Normally, I wouldn't choose a restaurant with an English name while in Italy, but my friend and I both agree that this was our best meal in Florence! When we walked in, we were craving pizza, but the hostess showed us the fresh pasta kitchen and we knew we had to try it out. We had Gnocchi Rosé (with tomato cream sauce) and pizza with mozzarella, zucchini, & eggplant. The pizza was perfect - best in my life, no exaggeration. For dessert we shared an affogato - chocolate gelato doused in an espresso shot. My pastas were full of vegetables: good, good, good. As appetizers, we had Tuscan liver pate which was delicious (but greasy). A local Florentine recommended this Yellow Bar as one of his favorite restaurants and said don't let the name fool you It's as authentic as it gets. He was right, the food was fantastic! We weren't even that hungry but ended up having 3 pasta dishes between the 2 of us. The pasta is made in house and you can go take a look at it being made if interested. We had the paglia fieno because the next table ordered it and we had food envy. It was noodly pasta with ham and peas and so delicious it makes me want to cry just thinking about it. Trust me, you must get this dish. Also, I had the spicy spaghetti. The sauce was barely spicy but it was fresh and also a bit sweet & tangy from the freshness of the marinara base. Loved it. Sadly we discovered Yellow Bar on our last night in Florence. Had we known earlier, it would have been worth coming here a few times to try all the different dishes. Yellow Bar was an overall average experience that should've been forgettable... yet here I am, reviewing it on Yelp. The best thing about Yellow Bar is the memorable name that stands out from all the other "Ristorantes" and "Trattorias" on the streets. Since there were only two of us, we had to share an eight-person table with four Italians. The place seemed to be very crowded, and we were thankful to be seated so quickly. The service was slower than expected, and it was difficult to get the servers' attention (we were in a bit of a rush). To start us off, Yellow Bar's bread was quite tasteless and just not worth eating. We ordered a gnocchi and a funghi pizza. Unfortunately, this was one of the first pastas I got tired of before the end. The funghi pizza was average and a little on the greasy side. Bread in Florence is pretty bland since they don't salt it, but the olive oil makes everything better. DRINK House white wine (4 stars): Good for a table wine! To start with the very wealthy man that owns this was in the Reaturant today waiting tables, setting placemats and seating guest ! If for no other reason this Reaturant earns 5 starts because of great ownership Buy in fact the food was amazing. One thing I just love is they make fresh mozzarella in the house you can always tell it is fresh because when you cut into a ball of fresh mozzarella it still has a bit of water condensation from the process. The ripe tomatoes are from local produce and are a sweet delight. I've now had the seafood pasta and the carbonara.. the flat bread is made fresh to order with perfect burn marking from the open flame oven soft in the middle and crispy edges ..going to start with what I had for desert because this was the most decadent cheese cake with fresh blueberry compost I've ever eaten in my life! Hands down NY had nothing on this creamy , light cheesecake perfection with fresh crushed almonds and Just a delight ! Our friend from the states recommended this place and he ate here every night when he was in Florence. Though it was delicious, he might he been a bit obsessed...lol We came here twice. Since it was our first day in florence we had to order the florentine steak (highly recommend sharing this beast) and two pastas. We eat a lot so we manage to finished everything but it was a lot of food for two people. The pasta is definitely different then what we had in Rome. Less of a bite, hence the missing star. Their pasta is made from stone ground grains which give it a very unique flavor. All the pasta was fresh and made to order. I honesty don't know how their system works but sometimes you get your pasta plated other times you get the whole pan and you have to plate it yourself. Regardless, the flavors are delicious and it is worth a try. I would recommend it. The second time we ate here was sheerly on proximity and good food and we ordered a clam pasta and traditional tomato base spaghetti and it was delicious. Here I learn a valuable lesson. We had just go back from a wine tour and were tired and I was craving a coca cola. So I ordered it and drank it as I was waiting for my food. MISTAKES WERE MADE! DO NOT DRINK COCA COLA before eating your pasta. Drinking coca cola it the equivalent of nuking your taste buds and the pasta will not taste as good. Being that it was me and my boyfriend's first time in Florence, our Airbnb owner highly recommended Yellow Bar for the best homemade pasta, so of course this was our first restaurant here. The vibes are super casual, and you can get a liter of house wine for 12 Euros! Our host asked if this was our first time there, and that if we'd like we could walk over to the next room to see where/how they actually make the pasta by hand (we did this at the end of our meal and it was pretty cool to see it being done right in front of us). We started out with the Insulate Mediterranea, which includes tomatoes, olives, anchovies, onions and sheep cheese. I'll never forget the pieces of cheese that was in this salad. It was one of those cheeses you just can't stop eating, and had some crunchy texture to it. I had ordered the Paglio E Fieno (green + yellow noodles with ham, mushrooms, cream and tomato sauce) while my boyfriend ordered the Ravioli Burro E Salvia (ravioli with sage and butter). We both had our pastas in their Rose sauce, or what we Americans might know as Pink/Vodka sauce. The portions are HUGE (at least for the reg noodles, ravioli dishes usually come with 5-6), and we were absolutely blown away. The noodles were perfectly cooked (al dente, just the way we like it), and the sauce was a vodka sauce I still dream about to this day. Surely this restaurant was a highlight of our trip. We also got the Tiramisu (obv a must) and 2 cafe leches. Our bill came out to 50 Euros I believe, which for an unforgettable dinner, was worth it. This restaurant also seemed like it was great for big groups, and many others were ordering pizzas so I'm sure they are very good as well. The craprese was so fresh it was amazing. The scamorza di bufala was not new to me but also delicious and so fresh. I would not have normally come here because it's gaudy touristy but my Tuscan tour guide actually said it had really great food. I've been a Yelper since 2014, but rarely felt inclined to review. This spot was maybe the one during my trip to Florence that pushed me to start sharing the good news when I happen upon a gem. You could so easily miss this spot--it's hidden on a side street of El Duomo, and it isn't really visible until you near the restaurant. But I must say that they live up to their own hype: the dough they advertise as being completely organic and handcrafted in-house out of ancient wheat grain tastes SO GOOD. My favorite part of their pizza is quite honestly the dough. And the pasta -- oh, the pasta! Perfectly al dente and delicious both on its own and covered in their great tomato sauce. I also must give a huge shoutout to the restaurant's service. I've been there twice in just the past four days that I've been in town and have found that the ownership is likely the reason for this. The first time I visited was for takeout--the owner cashed me out and threw in a free liter bottle of water when I asked if I could purchase one before leaving. Then when I dined in the second time, I saw him eating with who I believe to be the restaurant's manager--they got a bottle of champagne and sent a few glasses over to the table next to them, leading to a loud hearty toast that made everyone smile. read more

The gf and I were wandering around Florence in between museum tours and realized that it was the perfect time to seek lunch. I had a Google map full of options that I had researched and listed, but it was growing harder and harder to ignore the litany of restaurants scattered all over Florence. We walked by Yellow Bar, and at a cursory glance inside, saw a chill atmosphere, and enough people inside to feel like it might actually be a decent place. Prior to getting seated, we were shown pasta makers making their own pasta, which is always a welcome sight, as opposed to anywhere that uses premade or frozen crap. Everyone we dealt with spoke perfectly good English, so it's an easy place for American tourists like ourselves. The restaurant itself is a surprisingly open and spacious establishment that is bigger than it looks like it should be from the outside. The interior is relaxed and seems like a great place for large or small parties, or just couples. This is where I want to make a remark about the service being slow, but I tend to forget that I'm sometimes reviewing European establishments and a leisurely pace is simply the way things are done in Europe, so we'll call it a pass here. Being in Italy, all I knew was that I wanted to eat pasta, and nothing but. Seeing the in-house made pasta made it an easy choice that it was going to be pasta for lunch. The noodles were soft without being sticky and rubbery in texture, and there was just a little bit of chew. Sprinkled with parmesan cheese added a subtle texture and flavor that made it all better. In other words, it was a cathartic experience trying pasta in actual Italy for the first time. Overall, the experience was pretty flawless. There was no wait for a table, the staff was English-speaking and friendly, the food was fantastic and the best thing about pasta is that it's really not that expensive.
