    Hot Lemon Yuzu Tea
    Lily L.

Wow this cafe was so cute! The interior was nice and clean with a cute pink couch area. The owner was super nice as well and helped direct us to the food and drink menus when we were a little confused (they're located in different areas). Now the food and drinks, everything we had was delicious! Starting off with the Iced Coconut Americano. You get a choice whether to add milk or have the coffee without milk, we ordered it without and we loved it. It was nicely sweet with a coconuty flavor but no milkiness at all (I think they use coconut water). It also had a nice balance of bitter directly after the sweetness which made the coffee so addicting. The Hot Lemon Yuzu Tea was also exactly what I needed. It was nice and tart but just be mindful that it is a little more sour than usual Honey Yuzu Teas so if you do not like sour, which was what I was craving, it is best to stay away. Moving on to the desserts. The Yuzu Basque Cheesecake was okay, I always prefer baque cheesecakes because the denseness allows more the cake to be more creamy than cheesy. That was delivered along with a slight tang from the yuzu. We also tried the Pandan Roll Cake which I was pleasantly surprised by. I love Pandan flavored desserts but I feel like sometimes I am searching for the flavor. This was not the case at all, I was able to taste the Pandan as soon as I bit into the nicely fluffy cake and light cream! Moving on to the star of the show, the Kaya Pandan Butter Toast! This was the first to be devoured and hopefully they still continue to carry it (but I think it might be a new/limited items because it wasn't on the main menu). The Pandan flavor is the first thing you taste as you bite into the crispy toast and even though it is already not too sweet, the salted butter adds an even greater depth. This toast was so perfect I wanted to grab another but we already had too much food. Lastly, they have a whole wall of cakes that can be pre-ordered. When speaking with the owner, the cakes have a slight range depending on which cake you would like. It is also best to pre-order at least 3 days before the intended date. Due to the fluffiness of the Pandan cake roll, I for one can't wait to place a pre-order for my next event! Overall, I can't stress how cute and delicate the interior / desserts were and I would definitely recommend to stop by if it makes sense. I think the reason why the foot traffic seemed a little light the day I went by was because it is kind of hidden in an area where not a lot of people seem to walk by.

Cute bakery that just opened 3 months ago. I stopped by after lunch for a matcha latte. Very cute clean pink aesthetic with a sofa and stools to chill Service was very friendly! They specialize in Swiss Rolls and custom cakes (order 2-3 days before). The Matcha Latte with Strawberry (Large) the strawberries are delicious and adds a sweetness to balance the bitterness of the matcha without being overpowering. I also like that they don't put too much ice in, and they use big cylindrical blocks of ice, so it doesn't melt quickly and water down the drink. The Chocolate with Raspberry Swiss Roll was very airy. Light in flavor and not too sweet, which I liked. I saw they had Kaya Toast, but they sold out. Seems like they sell out of those in the morning. I will have to come back for that! Overall, a cute bakery you can grab a drink and some cake at! Will definitely be back for more cake.

Stopped by this cute dessert shop on Father's Day. Unfortunately, the store was sold out of many items due to the holiday. From what they did have, the lime chiffon cake and mango sago were both delicious. The Basque cheesecake was more like a regular cheesecake than the real thing we had in San Sebastián. Both coffee drinks we had were delightful though. They use Lavazzo. What originally brought me to this shop was the pandan items they make in house. Sadly, those were unavailable, so I'll be back. I spoke to the friendly owner, who is from Malaysia, and learned that she made everything fresh daily from the best ingredients she can source. Also, the name is Shinpuru, which means "simple" in Japanese. She believes in keeping things simple to allow good ingredients to shine on their own.

Tried the green tea yuzu roll cake and strawberry matcha on two separate days. Although both were not too sweet the flavor power was lacking. Would probably order again for the other unique flavors like durian or black sesame next time.

New cafe on 162nd. They opened up 5 months ago. The interior is so cute and it's right across my yoga studio. I ordered the strawberry macha and the price was so good. It's decently priced compared to Irene strawberry macha lattes. I definitely want to come back to try their cake. They look good!

Cute new cafe in the neighborhood!! Lots of Asian styled desserts and love the flavors they offer. We got the pandan cake. Will have to come back for the black sesame! The coconut coffee was also so good!

Vanessa is the sweetest! I came across her shop when searching for a birthday cake for my baby. I couldn't decide on a cake and was running out of time but then after finding her page, I knew I was going to get something from bakery. Everything looked so elegant and she incorporates unique Asian flavors into her desserts. I ended up getting the 6 inch pandan coconut cake and it was such a big hit with the family ! It's so hard to find pandan desserts in NYC and she did it so well! Will definitely be back to try her other cakes

Panda Layer Kuih and Earl Grey Tea With Orange

A small shop, with only 2-4 tables, but cute and cozy sofa. The Panda Layer Kuih is light yet almost buttery. It actually went very well with my Orange Earl Grey tea.

Bought a variety of their baked goods to share at family gathering. Everyone loved how delicious, fragrant and fresh they are. Love how it's not overly sweet like many other bakeries. You can tell they use fresh ingredients. I couldn't decide between the pistachio or cranberry cookies and owner gave me one box on the house! We loved both, they tasted freshly baked and were all gone in few minutes!

I stopped by Shinpuru Bakery recently and I'm already planning my next visit. If you are looking for authentic Malaysian baked goods that hit the perfect balance of flavor without being overwhelming, this is the spot. Here is what I ordered: * Pandan Kaya with Butter Toast: This was the highlight for me. The toast was perfectly crisp, and the combination of the cold slab of butter with the aromatic Pandan Kaya jam is unmatched. * Matcha Mochi Bun (Red Bean Filling): You can taste the freshness immediately. The bun was soft and pillowy, the mochi added a great chew, and the red bean filling was earthy and rich. * Drinks: I grabbed an Americano and a Matcha Latte. Both were well-made and paired perfectly with the pastries. What I loved most was that everything was not too sweet. It allows the actual flavors of the pandan and matcha to shine through rather than just tasting like sugar. The service was also incredibly fast, and the owner seems like a genuinely nice person who cares about the quality of what they are serving. Highly recommend giving this place a try!

Curry pottato bun, caramel salted swiss roll and latte
    潔昀

Try the curry potato bun and caramel salted swiss roll, it's delicious. The latte is good too, like it so much It's a new cake shop located at Flushing area, I love the environment and the decoration of the store, is so comfortable, cute and lovely. The serivice is good, and the worker is very friendly. There are a lot flavor of swiss roll, and they accept pre-order. I might give a try on the durian swiss roll, it's a special item.

My friend recommended this place, so I gave it a try -- OMG!! I have to say, I loved everything they had! From the first bite to the last, everything was on point. One thing that really stood out to me: their desserts! Not too sweet, just the right balance of flavors. You can tell they really care about every ingredient. Highly recommend! The pandan roll is really delicious!

(The first reviews of this place on Yelp are dated 2008). Although the prices aren't as inexpensive as they used to be (Cheap eats in NYC are going the way of the Dodo - might as well get used to it!) I still find they remained consistently delicious. Arguably, the chicken buns are the draw here - with a nice sized slab of juicy dark meat chicken tucked in a crispy outside, soft inside pineapple bun dressed with lettuce, tomato and cucumber it is winning combo. These days you will be hard pressed to find a cheaper and better chicken sandwich at $3.75 in NYC. Better to get here early to make sure they have them, also fresher! I asked for a Iced coffee and the default is light and sweet, which is a style I haven't had in while. It hit the spot. I tried the pork floss bun - it was large and tasty. The sponge cake was nice and soft, but friend remarked perhaps not the very best she's had, but good. They have don tat which will do the job, but not a stand out version. This is old school spot that after I walk out with my purchase I feel grateful it is still sticking around serving up goodness!

I walked into a clean, well lit space designed for quick selection rather than lingering, and the display cases were filled with brightly decorated cakes and pastries that looked consistently fresh. The mango based cakes are the most consistent thing here. I tried one and found it light, creamy, and built around fresh fruit rather than overly heavy frosting, which made it easy to finish even after a full meal. The matcha cake also worked well, leaning more milky than bitter, with a soft sponge that held its structure without feeling dry. The pork floss cakes are one of the more interesting savory sweet options, and they came out better than I expected since they did not go overboard on sweetness. The croissants and egg tarts are solid supporting items rather than the main reason to come. The croissant I had was flaky with a noticeable butter layer, and the egg tart was best eaten warm as the custard tightens up when cold. The purple rice desserts are heavier but work if I want something more filling and texturally different from the fruit cakes. Service was generally efficient even when the bakery was busy, and the staff moved through orders quickly. Prices sit a bit higher than older style Flushing bakeries, but the tradeoff is cleaner presentation, more modern flavor combinations, and consistently fresh looking cakes. For a modern bakery stop in Flushing, Shakalaka delivers on quality and visual appeal.

I really appreciated how she made me and my friend feel comfortable and welcome at the shop. The food: Meltaway Babka- it's a chocolate babka on steroids! Omg this was so damn good but it was very intense and on the sweet side but man this was so good. Eat this with some tea or coffee to tone it down. This is a must get. https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=Y_iTTjKvV5hLy-880SZzlA&select=hYxUn_61aZq8ZQqzDIuMSQ Chocolate Babka- Turns out there are a few different types of chocolate babka here, there was the classic that comes in half a loaf, there is one that comes in a half loaf with some powdered sugar on top, and there was another one that was like a chocolate chocolate babka that came in a circular loaf that looked like cinnamon buns and had more of an intense chocolate flavor. I went with the classic and I was very happy with with the version here. I would easily come back just for this. I thought it was great, not too rich or oily and not too sweet. I thought this was an easy eating babka. https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=Y_iTTjKvV5hLy-880SZzlA&select=-IrBczFaxKcUckdikQ-KfA Raspberry Hamantaschen- Turns out previously I only had subpar ones because the one I had here were amazing. The cookie dough part was made so well, it had such a nice texture. It wasn't too dry, not too crumbly, it was made just right. The raspberry part was ok, it tasted like raspberries but the flavor was a but light. Carrot Cake- This was good but kinda plain. The cake part was nice and moist but I felt it needed more flavor. Like it needed more of a carrot flavor or something. I was thinking if they made like a banana walnut bread with the same texture of the cake, it would have been amazing. Mini Black and White Cookies- Thought these were OK. To preface, I don't normally love black and white cookies because they don't even feel like they are cookies but the taste and texture was ok.

When the food arrived it was piping hot we had to wait a bit before eating the fried foods. The salad was a good portion very satisfying, the cod, shrimp fish & chips was kind of disappointing there was only 3 shrimps and 1 piece of cod with fries buried under them. The fried squid was okay, kind of dry, and a takoyaki was pretty good. We got the English breakfast tea which was pretty standard, we also got the fruit tea which was kind of overwhelming I think the mix of fruits was a bit too much so avoid the Prince Passion Fruit Tea. For dessert we got the matcha ice cream, tiramisu, and the trio combo with the red bean ice cream pate de choux, the green tea financier, and the fruit tart. The fruit tart was very tiny and had a unriped mango on it, the green tea financier was pretty good, and the red bean ice cream pate de choux was okay, I think next time we'll just get 3 of the ice cream pate de choux because it's more worth the value. The tiramisu was kind of bland there was no espresso flavor in it. Overall the staff were very friendly and paid close attention to our table to make sure plates were cleared and took attention to when we wanted anything else. The ambiance is pretty nice, and the decor is cute. But next time we will probably avoid the fish & chips, fruit tart, fruit tea and tiramisu. Our bill came up to $100 for 3 people we probably would have spent about the same amount of money at a restaurant with real food, but it was nice how we were able to get small appetizers.
