This was our first time trying this jem of a Yemeni restaurant and we were not disappointed! The food was absolutely incredible! I had the wrapped in foil lamb over rice and the lamb fell off the bone and there was an amazing fragrance and spice to both the meat and the rice. I love the inclusion of the golden raisins for a pop of sweetness. The ambiance is very casual, but it was amazing to see the Yemeni community and families here to enjoy the food. Our server was so kind and welcoming and recommend a few dishes to try. We definitely will need to come back to try more of this delicious food! read more

First let me say this is a 5 star 3 star review!!! I know that's confusing but read on and it will make sense. There is such a charm being at a busy business with hard working young families, working while their friends , family and children are all around. It's like being in at a family reunion. That was definitely the whole ambience at the Yemen Cafe and Bakery. It was especially fun for me having been fortunate enough to get to spend time in Yemen, and other Mediterranean countries that have that wonderful warm environment of cousins playing while their parents cook. Having said how much I loved the hustle and bustle and environment, I'll get to the food and staff. There were two waitresses who took care of us. One took our order. She was a truly sweet and thoughtful lady. She explained what was available from the chef to us and helped me with vegetarian choices. Our order was absolutely perfect and accurate. The other one who was truly Wonder Woman disguised as a waitress!! She was everywhere doing everything and all with a wonderful attitude. Cleaning the tables and restaurant as well as checking on all the needs of all the customers. She was definitely a 10 star staff member that any business would be fortunate to have working for them. I'm truly sorry I didn't get her name but she has long blond hair and is always going at 100 miles an hour. The food is definitely impossible if you are a vegan, so sadly there really isn't much that was available when we were there. Perhaps the bread but I'm not actually sure and there are several salads on the menu. If you are vegetarian, there are a few more options to pick from. But as with several items, they may be sold out. They do serve breakfast all day and there are some wonderful options that are typical of middle eastern breakfast food but slightly different according to the Yemeni tastes. I ordered the scrambled eggs with chopped onions and tomatoes , Shak Shookah , and it was truly delicious. Extra delicious if you eat it in the traditional way by using a piece of the amazing bread (that is traditionally eaten at meals and is the size of a huge platter) and scoop the eggs into a mouthful with it. I also ordered the baba ganoush to try too. Again every one does their baba ganoush their style. This was more tahini or hummus and not enough egg plant to be my favorite, but if you're a hummus lover then it will definitely be more in your wheel house. My daughter had the half a grilled chicken with saffron rice and that was a truly generous meal. She thought it was very good and had enough for another meal at an excellent price. We tried a dessert that was described as dates and bread with honey mixed in very small pieces with a creme of some type and black sesame seeds. It was actually a very interesting dessert. Not too sweet, and the edges that were sort of crispy were the yummiest. I would have personally been perfectly happy without the creme , just the rest of the dessert. Now if you like lamb.... this is definitely the place for you! That is clearly their specialty judging by all the take out customers and even diners who were eating the variety of lamb dishes they make. So the take away here is that this review could be five star if you are a lamb aficionado. Based only on what I ate , I really liked the eggs. If you're vegan, they haven't started to add specifically vegan items to the menu, but there are several salad items. But it's still absolutely charming regardless. The family atmosphere and the entertainment of the comings and going's are five stars. There's no question that It's well worth trying because everyone I spoke to who ate the lamb said it was amazing. And the chicken was a hit and definitely that fresh hot bread all chewy and delicious alone is worth a stop to grab some fresh and hot and try to get home with any left in the bag !! read more

Two words: get the chicken agdah, advertised as a Yemeni style stew cooked with large chunks of chicken, okra, carrots, potatoes, onions and green peas and served with delightful clay oven bread. I got this to go and I'm still delighting in the taste and singing its praises. This place recently opened in February of 2021 and they are still working out some kinks. When I came in, I wasn't greeted for a little while but I walked through to the main hall and eventually got a menu and my order in. Once the food came out, It was SO. GOOD that I just felt instantly blessed to have this Yemeni Cafe in Buffalo. It's pretty nice inside too and very spacious with lots of seating. I'd love to come back here and dine in again and go through more of their menu. read more

Went here because it was part of a Yelp event to Taste The World... food offering was was truly delicious! I ordered an additional menu item because of the sample and took it home to eat for another meal... I can't describe how sublime the flavors were... it was a lamb 'stew' -Fahsah It came in a very full metal takeout container with a flat bread that was bigger than my head! Really... warm and delicious (I reheated it in my air fryer) the flavor meld was so satisfying and comforting... well seasoned but not tooo hot (there's definitely some heat though) ... this will be my new comfort food! Please go to this restaurant and try a few items... I'll be returning to try more... The rice was beautifully seasoned and colorful. The hummus was light and smooth and flavorful, the grilled lamb was perfection... Omg this is fantastically delicious food. Seasoned so nicely. I've never enjoyed lamb. It always seemed smelly or game-y. Not this slow roasted lamb. You have to try the lamb haneeth dish served with rice # 7 on the menu. The rice was cooked perfectly. Smelled so good when we opened the dish to eat. You also must try their hummus appetizer with traditional bread. The hummus was so creamy in texture. We also tried the somewhat spicy saltah. Number 11 on the menu. It a different kind of taste. Maybe takes some getting used to. It's marinated root vegetables combined with fenugreek and lamb sauce. Served with baked bread. Or could be spooned over plain rice. Our server was sweet. We waited in the front area to take our meal home. Next time when we are not so rushed we will dine in. Please give these incredibly nice folks your business. You're in for a treat. read more

We came in today to dine in and had a very tasty lunch. We had too much food between the three of us to finish it all. :) I ordered the Fahsah which came with two GIANT pieces of warm clay oven bread, and ended up splitting it between two people who still couldn't finish it. The flavor was out of this world! The other 2 people I came with also got meals. Additionally, we split a hummus, and they gave us soup as an appetizer and a tea to try. First a note to anyone stopping by to check out this restaurant, if there is no one in the front room, don't leave! Walk to the rear dining room and wait. This and many restaurants are experiencing staffing shortages, so be patient. It's worth it. We ordered takeout and once we were greeted we got our food and paid really quickly. You can smell the delicious aromas as soon as you got out of the car and the food tastes as good as it smells! It is a stand alone building right on Broadway and the signage makes it easy to find. They have two large dining rooms with ample seating, we opted for take out as we needed to get back home. We also ordered a full size of the Lamb Haneeth and the portion was huge, easily enough for two. Their lamb is phenomenal, it was so tender and tasty and the rice was also really flavorful. If you've ever been on the fence about trying lamb, this is the place to do it, it will make you an instant fan. I'm not one to eat rice on it's own, but their rice is good enough to polish off what's left. I do wish I had read other Yelpers reviews and tried the Chicken Agdah. Got the shish kebab with rice. It was very good and seasoned well. The meat was on top of red onion and there were fresh herbs sprinkled over it. The rice was long grain, possibly basmati, and was also good. My wife got the fahsah which included 2 huge pieces of bread to dip into the mixture. I only tried a bit but the bread was good as was the mixture. I'm not sure what was in it. It came out in a very hot bowl. read more

Went for a Yelp event and decided to stick around for lunch. The atmosphere made me feel like I stepped back into Morocco for a bit with the wall decor and arabic music that was playing. A friend and I both ordered the same thing and were not disappointed with what we had. It was the Chicken Agdah ($12.99) which was a stewed chicken dish with a variety of veggies in it. It was delicious and you could choose it with rice or clay oven bread. We both opted for the bread since we tried the rice with a Lamb dish we had as an appetizer. Everything we had tasted great and was made hot and fresh (including the prepping and the veggies according to the staff). This did make the wait a bit longer than we expected considering we were 1 or 5 customers inside, but it just left us time to enjoy the music and each other's company. I was really excited about this stop on the tour. I got there and because I read other reviews , I knew enough to walk through the front & go to the back where all the other tables were. It was a nice , clean & comfortable atmosphere. The employee was very friendly & seemed like a happy guy. We sat down & I let him him know I was with Yelp. I also bought 2 containers of Baklava. My son ordered the Lamb Agdah. I got home & opened the bag. My whole center of my bread was hard, thin & crunchy. Only the outside was soft & yummy. My Agdah looked & smelled amazing!! Buuuuut, then I started eating it & was SO disappointed. =( There were so many bones in it, big & tiny. I spent the whole time worrying if I was going to break a tooth or choke in a bone. I was not relaxed while eating at all. I was stressing out & getting mad at almost every bite. There wasn't too much flavor either , which I was completely shocked by, because it smelled so hood. I was only able to somewhat enjoy a few bites, which was sad. I really thought I was going to love this . Then, I tried the baklava. I can't complain about that, because I enjoyed it. Happiness is finding familiar taste in an unfamiliar dish from an unfamiliar cuisine. While there is a huge similarity between Middle Eastern cuisine and Indian cuisine, meat agdah reminded us of a meaty version of quintessential Bengali homemade dish called tarkari that is not usually served in an Indian restaurant. The added vegetables mellowed down the fat and the spice giving it a perfect balance of taste and texture. The vegetable curries that you get in usual Indian restaurants are extremely spicy as compared to the agdah The naan was freshly prepared. I am interested to try out other items from the menu in future. For now, meat agdah deserves full 5 star. I wish the naans were a little softer. read more

The first item was a flavorful soup that you drink from the bowl. The next item that came out were two, bigger than your head pieces of freshly baked clay oven bread. The bubbles in the bread were fought over at our table. Next came a mix of chicken and veggies that were perfectly seasoned and moist along with a side of rice. You may ask how did we eat all this deliciousness without utensils? The delicious, fresh baked bread is the vehicle to get all the other yumminess into your mouth! Just tear a piece off and use it to pick up the chicken, veggies and rice! So, so good! This should be on your "Gotta Check This Place Out" list. Where have you been all my life?!??? Amazing food from the drinking soup to the last bite (which will probably be 3 days later because of the portion size!). Had the special - can't tell you what we had but it was truly delicious. I'll come back until I've eaten both sides of the menu! Warning in advance, and the only reason for dropping stars, the availability of their menu items can very greatly - each time I asked for an item, the server went back to the kitchen, just for another person to come out and say it wasn't available. This happened probably three times, before one of the kitchen staff just suggested for me focus on one small section of the menu to choose from. It seemed that there was one primary chef, and if you go later in the evening the chef may not be in, limiting the number of items available. That being said, the food WAS delicious! I ended up getting the Lamb Kabsa, while my girlfriend got the chicken agadah. The meat was very tender and flavorful, the rice was cooked to perfection, and the free soup they brought us before the meal was full of flavor with a slight kick. I went into the restaurant to have coffee and dessert. The yemen coffee was delicious; it came out presweetened. The baklava was made with walnuts but was not fresh. The menu is extensive. I have had the honor of eating at this great place 3 times. The food is interesting and the service is great. First of all the free soup is the best. Who gives free soup? It isn't even mentioned on the menu. It is a broth that is chock full of flavor. If you like Lamb this is a great place. The Lamb Fatash is a clay hot pot dish. Just break off the bread and did it in. The Chicken Stew Agdah is a go to for people who are just approaching Yemeni food. It is hearty. There was a dish that was a beef with raisins and spice. The best thing about living in Buffalo is getting to try all the new resturants .It is my husband's 60th Birthday, so we are trying a new Yemeni restaurant, Yemen Cafe & Bakery. I cannot say enough about how fabulous this resturant is. Don't be put off by the storefront there is a huge backroom for dine in. We started off with hummus and falafel, Homemade and tastey. We then ordered the Yemen Cafe Platter for 2. It included a hot and spicey soup call Marak. It isn't on the menu but the chef whipped it up for the platter. The Lamb Hanneeth is wonderfully spiced and goes great with the rice. Another lamb dish is quite unique. It is called Fahsah which is a lamb and root vegetable dip cooked and served in a clay pot. The food was delicious. Restaurant was dirty. I ordered take out. They first were missing part of my order. The grub hun menu said you get hummus and baba ghanoosh with two of my dinners but they said the website was wrong so I had to pay for it separately. I ordered ginger beer that was on the menu but I got ginger ale instead. The lamb chops were very small. The pita bread was hard and chewy. Did not seem fresh at all.
