Awesome burgers for $9. Stopped by after we set up camp here in Brainerd. Perfect classic rock and roll bar (right next to the Elks Club). Waitress said the beef burgers were fresh, never frozen. Can build your own (I created a bacon pepper jack cheese burger). Wife had the jalapeños burger and son had a plain cheese burger. They were phenomenal! And the onion rings were spectacular. I suspect they are freshly made as well. I we have not had ones breaded as these. They also had an impressive list of tap beers. Mostly larger domestic, but also a few local craft. Highly suggest you dump the large chains and stop here when in the area! read more

What a great place! Excellent prices, classic neighborhood bar with good food with clever twists on classics, plus best Bloody Marys (and I agree with their menu: who needs all the fancy additions to a Mary when the drink itself is so good, especially with the house-made horseradish dill pickle). Well, I will say the food came out fast hot and was tasty! The service was lacking! Bear minimum at best but what gets me is all the hidden up charges!! At no time was I told it was an up charge for cheese on a cheese burger or that when they asked if I wanted ranch for my fries that it was a dollar more! I know it's only a buck but it isn't upfront till you get the tab! sandwiches don't come with chips with an upcharge for fries, you just buy the sandwich! I guess I might be nitpicking about a few upcharges but just about every other restaurant in the area lets you know what you are paying for!! I'm guessing if they could charge for the bathroom or the air you breathe in the establishment they would!! read more

Best burger in the area! We've been coming up on weekends for 20 years. We're now full time up here, and do our best to frequent local establishments. This was our first time here. Burgers were really good! They cook them to your preference and did a great job with that! Servers were friendly! Both of these things are hard to find so I give them a 5 for that! Cons: Definitely a bar feel, but people seemed friendly, but seemed to have a crowd they knew. What bothered me the most was the nickel and diming. Your $13 cali burger was that, just a burger (very minimalist with the toppings on all burgers, rodeo burger had one thin onion straw, patty melt had two half pieces of onion, etc.) Not even a handful of crappy chips included. We ordered two baskets of apps, tots and o-rings, to go as our sides. The rings were $10 and there were 10-12 rings in it and not big ones, about half of what the picture posted from 5 years ago looked like. The tots were $7 and would've been considered a side amount at most places, like pretty much just covered the bottom of the basket, no heaping. We didn't get our included honey mustard with the rings, but no one came back and checked, felt like they owed us $1 since that's the charge for a 2 oz condiment if you want one not included. If you ordered a side to your burger another $3-5 was added depending on what and that takes me to gourmet or Twin Cities pricing, or some amazing ambiance! Probably not something served in a plastic basket. So bottom line, if I wanted just a really good burger and a beer, I might consider it! But I wouldn't take the family there for a meal again. read more

Absolutely awesome and superbly clean time warp! As a child of the 70's and 80's, I love the decor and ambiance of this place. It is the absolute cleanest restaurant you will find. I sat at the bar and everything behind there was spotless, including the bathrooms. Sadly, idk if I will ever get back to go again, but the food was fantastic too! This place is awesome. The people who work there are very friendly and make you feel at home. The drinks are great, food is delicious and is made from real healthy ingredients. It's not made ahead and warmed up. It's fresh and good. Burgers made to order. You can chose from many many toppings. Onion rings beer batter fresh and probably the best I've ever had. French fries crispy and made from fresh potato's not frozen as many places use. They have homemade soup of the day every day. Made from scratch. Not the usual open a can for the base and add on. Real homemade soup. The kitchen is open late so if your looking for a place to eat after the "normal" dinner hours they are open! I love this place. We walked in at about 4:00pm on a Wednesday afternoon and it was a ghost town! I think a tumbleweed blew past my leg. I was immediately displeased. Luckily my boyfriend insisted we stay and eat some food. This was our first visit to Brainerd ad new were a little scared we had ventured into the wrong place. This place is a dive. This is a dive bars dive bar. But guess what?!?! The food was really good!! I had a chicken, mushroom, Swiss burger. My boyfriend had a regular mushroom, Swiss burger and they both turned out great! I was really surprised. I was just so expecting to be disappointed. I can honestly say that I don't think I would want to spend my Friday or Saturday night hanging out here (it just felt depressing), but if traveling through again I would entertain the idea of stopping for another burger. Looking for local and found it. Just a block off the faded downtown in the same building (but separate) as the elks club is this. A fairly modern, spacious, clean bar with pool tables , TVs, pinball and dart machines scattered about. Lots of seating around the bar and at a dozen or so tables of various heights. The bar features a surprisingly good selection of tap beers! All listed by alc and ibu. Very friendly and helpful bar tender who seemed to be managing a small Wednesday crowd well by himself. Oh, the food you ask? Very good. I recommend the onion rings. They specialize in burgers it seems, and the burgers are very good. One note is that the burgers are ala carte another is that they were cooked about a step more than requested (med rare was med etc) A good place to stop for burgers and beer! read more

We stopped here because of the high rating and it was a good choice. Our server / owner was very nice and knowledgeable. We had a California burger, a patty melt and a chicken wrap and French fries. The burgers were 1/2 pounds, very tasty, the wrap was very big and good. French fries were ok. We also had a Bloody Mary with Clamato, which I usually do not like, but I have to say it was very good and I would definitely order again. Wanted to pop into a local watering hole for some dinner and this fit the bill. It's nothing fancy on the inside or out but nice staff, delicious food, and not too bad prices. I had the California burger and fries (note fries are extra), cooked standard medium...came out delicious. They also have a pretty good beer selection on tap (not 50 but a good variety that changes they said). Patrons seemed as though they're probably regulars, but not a bad thing. We read the reviews on the food and I really wanted to try the onion rings but, we have a job and don't have the luxury of waiting all afternoon to try them. It's a once a year tradition to hit up this joint for a family dinner after a Brainerd Warriors girl's hockey game. Not much to look at in this expansive bar but she's got good things to offer! Video games, pool tables, dart boards, and the shi**ist stereo system I've ever experienced. I noticed you can buy dart supplies too if that matters to you. I read that the onion rings are a favorite so we ordered a couple baskets for the table. They recommend the house "boom boom" sauce and I actually do too. It's a great unidentifiable sauce to dip your fried goods into. I think this bar shines when it comes to the burgers. They come ala cart and you have to order fries and dipping sauces separately. I dug the habenero ranch. Pizzas are passable but nothing to rave about. My Sister got a salad which is stupid and that's basically how she felt about it. Yep. Burgers here are good (it's the beef). Daily special can be a bargain. Others reviewers rave about the onion rings which are fine if you're a light batter kinda person, but I prefer mine more coated. This is a locals hangout with cheap drinks, open pool tables and friendly staff. Had no idea it was here but now swing by every time I am in town. Dined there at least 4 or 5 times now and always enjoyed it. Good beers on tap. Best burger in Brainerd, hands down. It's very basic bar food but it's done very well. Service is always prompt and friendly. Doesn't seem to try to attract tourists-- no "up north" decor, lake views, patio, etc. A true Brainerd locals experience. Crowds at night get a little rowdy in a good-natured sort of way; I don't think it's a good place to bring your kids, at least at night. read more

Incredible food! Hands down the best onion rings I've ever had and you have to get the habanero ranch (both of which are homemade). My group also tried the gyro and a burger, both of which were amazing. Good craft beer selection that rotates often. AND most importantly, they have stuff to do, pool and DARTS! This was our first visit; but, it won't be our last even though we are determined to try every restaurant in Baxter and Brainerd. The food was awesome! I had the build a burger which allowed me to pick from more than a dozen toppings (first three free). I added bacon for $1.50 extra; and, it was well worth it. The only thing wrong with the burger is that the bun was too small for the large patty; and, it was a Kaiser roll! I also had onion rings which are hand dipped on site--nothing frozen here! My husband had the special, a ham, cheese and onion sandwich which he said was delicious. He also had the tomato soup which was excellent too; and, he knows soup! They make all of their soups on site from scratch. We both ordered iced tea and rather than dispense a weak Lipton tea, they brought us bottles of Pure Leaf unsweetened black tea--so much better than what most restaurants serve. Don't let the bar setting fool you. This place has awesome food! The patty melt had bourbon onions on it and the chicken sandwich was moist and flavorful with lots of cheese and mushrooms! The bloody Mary's are a must and be sure to get the homemade horseradish pickle. We wanted a whole jar of those. Definitely a great meal! read more
