In town for work. Common recommendation is the solid Middle Eastern food scene. Saw this place on Yelp and decided to give it a try. There's a parking garage in the rear and plenty of spots. I did enter through the rear of the establishment since I parked there. The menu is pretty extensive. Ended up getting the half order of hummus. A basket of warm pita and two sauces came out. I initially thought that was the pita. This was complimentary I believe. The garlic sauce is solid. The other one is a spicy sauce of some sort. This spicy one was super good. The hummus came out. Very smooth and flavorful. For my entree, I got the Shish Kafta. You can choose between lamb or chicken. I went with the chicken with a side of rice and my choice of soup or salad. I opted for the lentil soup. That came out piping hot. This was delicious. Flavorful and good texture. My entree came out and wow. The portion is way more than what you pay for. Came with 4 very huge blocks of chicken kefta. Nicely seasoned and grilled to perfection. Had a nice char on the outside, but still juicy on the inside. I used the two sauces from earlier to give it an extra kick. I washed it all down with a mint lemonade. This was absolutely refreshing. Drove in from Chicago to try this place. 8.8/10 Lemon chicken rice soup was so creamy and perfectly offset the cold outside 10/10 The fattoush salad was well balanced vinaigrette with the right fresh level of sumac. Just wish there was more chips for a better crunch factor. 9.5/10 Buttery soft lamb chops. Perfectly seasoned 10/10 Chicken Sajii had rave reviews and came highly recommended to my friend and I. Delicious Lebanese cuisine. The portion sizes are huge to share with friends and service is excellent. My favorite was the complimentary house made bread with garlic sauce. So good. I wanted to bring more of their spicy garlic sauce home. We were accidentally given a dish we didn't order and were allowed to keep it. That was also a surprising favorite of mine. I have no idea what it was but the next time I eat here I will show my photo to order it. I like the Middle Eastern decor with large tables and booths that are good for groups. This is my top choice for middle eastern food. The hummus is creamy and buttery and pairs so well with the warm bread and garlic sauce. I especially like shish tawook (chicken kabob), shish kabob, and chicken sajji (thin sliced spicy chicken). Both entrees come with a choice of soup or salad, and either rice or fries. I recommend the chicken vegetable soup or fattoush salad, and the fries and rice are equally delicious. Service this time was slow, but the dining room was packed as it was a Saturday night. The interior appears upscale but I can tell you that it is very family friendly. Make sure and take a walk downtown once you've finished your meal as Downtown Dearborn has lots to see and do read more

Spectacular! It was our last meal during our visit to Michigan, and quite a way to round it off. Dearborn obviously has no shortage of Mediterranean restaurants and I'm so glad this was on our list. We got the combo platter for 2 on the server's recommendation and it lived up to the hype - and absolutely enormous Middle East-style platter of varied and delicious meats/kabobs with salad and rice that the two of us could absolutely not finish (despite valiant attempts). We ordered a small hummus and we were happy we did. But be careful to not overeat on the pita Because the entrees are plentiful but more importantly--DELICIOUS! Side note: if you like lemonade, highly recommended trying their Lemonade Mint, it was great! Each entree comes with a chose of rice or fries and a soup or salad. From some many choices, I went with traditional shawarma (combo beef and chicken), rice, and the chicken lemon rice soup It was great! The server was beyond helpful, had a friend that had never had middle eastern food so she walked him through the choices by asking him what type of food he generally likes from other regions he was familiar with. We had such a lovely dinner here. We landed in Dearborn and knew we wanted to start off the trip with a fabulous Middle Eastern meal. The reviews let us to this restaurant and they did not disappoint. Our order included a smoothie, fresh juice, chicken gallayah with almonds, amazing seasoning and chicken, baba ganoush and pita. The chicken gallayah was SO flavorful- it reminded me of paella in its appearance only if argue that it was much more flavorful. I appreciate that they had an open concept kitchen so you could see the team making pita bread as well as a pretty mural on your way to the bathrooms. They also have an expensive outdoor seating area that didn't seem to be used during our visit but looked ideal for the warmer months. The neighborhood itself is worth a visit with Yemeni coffee, Turkish sweet shop and several of their vibrant and tasty businesses. They all were bustling during our Thursday night visit. You could easily make a whole food crawl out of your evening with all that's available within a block or two. Parking was conveniently available across the street in a large free lot and there is also street parking available. read more

This review has been along time coming First off Malek is my go to local Mediterranean food restaurant and I have been going there for years. For my vegan friends they have options, and one is their hummus which I love! I also will usually get a fatoosh salad, and falafel sandwich (I do like their falafel because it's no too dry at all). Also, I have always had pretty good service all around whether I dined in or carried out. The few times that there was an issue with take out order the manager was very friendly and more than made up for my inconvenience. If you choose to dine in the restaurant is clean and has a good ambiance. I though prefer to usually eat on the patio which is large enough to accommodate a lot of people and nicely decorated with plants or carry out since I live close. Now, you might ask yourself why didn't he rate this five stars? Well being a long time customer I can remember how much bigger the portions were. For example their large hummus is now the size of what their small was (I understand that everything cost more now but don't downsize the portions and also raise the price). So now with the higher price and smaller portions I have to knock a star off. With that said though I still do love that hummus! read more

When in Dearborn you will find your pick of Middle Eastern restaurants, since they have one of the largest Arabic populations in the world. Malek Al kabob was our choice for today and it was awesome. This restaurant was super clean and decorated for Ramadan. We noticed the stone oven as we walked in and could see the fresh bread baking. Our waitress greeted us quickly and took our order right away. We ordered one order of chicken kabobs and one order of beef kabobs, an order of hummus and a fresh Mango Lassi for our daughter. Both meals came with soup. We got one vegetable beef and one chicken lemon rice soup. To start, we watched them make the mango lassi from scratch and it was the best we've had. The fresh bread with toom and hummus was awesome and fresh. The kabobs were both perfectly cooked and really big portions. We left happy, full and with a giant bag of left overs. Malek Al Kabob is our go-to spot for Lebanese food. There are multiple locations throughout the Detroit area, but Dearborn has the ambiance along with the perfect location. The food and service is absolutely amazing, from the bread at the beginning to any of the amazing desserts available. I always choose a vegetarian platter; hummus, baba ganouj, tabbouleh, falafel. He opts for the meat platter; kafta, kabobs, etc. All of it is amazing, and the portion sizes are over the top- always leave with a doggie bag! You must try Malek Al Kabob. It IS the best! read more

We walked in the back from the patio which looked clean and like it would be enjoyable if the weather wasn't so hot. Upon entering we were greeted warmly and shown to a table. Once we sat down we were brought a basket of delicious pita bread and two dips - garlic and spicy garlic. Both were delicious with the warm pita. The menu was extensive with authentic Lebanon dishes. So many things sounded delicious. The chicken kabob with a side of rice was delicious. My tablemates enjoyed a lamb burger, schwarma and also shish kabob. Everything was seasoned perfectly. There were only 2 of us in our party, but the set up is great for large 15+ groups or intimate tables. The fresh warm bread with hummus was crazy good. We also ordered kabobs, one with salad and one with the lentil soup. Everything was cooked to perfection and the portions were huge. My eyes were bigger than my stomach and we left with a bag of leftovers. The service was great and there's a parking lot around the block behind the building. Second middle eastern restaurant I've tried in the area. It was better than the first I tried since some of the proteins were slightly less overcooked. It wasn't too salty and pretty balanced. The rice was well cooked and I really enjoyed the pita and garlic dip as always. Service was prompt even when it was pretty busy which was much appreciated. We ordered the combo for 4 and it is enough for over that number. The flat chicken breast was more moist compared to the kebab. The spices are all pretty subtle and in general this makes for great leftovers. Surprisingly, I really enjoyed their salad. I went back for seconds and thirds during the meal. The hummus is super smooth as well. I like this location since it's near a lot of places to go to for dessert if you'd like. I would come back. read more

I have heard great things about Malek Al-Kabob and have been wanting to try it out. There are so many amazing Lebanese and Middle Eastern restaurants in Dearborn. This is one of the better ones for sure. A friend and I met for lunch to catch up. Upon being seated we got a hot basket of small pita and 2 dipping sauces (toum/garlic sauce and a spicier you I believe). Delicious and comforting! Our waitress was terrific about answering our questions (about ingredients and dietary restriction issues) without hesitation. My friend and I ordered then sat and caught up for like 4 hours. We felt a bit bad about taking up a table so long, but no one was upset with us or anything thankfully. We ordered kabob sandwiches. I saw on the menu a 14.95 combo at the bottom for a sandwich, a side (fries or rice), and a drink. I got a Hummus with Shish Kabob sandwich and rice plus an iced tea. My friend got one of chicken kabob versions and eventually a lentil soup. Everything tasted great! The lamb was tender and flavorful. I really enjoyed it! It was all more than enough for a filling lunch. Thankfully we live nearby and we will come back to try more items (pistachio cake I'm looking at you!). Our absolute favorites are the warm pita bread, creamy hummus, flavorful grape leaves, refreshing mint lemonade, the rice almond gallayah with lamb, and the pickled cucumbers--everything is packed with flavor. A friend was in town this week and I wanted her to experience the wonderful Middle Eastern cuisine I enjoy regularly. I was nervous about selecting this restaurant; my only other experience here was a poor one. However, I wanted to give it another chance since it has received so many positive reviews. We met up on a beautiful Monday evening. I was surprised by all the pedestrians in Dearborn - on a weeknight, no less. The weather played a part but I also wondered whether it was the norm for the area - the beauty of a walkable neighborhood. I miss this from my childhood. The restaurant itself wasn't filled and we could nab a large booth by the window. I took a moment to peruse the menu but I typically have a go-to meal at Middle Eastern restaurants (shish tawook or shish kebab). I went with the latter and my friend went with the former; we decided to share to enjoy both. The meal began with a favorite, warm and fluffy pita bread served with two sauces. I downed several pieces of bread, as did my friend. Yum. I ordered the shish kebab, medium rare, which came with rice or fries, and soup or salad. The beef cubes were grilled perfectly; they were tender and flavorful. Almond slivers and pickled radish were mixed into the rice - so good. The salad was crisp and fresh. My friend's shish tawook was equally delish. We feasted. The things that bothered me from my previous meal were no longer problematic during this visit. One last thing, our server was fantastic. I've had a lot of food in Dearborn and this is some of the best. First off, the service is amazing. Very fast, very friendly, and made great recommendations. It can be intimidating if you don't know middles eastern flavors and they were patient with the people in our party who were new. The bread is amazing. Especially when it comes out hot! I got the malek stirfry with beef and it was perfect. Great citrus lemon flavors, spicy with a nice buttery texture over perfectly cooked rice, mushrooms and steak. There were 5 in our party, all with a drink, and an entree, and a few little extras and our total was about $150. Not bad at all for this quality. Only negative note is parking. It's very rough. The waitress came over and given bread and their garlic sauces. We didn't receive plates or even napkins at this point if we needed a napkin. It would've also been nice to have had a plate to put our bread on as we were eating it. The garlic sauces were delicious. When she came to get our order, we weren't quite ready to order so I told her we needed two more minutes. She came back about 10 minutes later. The food didn't take long. I had the Mujadra Sandwich and my daughter had the chicken with hummus appetizer along with a small side of baba ghanoush. We had gone through our bread and she didn't offer to replace it so we could fully enjoy our babba ghanoush. After she delivered our food, she did refill our water glasses once but she was pretty scarce after that. I revisited Malek Al Kabob for lunch during Restaurant Week this past weekend for the $40 Combo for Two Special (normally $44.99). Both the food and service this time were a huge step down as compared to my previous several visits. It's not like the restaurant was very busy either - only around half of the front area was filled, so I found it kind of puzzling. Pita (Complimentary) - The pita has always been pretty consistent between visits. It's warm, fluffy and served steaming hot, a great vessel for all the other food. (5/5) Toum (Complimentary) - On a normal day, Malek has some of the best toum you can find in Metro Detroit. This day, both types of toum were off-putting. The normal toum still had a rich garlic flavor in a paste format, but it had a unpleasant aroma that tasted like I was eating sour sweat. The spicy toum texture was a bit more mayo-like rather than the normal paste. It seemed to have more herbs and other items mixed in as compared to the usual. It also had that sweaty taste. I normally buy a large container of the toum to take home afterwards, but this time, I couldn't even finish the two small cups we got. (2/5) Restaurant Week Special Combo for Two w/ Rice ($40) - Comes with: Hummus - This was the same good quality restaurant hummus as the usual, with a pleasing mixture of chickpeas, tahini, lemon juice. It's topped with paprika and olive oil that's not especially high quality. They add a bit too much salt to their hummus, but the salinity isn't terrible. (4/5) Fattoush - This was a pretty standard fattoush. It has greens mixed with crunchy pita chips in a tangy sumac infused dressing. The acidity level is appropriate and the salad is not overdressed. (4/5) Meat Tray - The only thing that was an improvement as compared to my previous visits was the rice. It's nice and fluffy, with a bit of an al dente bite, whereas last time it was soggy and mushy (4/5). Everything else on this plate was worse than usual. The meat overall had good char flavor, but all pieces were overcooked and dry. You can read my previous review for descriptions of what is included. (3/5) After bringing us the food, the waitress proceeded to ignore us for the rest of the meal. We had to grab our own to-go boxes and track her down for the check even though the restaurant was not busy at all. Overall, the pita, hummus, and fattoush were the same/similar quality as before. The rice was better and the toum and meat were way worse. I'm not sure what happened because this was a huge departure from all my previous visits.
