Burger had lettuce, tomato and onion on it. It tasted great. The only bad thing was the bottom of the bun was soggy. That's why I put my lettuce under the burger. There is a rustic car out front with an area outside but the windows can be closed to be indoors. The inside is large with a pool table in the entrance area. The staff was nice enough to close the large windows when it got called. For appetizers, we got the Bison Bone Marrow. It was good but needed a little salt, if u like bone marrow though it doesn't taste much different from any other ones. For dinner, we got the Black and Blue, which is a steak salad. It came with vinaigrette, but as a salad, it still wasn't that filling, so if you're looking for something light with some protein, this would be good. We also got 2 of the pastas, including the Mussel Pasta which was packed to the brim with mussel, unsure if it was cause it was the end of the night, but there was a lot. Kept opening mussels and somehow there would still be more. We also added mushrooms to this, which is a good idea for a little veggie. The pasta sauce itself is on the thinner side, with a liquid consistency by the end. The other pasta was the Elk Ravioli, and the pieces of this were huge. It was very saucy but still filling. If you got some fries, I would try them in the sauce. We, of course, had to try some Yellowstone specialities. The Bison and Elk burgers. Honestly, because we got one with cheese and one without it tasted kind of similar. I would opt for no cheese if you really want to get the meat flavor. My son had the elk burger with pepper jack cheese and sautéed onions. I had the bison burger with pepper jack cheese and straw onions and opted for the onion rings instead of French fries. The server took forever to bring our drinks. Didn't bring everyone's drinks. Had to be reminded. Not friendly at all. Would set things down without a single word. The drinks (soda and tea) tasted awful. He didn't offer any kind of customer service, "oh, I'm sorry, can I get you something else?" Nope. No one has taught this guy how to be friendly and helpful. We got the elk burger. One was medium as ordered. One was well done but was supposed to be medium. The third was over cooked. The meat was meat, no seasoning at all. Best part of the sandwich was the toasted brioche bun. The fries and onion rings were underwhelming for a $20 plate. Way too expensive for what was a served and the service was awful. To end our good times visiting Yellowstone National Park, we wanted to eat a meal that we likely wouldn't have been able to get anywhere else. Insert Hanks Chop Shop, an American restaurant off of the main road in the town of West Yellowstone that sells bison, elk, and beef burgers. As a group of 7, we had to wait about 15-20 minutes before we were given a table, which wasn't too bad. After being shown our table, we perused through the menu and ordered what we wanted. I decided on a buffalo burger and P2 went with the elk burger. We got both with a side of fries. This place was very busy when we came, but the waiter did his best to take care of us. It took about 20-25 minutes for our food to come out, and the food was noticeably still hot and fresh. Bison is known to be very lean and dry, which is exactly what I wanted and tasted. The elk burger had the familiar "gamey" taste to it, but offered a different experience to P2, which was their first time trying it. The fries were cooked perfectly as well, with the crispy texture and light-brown color as marks of an excellent fry cook. For what we paid, we thought we received outsized value. The prices here are a little bit cheaper than elsewhere in town, but the quality was still phenomenal. We enjoyed our time at Hanks Chop Shop and would recommend everyone to try them out! read more

Bad service. Asked the host to seat a group of one, and he offered the bar. When I told him I would prefer a table, he had me wait. After about 15 minutes, multiple groups had come in and been seated immediately. I have no idea why they did not seat me before at least two groups of two that had come in. Left the park after an early morning trip and stopped in around noon. The place is very rustic vibe but tvs and sports bar vibe on one side and restaurant on the other. It wasn't very busy when we arrived and the staff was great. I had the French dip and white truffle parm fries. I am not a big French fry lover but these were amazing. Crispy with the hint of the truffle oil and aioli and green onions set them off perfectly. The French dip steak was super flavorful with perfect mix of crunch chewy roll. The only thing that wasn't perfect was the auju and it was quite as flavorful as it could have been but honestly the rest of the sandwich was so good it wasn't needed. This was a really nice bar and grill. Most of the restaurants have a bar, casino and liquor store here in West Yellowstone. We got seated right away and our waiter brought our food out fast. My steak was cooked to perfection and melted in your mouth. The same went for my fiancées filet. Her mashed potatoes are good. I knew my baked potato was from Idaho because it was the best one I had ever had. The service was great. They have a lot of beers on tap and plenty of TVs all over. Their outdoor patio was top notch. I've been to Hank's quite a few times in the past and have always had good experiences, which made this visit especially disappointing. When we walked in, we weren't greeted at all and ended up waiting about 10 minutes just to get menus. Things didn't improve from there. I ordered an elk burger medium (expecting it to still be kind of bloody), but when the food arrived, I immediately noticed what looked like an eyelash sitting on my fries. When I pointed it out to the server, she initially dismissed it and said she didn't see anything--even after I showed her. Only after pointing it out multiple times did she acknowledge it and offer to replace the fries, which was frustrating. Unfortunately, the replacement didn't make up for the rest of the meal. When I went back to my burger, it was clearly overcooked and burnt, with barely any pink at all. Overall, this was a really disappointing experience, especially compared to my past visits. We also ordered the bison burger (not pictured) which I was told - was absolutely incredible. The second night, our server was Vinny. He was truly delightful and made our night SO fun. I was freezing bc it was pretty cold around 30 something degrees. He made me fresh delicious coffee to warm me up! David had an IPA as usual. I ordered the lemon pepper trout and it came with a baked potato and three giant asparagus. David had a giant Bison Burger and salad which had everything in it. I think this was our favorite place to eat on our Yellowstone trip. The atmosphere is happy and it was pretty busy. The spinach dip was good and the little crostinis were perfect (soft on the inside and crunchy little crust). The truffle fries were okay, just really greasy, as in there was a puddle of grease on the plate. I had the lemon pepper trout, which came with wild rice and asparagus and everything was really tasty. This is a cross between a pub and a steakhouse, with a lively atmosphere and something of a loud ambiance. Broch, our waiter, was a standout as he excellently handled our group of 21, anticipating needs and keeping up effortlessly, while maintaining a great attitude. I have visited restaurants across the globe, dining at multi-Michelin starred joints everywhere from Taipei to Toronto, and Broch ranks with some of the best. The food was quite good--not exceptional, but far above what I've come to expect from tourist towns like this, and I would come here again if I were in the area. Our group ordered the spinach dip, truffle fries, wings, onion rings, steaks and burgers, chicken alfredo, salads, and generally half the menu. Everything was cooked well, and arrived nicely put together. The only negative standout, was that some of our members commented that the chicken tasted a little weird--not bad, but maybe frozen in the past. The price was definitely a little expensive for what it is, but considering that it's a semi steakhouse in West Yellowstone I don't feel it's entirely unjustified. The staff at hanks are always on point with taking orders , friendly , easy to talk to if you need anything they will get it right away .. The menu is awesome offering anything you desire from the best cream cheese spinach dip to prime rib on weekends .. pastas , salads , burgers and wood fired pizza .. you can't go wrong at hanks, and while everyone complains about pricing these days, Hanks value is you get what you pay for and they are very reasonable..
