We ordered food for delivery last Friday night. The girl who took the order was great. We were told it would be 45 minutes for our delivery, the food arrived in half the time! The young delivery lady was very nice and courteous (she purposely did not drive down our driveway because she thought she might drive on our lawn, it was very dark). The food was the best I have had from here ever (i have been going there for over 30 years). Everything was hot and plentiful. Vegetables were still crisp and delicious. Sadly, they were not on the A game when went there for lunch today. I got the #8 combo, Szechuan Chicken with peanuts, fried rice and an egg roll. The egg roll was hot and crispy but contained an uninteresting cabbage-based filling. Duck sauce helped it, but only a little. The rice was inoffensive and fairly satisfying. The chicken was one-dimensional - it had some heat, but not much of any other flavor. There was only chicken, peanuts, green pepper, and the sauce, such as it was. Portions were large, and the meal was inexpensive. $13 with the tip. And Yen Yen will serve hot tea if you ask! Unlike everyone's new favorite Asian restaurant in Gardner. Service was perfect. Yen Yen, from the outside, is a nondescript place, located in the corner of a stipe mall, bracketed by Ocean State and Aubuchon Hardware. By contrast, the inside is nice enough. I enjoyed my Kung Pao chicken lunch special. Service was fast and attentive. I will definitely return. It was a pleasant surprise. Lots to try. read more

Favorite food to order from here would be the beef roll. It's delicious especially with the chili peppers in it. The lo mein was surprisingly good just cause I think some Chinese restraint at lo mein are just alright, but I would order this dish again. Please take this review for what it is: a one-time experience. That evening their Lo Mein noodles were overcooked and mushy and the overall taste was flat. Needless to say, we did not go back after that. This was several years ago, and they may have gotten better, I wouldn't know. But if my first experience is not good I won't go back to that place. Yen Yen has been around for many years, and other people might have good experiences. It just wasn't us. I should add that I have been in China and eaten true Pekin Duck and true Chinese food. What we get in the US is Americanized Chinese food that hardly has anything to do with the real deal. For example, you'd never see a PooPoo Platter in China. read more

More like YUM YUM!! Thanks to sheer luck, my passenger needed a bathroom and this was the restaurant closest after the exit. It was kinda dark in the dining area and we were the only ones there for an hour or so. Looks like they do have a buffet, but COVID nixed that in the bud. Normally, I would play it safe with General's or Orange chicken. I'm glad I changed it up for the Empress Chicken. I don't know how they did it, but the chicken was crunchy, not chewy and overall easy to bite into! Also liked the sweetness of the sauce. The portions are really huge too and can easily be shared by two people. There were some veggies in the dish as well, but I didn't care for it much, felt like it was mostly for presentation. I was super surprised with their food. Definitely the closest I will get out this way. I'm from Boston, we get more variety. But when you're out this way you kinda limit to what you get for "authentic" dishes. Definitely would order again and try other dishes. read more

A solid 3 for my first time trying got a pu pu for 2 to go and pork fried rice. Rice was almost black not sure why. Was ok tasting tho plenty of bean sprouts and pork. My favorite was the egg roll. Very good and I'm picky about them beef teriyaki was a bit dry and maybe overcooked chicken fingers were good. Big puddle of grease at the bottom of container where the pork strips sat. probably the laziest and flavorless Chinese food in all of Mass. Ordered the sweet and sour chicken and got this. This literally isn't sweet and sour chicken. It's overpriced chicken fingers and syrup. I called and lady told me it's "water,cornstarch, and a Cherry and I can pour the syrup over my rice" Second time I've ordered here and gotten truly gross food. Never ordering here again. read more

Yenyen has pulled thru this pandemic well. Care given to each dish. As a sidenote, I hope the cook mellows a bit..have had some entrees with questionable textures for BOTH chicken AND beef. PooPoo always hits a home run, great lobster sauce altho much different if you are accustomed to this dish from the North Shore. Expect a great meal at a reasonable and fair price. read more

I normally don't post reviews but I believe this deserves one. I got crab Rangoons from YenYen in Gardner MA. There was no crab meat in them, just cream cheese. I called to let them know thinking they forgot to mix it in. They were so rude, they talked to me like I had no idea what I was talking about. Two people made me repeat the story to tell me the same, that crab Rangoons are made with a mix of cream cheese and imitation crab meat, I told the I knew what a crab Rangoon was, that mine had no crab, real or imitation. They kept talking over me and no listening, finally I said I wasn't going to by from them ever again, the last guy I spoke with said OK. This used to be the best around, they're going down fast, with such high prices, the quality should match or at least the costumer service should be a lot better. read more

my son went in with his father for dinner on 12/15/23 and ordered Kung Pao chicken. he informed the waitstaff that he has an allergy to shrimp. food comes out and instead of chicken it's shrimp. they refused to take the food back to correct it due to "covid restrictions". When I called to inform then I got put on hold several times and was told that I was not telling the truth... Give me a break! The owner finally called us back and claimed that this appetizer was put in the bag and was on camera... For $10 they accused us of lying. The food was also undercooked, they're going downhill fast. When I came here as a kid, I thought Yen Yen was a fine dining experience! The cloth napkins, the dim lighting, the Asian decor . . . it seemed like the coolest place ever! Now I see it for what it is - strip mall Chinese food. I have no complaints at all about the prices or the service at Yen Yen. The prices are lower than what you'd pay closer to Boston or even out in the Berkshires, and the servers are friendly and attentive. Unfortunately, the food isn't very good. I ate here recently with my parents (their treat - yay!) and ordered the sweet and sour shrimp entree. It was $10.50, and it came on a large platter with cherries, pineapples, and diced peppers. The sauce was sweet, but where the sour went, I guess I'll never know. The shrimp itself was enveloped in breading, the same kind used for chicken fingers. The shrimp looked big from the outside, but I soon realized there was only about one piece of shrimp in a giant clump of breading, which was greasy, doughy, and not thoroughly cooked. I had to seriously pick through the breading just to find the shrimp inside of it. No wonder why it only cost $10.50. You're mostly just paying for bread and a few chunks of pineapple. Mom and Dad didn't complain about their food; Dad got the Marco Polo dish and Mom got some lo mein and chicken wings. Maybe their food was decent and I just picked a lousy dish. I recommend driving another 15 minutes and going to Chopsticks in Leominster if you want Chinese food. read more

You know, for the area it's not that bad. I remember Yen Yen being the epitomy of Chinese Food as a kid. It's still not that bad. Their crab rangoons are stuffed with cream cheese, which I like. The food is typically smothered in sauce and not dry, so that's always good too. Overall, it's good compared to the local competition. read more
