I am a fan of all things that showcase local in Baton Rouge. So, this event is right up my alley!…read moreThis year (hopefully it will stay at this location), it was set at the Burden Center. The sights were picturesque and plenty of room for the kiddos, who attended the event, to run around. Family-friendly... yes, this definitely was, and kids under 12 were free! It was calm, serene and the weather was plain perfect for this outdoor shindig. It was a garden party, indeed! Various restaurants were represented featuring chefs that knew Southern cuisine and where to properly source ingredients keeping it Louisiana grown and made. Craft cocktails made by area mixologists and bartenders, one being award winner John Morris from Sidebar/Bin 77 and desserts made by Les Amis Bake Shoppe. I have to say I was a tiny bit jealous of the kiddos, who got to roast hot dogs over the open flames; now that looked like a hoot! I enjoyed dishes creatively prepared by executive chefs and their sous chefs. Participating restaurants were: Magpie Cafe, Tallulah (inside the Renaissance) and Table Kitchen and Bar, just to name a few. Local grocery delivery company - IndiePlate - was also there to answer questions about Louisiana-sourced ingredients and to meet fellow guests. I am huge supporter in the Slow Food movement and I would love to see this event continue in the years to come. So, get out there and support your local chapter: http://slowfoodbr.org/. Tune-in for their various events, socials and educational seminars.

You can tell by the unique flavors that emanated from each item. All the chefs and volunteers were extremely nice and welcoming too. You can tell A LOT of planning, preparation, and hard work were put into this event. The location was gorgeous to take photos! The weather was rather warm but the lighting was on point. There were activities to keep the kids busy while the adults sipped on locally brewed beer and sample amazing cocktails too. Overall, I hope to have more time to attend Slow Food BR events in the future. We will definitely try to attend next year's Fall Heat event.

This is a great place to come for Sunday brunch or dinner. We started off getting their crawfish which was just okay. It could have been spicier and more seasoned. It came with potatoes as well which were pretty bland. My entree made up for the crawfish, however. I ordered the fried chicken with waffles and it was fantastic. The chicken was fried to perfection, hot, and crispy and I loved the buttery, sweet waffles. I tried a lot of their other foods and entrees ( a creamy fish dish-very good) from my other family members and I will have to come back to try more!

Willie's definitely delivered where it mattered most: the crawfish. I started with 3 pounds and…read morebefore I knew it, ordered 2 more. That alone should tell you how good they were. The crawfish were flavorful, seasoned well, and priced right, which is honestly the perfect combination when you're sitting down ready to eat. They had that messy, not really spicy, addictive quality that keeps you reaching for "just one more" until the tray is empty. I also tried the buffalo wings. They weren't that great, if I'm being honest, but I was hungry so they got the job done. The crawfish are clearly the star of the show here anyway. The atmosphere felt relaxed and unpretentious, exactly the kind of place you want for seafood with friends, cold drinks, and a table full of shells piling up by the minute. If you're wondering whether I'll be back, I already have.

We decided to split lots of appetizers since we knew a meal wouldn't do well sitting out in the car, and they honestly have such a great selection of appetizers that I never get past this them to the entrees. We started with the baked Brie and the Thai-ger shrimp. The baked Brie is a staple for me, and the pastry is so light that I could just go for this and eat a whole order by myself. It was our first time getting the shrimp but it definitely won't be the last! They were sweet with the right amount of spice. We followed it up with the crawfish and eggplant (my favorite!) and a crab cake. Hayden was our server and we cannot say enough good things about him. He engaged in conversation and remembered things we mentioned. He was pleasant and always was there before we could think about needing anything. I saw that they have a good number of appetizers and drinks available on the happy hour menu, so this may become a new happy hour spot.

I loved the ambiance for this restaurant! Business casual and upscale vibes but not too fancy. When we were waiting to enter our room, there were several water leaks in the roof that kept dropping on us. It was in several places in the host stand areas. I didn't like this because I kept having to move. When we got to the room, again, it was nice and big. We didn't have a prefixed menu, so we got to order whatever we would have liked from the regular menu. There was such a good variety of options! I got the Brussels sprouts and boudin dip to start. I highly recommend both of these as the portion sizes were huge! The Brussels sprouts were burnt and balsamic like, which is my absolute favorite. The boudin dip came with so many crackers and was delicious. For my meal, I got the chicken paillard. It was good but the portion was very small compared to the appetizers in my opinion. The chicken was very moist and flavorful. It filled me up because I had two appetizers, but I don't think it would be enough for me without having something to go with it.
