Overall, Yeh's puts out good pastry - and I'm looking forward to trying more of their desserts. An excuse for cake at work is due! read more

In a sea of Asian bakeries Yeh's bakery stands out since they specialize and is known locally for creating fluffy and airy cakes. The cakes are literally "weightless" not overly dense and sweet and covered in powdered sugar and filled with a light and delicious whipped cream. The other pastries are pretty good as well but the review will concentrate on the cakes since this is what they are famous for. The Boston cream pie or cake as some call it is one of the signature cakes here. At first glance the cake looks pretty unimpressive sitting in a 9 inch aluminum pan void of any decorations. It literally resembles a super oversized muffin and visually unappealing, but as they say "The proof is in the pudding" The cake is filled with a light and delicious whip cream. If only they can package that whip cream in a "reddi wip" type of can. I would be doing double shots of this stuff all day! The cakes are really good and simple in design. No fancy or bold accents on the cakes or decorative fondant, just a tasty cake. Even the boxes they place the cakes in are plain white with the Yeh bakery logo stamped in red ink. No fancy ribbons or bows will adorn your cake box as you leave this bakery. The bakery is small with no seating and the fridge and layout is dated, but the cakes are AWESOME! You can place an order for a birthday or anniversary cake and the flavors range from vanilla, strawberry, green tea, taro, chocolate and chestnut. Fruit toppings are an extra charge. I have had all the flavors of cakes in the past and they are all delicious! The cakes are not cheap or extremely expensive, but you do get the feeling you are paying a little too much since the cakes are so light when you pick them up. Parking is difficult since the hospital is nearby and the meter spaces are limited on Main street but you may find parking spaces around the side streets. So if anyone ever asks you if you want cake just shout out "YEH!!" Hopefully they'll get the idea on where to go. read more

Yeh's does nice and fluffy cakes that are extremely light, making them one of our preferred bakeries to get cakes for various occasions. We usually opt for the Boston Cream Pie, which isn't really a pie, other than the pie shell it sits in. It's 2 airy sponge cakes that sandwich a smooth and supple whipped cream filling, infinitely light as Asians do best. Meaning you'll not be scared of it, even if you were to eat the whole cake. It sounds like overkill, but probably not a hard task to pull off with this cake. The Green Tea Cake is another popular choice. Also light and fluffy, but the taste not wowing for me. I may be one of the few Asians who's not big on every green tea flavored dessert in the world. Personally, the Boston Cream Pie is so much better. They also do different cookies, with a buttery almond aftertaste, sold by the pound like an Italian pastry shoppe. I have past this block for years when I take Main St. and never imagine a great bakery on the fringes of Flushing Chinatown so I never looked. This bakery has been a staple in my childhood and always has such good memories. I love their buns, Scallion bun, Egg pork floss bun, Peanut bun, and etc, those buns are my favorites. Yeh's bakery has been around for as long as I can remember. It is a hole in the wall, but they make the lightest, fluffiest Asian cakes! Unlike other Asian bakery cakes that usually have a fruit filling, these cakes are very light (almost like sponge cake) with a very light whipped cream layer. The decorations on top are just fruit and very unassuming, but the cake is so delicious! They come in a variety of sizes and flavors - always call a day or two ahead to place orders. My favorite is the greentea and the chestnut, but I definitely want to try taro and strawberry. It can be quite pricey, but worth it for a special occasion. I've also had their various puffs (curry, beef, etc.) and they are also a great snack. If there isn't a special occasion, I would typically get the Boston Creme pie, which is essentially plain cake with a layer of their whipped cream in between the two layers. read more

I know that the regular cakes with fruits and cream outside have increased as well over the years, but that made more sense I guess.
