While in Yellowstone during our last trip we visited Hanks for dinner 3 nights in a row. They had a variety of dishes that we wanted to try and each night we were in for a treat! The food was absolutely delicious, service was fast and friendly and the vibe was busy and energetic. We got in right away all three nights. Great place to meet up with friends or have a large party gathering.

We stopped in here on our first night in West Yellowstone because there wasn't a wait and the menu seemed to have a little bit of everything. If you're interested in watching a sporting event, they had a ton of screens to view. We started our meal with the spinach dip. Our server, Abby, suggested we order some extra crostini to go with it. At first it seemed like she was just trying to upsell us, but it was totally the right call. The dip was excellent and the crostini was not the usual hard bread that a lot of places have. For my entree, I got the chicken burger, which was basically just a grilled chicken breast on a bun. The taste was fine, but the grilled onions saved it. Others at the table got the Caesar salad and a pizza. They all said they were OK, but nothing extraordinary.

We were told about this place from our fishing guide. She told us the steaks were expensive, but the burgers were good and reasonable. We drove there and the wait was roughly 45 minutes. It was closer to 25 and we were seated. I ordered the cheeseburger, with fries. The wait was a bit long, but the burger was great. The fries were fresh. If I am ever back, I would stop here again.

Hanks Chop Shop is that typical American restaurant that serves all the American food you can think of surrounding by entertainments to draw customer retention. Providing that upscale casual vibe with a lot of TVs for sport, drink bar, a pool table, mini casino, and an alcoholic store that's hidden in the far back. There are lots of parking for the restaurant which is great. Hence the large space of serving interiorly. The food came out great with USDA qualified prime meet of Bison and Elk. Will say the front kitchen staffs presented was quite slow but maintained fair enough with the host to get seated and managing waitlisted customers. The food also took some time to come out. So when visiting, do expect an actual wait time during peak season!

**Note: paying cash gives a little discount** This was an interesting restaurant with a casino and liquor store right in the back. There is a rustic car out front with an area outside but the windows can be closed to be indoors. The inside is large with a pool table in the entrance area. The staff was nice enough to close the large windows when it got called. For appetizers, we got the Bison Bone Marrow. It was good but needed a little salt, if u like bone marrow though it doesn't taste much different from any other ones. For dinner, we got the Black and Blue, which is a steak salad. It came with vinaigrette, but as a salad, it still wasn't that filling, so if you're looking for something light with some protein, this would be good. We also got 2 of the pastas, including the Mussel Pasta which was packed to the brim with mussel, unsure if it was cause it was the end of the night, but there was a lot. Kept opening mussels and somehow there would still be more. We also added mushrooms to this, which is a good idea for a little veggie. The pasta sauce itself is on the thinner side, with a liquid consistency by the end. The other pasta was the Elk Ravioli, and the pieces of this were huge. It was very saucy but still filling. If you got some fries, I would try them in the sauce. We, of course, had to try some Yellowstone specialities. The Bison and Elk burgers. Honestly, because we got one with cheese and one without it tasted kind of similar. I would opt for no cheese if you really want to get the meat flavor. And we also got the Bison Ribeye, we got medium. It was nice and thick, but it only came with 2 asparagus. Was expecting a little more of that rather than the mashed potatoes, which were more on the chunky side.

Rustically decorated sports bar with a mini casino (video gaming) and liquor store. Tons of TVs, pool table, full bar. All tables are tall, except for four booths. Service was great, Julie did a great job, being she was the only person working. The squeeze and I shared the elk burger, got it medium with onion rings. No charge for an extra plate. Burger had lettuce, tomato and onion on it. It tasted great. The only bad thing was the bottom of the bun was soggy. That's why I put my lettuce under the burger. Onion rings were very good and plentiful. I had the Amber ale to top it off.

Drove into town and stopped for an early dinner before checking into the hotel. The person at the front handed us menus and told us to seat ourselves. We sat on the front patio area. Tables were dirty so we cleaned one off ourselves. It took about 10-15 minutes for anyone to acknowledge us. We finally ordered and the food also took a long time to be delivered. My son had the elk burger with pepper jack cheese and sautéed onions. I had the bison burger with pepper jack cheese and straw onions and opted for the onion rings instead of French fries. My son loved his and devoured it. Mine was a bit dry. I did love the bun and toppings, especially the pickles. The onion rings were large and good. I had the Montana Lemonade and it was very good! Loved the old trucks and yeti outside.

To end our good times visiting Yellowstone National Park, we wanted to eat a meal that we likely wouldn't have been able to get anywhere else. Insert Hanks Chop Shop, an American restaurant off of the main road in the town of West Yellowstone that sells bison, elk, and beef burgers. As a group of 7, we had to wait about 15-20 minutes before we were given a table, which wasn't too bad. After being shown our table, we perused through the menu and ordered what we wanted. I decided on a buffalo burger and P2 went with the elk burger. We got both with a side of fries. This place was very busy when we came, but the waiter did his best to take care of us. It took about 20-25 minutes for our food to come out, and the food was noticeably still hot and fresh. Bison is known to be very lean and dry, which is exactly what I wanted and tasted. The elk burger had the familiar "gamey" taste to it, but offered a different experience to P2, which was their first time trying it. The fries were cooked perfectly as well, with the crispy texture and light-brown color as marks of an excellent fry cook. For what we paid, we thought we received outsized value. The prices here are a little bit cheaper than elsewhere in town, but the quality was still phenomenal. We enjoyed our time at Hanks Chop Shop and would recommend everyone to try them out!

This was a really nice bar and grill. Most of the restaurants have a bar, casino and liquor store here in West Yellowstone. We got seated right away and our waiter brought our food out fast. My steak was cooked to perfection and melted in your mouth. The same went for my fiancées filet. Her mashed potatoes are good. I knew my baked potato was from Idaho because it was the best one I had ever had. The service was great. They have a lot of beers on tap and plenty of TVs all over. Their outdoor patio was top notch. Lots of little nostalgic pieces outside the restaurant. I'm quite happy with this place and I know you will be too.

They have outdoor dining where dogs are allowed as well as indoor dining with a bar. As of May 2026 when we went, the menu online was not the menu we received when we dined in, so I attached a photo but keep in mind it can change. The service here was great, it was out waitress Brooke's first night and she was wonderful. The manager and staff overall were fantastic and the food came out at a good pace, not too long or short a wait. For starters we ordered the grilled peach burrata salad, elk and bison chili, crispy brussel sprouts and chicken wings with huckleberry bbq sauce. Each of these were very tasty and we would eat them all again. I would argue the appetizers were better than the entrees. The wings were slightly under par compared to the other dishes, but that is just because they needed more huckleberry flavor (very light). For entrees we ordered the pan seared trout and the grilled ribeye. Both were massive portions, the trout came with wild rice and asparagus, the steak came with goat cheese mashed potatoes and brussel sprouts. The trout was served as two big filets (found a few small bones, but no big deal) and was cooked well, but one filet needed more seasoning and was a little fishy tasting. The rice was a bit boring and dry, but the asparagus were superb. The ribeye was cooked nicely and tasted even better with the chipotle lime butter it came with. The mashed potatoes were great and did taste of goat cheese and the brussel sprouts were delicious, very similar to the appetizer preparation. Similar to the trout, the portion of steak was large, but a good portion of it was gristle and fat (about 30-40%). Overall a nice meal with huge serving sizes. Had we known how big the entrees would be, we may have shared one or ordered less appetizers. Great service with a pleasant ambiance.

But for all normal yelpers I would recommend avoiding this place especially if you are here on vacation. We are here for a family vacation and were excited to come to block 3 for our first dinner night. I'm always a little skeptical about hotel restaurants as they are either great or really bad. Let's just say we all left here very disappointed The only good thing about the food was the appetizer truffle fries we ordered. We ended up waiting over an hour for a main meals and we were one of the first tables seated for the night. All of our protein dishes: pork, branzino, and steaks clearly were sitting out for a while and cooked horribly - they were all cold!! Our friend who ordered the Steak spoke up as the steak was $65 asking for it to be warmed. They took it back to kitchen and it came back the same way!!! So he kindly asked to remove it from menu. The manager came over eventually and said there was nothing he could do, didn't offer him another plate... nothing. To top it all off - they tried to overcharge us! They tried to round up the 2 orders of pork chops to $80 when it should have been $76. Very rarely do I leave a restaurant thinking, "This is exactly why so many people prefer eating at home." Yesterday was one of those times. The experience left me seriously questioning why I'd bother going out to eat when I can save money and enjoy a much more pleasant, delicious meal at home.
