Second time here. The interior is 3 steps below plain and not very welcoming. You place your order at the counter and they bring your order to your table. The food is really tasty especially their garlic sauce which you can purchase. The portions are large and made to order. Our orders came out quickly which they should since we were the only patrons. We ordered food from Venus again through Uber Eats. I ordered everything without onions and sauces on the side. They followed my request exactly and the food was excellent. The shawarma bowls were fresh with chicken, rice, pickles, and garlic sauce. I ordered 2 sides of feta cheese to add to it as well. The fatoosh salad was just okay. I'm used to them having herbs in them that make the dish more unique, but this one was more like a Greek salad with fried pita chips in it. Great place to go for a quick meal. They used to make the perfect Souvlaki, but now instead of a nice piece of grilled chicken you get this mushy, cut up orange stuff (supposedly chicken) that was none too appetizing (it went in the trash) I will say they give you large portions, have nice service, and a great garlic sauce, but that is not enough for me to return read more

I find it hard to believe that Mediterranean restaurants like this still exist in a city with a thousand better options (even much better Greek options). Then I remembered it's right next to UB, and average food is the norm nationwide near campuses. First, this is NOT shawarma. Second, the Muslim employees verbally confirmed it's not halal (but I figured that out with all the Egyptian and Orthodox iconography). Third, the food is not fresh. My stomach knows this because when I eat processed or overly fried food, I often develop "the burps." That shouldn't happen with good, clean Greek/Turkish/Arab food. Save your money. Venus is certainly a funky college student hangout but it's proximity to the movie theater makes it a convenient place to grab a bite before a show. The service was super friendly despite the fact I did not pre-order online; I stopped in on a whim. I had a chicken shawarma which was well made - nicely grilled in the flatbread and well spiced. If I had more time before I would have studied the menu a bit more to choose some salad or accompaniment to my sandwich. Venus Mediterranean is a terrific place for casual inexpensive and delicious dining. The addiction to their garlic sauce is real, people! I recently took some friends for their first taste of shawarma and other treats and they are certainly hooked too now. My favorite thing is Chicken Shawarma. I enjoy it both in the pita and on rice. The rice really soaks up the sauce and as you can tell I'm all about that. My DH recently had an amazing falafel dinner there that he raved about too. The owner was very generous and kind and brought us out some dips to try and helped set up tables for our group. Delicious! Greek fries are a must at the Erie county Fair and other food truck venues. Very friendly people who serve up some of the best Schwarma in Buffalo, I always enjoy some Grilled Meat (Lamb) rolled up like a Burrito with Lettuce, Cheese and Garlic Sauce. As soon as you take a bite of this Wrap you'll definitely be wanting more, what's even better is order a plate of Greek Fries. Plank shaped Fries smothered in their Signature Garlic Sauce with Feta Cheese and Diced Onions. One of the days I went there I even took the time to get one for my Father who munched it down with ease (he came from Work and didn't even have Lunch). What better way wash this down than with a refreshing Bottle on Mango Juice, when drinking this beverage its thick and fruity like a Mango Lassi. I've had Venus at the Fair 5 to 7 Times and if I wanted to I'd be orbiting around the Eatery just like the Planet. A few years ago, after my Dental appointment at UB, I walked over to their original Location in a Plaza on Main Street right next door to Tops. I sat down in one of their hard wood Booths and waited for them to bring my Order. Beef Schwarma (probably one of the Biggest I've ever eaten) along with a side of Baba Ghanoush (Hummus made out Roasted Eggplant). It was Nutty and Smoky with some Pita Slices for you to take and dip, also a few Kalamata Olives too to snack on. I must say the Food here is really good, Foodies, College Students, Families and even the Elderly should stop in here for a bite to Eat. Isn't it a violation of Phase 1 #COVID19 mandates for food service employees to be preparing food and walking around without a mask? If so, folks at VENUS (3500 Main Street, Buffalo, 14226) seemed to have missed the memo. We went to pick up the food we'd ordered via GRUB HUB. After my guy called them out on it, the guy got UNJUSTIFIABLY indignant. Instead of apologizing, he complained about how many hours a day he's in there, wearing the mask, said he wears it while cooking [**we watched him cooking without it for TWO MINUTES**] & asked if we just wanted to cancel the order. The best part of it was when he quickly came up with #socialdistancing guidelines. First, he said he couldn't have people behind the counter. Neither of us were. My guy was leaning up against the sign that said "Do not pass," but was still able to see him from that vantage point. Then he said we couldn't wait for the food in the store and had to wait for the notification from GRUB HUB saying the food was ready. We left, and watched from the window as he lowered his mask and returned to cooking. When my guy went back in to pick up the order, the guy said "Your order comes with a drink. Take the drink & never come back." I don't think he'll have to worry about that. It's a pity too. I loved their chicken fingers. When I posted this review on Facebook, the guy replied to it, accusing me of trying to exploit the fact that we had to wait a minute or two for our food to get free/discounted food. The wait wasn't the problem. Life is too short to be in a rush. What we SAW during those two minutes was the problem. In any case, they say that now we're going to be banned from ordering from them via Grub Hub, and we won't be allowed to enter the restaurant. I think we'll manage. read more

Highly recommend this place! Fantastic food! The Greek salad is *chefs kiss*, especially when paired with their garlic sauce, which is a must have for garlic girls like me . My fiance loves their rice. He usually gets the chicken shawarma platter which says a lot since he's usually a beef guy! The servings are huge so keep that in mind when looking at the prices - very worth it (especially in this economy). Sorry to say that of all the Mediterranean places I've tried in the Buffalo area so far, this is my least favorite, even though it's conveniently located near where I work. (House of Hummus is #1 in my book). Maybe the meats are amazing, but for vegetarians, this place is underwhelming. Your main veggie option is falafel: you just get to decide whether you want it in a wrap, over rice, with hummus, or with fries. (Online pictures of the menu have other veggie options like koshary, but the actual menu board at Venus doesn't seem to have them.) I got the falafel with rice, and for 9 dollars, I was expecting more. The falafel pieces were halved, as if they were trying to make it look like there was more falafel than there actually was. With the platter option at other eateries, you get a little salad and pita, but the falafel with rice was just, well, falafel, rice, some pickle pieces, and white sauce. Everything in the dish was just meh. Nothing in particular was off, but nothing was really good either. The 6-piece chicken fingers and fries is a big order. I can't judge the fingers since I didn't taste them, but I did eat a decent amount of my husband's fries, and they were good for thick-cut fries. I don't have a problem with food being made to order, but if it's going to take a while (20 minutes +), I expect it to taste better. It seemed like a lot of people placed orders, stepped out to do other errands in the plaza, and then came back for their food, which is probably the way to go if you're trying to be efficient with your time on your lunch break. read more

This gem of a place serving some lip smacking Mediterranean food is located right across UB dorms. The interiors totally make you feel you're at a restaurant in a Middle Eastern country. They play Arab music too which sounds fun. The servers are really nice and they explain every dish to you if you're new to the cuisine. Here's all our favorite dishes that you must try: Chicken Shawarma Pita Wrap- Marinated chicken grilled cut into fine pieces and rolled into a pita with veggies and their special white sauce. Tastes amazing and you can have it on the go too. Chicken Shawarma Platter- This is our all time favorite! Finely chopped grilled chicken spread on a bed of rice and smothered with their white sauce! The white sauce is garlicky and goes perfectly with the dish. They also give their hot sauce on the side which is SUPER HOT! Venus also rhymes with p****, so you'd think it would be absolutely amazing and magical and leave you completely satisfied. Not for me. 3 stars because it's family owned, dirt cheap, and pleases my friend Barbara. But the Gyro that is advertised as being the real deal, is (a) fake strips of pre-cut frozen hamburger meat, similar to the fake crap served by Thom's on Sheridan, and most of the Gyro places that people rave about in town, and (b) they're often out of it anyway. It was only on my *fifth* trip here that I finally got to try it and be disappointed. Food in general had a low standard, for me. Nowhere near that of Shish Kabob Express on Hertel or Rachel's in Williamsville and so on. Service is iffy, some of them are friendly, some of them are pushy, some of them don't understand customer service. It's definitely a place for college kids, because college kids tend to be less discerning (at least I was, and my friends were, when I was in college... and besides, I read reviews of college places, and yes...), but in any case... I wouldn't go back. They're not my Venus, they're not my fire, and they're not my desire. read more

I don't know why it took me and my co workers this long to find the place for lunch. We all almost exclusively get the chicken Salaki wrap for lunch. The chicken is cooked to perfection and the sauce is creamy and filling. We usually get an order of fries to spilt between 2-4 of us with the wraps and it's a perfect serving for lunch. The reason I'm not giving it 3 stairs is if you get a drink and fries it's $15 and even though you're getting more food it's a lot just for a lunch. To say that I have a recent addiction to the chicken shawarma is an understatement. I've had it three times in three weeks and it's been phenomenal every time. Plenty enough for leftovers that make a full second meal, Venus has been moved to my frequent playlist for take out. I used Grubhub at work this last time when my office team player it out together and it went off without a hitch there were no issues. The order was delivered to my house and the restaurant left out the hummus, even though we were charged for it. UberEats did refund us for the hummus, but we were still very disappointed. We opened the boxes and the chicken looked like they used ground chicken instead of chicken breast and the rice was extremely dry. The whole meal was very disappointing with little to no flavor and the tiny pieces of chicken. The food was so bland and dry, that my toddler wouldn't even eat it and that's saying a lot. I love Venus and have been eating their food for years. One summer my friend and I were obsessed with it. We took it to the beach, the pool, on car rides. It was our go to. Their garlic white sauce is amazing. My favorites are their Greek fries and gyro platter which you can get over fries or rice. I always chose over fries. It comes with either double meat or a side salad. The platter is very well proportioned with tender meat, tomatoes, onion and garlic sauce. Will never order from here again! Walked in and the cook and counter person was not wearing a mask! I asked why and they claimed they were both just washing dishes. I watched them for 2 minutes making food! When I had asked them to put the mask back on they told me to cancel my order. I declined, I was then told I was breaking the rules by standing in the restaurant, that I was to early, and to leave and come back when I'm told the food is ready.
