This is a beautiful property with lovely furnishings and a wonderfully landscaped outdoors. There are lots of nooks and crannies both indoors and out to curl up with a book or relax with a glass of wine. Hillary is an excellent host and cook. We stayed there for a long weekend in June. We had one suite & some friends of ours stayed in another suite. Breakfasts were awesome. Janice was great. She was covering for Hillary. Our beds were comfortable. I believe there are 6 or 7 suites. One night it was a full house. We sat around the fire pit and talked with some of the guests.A+ or 10 out of 10. I absolutely loved our stay this past weekend. We stayed for our anniversary in the cottage room. Our room was spacious, very clean, cozy and perfect for a romantic celebration weekend with my husband. We had some delays and drove up later than planned but Jerry was super welcoming and helped us get settled in. There were free bikes to rent and ride about a mile down to the beach. Our in room massage was a romantic and bring an avid massage girl the Lady did a great job! Breakfast was delicious - home style and brought to our room every morning. Nice little Bed & Breakfast, or so I would assume as this was my first time staying at such a place. Everything was nice & clean. We stayed in the big red pet friendly room above the carriage house, and it had everything you might need: Smart TV with cable, WiFi, mini fridge, microwave, cups, plates, cork screw, hair dryer (my wife always needs to know so she doesn't have to lug hers around). The whole place had a quaint country house vibe going on, think of the house from Beetlejuice before the Deetz's moved in and redecorated. The included breakfast was legit good. No frozen Eggo's or microwaved precooked bacon. The first day we got a fresh baked blueberry muffin and egg & cheese tacos with salsa and avocado plus sweet potato hash. The second day was a slice of lemon pound cake and some kind of baked egg casserole that was loaded with veggies and topped with a slightly spicy tomato jam, fruit salad, and sourdough toast. We overheard another couple complaining about not liking something or another, and the hostess seemed more than happy to scramble this fussy eater up some eggs. Coffee was real good too. This place is close to all kinds of wineries, breweries, and stuff to do. I'd go back for sure. read more

We stayed at Garden Grove in April 2022, and it was great! We chose it because of the beautiful pictures, the location and designation as a Certified Safe Space - all very important to us. Hillary was great and responsive the week before checkin as we planned our trip to St. Joseph and Union Pier. Super easy walk (under 10 min) to the wineries down the road. We stayed in the Sunflower room which was lovely and so cozy...seriously, the best night of sleep I've had in a while. Breakfast was tasty, too...we'll definitely be back! read more

Jerry and Paula are absolute saints! My girlfriend and I stayed at the Garden Grove for a weekend away last summer and it overly exceeded our expectations. To start, we came up from Chicago and took the Amtrak so we didn't have a car. Jerry was nice enough to give us a ride home from dinner the first night out of sheer generosity. We woke up to an amazing breakfast featuring fresh fruit from around the local area. They also have bikes on property that we used to bike to the beach and to New Buffalo. The property is gorgeous featuring beautiful foliage and their own garden. The room was clean, spacious, and had an awesome jacuzzi bathtub that came in the clutch! We will be back here again and cannot wait to have another great weekend at the Garden Grove. Pro Tip - Grab their bikes and hit some of the local wine tasting centers just down the road. read more

Absolutely loved our stay at Garden Grove. Clean and comfortable. And so many amenities. Loved the fireplace near the king size bed on one side and the sitting room on the other. Jacuzzi tub in the room was another plus. Loved that breakfast was brought to our room each morning and the food was delicious. We used their bikes and rode a short distance down the road to St Julian's Winery for tasting. At night we made a fire in the fire pit and enjoyed the fresh night air. Great location. My BF and i went to this place in January. Not much business....anywhere. we knew that. We wanted to get away for a couple of nights. Jerry the owner sent me an email with links to things to do and places to eat. He gave us this information again when we checked in (on a weekday). We didn't meet Paula his wife. The next morning we had breakfast. We cleaned up the room a bit. I put the bed sheets on the floor. Big mistake!!! We went out for the day. I phoned jerry at 4pm to tell him we prefer not to have bacon in our 2nd breakfast (17 hours notice). He respondedvery rudely with "you should have emailed me your dietary preferences ahead of time." In the same rude manner he wanted to know why i stripped the bed. He said they do not wash the sheets everyday if they do not need to be treated. I honestly felt like he was scolding me. I apologized for his inconvience, and said goodbye. He did not respond. He just hung up. The 1st breakfast that paula delivered to our door, i thanked her. She kept walking and said you're welcome over her shoulder. The 2nd breakfast she delivered to our door, my BF said thank you. Again, she kept walking and over her shoulder, said, "uh huh." What kind of b and b owner behavior is that?!?! I have been in the hospitality business a long time, and i have stayed in b and b's in Ireland. The b and b owner in Ireland could not do enough....and she was at full occupancy. My bed was not a queen. It was a full. We stayed in the garden retreat. The wet bar sink needed a plunger. I made them aware of a hairline crack in the champagne class (not our fault). They did not thank me. We will not go back, and i will not send anybody to this place. Back to Door County!! read more

My wife and I have spent about six fun filled weekends at Garden Grove Bed & Breakfast. We have stayed at several different B&B's, but this one is by far our favorite. The owners (Paula & Jerry) are extremely friendly, helpful and great cooks to boot (the breakfasts are so good)! The rooms are nicely appointed, especially our favorite room - The Woodlands Suite (very spacious with king sleigh bed, two person jacuzzi tub, wifi, firdge & wet bar, gas fireplace, and a sitting area with large windows. The grounds of the B&B are beautiful as well. Union Pier is a wonderful location for a weekend get-a-way for Chicagoans. Only about an hour away, but such a different vibe. Once at Garden Grove the B&B itself is so nice we often spend a good amount of time just enjoying our space there, but there is a ton to do within a short drive. The beach is nearby, the B&B has bicycles you can borrow for free, there are several wineries a short drive away, lots of restaurants to choose from, a casino, an outlet mall, fruit picking orchards, golf courses etc. Definitely something for everybody. It is also a very relaxing place to go off season as well and have found the locals to be especially friendly when staying there off season. Paula and Jerry are very knowledgeable about the area and if you let them know your interests they will provide you with good recommendations of sites or activities to take in. I strongly urge anybody looking for fun weekend away from Chicago to take a look at Garden Grove; it is such a great choice for celebrating a special occasion or just for a fun, relaxing get-a-way. read more

For our third anniversary my girlfriend Cindy surprised me by staying at the Garden Grove bread and breakfast. I thought that it was utterly amazing. The location was fantastic to go sight seeing and vineyards. Also we stayed at the sunflower room, which had lots of great touches. We had popcorn and chocolate provided, our room had a lovely fireplace, and even a jacuzzi! The innkeepers Paula and Jerry are absolutely lovely, and the breakfasts were utterly amazing and delicious. Even though we arrived late, Jerry welcomed us with open arms. Was a nice quiet stay away from the city life! We stayed in the Sunflower room which had a gas fireplace and nice jetted tub. Breakfast was delicious with a veggie quiche one morning and jam filled French toast the next, with juice and fruit too!! The owners were friendly and really helped to make us feel at home! They were knowledgable and not invasive at all! The area is great and only a short drive to many different attractions. My wife and I stayed her the weekend of 10/23/2021. We stayed in the lavender room. It was an amazing experience. Hilary was there as soon as we checked in, and was very friendly and accommodating. She left a note for my wifes birthday, along with a bottle of wine, a great touch! The room was awesome, the fireplace was great, and the tub was relaxing! The property is very quiet and peaceful. My husband booked a weekend in the "Lavender Room" for our anniversary. The pictures really don't do this place justice, it's even nicer in person. The location is perfect, it's like a romantic hideaway from the rest of the world. Upon our arrival, Jerry was very welcoming & knowledgeable regarding the area. The room was clean and cozy, the bed was comfortable & the jacuzzi tub was SOOO relaxing! Breakfast was prompt, hot, delicious and plenty for two. Paula was very accommodating when cleaning, replenishing towels, etc. My husband arranged for me to get a massage in the room & the masseuse, Angie was incredible, it was one of the best massages I've ever had. The rates are very reasonable, especially considering what is included and the quality of the accommodations. The hardest part will be going back to everyday life and trying to figure out when the best time to make a return visit will be! ******UPDATE****** Just enjoyed our second stay at Garden Grove. This time we stayed in the "Rose Room" which is located in the main house. It was very cute & cozy & in the main house, breakfast is served downstairs & Paula is SO attentive in making sure your breakfast is hot & has all of the accompaniments to go with it. We spent the weekend here for our fifth wedding anniversary. We loved our stay! The house and our room were beautifully decorated without being overdone and tacky. We stayed in the Sunflower room, and enjoyed the in-room jacuzzi. Jerry and Paula were very nice, and incredibly knowledgeable about the area and the local restaurants and activities. My wife is gluten-free, and Paula got some gluten-free scones from a friend that owns another B&B in town that bakes them. This was a wonderful, close (coming from IN), quiet getaway for my boyfirend & I. The first time for Valentine's weekend, we stayed in the Rose room. The first time we stayed in Rose room, it was a bigger room and had a mini-frig and jacuzzi tub. The 2nd visit during the summer, I chose the Sunflower room which had a gas fireplace and the jacuzzi tub but with a balcony this time, no frig. However, with the balcony, it was a smaller room than the Rose but just as nice. All breakfasts were divine. During our first stay, we had pumpkin pancakes with sausage, eggs, fruit & juice. And the next day was a wonderful veggie quiche with asparagus & fruit! Her quiche is phenomenal! During our 2nd stay, we had banana nut pancakes with sausage, eggs, fruit & juice. And on the 2nd visit we had her famous quiche again, so good! And both visits we had her cherry-rhubarb cobbler, which was delish! The owners, Paula & Jerry, are very friendly and really helped to make us feel at home! They were very knowledgable of restaurants and things to do in the area. The area is great and only a short drive to many different attractions. I was pleased and am happy for our first stay and our return trip to our new favorite Bed & Breakfast! We have stayed in many B & Bs over the years & we have never met owners who were not very pleasant- actually Paula was nice but Jerry seemed to have woken up on the wrong side of the bed for 3 days! We told him we had stayed here before & there was no welcome back, nothing. He just was not friendly, chewed us out for where we parked ( we parked behind his car & just temporarily, until we unloaded the car). He talked to us like we were idiots! We had to change rooms due to my husband's health issues (our oversight, not his) and we thanked Paula for her help & he was just rude. So many other places to meet nice innkeepers. Grounds are lovely, breakfast was nice, he was helpful with suggestions but... we must have caught him on 3 rough days - We won't return- read more

Anniversary get-away weekend. Garden Grove helped us book massages, dining, wineries, and more. Much better than staying at a busy hotel or motel. Located close to everything but at the end of the day far enough away to enjoy some peace and quiet. Close to marina to charter a yacht, close to dining at famous Tabor Hill, and about 10 minutes from the casino for the rainey days. Owners are amazingly friendly. Garden Grove is missing the most important ingredient of a good bed and breakfast. We have stayed at many other b&b's and almost all of them have been great. Most provide large rooms and great amenities but it is the wonderful personalities of the owners that make them special. Simply put, the owners make you feel at home. Make you feel that they really enjoy having you visit. They smile and it makes you happy that you chose their b&b for your stay. Unfortunately, Garden Grove is at the other end of the spectrum. We did not mind the small room, limited public areas or lack of amenities because all were reflected in the price. And all would have been insignificant if the owners were anything like those described in the above paragraph. Unfortunately, both owners do not seem happy with running a b&b and it is noticeable. Ever feel like someone who has overstayed his welcome? Not a great feeling when it is only the first day of our visit and you have another two to follow. The bottom line is Garden Grove is perfect if you only need is for a low price room. But we have stayed at a number of b&b's in the area over the years and, if you are looking for a great b&b experience, the others would be a far better choice. read more

The inn itself is very nice. The breakfast was fine. Unfortunately Jerry, the innkeeper was not so nice. He seemed put out that we had booked at the last minute even though their website has a last minute special encouraging you to book later and receive a discount. I had booked the Sunflower room because it had two comfortable chairs in front of the fireplace. Both my husband and I have trouble sleeping and occasionally one of us will get up at night so a comfortable area to sit really helps. When we arrived Jerry told us he would like to "upgrade" our reservation to the Lavender Suite in the Carriage House. Apparently it was an offer we weren't supposed to refuse. The Lavender room had two uncomfortable wicker chairs and a bed. There was nowhere else to sit. When my husband asked Jerry for an alternative Jerry began yelling at him, telling him he would not move any furniture for us. My husband attempted to calm him down and asked for the room we had originally booked. This made him upset as well and he told my husband he couldn't understand why we didn't want the "upgrade" in a manner that implied we were ungrateful for his gift of a more expensive room. He finally agreed we could move but told my husband it was causing him more work and trouble. When I was told what happened I immediately wanted to leave as I felt very uncomfortable and upset. I had never experienced treatment like this staying at any other B&B or hotel. However I knew he had my credit card and didn't want to get into an inevitable fight for a refund. My husband convinced me to stay and make the best of it. It was our anniversary and we just wanted a quick get away. Jerry was aloof for the remainder of our dealings with him. He didn't lose his temper again, mainly because we didn't ask for anything else to avoid another outburst. I was glad to leave and would not go back or recommend the Garden Grove to anyone. I wish I could agree with other good reviews, but that was not our experience. I don't think I'll stay at any B&B for a long time after this. read more

This is maybe the 10th time that we have stayed at Garden Grove. We love the west coast of MI and Garden Grove. We always stay in the Woodlands Suite which is lovely and huge. The suite has a walk-in shower a jetted tub, a small kitchen, a separate sitting room and a king bed. Look out the window into trees and you will see carved animals in trees looking back at you. Jerry & Paula are great hosts. They know the area well and have tons of suggestions on where to go and what to do. They are always willing to make last minute reservations and get us a table or call on our behalf for anything we need Both are accomplished in the kitchen and breakfast is always good. my boyfriend and i went for a romantic weekend getaway and it didn't really start until we got to the garden grove. there isn't anything about this place that isn't full of charm. we stayed in the rose room which has a great queen bed, 2 person jacuzzi & a 15' vhs tv. yes, you read that right. but everything was so "country charm" that somehow, this relic from 1999 not only made sense but was the most charming thing of all. breakfast by paula was insanely good. her humor and jerry's knowledge made for the perfect keepers to put you at ease. also - the outdoor tabby cat is just one of countless other things that remind you that you're here to relax and take it slow. we'll be coming back and i hope you try this place out. it really was a great find! read more

My wife and I stayed at Garden Grove this past weekend for our tenth wedding anniversary. We both agreed the overall experience was very positive. We stayed in the Sunflower Room which includes a gas fireplace with armchairs facing it and a jacuzzi tub. Quite comfortable and we enjoyed relaxing by the fire each night. Breakfast was really good and better than most B & B's we have stayed. The menu included a bacon cheese omelette, vegetable quiche, and sausage with eggs. Each morning we had fresh fruit, juice and coffee. The innkeepers Jerry and Paula were very friendly and helpful when it came to recommending local restaurants, breweries, wineries, and other attractions. They also made arrangements for an in room message. I would highly recommend Garden Grove. We plan on staying there again on our next weekend getaway to SW MI Harbor Country. read more

Garden Grove was our first bed and breakfast experience and I was very impressed. The pictures really do not do this inn justice and I can only assume that the few bad Yelp reviews must've been flukes. Jerry and Paula were super nice and very accommodating and hospitable from start to finish. The Rose room (which I thought looked way too pink when viewing the pics online) was roomy, quaint, and super clean with an attached bathroom with a wonderful jacuzzi bathtub. The grounds of the inn were gorgeous with lots of lush plants and quiet sitting areas. The breakfast was delicious with fresh fruit, melt-in-your-mouth blueberry pancakes, eggs and sausage links. And to top it off, the inn is only a 5 min bike ride (they have lots of bikes available for use if you don't bring your own) from a couple of wineries (which we loved) in one direction and a local beach (which we loved) in the other. I am definitely now sold on Bed and Breakfast inns and we plan to come back to visit as soon as possible. read more
