Unfortunately, even after years of renting with Yellow Bird, I am sad to leave a 1 star review. I would leave zero stars, if possible. It's absolutely the worst customer service I have ever encountered in hospitality. They have nice properties listed, but don't count on your vacation sticking. We received an *email* two weeks before our rental that it was canceled due to "scheduling issues." (It had been reserved since November for week in July.) That's it, no call, no explanation, and no effort to try to remedy the situation. Despite the email saying we would receive a full refund, we have not. I have left over a dozen voicemails and no one has returned my calls. read more

Absolutely worthless. YellowBird is not a company you should trust for a good rental experience. We rented a home over the holidays and experienced a number of issues from the cleanliness of the home to the function - a back door that wouldn't open leaving us with only the front door for access, the oven missing its knob know so that it was inoperable, an old bathing suit bottom found under a mattress!, a sanitation liner (from a new bathing suit) found where the hair dryer was kept, a fire alarm that went off a 4AM due to a low battery, a filthy hot tub, cobwebs on all the light fixtures. I attempted to resolve this with the Yellowbird directly sending them no less than 6 texts and emails but ZERO response. This was not a cheap rental and we were so disappointed with our experience and their lack of response. There are plenty of other rental companies for the area. STAY AWAY. read more

We used Yellow Bird for Jack's Place in Union Pier MI. It was a nice (but older) home with a fire place, two bed rooms and a huge yard. It was priced right for all that we got and it is dog friendly. Our only complaint was that Yellow Bird Rentals drop the ball. We had to pick up what seemed like months worth of dog shit in the yard to make it usable. They didn't even offer any compensation of this egregious over site. Plus it was gross to have to pick up other peoples messes. Also, it would have been much better if the owner's family photos weren't everywhere in the house. It just felt weird having them looking at us. So, we just faced them down or took the off the walls. No big deal there. If you rent, ask for two sets of keys. The other issue was somewhat our fault. At the beach, we mistakenly camped out on Latts Cottage beach area and a crusty old man chased us off. We've had that happen in other situations, but this guys was a dick. In all honesty, we might try a different rental company. read more

This is the third year that I have had Yellow Bird Vacations help me find a rental home. They have always been helpful with our dates, even when we changed our home choices and dates several times to accommodate other family members. The homes have always been clean and include activity and restaurant information about the local community and general area. We had some special requests and Yellow Bird came through on all accounts. I was surprised to read the other review... every company can surely have a bad day, but none of my dealings with Yellow Bird were like the Stacey review. We got locked out of our home one year, and they came to our rescue within a half hour. One home didn't have enough silverware for our large family that came for the day, and she had someone bring out her own personal extra silverware set! Who does that? When our bbq propane tank ran out, we had one before dinner the next day. I have used other rental companies in the past, and rented straight from home owners... I feel that YBV has always come through for us with a personal touch, I feel that we're well taken care of, like extended family while we're in town. I will go to Yellow Bird first always for our vacation home rentals... Just be sure, like with renting any vacation home that you book in advance to avoid the craziness of the summer vacation rush, and you are sure to have a lovely experience. read more

Toni Morris helped us tremendously! We are getting married in New Buffalo this summer and had rented a huge house to accommodate our families in one spot. The rental was from a different company in New Buffalo and through no fault of their own the homeowners changed their mind and said they no longer wanted to rent their home that weekend. As upsetting as that was, our previous realtor put us in touch with Toni and she came in and helped us out. I can't say how thankful we are for her help. She took time out to drive us to multiple sites (all were very nice!). We settled on a home near our hotel with the reception, with a pool! We couldn't be happier. I will update this post after our stay, but the experience with Yellow Bird thus far has been phenomenal! read more

Beware of the owners of their listing "La Playa Grande"! They cancelled our rental for Labor Day three weeks prior to our dates without any explanation but blamed it on the "pandemic". They even took half the payment a month shared of time including a $1000 "COVID cleaning fee". Yellow bird issued a basic standard apology via email but again, did not provide an explanation and wouldn't even give us a call back which was extremely unprofessional. I had previously met with one of the owners, Dan. He was supposed to handle the rental of my property and other details. Contracts and details were to be sent the following Monday. After 2 weeks went by I called the Yellow Bird office to inquire and was told he was in vacation. Fair enough, mistakes happen and he is allowed vacation. 2 more weeks go by and I have called twice as rental season is beginning. He is either out or on phone every time. I cannot speak to his reliability once he has a check in hand from you. Still, I can say that trying to do business with this company is trying at best. 1/10 would not recommend. read more

Jon from Yellow Bird was amazing in helping my plan a trip to New Buffalo. I (and 12 friends) came to town for a wedding in Three Oaks this past March, and we're so glad we went with Yellow Bird. We got a beautiful house (As Good as it Gets) for a week, with plenty of room for everyone. It was an easy walk to town, close to everything we needed and so reasonably priced. The folks at Yellow Bird could not have made it easier, either. I booked the house site unseen from 1000 miles away, and Jon took care of all the details. They had the house spotless and ready earlier than when we were originally scheduled to arrive and checkout was a breeze. We'll definitely use Yellow Bird the next time we head back to Michiana for another adventure. read more

Yellow bird accepted a reservation for a vacation rental and requested over $7000 in prepayments for July rental. 2 days after our credit card was charged, Yellowbird cancelled the reservation. To date we have not received a refund after making multiple inquiries. The explanations and excuses provided by Yellowbird make no sense and we have requested an explanation and action plan. read more

We used Yellowbird as our rental agent for two summers when we rented our country house. Toni and the team were really terrific to work with. Highly responsive, thoughtful, trustworthy. They did a great job getting weekly renters in and were always flexible with terms. They have a great list of loyal customers who are high end and take good care of the property. Yellowbird has a great system set up for damages - with an insurance program for renters that incentivizes them to reveal any property damage right away. When we did have damage, no issues, Yellowbird always did exactly what was fair. I would highly recommend Yellowbird if you are considering renting out your summer home. You will be really happy you did and you will make more money than Airbnb or other services because of their amazing network of repeat renters. read more

We have rented homes in the New Buffalo area for many years but this year's rental through Yellow Bird was easily the most disappointing. After holding our deposit for the better part of a year our reservation was cancelled. Only after much encouragement on our part was Yellow Bird able to secure an alternative property. The Nancy Drew house was marketed as a four-bedroom, three bath property. One bedroom and bath were in a detached coach house. The loft of the coach house where the beds were located was not air conditioned. The temperature of the loft on our arrival was in triple digits rendering it unusable. The main floor was supposed to have a queen bed but only had a foldout couch which was not made up with sheets or pillows. The shower was not functional and there was no hot water available at all in the coach house. The curtains on the sliding door were hanging half off and the rug by the door was filthy. Two of our group who were staying in the coach house left after two days rather than stay in those conditions. The main house was fine except for a couple of issues. The door of the dishwasher was broken so it would drop to the floor when opened. The garbage cans from the previous tenant had not been emptied so there was nowhere to put garbage. We arrived on a Sunday and there was no trash pick-up until Friday. There were two lounge chairs by the pool and each of them was missing one wheel. The circuit breaker on the pool cover shorted out when it rained, and we were unable to use it for most of a day. It would have been an easy fix if the circuit breakers were not located in a locked area that we did not have access to. On Saturday morning at 6:30 am several large diesel trucks began arriving next door and before 7:00 am we were serenaded by chain saws and wood chippers for several hours. Numerous calls and complaints have not been responded to. If you plan on using Yellow Bird I would encourage you to add to your contract appropriate compensation if they cancel your reservation. You may also wish to use a property other than the Nancy Drew house. read more

My friends and I used Yellow Bird vacations fall of 2015. Our experience with them was wonderful. The owners of the home we were supposed to stay in wanted it for the weekend that we had already booked, so yellow bird vacations not only accommodated us to a different home, but upgraded us to a gorgeous larger home right on the beach! Also I accidentally left something very important to me in the home we stayed. In my mad panic I called, talked to Toni and that very evening during her personal time went to the home to find my belonging and overnight ship it to me! I am very grateful to her and I would absolutely recommend Yellowbird vacations !!! read more

We stayed at "Dream in Blue" through yellow bird. This house was beautiful and accommodated all our needs. Perfect vacation for a family! Tons of space for the kids to play and adults to relax on the gorgeous deck overlooking the in-ground pool. We were able to walk to the beach, park, and local golf course for extra entertainment. The open concept layout gave us all the space we needed to really enjoy ourselves. Pool, beach, numerous bedrooms and bathrooms... a perfect getaway! read more

This was our first experience with Yellow Bird Vacations. We had an extended family vacation with people from 71 to 7 weeks. They helped us find a location that was great. We stayed at As Good As It Gets in New Buffalo. The yard space provided room for games and the fire pit was a great gathering place at night for stories and smores. The best part though is the service we got. About 1/2 way though our stay the A/C failed in the cottage. They came out right away and checked and when the repair person said it would take 2 days for the part to come in, they immediately gave us three options and left it up to us to decide. Since part of the group was leaving anyway, we moved everyone into the main house. We hardly missed a beat in our plans. Great location, great property, but the topper is the great service. read more

My family has been renting from Toni and Yellow Bird Rentals for over 8 years. We have contacted her sometimes well in advance, and sometimes at the last minute and she always finds us a charming and super clean rental. Some summers we have had a large family vacation of over 12 people and sometimes we have vacationed with our small family and she has always been able to accommodate us. We have never had any complaints and in fact she knows a great deal about the area. I usually spend the first day asking about what was going on that week and if there was anything special she would recommend to do with the kids. I have never considered renting from anyone else because we feel so lucky having known Toni and have gotten such great service. read more

We rented the Azur Pool House for the 4th of July week. The pool and hot tub were fabulous and the house very nice. Access to the beautiful private beach was easy. However, the owners should have removed more of their clothing from the closets and drawers. In addition, some of the kitchen amenities were broken: dust buster, tongs, to name a few. Worst of all, the kitchen and refrigerator were not as clean as they should have been upon arrival. We expected more because we paid top dollar. Prior to our stay, I contacted Jon Darby a few times because we rented sight unseen. Jon seemed quite annoyed with my questions and did not spend the time with me that I needed. Last year,we rented from Bluefish. We had a fabulous experience with them but were not able to rent from them this year because they didn't have anything in the size we needed. read more

Toni Morris from Yellow Bird helped me find a vacation home for my family this past July (or so I thought). She confirmed the dates with me, and said she was sending out the contract. I let my family know, who then made travel plans as they live far away. About a week later, I get an email from her saying the dates I wanted were now unavailable for my property - that they owners of the property wanted it for the week I did, and could I move my dates!! (which I couldn't). So she said she would help me find something else. Several days went by, and I didn't hear from her, so I had to do the search myself, and luckily got the one remaining place for my dates through a different agency (New Buffalo Rentals). I then get an email from her saying sorry, and asking where I was staying, so she could have an Oinks gift card there for me and my family. Low and behold, no gift card. I even emailed her when I was there asking where my gift card was, and I never received a response back. Wow - I can almost understand if it was the property owners fault for not giving her the dates they wanted...but then to not help me find something else, and to not even follow through with a lousy gift card! You can not depend on this company. read more

This is my very first yelp review so that should tell you something right away. We rented a house through yellowbird with my extended family to celebrate the holidays and my son's 3rd birthday. The original house had some problems with flies- both dead and flying around on the second floor in several of the bedrooms. We called Toni at yellowbird and within an hour, she took us to two more properties to see if either would meet our needs. Neither worked because of various issues (space, layout etc). So she sent us back to the original house to feed our kids dinner (the first floor had no flies) and about an hour later called us to tell us she pulled some strings and found us an amazing house. This house was twice the size of the original, gorgeous and valued at about 3 times what we paid! She even said we could stay an extra night. The next morning Anna came over to bring some additional hand soap (the house was lacking some soap) and a lovely gift to apologize. I am so pleased with the responsiveness and consideration Toni and Anna took to ensure our family vacation was perfect! I would definitely rent with them again! read more
