The pastries here are super affordable, and what you get is pretty decent. I think they pair really well with tea -- if you can grab yourself a piping hot one, they're very complementary. I only tried the Chinese pastries. They're on the flaky side, so I recommend eating them on an actual tray, a bowl, or with some paper underneath because they're pretty delicate and crumbly. Heard a lot about this bakery and decided to order a Father's Day cake online for pickup. Apparently you have to wait on the register line to retrieve your cake and not the pick up area. The layout of the shop is a little tight with little movement on each side. When there's a line, it blocks the shopping experience. While I was on the line, I picked up a boroh danish to try. It was a resemblance to the Chinese pineapple bun, except it's flaky and buttery. It reminds me of a croissant with a slight sweet crunch for the crisscross topping. Decent bun, but I would to go back to try their other buns. As for the cake, it was a tiramisu cheesecake-- but it tasted 95% cheesecake rather than tiramisu. Okay. Came back here again because I cannot get enough of their sea salt coffee with boba. It's so addictive and seriously they have the best tasting boba and texture is on point. I do like this Taiwanese bakery. The drinks and cakes are reasonably priced. The cake slices are light and yummy and the best price in down town flushing. I ordered a few slice cakes and Mother's Day cakes and they were all nice. Only issue I had is when they first opened, I found a metal wired inside my mango slice cake so I deducted a star. I have returned a few more times since then and I luckily never find anything else weird in the cakes. The staffs are all very nice and friendly. The ambiance here is nice a chill. We've been going to 85c for a while now, back when we were based in Socal. Theres a huge variety, and the prices are much more reasonable than the competing places like Paris. There was a long line when I visited on Sunday afternoon. I've waited around 20 minutes in line from choosing bread to payment. I could smell the freshly baked bread from a distance as they kept rolling out fresh bread from the kitchen. I was a little sad that the mochi egg tarts were sold out and I was told they were all gone early in the morning. They still had regular egg tarts pre-packed in half dozen though. I was lucky enough to secure the marble taro bun ($3.40) when it was fresh out of oven. It was still warm when I got it. It felt dense and the center was generously loaded with sweet taro paste. Yet the calorie count was 640 with 33g sugar which made it an indulgence for once in a while. I was extremely full after having one. I also got their pineapple cake ($2.50) as I remember it was great when I tried it in Taiwan. My bf got their strawberry white choco bun ($2.25) and sugar brioche bun ($2.30) which also looked appealing. Overall, I'd love to come back for their mochi egg tarts that I missed, and probably get some drinks as I was too full to try any yesterday. Note: Service dogs are allowed, emotional pets aren't allowed entry otherwise the bakery will be shutdown by the Health Department. Why do I write this you ask, a customer tried to walk their dog into the bakery and couldn't produce a document stating it's a service dog. Came here for the grand opening weekend (Sunday). The bakery is part of the Tangram Mall on the 39th Avenue between College Point and Prince Street. The Mall doesn't open until 10:00AM. The Mall employee was nice to let us wait inside at 7:55AM before the 8:00AM opening. However, the bakery didn't open at 8:00AM, we waited until 9AM, which explains why there isn't a long line when I went. The bakery is a Taiwanese chain and known for constantly putting out fresh items while calling out "Fresh Bread". There were 2 asides of items and enough room for 2 people if you turn sideways otherwise it's really 1 person walkway. With the grand opening, there is a lot of people so there was a limit of how many people can be in the store at a time. Aisle 1: Baked items on the left side, rolls and tarts on the right side. Aisle 2: Baked items on the left side, refrigerator for cheesecake, sweets and cake. If you missed grabbing some items in the first aisle, some of the items repeat in the 2nd aisle. After a mad dash of picking items, I decided to pick up a Deluxe Strawberry Cream too. Scanned my app which has a promotion item, I got a free salted cream Jasmine tea. Since I was one of the first 85 customers, I received a coupon to come back for another free drink (which I will give it to someone else to use). During the grand opening, a free reusable bag is given with purchase and if it's over $20, you receive a free mug. Foodwise - the red bean bun has a decent amount of filing in it. Today's soft opening looked to be a success with a steady steam of customers. 85C Bakery is located inside busy Tangram mall on the first floor near the 39th Avenue entrance doors. With a small seating space on the second story, the inside is pleasantly larger than I had anticipated. You can place your order at the kiosk closest to the baked goods section in the back, or you can pay at the counter. We got a variety of baked items (taro bread, Choco bun, milk pudding, etc) along with a cold Vietnamese coffee ($4.80) and a Mango Slush ($5.80). Prices were surprisingly reasonable- baked goods where $2-3 each. We really liked their strawberry bread which had an almost cheesecake like filling. The Vietnamese coffee was also a stand out. Very strong and sweet. Loved the teeny tiny ice cubes used with this drink which didn't water down the flavor but kept the drink icy. The mango slush was okay. It more sweet than I usually like but refreshing none the less. Another nice thing they have going for them is their hours of operation. They are open at 8-9am making them one of the few businesses and food vendor open so early inside this mall. Most of the businesses in Tangram opens at 10-10:30 am but the mall itself is open much earlier and you will often see visitors hanging out inside. I've heard about this bakery for a while, and I finally went to try it out after the hype died down on social media. They still receive plenty of foot traffic, so it must still be good, right? There is a wide selection of Asian bakery pastries, ranging from their pork floss bun to the custard buns and even their own version of egg tarts. They also have cakes that seem to be made fresh daily, but those are to be tried another time. I tried their pork floss bun because that's my all-time favorite bread from Chinese bakeries. 85 bakery version, it was spectacular. The bread itself was fluffy, soft, & airy, not dry or thick. There was a good amount of pork floss on top, and the mayo condiment was not too heavy, either. I also tried their egg tarts, which were pretty good, too. There was a good ratio of crust to filling. The crust wasn't too thin, and the filling wasn't too sweet. They tasted really good when they came out fresh and warm. Think of this brand as the Taiwanese Paris Baguette or better than average Chinese bakery. The filled items are always loaded with filling. I love most of the items I have gotten so far: 1. Bolo Bun: Closer to the Japanese melon pan. Not like the Hong Kong bo lo bao. No filling but still tasty. 2. Marble Taro Bun: Biggg and loaded with real taro inside. Love the slight crunch on the outside. Really great bun. 3. Jalapeño Cheese Bun: So much cream cheese filling with lots of jalapeño slices. Spicy lovers would love this. 4. Sun Dried Tomato Ravioli: More western bun but they did a good job with flavors! So much filling as well. 5. Cinnamon Twist: Not too sweet, lightly flakey. Growing up, my parents would take me to Fay Da bakery all the time. After a while, not that I didn't enjoy it, I craved something new. The pastries here are different. On a cold Sunday afternoon the mall was popping, and lots of folks were feeling some bakery and teas, but never fear, the line moved quickly and the service was super friendly. We got a chocolate chip "bowl" which was more like a giant chocolate chip bread dusted with powdered sugar, and a Royal chocolate cup, which was actually a cup of rich dairy desert with crunchy chocolate balls on top. I make sure I stop by this store in LA whenever I visit so it is super exciting for me that they opened a branch in Flushing. They're a popular chain and have good selection of baked goods. They're constantly baking and brining out "fresh bread". I also enjoy their Jasmin green tea with sea salt foam but the foam is definitely an acquired taste. Heard great things about this bakery that originated in Taiwan and happy to have one the first east coast location in the US! My family friends on the west Coast always talk about this place so I'm excited to finally try! Came at 8:20 AM for their grand opening at 9:00 AM and made it as one of the first 85 customers on line to get a free T-shirt. The Tangram mall was not completely opened yet, but the security guards were accommodating and allowed us to wait inside along the walls until 9 AM so we weren't outside in the cold. Once I reached the opening of the bakery, I got a tray to pick up some baked goods! The line was moving at a good pace, enough time for me to analyze the shelf I was at and grab what I like and then move on to the next. The first shelf on the left had all their most popular options including marble Taro, milk pudding, and garlic cheese which I got. As I was moving along the line, employees were constantly bringing out fresh bread while announcing "FRESH BREAD" out loud. Very enthusiastic and the bread were all indeed toasty. In the middle shelf, acting as a line separator, were egg tarts, berry tarts, mochi tarts, Hokkaido cheese tarts, and cake rolls. I got a set of egg tarts (they come in 2!) and they were very fresh and delicious. They also sell pineapple cakes and nougats which I'm excited to try. Before the cash register is a fridge full of sandwiches and drinks in bottles. I would like to try the pesto chicken sandwich hot and the Thai iced tea bottles one day. Then after the fridge with cold cuts and drinks, is a fridge full of cakes. I got the mango creme brulee and strawberry deluxe. Both are very light and not that sweet, with an interesting layer of pudding in between. There were 3 cash registers open with assistants in the back helping with packing so the lines moved quick! Got the popular Taro Bun (it is heavy in weight), which was stuffed with Taro filling; though I enjoyed the cheese twist a bit more than the taro bun this time; The white chocolate cookie was really good too.
