    Coconut mousse
    Natalie T.

The egg custard tart had mochi in it which added a nice bounce to the bite. Flavor was quite good as well and paired nicely with the crust. The coconut mousse was very nice, super creamy and flavorful. Nice treats.

Since I've discovered Shakalaka, it has been my go to when I'm out of ideas of what cake to get. They have so many unique cake flavors and very nice looking cakes. I love how they so many options for their 4" cakes. Shakalaka is always on my mind. I never really had a bad experience with the flavors. The cakes are premade fresh so it's been a great last minute resource for me.

    Pork floss taro cake

A Chinese bakery serving a variety of pastries and cakes! We got the pork floss taro cake. The cake was a sponge like cake - super soft and springy. Inside were layers of taro cream that were not too sweet. The entire cake was covered in a generous portion of pork floss. A delicious unique offering and the flavors melded together perfectly. The line moves quick and be sure to know what you want before you get to the front of the line. Have not tried their other bakery items but would get the cake again!

    Mango Fruit

I've been watching so many TikTok's of people in LA eating the fruit pastries and I've vern craving one so bad. I really did not want to go all the way to salswee in the city to get one, so I was so excited that shakalaka carried their mango fruit! It was definitely worth the hype. Such a pretty dessert, amazing crunch factor, and my favorite part was the mango coulis on the inside. It was $12 for a small pastry, but definitely worth the try. I would get it again as a treat!

Amazing cakes with unique flavors. Love that it's not too sweet. The price is great too!

I do not have a sweet tooth and usually dislike cakes, especially really creamy ones. With that said, this bakery had perhaps simultaneously the most delicious and most beautiful cake all at once. It looked like something out of the world of Totoro and all his animal buddies. The texture was a perfect balance of soft sweet + crunchy chocolate bits. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It was so good that we went to check out the physical store and service / ambiance matched the beauty of the cake.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

The banana, just okay with chocolate filling, but the details are beautiful

The desserts here look beautiful! [[HIGHLIGHT]]They have a nice little dining area in the back and a clean bathroom.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The staff is very friendly Their milk tea is not bad, but I tried to ask for less sugar and they said they couldn't adjust it. The mango pastry is my favorite and it is worth the high price point. I tried the banana chocolate and although it looked gorgeous, it was just okay. We also tried the coconut one and a pineapple bun. I will be back to try more!

Despite the influx of newcomers, this is still one of my fav bakeries in Flushing. I love the fact creative cake flavor options, not your usual fresh fruit with cream cake that you get in other Chinese bakeries here. There are so many different options. I also love the size, perfect for 2-4 people without worrying about leftovers. The breads here are pretty great, some fun and unique flavors.

    Mango pomelo 4inch cake $17
    Shelley L.

This review is solely for their cakes. I first encountered these cakes during my birthday party and I immediately laughed when I saw the name of the birthday. I love catchy names like this. There were two 8 inch taro cake and oreo strawberry cake. Both had great presentation and were beautiful. To top it off, all I kept hearing was "good, not too sweet," which as we know is complete approval for Asian families. I love the abundance of toppings for each cake. They did not skimp on taro filling or oreo and strawberry. We liked it enough that we went back to try a few more of their cakes. One tip is if there is a cake you really want, place the order online. They only have a select number of cakes in store on display and in the fridges behind the counter. I ordered the 4 inch mango pomelo sago cake. It's a very delicate cake. As soon as you rip the plastic off, it starts to sag. This wasn't bad as a cake but it's probably the one cake I wouldn't get again from this bakery. It was $17 for a 4 inch and about $38 for select 8 inch cakes. Prices are good as your typical Paris Baguette and chain bakeries prices are climbing.

    Pistachio Christmas tree Cake

Pistachio Christmas tree cake was delicious. Not too sweet, not too big, and everyone dug into it. It's sooo pretty too. Definitely am interested in trying other bakery items of theirs

    Matcha pistachio strawberry cake
    Jenng C.

My friend got me the matcha pistachio strawberry cake for my birthday and it was really soft and not too sweet. The owner also opened SALSWEE, located in midtown Manhattan, which is surprising to me given how much the rent is in Manhattan. They must be doing well for themselves. I thought it was also funny that the box says SHAKALAKA but the cake is on a plate that says SALSWEE.

    Egg tarts
    Sean H.

Stopped by here for dessert and had a pleasant experience. There's a lot of selections to choose from but we ended up getting the egg tarts. It was flavorful, flaky, not dry, delicious. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Overall ambiance is alright.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]It's pretty cramped inside and the tables were very close together so it was difficult to maneuver around.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Bathroom was clean.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I'd come back again if I'm in the area and craving something sweet.

One of the best cakes I've had! I got to try the 3 layer matcha chiffon cake that had layers of whipped cream filling as well as strawberry and raspberry Jelly. Not only does the cake look so cute but the flavoring is also very good! Not too sweet and honestly so tasty. Their bakery also had a variety of other cool flavors that I want to try next time.

I am a fan of the pandan flavor desserts and bought two that I wanted to try. One being a roll cake and the other layer cake. The pandan roll cake with taro I was told is a specialty that they only have on weekends. It was really flavorful, moist and spongy, just perfectly touched with a dash of sweetness in both the cake and the cream - I personally don't like overly sweet foods, and this is just perfect for me and my mom. I'm equally pleased with the layer cake as well it was very fresh and have that "QQ" texture - deliciously chewy and bouncy. This too, just hit right for me on the gentle sweetness, the pandan flavor keeping the spotlight in this dessert. My mom and I are big fans of these desserts. We just came back trying out others pandan layer cakes in Downtown Flushing and this shop beats them by a large margin. I hope to come back more when we could even though this shop is quite a distance for us.

The pastries and breads had a perfect texture, and you can tell a lot of care goes into every item. The staff was friendly and helpful, explaining the different options and making recommendations without being pushy. The bakery itself is clean and welcoming, making it a pleasant place to browse and enjoy treats. Overall, Shinpuru Baking delivers top-quality baked goods and excellent service. I'll definitely be returning and would highly recommend it to anyone who loves fresh, tasty pastries.

The lady who I assume is the boss said she had held a pop-up shop about two years prior which blew up, hence what we see here. The selection here was deceptively small compared to chain bakeries, but it didn't take us long recognise how much power the smaller selection packs and, actually, how the selection really is not small at all. The matcha red bean loaf grabbed my attention straight away and didn't disappoint, but their red bean bun was just as impressive, as it's a more bread-y counterpart to the fluffy versions other bakeries typically have. The onioissant is definitely experimental and worked better on the chive bacon cream cheese one than on the pollack roe, which was a bit too much on the salty and fishy side for my liking. Their chocolate horn is at least twice as big as a typical one you'll find at other bakeries and has a rich dark chocolate filling which was a pleasant surprise. Their coffee brioche pastry was another hit, thanks to the strong coffee filling and delicate layers of pastry. There's ample tables and chairs, beverage menu, and I'm sure we'd come hang if we lived closer. I can't wait to go back.

It was pretty full but we got a seat pretty quickly.

The inside is absolutely beautiful and while they have tables, they also have more traditional floor seating. We got a couple bites of food to eat, some of their tea, and some cocktails. Their food was very mediocre, at best. While the persimmon cake SEEMED to be made in house, it was very clear that everything off their food menu required minimal preparation (ie. for the dumplings, it was just har cow). I also thought their cocktails were okay, and out of the three we got, none stood out to me. I did enjoy their tea, however. But, it was also fairly expensive for what it was (~$50). Overall, I thought this spot was okay for the price and I'm not sure I would return.

We came with a fairly large group and ordered several teas and snacks to share amongst us. There were several options for the flavors of tea and each one had different benefits as well. I loved all of them, particularly the fruitier ones. As for snacks, we had this fried taro snack that had a crispy biscuit outer layer that was delicious. It was a bit of a sweet & savory mix, but not strong in either sweet or salty flavors. There was also this persimmon snack that was filled with nuts and other things. It was slightly sweet, very unique, and both paired well as a tea time snack. They're also open until 11:30pm!
