I came here for a business meeting at 7pm, and we had the whole back room to ourselves and even a projector! It was a pretty big room with tons of tables...great space for a meeting. I loved the ambiance for this restaurant! Business casual and upscale vibes but not too fancy. When we were waiting to enter our room, there were several water leaks in the roof that kept dropping on us. It was in several places in the host stand areas. I didn't like this because I kept having to move. When we got to the room, again, it was nice and big. We didn't have a prefixed menu, so we got to order whatever we would have liked from the regular menu. There was such a good variety of options! I got the Brussels sprouts and boudin dip to start. I highly recommend both of these as the portion sizes were huge! The Brussels sprouts were burnt and balsamic like, which is my absolute favorite. The boudin dip came with so many crackers and was delicious. For my meal, I got the chicken paillard. It was good but the portion was very small compared to the appetizers in my opinion. Rouj Creole has a very solid happy hour that I truly enjoyed. We tried the pepperjack boudin dip that was really good but it would've been even better if it was really hot. Visiting Baton Rouge and stumbled across this place on someone's Instagram. We went right at 1:00, but I didn't realize they were serving brunch at that time. I didn't want soup, salad, or a sandwich so my only other choice was breakfast food. I ordered the grits and grillades, my mom and cousin did the fish and grits, and my aunt did the shrimp poboy. The waiter said the poboy was huge, but we weren't expecting it to be how big it was. They were not stingy with the shrimp at all. My aunt thought the shrimp could've been crispier but that the poboy still had a good flavor. My mom and cousin enjoyed the fish and grits. They were jealous that my food came with a biscuit and theirs didn't lol. My food was good but it was kind of salty for my liking. Our waiters were nice and the food didn't take long to come out. About tonight.... Stopped in for a quick bite and wow... just wow... The house chardonnay was fabulous and I was in the mood for Eggplant so tried the Eggplant + Crawfish. Unbelievable! Hit every culinary note possible. How did I not discover this before?!? We decided to order off the "Lent Features" menu and split the Shrimp Arrabbiata Pasta. From the second it was set on the table a beautiful Smokey bbq smell hit us from a wonderful sauce. It was delicious!!! The only critique is that I wish it had come with a small piece of bread for soaking up the leftover marinara. Afterwards, we had an Apricot Old-Fashioned. I will tell you this... if you truly LOVE bourbon and Kaleb is bartending, you have got to try one. I have had these here for years but this one hit all the notes! I really enjoyed this place for the drinks and atmosphere! It was the perfect place for my twins and I's 27th birthday dinner! The lemon drop martinis we got in all the flavors- strawberry, blueberry, and mango plus the French 75s were amazing! The Cobb salad was also great! My only complaint was the crawfish cream sauce on my steak. The crawfish tails were very fresh, fishy/unseasoned like and really took from the overall enjoyment of the steak/cream sauce combo. The garlic mash potatoes were perfect coupled with the steak I just hated that the crawfish were so disappointing. The Thai shrimp app was also delicious. Honestly also think they're a bit overpriced for the portions and food quality but would come again for their happy hour. The drinks were 10/10. We started out with the Thai inspired fried shrimp that were perfectly golden fried with a sweet, tangy, and spicy sauce that was perfection (this was not extremely spicy by any means). Two of us ordered off of the brunch menu - both a grits dish - which were savory and delightful. The grits & grillades were extremely rich but the biscuit added a nice touch. If you're looking for a dish on the lighter side, highly recommend the sensation salad. Their sensation dressing is by far the best sensation in town. I could go there everyday just for the salad! Service was super quick, prompt, and the young lady waiting on us was super bright and cheery which made for a pleasant dining experience. We went around 2pm on a Sunday. Mom and I went out to dinner to Rouj at Perkins Rowe tonight. Good food, more than competently prepared. Mom wanted to try the hummous, which was tahini-heavy (which I prefer!) and the flatbread actually had a good Zaatar sprinkled on. Chefs seem to be fairly salt blind across the board these days. The previous three nights at comparable local spots were all marred by extreme saltiness, but it wasn't too salty at Rouj. The art and other decorations in the dining room were original and really thoughtful. I know that in the south, and especially at this time of year, football is a distraction. I dine out for the food, not watching people beat each other up. I'm not a fan of having multiple bright displays flashing inside of the dining room, but there's always French Laundry back home, I guess. The service was fantastic; I loved the server who put me at ease and patiently helped me figure out what I wanted to eat. White table cloth quality food and service in a less formal environment. I would have given 5 stars but the restaurant seating, tables and dining room is more diner or fast-food style in my opinion. However, even in this setting, the experience was outstanding. Some of the social media menus that are posted in apps like yelp, showed a few non-traditional meats (Elk, Bison, Ostrich, etc.) on the menu. We were told that those offerings are no longer available and were from a previous chef. Our Dining party tried 6 different Entrees and 4 different appetizers. The decor was very nice, and the open floor plan was refreshing. The service was mediocre. Our server took awhile to greet us and she did not check on us often. I got the chicken fried chicken with eggs and it comes with mashed potatoes and my bf got shrimp and grits. We also got mimosas to drink. The mimosas were good but the fact that they didn't offer a bottomless option was disappointing. My dish left a lot to be desired. The presentation was not appetizing and you couldn't see the chicken under the eggs. While the eggs and mashed potatoes were well seasoned the chicken was not and was bland. The flavor of the sauce was good with the shrimp the meatball was too much for me Brownie 10/10 It was good, I went back for lunch with some coworkers. Here is when it gets tricky. First off the service was impeccable. The waitress was amazing! She gave recommendations, let us try a sample of the gumbo because we were being indecisive. She was attentive and kept our waters full. Food wise: we tried the Thai-ger Shrimp, baked Brie, boudin dip, feta whipped Brussels, duck and andouille gumbo and garlic salmon. *this review is for happy hour only I love the vibe inside and out of this place. Located in a corner unit steps from Perkins Rowe, this place doesn't look like a former Applebees. It looks like a cool place to come grab a cocktail after work that's a little upscale but not pretentiously so. The waitstaff is always super friendly and knowledgeable about the menu and great with suggestions on food and wine and service is timed well with food coming out quickly and hot! Let's speak some truths now - Stephen Hightower knows how to do happy hour and Rouj Creole is no exception. ALL Socials are half off. They have $5 cocktails, $5 select wines, 1/2 off draft wine and I'm pretty sure most of the beer is half off. Monday - Friday 2-6pm. The wine selection is delightful, normally with a few red options, a white, and a sparkling. The real star though, is the food. Our go tos are the Baked Brie (ooey gooey with a little bit of sweetness served with a mound of their delicious crostini), the crab claws (because I'm a sucker for a delicious marinated crab claw and this is no exception), and the fried green tomatoes with the shrimp remoulade. I love the ambiance and decor of this place. I'm giving it a 3 because the food was underwhelming. Me and my GF went for brunch Sunday morning. We got there right at open so the service was nice and quick. We did have to wait a little long for her to start but once she started she was good. We both got what I think is staples of bunch in the south. She got chicken eggs snd waffles, I got BBQ shrimp and grits. I will say I liked hers more than mines. For the grits they use coarse blue grits which tends to be a little sweeter. The shrimp were a nice size but a little over cooked. I give the whole dish an overall 2.5. My Gf has the chicken fried chicken and eggs. I will say it was pretty good. I wish I would have gotten that. The only thing I would done is added a little more seasoning to the chicken.
