Errors in listing caused us to miss a portion of the movie. Not a very well run operation.

Grizzly & Wolf Discovery Center - Bears still hibernating

In between treks into Yellowstone National Park, we took some of the kids to the Grizzlies & Wolf…read moreDiscovery Center, on Canyon Rd just south of the west entrance to the park. It began as a refuge so save several bears and wolves who had to be removed from the wild. Now it also includes otters, ground squirrels, and birds of prey. We observed each in designated habitats. The otters had a pond and tank to swim in. Fake logs gave the squirrels and maybe a groundhog some shelter and activity. We came back twice more, learning to make reservations for the kids to help feed the bears. When the bears were closed off, the kids got to hide food for them under rocks and logs, while a large flock of ravens hunted for anything left-uncovered by the kids or the bears. We saw an owl and a pair of eagles. It was fun! We visited here three times in a week! And they let people use the same tickets two days in a row :-)

We found this spot as a point of interest during our trip to Yellowstone, so we decided to stop in…read moreafter having lunch! - PARKING - HUGE parking lot - definitely no worry about finding a spot here! - SERVICE/ENVIRONMENT - When you walk in, you'll see all the pricing and available ticket options on the board above the front desk. We had a party of 12 but luckily we were able to walk in after purchasing our individual tickets. Note they also do AAA and student rates here! - EXPERIENCE - Its not the biggest center but decent enough sized that we spent about an hour to an hour and half here. There's a large bear compound in the center and they do feedings - check out the schedule board so you don't miss it! My next favorite area were the ground squirrels - how adorable!!! I do wish there were more otters to see, but only one was really active and swimming around. - OVERALL - A cool spot if you're driving by Yellowstone and want to support this center!

Wonderful addition to the surrounding communities for locals. Sure to be a hit for those who come for big tourist attractions of snowmobiling, St. Anthony sand dunes and incredible fly fishing on the Madison river. Relax and enjoy the popcorn!

It has the biggest screen in the area for movies. They give a military and senior discount. It's ONLY $5!! That's for first run movies, even. They play movies in the summer for kids. They have really good popcorn and last I was there had flavorings for the pocorn, too. Their concession prices are less than Fat Cats. It is an old building and has that vintage charm - including the marque. The staff pays attention to the movies and what's happening so if something is wrong they know. There are just curtains that separate the lobby from the theater so they can hear everything that's happening sound wise and are very prompt at fixing it. They have deals in the Starving Student card and all the high school cards. CONS: The bathrooms are old and small. But it's a really old building, too. They have a small lobby so when there's a premier it's kinda crowded in the lobby, BUT there's plenty of room for everyone in the theater (500 seats!), There's no drinking fountain, St. Anthony is only a 15 minute drive from Rexburg and the experience plus the lower cost is much more worth the drive than going to the first run theater (Fat Cats) in Rexburg. They do Superbowl parties there, and other events sometimes too! It's all streamed from an HD projector onto that huge screen.

They offer military and other discounts on their entrance fee The gift shop area includes information on local, current mining operations as well as merch. This is an outdoor museum so dress for the weather. If you want to take the under ground tour be sure you are wearing closed toed shoes. (Crocs not included, I don't know why) They also have above ground tours. Part of the property is set up like a western town. Something that would grow up around a mine. Post office, apothecary, carpenter, blacksmith, etc, etc. All these buildings are set up with window displays but most are not open to the public. You just peer thru the windows. There is a memorial garden to miners. A mine yard with pieces of heavy equipment. The motorized lift, miners locker room, light room, information and equipment used in dry and wet boring, 3D representations of mines and more with information posted on the displays. You can walk up into the mine head if you are so inclined to see how the ore chutes operated. We spent about two hours here without realizing it. Very interesting museum. Staff are very personable, answered questions and suggested reading material for more on the subject. Very good, family friendly stop.
