Never had a buffet that you ordered from your table, sushi is made to order, you go to the "buffet" to select the veg/protein/spices/sauces for a bowl if you want one. But it's all fresh. Hungry Bowl has opened in the former Outback Steakhouse in Leominster. This AYCE Mongolian KBBQ and sushi restaurant offers weekday lunch, dinner, and all day weekend dinner. They also operate other locations in Wethersfield CT and Bowie MD and more locations soon in Northborough and Latham NY. After you are seated and a staff member will take your initial order for appetizers & sushi. Next, you go up to the raw ingredients food bar, grab a tray & bowl and fill up your bowl with choices of noodles, veggies, meats, seafood, & sauces (sampling allowed) and fill out a card with your name & table number and choice of rice, also served in the bowl. The place has table & booth seating with electronic tablets on each table for reorders of sushi & salads. The same concept is used at Hungry Pot (sister restaurants). I stopped by Hungry Bowl for lunch recently. The place was not too busy mid afternoon, but it can get very busy around dinner. I was seated in a booth and a staff member arrived to take my initial order for apps and sushi, ordering shrimp tempura, pork gyoza, tabiyaki balls and salmon avocado roll. I headed up to the food bar filling my bowl with noodles, several veggies, sausage, crabmeat, shrimp, and hungry bowl sauce. I gave the cook my bowl of ingredients and sauces to cook on the round hot circular grill which they can prepare multiple orders on the same grill. I took a seat and most of my apps were already there. A staff member brought over my prepared Mongolian noodle bowl 7 minutes later, very hot. I also ordered a salmon roll, spicy salmon roll, kaini salad, and salmon skin salad on the electronic tablet, reorders coming out in 5 to 8 minutes. I was almost full already, but I headed up for another trip to the food bar & grill. I got penne, mushroom, shrimp, mussels, garlic and tomato sauce, something a bit different. The hot penne bowl was served to my table in about 7 minutes. This bowl was pretty tasty, but they put fried rice at the bottom of the bowl under the pasta, which I specified no rice on the card. Oh well, I barely finished the bowl and headed up to the register to pay out. The check for one for the lunch and ice water was $27.81 with tax and before tip. Overall, I give this place 3.6/5.0 stars. The choices on the tablet for reorders were limited compared to the picture menu. They are still working on offering their entire menu during the opening phase. Anyway, I found there was more than enough to eat here, leaving fairly happy and very full. read more

Great place! We have been here a couple times now. The staff is friendly, the food is good and the place is clean. They were probably a bit overstaffed the first time we were there, a few workers looked bored. The most recent visit seemed properly staffed and they were a bit busier, but the service was still pretty quick. Lunch $25, dinner $31 and $35 if you add in Sashimi. So many items to choose from. Drinks not included. This has become a new favorite date night restaurant for us. read more

I went to Hungry Bowl the first day they opened at 12:00. The service was amazing. I like that you can order 49 items from the lunch menu for $25.99. If you really want a bang for your buck I suggest that you go with the Premium at $35.99 and try everything that you can. The atmosphere is great and the employees are very friendly and knowledgeable about everything that this restaurant offers. 5 out of 5 across the board for me. Will be going back read more

Went here for takeout and the language barrier was horrific. They had trouble understanding the word "takeout". They finally shoved a menu at me but it didn't have the item I wanted that was listed on their website. Entering the mall you also pass vagrants living in their campers. One of the first times I was truly satisfied after eating out. first of all, the food is just amazing quality. The appetizers are fresh, not oily, and taste better than your average china buffet. The fried chinese doughnuts specifically are very good. The sushi is fresh, tasty, and the wasabi is real. When we got sat down, our server showed us the ropes fast. Now, the real part is the mongolian bowl. You can choose fried, browned, steamed, or none. They have alot of carb options and plenty of veggies, and the protein selection is solid. They have plenty of sauces for you to choose from to make the best bowl, make sure to get some because it can be dry without sauce. The rice bowl is phenomenal, with amazingly charred vegetables and perfectly cooked meat, its hard to find a spot that will beat this. The decorations are nice and modern, its very clean, and doesnt smell like some other restaurants. I'm giving this place 2 stars mainly because of the poor service from our waiter. I came here for dinner with my nephews, and it was their first time visiting. We were actually seated really quickly--less than two minutes--even though the waitlist said there were 11 groups ahead of us, which was a great start. Our waiter, Yang, seemed nice at first so we thought we were in for a good experience. We ordered appetizers and then went up to build our Mongolian bowls. When the appetizers arrived, we realized we didn't have any plates. We waited and looked around for about five minutes but couldn't find Yang anywhere. Eventually we had to flag down another server just to get plates. Throughout the entire meal, Yang never checked on us once. From where I was sitting, I could see him talking with coworkers and eating instead of checking on tables. We needed refills and napkins but never got the chance to ask him because he never came by. The table behind us even had to go find him themselves just to get their check. When we finished eating, we also had to track him down to get our bill. The restaurant wasn't busy, which made the lack of service even more frustrating. Because of that, I left a very small tip since the service definitely didn't deserve the typical 25%. Heard the food was good, decided to try it out but didn't make it to food before we left. Restaurant was absolutely freezing. So uncomfortable to sit in and there was no way food was going to stay warm and enjoyable. Tried for lunch on a Saturday. Only option was to spend $36+ on their premium offerings with all you can eat appetizers and sushi. There was no reasonably sized meal option for lunch. We get charging more on a weekend, but at least offer something more reasonable like the weekday Mongolian BBQ only for people who don't want to over eat at lunch. When we left we comment on the temp and the manager was extremely rude. read more

I just returned from my 2nd visit to this new restaurant within two weeks. Each visit was memorable for service and food. The food was delicious and very fresh, cooked after you choose the ingredients. I was pleasantly surprised on my first visit and not disappointed on the second.
