Very good food, authentic very amazing portion sizes and nothing that I've gotten has ever tasted off in anyway. The vibe on the inside is pretty chill. The weight staff is pretty nice. Sometimes you might have to wait quite a long for your food to be ready but it's always worth it.. Was in the area and heard great things about Yemen cafe. There was street parking available close to the restaurant. The restaurant is quite large with diner booths and tables, but was mostly empty on a Friday around lunchtime. A few people came in for takeout. The employees were very attentive and helpful, asking if it was my first time here - recommended me a few dishes and offered free hot tea while I waited for food. I decided to go with the lamb haneeth and the knafeh for my friend and I to share (we weren't super hungry). Everything was wonderful - the soup was very comforting and savory, the lamb was tender, the rice was pillowy, the tea was nicely spiced and sweet, and the knafeh was crunchy, sweet, salty, and chewy! read more

Some friends told me about this spot and made a quick trip to see what it was about. It was a casual and laid-back atmosphere. You can place take out or dine-in. The food was delicious food. We ordered the honey bread which was mouthwatering. I wanted the whole thing to myself. It was the perfect amount of sweetness. Having never had Yemeni food, I was intrigued at the possibility of trying it while visiting Detroit. Dining at the Yemen Cafe opened the door to a new flavor filled world of aromatic spices. First time ever trying Yemen food and omg, it was DELICIOUS! We got the Yemen Cafe Platter for 2 and everything from the rice, the lamb haneeth, chicken, hummus, all of it was a 10/10. My favorite was the Lamb Stew!! I'll be dreaming about it for weeks to come. There was so much food we left with multiple takeout boxes and it could easily feed 3-4 people honestly. Everytime I come here to eat, I leave so happy and full of yummy food. The restaurant is able to accommodate larger groups when you are at a late night meal. I've been in during the day for lunch before the pandemic and had not problem with a group of 6. Most recently, I've come in with 7 or 9 others and been treated exceptionally. They are able to accommodate separate checks when handling large groups. The garlic sauce and Yemeni bread is amazing. I'm actually quite happy that I love far away (like 30 minutes) because all the food is awesome. The waiters that have helped us have been able to provide suggestions on what to order. And they have been able to explain the menu options very helpfully in order to make our selections easy. I will definitely be back the next time in the area. read more

We went to Yemen Café the other day with a few friends. The service was a little slow, but they were clearly training a young gentleman who was very kind and learning the ropes. The salad and dressing are always on point. We ordered one of the bean dishes and it was incredible, especially with the garlic paste and jalapeños. The bread with honey is always a great choice, and I absolutely love their tea. My friend ordered the shish kebab and really enjoyed it. The hummus was good, just different from what we're used to. I can't believe the amount of food you get, definitely get your money's worth here. lots of fat to pick through on the lamb, but that is what gives it all it's flavor and makes it fall off the bone. The service was very slow, but our server was nice and accommodating. The tables and floors were sticky, which is a pet peeve of mine, and I dislike their napkins, and napkin dispensers, at the table very much. This was my first opportunity to try Yemeni food. We were able to go right in and seat ourselves. We were greeted by the server who brought us menus. My guy frequents the restaurant so he asked permission to order for the both of us. He ordered Chicken Gallaba with Rice which was served with Yemen Bread and their house salad. He then walked to the rear of the restaurant and brought us each back a cup of hot sweet tea. The portions are huge so we were able to share the one entree with no problem. I particularly enjoyed the bread and the salad despite there being a lot of onion in it. Everything was fresh and flavorful. We were really happy with the chicken and rice. It had great flavor and not dry for being grilled. This little spot is great for post anything especially after the Schvitz. They are open till 1am. Authentic as it gets for Yemenese food . This is one of those local spots that you won't find in many city outside of Detroit. You'll never find the servers writing any of the orders down. They somehow always manage to remember everyone's order from memory alone without making any mistakes. I came at midnight with a group of 8 friends one time and our server was a kid no older than 14 who someone managed to remember all of our orders, with unquie additions and substitutions. That in itself is extremely impressive. I've always gotten the Fahsah with some bread to dip it with and it's never disappointed. Be warned, it comes out EXTREMELY hot, so you will have to be careful first the first few bites. After it cools down it is such a treat! Dipping it with the warm bread and sipping on some hot tea really gives an authentic experience. One note, the food doesn't do well when it's cold so you do have to eat it before it gets cold! I visited Yemen Cafe for the second time last night. The first time had it at the top of my restaurant list for return trips when I'm in the Detroit area. My party ordered so many delicious vegetarian options. Everything was outstanding and delicious. Our server made sure we had everything that we needed. I feel like we ordered half the menu and he remembered it all without even writing it down. This is not a fancy place, more of a cafeteria feel, though there are some table rooms in the back, with curtains. The food is outstanding and comes quickly. The bread is divine. If you want anything to drink other than the house tea, which is complementary and self-serve, it is in a can or a bottle. Several soda options and bottled water. A friend recommended Yemen Cafe, so I dropped by on a Saturday afternoon. The customer service was superb! Our waiter checked up on us several times, and he served us complimentary honey tea and condiments. I tried the Tabbouli Salad and Grape Leaves. The Salad was delicious, but it included way too many onion slices. The Grape Leaves were too mushy for my taste, unfortunately. They easily broke when pierced with a fork. Amazing food and you get so much for what you order. I've been getting a tray of chicken and rice and making it into meals for work and home - delicious, lasts the whole week, and I don't have to cook as often. The shish tawook is my favorite of the chicken options but they're all good. Their garlic is one of my favorites in the area. I'm very picky about garlic sauce so I am always pleasantly surprised. Hands down, some of the best middle eastern food I've ever had. The vibe is pretty casual and you get your own complementary tea which is amazing. I couldn't enough! The service was also good, the server would check on us and got us everything we needed. Although, we weren't provided knives which was a little difficult to cut into the steak but other than that everything was awesome. You have to get the Fahsah (we got it with lamb) and it was packed with flavor. We also got the Foul which is on the breakfast but also very good for dipping with bread. We got two orders of the Rashoosh. The bread was also very fresh and a little more denser than the pita bread but we all really liked it. Also ordered a shish combo which also came with salad. I love their shwarma here. They never run out of free tea. Yet your experience there may depend on who is cooling that day. Most of the time Ive been there Ive liked it. There has been one occasion where all the meat was dry. This isn't my favorite place as far as flavor goes but it is nice to get large family size portions for the price you are paying. You will get fed well. Service also depends on who is working that day. A lot of times you have to go and tell them what you need from the servers rather than them finding you. The stew was hot and very savory, really good with the homemade and fresh bread ($1.50) . The garlic sauce was also really tasty paired with everything seen! He had to box up 1/3 of what's seen bc both of us couldn't finish, but believe me it was still really good the next morning. There was also self serve free hot tea that was lightly sweetened and fragrant. Would recommend bring cash next time or using it to pay to save a buck or so and avoid the electronic fee on the bill. Yemen cafe in Hamtramck is amazing- definitely a must visit if you're in the area!! Firstly, service here is afast and waiters are always very friendly. You can get free, delicious yemeni tea while you wait for your food to come out (beware- it is fresh and hot!) If tea isn't your style and you're looking for something more cold, I'd highly recommend the mango juice. (For anyone not familiar, expect "juice" in this context to mean more like a smoothie!) Now onto food- my favorite thing to get here is fahseh by far. In these photos I got fahseh with lamb- this is a yemeni stew with really tender lamb cooked and served traditionally in this bowl as pictured. That being said, out of the numerous times I've been here I've seriously not had anything bad. If you're really not a fan of arab food, although I'd recommend you give it a try again- there are a few american options as well although I can't say I've tried them. The atmosphere of this restaurant is definitely family friendly, lots of space and also more private booths in the back near the kitchen if you'd prefer. There is a small parking lot but also free street parking available in all nearby streets. This restaurant is also located next to a cute and updated park- perfect location for having outdoor time before or after meal. Overall, I'd HIGHLY recommend coming here! We were not offered drinks and our appetizers arrived with out flat ware or plates. It wasn't super busy but they were obviously understaffed. Can we devote an entire paragraph to the bathroom? Wow... I'm shocked they are allowed to serve food in a place where the bathroom is so repulsive. You could smell (and see) urine everywhere.
