I'm surprised this place isn't rated 5 stars! I'm pretty picky when it comes to food, especially when you're spending a decent amount these days. I was impressed by the service with our server and how attentive he was in checking back in. Had a raspberry Moscow mule and it was very delicious! The appetizer we ordered were cheese curds and it was very nummy! Crispy and perfect texture. I ordered the fish tacos and they were so good! Great flavor and variety of flavor with each bite. Thought they executed it very well. I also snuck some sweet potato fries off a family members plate and I was jealous for not ordering! I enjoyed my drinks and food! I love going around and trying all the different pickle pizzas people offer. When I saw they had one on the menu I had to try it. An Alfredo base sauce is used which is different than any others I have tried. The pizza was delicious and I'm still talking about how tasty the crust was. After talking with my friend and hearing her review about the pizza we both equally agree delicious pizza but the Alfredo sauce could have been thicker. The environment was pretty quiet and low-key. While his knowledge of the menu and drink selections was still developing, he more than made up for it with his personal attention, quick responses, and genuine sense of humor. From taking orders and delivering meals to sprinting back for tartar sauce without hesitation, Ayden set the tone for the evening and reminded us all of the power of great customer service. Every organization faces shortcomings--whether in training, product availability, or menu depth--but exceptional service can bridge those gaps and leave customers walking away with a smile. Ate her for the first time this week and had a great time. The food and service were both great and it's good to finally see something good in this cool spot with views of North Long lake. I expected similar food to the original Dunmire location and that's what you have here. The menu is different, a little smaller with a bunch of new items but still similar. They aren't doing any specials yet, but plan to once they get things tuned up. They have interesting cocktail specials (many using local products) all in the $12-15 price range which is pretty normal for places on the water. I had a really good Paloma, my wife had the Loon Juice. Both were good, neither as sweet as they can be sometime. I had the Pork Chop with AuGratin Potatoes. The pork was moist with a good grill flavor. It would have been better with a sauce or relish on it (like the excellent bacon jam on one of the burgers.) The potatoes were more like crusty backed Cheesy Hash-browns, not what I expected but still good. I also had a way above average side salad with really good, chunky blue cheese dressing. My wife had the Elwood Burger. It was tasty and juicy. She had really good onion rings on the side. This is another good spot by the Dunmire team. I love to see another place up here that makes their own food rather than buying everything from someone like Sysco. read more

Went here two times for business meals with customers from out of state and got food poisoning twice. The first time I ordered there stroganoff with a lemonade, went back a few moths later and got the pork chop with a lemonade and same result at home later that evening. The staff was great though, waitresses were quick on refills and quick to take additional orders for the customers we brought. Maybe the cook needs more training or the food isn't being stored properly or it's just already bad when they get it. No one else got sick just me just to throw that out there. read more

Sadly would not recommend Dunmires On The Lake to anyone even though Dunmires Bar & Grill on 210 has always been amazing. We thought we would try this place after hearing it was voted one of America's Best Restaurants. We made a reservation for 9 people at 6pm on a Monday. The beginning started off ok with getting drinks but then it went downhill. We saw table after table come in after us get food and leave. At one point, almost an hour in the waitress came over and said there was one ticket in front of us and we would get our food. Then two more tables that came in after us - a table of 3 received food and something was wrong with one of their dishes and they received something else and a table of 7 received their food - ate and paid before we got ours. An hour and a half later we received our food. Two of us got chicken Alfredo which had no taste/flavor to the sauce or chicken and the chicken parmesan was salty. The other food was ok but not enjoyable after waiting for so long. The waitress was very nice, repeatedly apologized and said the manager was aware. The manager never came to apologize and when the bill came there was no comp for the wait. With a few at the table in the service industry, we were surprised. During our 2 hour wait and dinner, we had to continuously swat flies away. Definitely do not recommend. read more

This was a great find in a smaller city. Taing was easy on a Wednesday. The menu is locally inspired (walleye chowder And fried filets) but also extensive enough to please most palates. I would return to try the deliciously described pork and salmon entrees. We just weren't that hungry, so had lobster shooters--lobster bisque shots with LARGE lobster hunks. Sixteen of us converged on Dunmires for lunch. We did call ahead to give a little warning but there was no wait (late lunch) and the staff was very accommodating. They sat us on the deck, as requested, providing a beautiful backdrop of the lake. The menu is a little spendy but the food is quality. My wife, who grew up in Minnesota, wanted a Walleye sandwich for dinner. We were visiting my wife's family in Brainerd. My sister-in-law made reservations at Dunmires on the Lake. I read the recent Yelp reviews and became concerned. But I kept my concerns to myself. It is a Monday night. But Dunmires is open and hopping!! We waited only a few minutes to be greeted by the busy waitstaff. We were promptly taken to a four-top overlooking the lake. Our server, Annie, was busy but very cheerful and knowledgeable. She offered water for all and gave us menus. She asked if we needed a few minutes to decide on drinks. We did. But I ordered a cup of onion soup because I knew I wanted to try it. There was a little bit of a wait for Annie to return. The short delay was nothing like what previous reviewers had complained of. Annie returned and took drink orders. She answered questions competently and made suggestions. When the drinks came, they were exactly as ordered and well mixed. The food came out in a reasonable time and was hot and well presented. My wife loved her Walleye sandwich. The fish was perfectly moist with a nice breading and an appropriate sandwich roll that was soft and fresh. My sister-in-law ordered the pork chop. It was the star of the evening, earning oohs and ahhs when it was placed on the table. It was beautifully done and topped with a very-flavorful topping. The sides were perfect: au gratin potatoes and french green beans. My brother-in-law had difficulty deciding what to order. Amy had suggested that he try the cauliflower steak. But he's kind of old fashioned. So he ordered the pasta with beef stroganoff and the lobster bisque. He liked both just fine, but thought he probably should have ordered one of those beautiful pork chops. My in-laws took the portions of each that they could not finish home. So they will each have another chance to enjoy their respective dishes tomorrow. I was between the fettuccine Alfredo with chicken, a Queso Burger, and their version of French Dip (made with pot roast meat). Annie suggested the dip and I followed her suggestion. I used my cup of soup as my side at her suggestion. The sandwich was great! The pot roast meat was a little heartier that the typical thinly-sliced roast beef. The Swiss cheese was melted nicely. The roll was soft and fresh. The Au Jus was excellent: flavorful and not too salty. My onion soup was very good. Perhaps it could have spent another 30 seconds under the broiler to get the cheese nice and bubbly and brown. But that's a small detail. The flavor and balance of the soup, cheese, onions and croutons was very good. I would rate it as much better than the onion soup I had had the other day at a nearby fine dining restaurant at a fancy resort. We had dessert waiting at hime, so we did not try any of their offerings. In all, Annie made a good meal a very pleasant experience. Now, it is true that we saw a few more flies than we would have liked. But it IS summer on the lake up here, and the local health department limits the types of fly devices that can be used. But when we told Annie about it, she told us they were aware of the problem and that they had taken extra steps to deal with the issue. The place has a nice ambiance. It's not stuffy at all. It is light and airy inside with beautiful views of the lake and a nice patio for outside dining. There is a banquet room, with its own kitchen downstairs which they can, and do, use when they know they will be overflowing. They don't normally expect large crowds on Monday nights. So when they get slammed, sometimes things slow down more than they would like. I asked Annie how long she had worked at Dunmires on the Lake. She told us "about a month". So she may not have been around when some of the more derogatory reviews were written. But she will certainly not be the subject of future negative reviews. From what I saw (and this is just one man -- and one party's opinion), the recent highly-derogatory reviews are undeserved. The owner and head Chef has opened several restaurants in the local area which routinely get rave reviews. I am advised that he is a hard worker who has grown up in the restaurant business. My in-laws claim they have never had a bad experience here. I've eaten at another of his restaurants and the food, service and ambiance were just what I wanted. Please do not let the negative reviews scare you away from trying Dunmires on the Lake. Just go and give it a try. Then make your own decision. And ask for Annie if she's available. (No, she's not related to me. I am just a brand new fan. I thought she was a great server with good energy, who really likes where she works and the people she works for.) read more

We're visiting my parents cabin from Arizona and we're able to swing a date night and decided to try Dunmires! We were greeted immediately and were told we could sit wherever - chose a cozy booth. Our server Katie was over immediately with water and to take drink orders. She was super helpful with menu recommendations and not pushy when we said we weren't sure if we were just doing apps or eating more. We started with the stuffed mushrooms (amazing and small little bites but you get a ton of them) and then the tempura plate (shrimp tempura was amazing and the lobster bites seemed to have more filler than lobster but were still delicious) plus the dipping sauce served with it was excellent. We then ordered the twin lobster tails to share and for our sides chose 2 side salads (asked to upgrade to Caesar's and she said not a problem) - salads and lobster were amazing. For dessert we chose the donuts with honey - unbelievably delicious especially with the honey dip. These were really small bites but a bunch came in the order. Stopped in with a buddy for an early lunch in mid- September...our first time at this restaurant. We enjoyed a friendly welcome from our server who was friendly throughout the meal. I started with a cup of French Onion soup...what I thought would be a good choice on this chilly day. In another restaurant it might have been but here the soup was bland, tasteless and a waste of money. My Fish and Chips (found in the "Sandwiches" section of the menu for some reason) arrived very quickly. The deep fried fish was overcooked but well presented (see photo). The building/dining area/restrooms were attractive and clean. Unfortunately, flies were a HUGE distraction at the table. At one time we counted 7 flies at our table alone. I overheard a guest at an adjacent table state that flies were bad during his previous visit. Good to know it wasn't only me attracting the insects!! Positives included: friendly staff, fairly large/reasonably priced menu, attractive room. Been here once and did not have a good experience. They weren't very busy and yet it took them 10-15 minutes to come get our drink order. It took over an hour to get our food. (It was only two dishes). Food was not good at all and portions were tiny for the prices they are charging. The ambiance is very confusing as the decor seems to match but the tables and chairs don't. It seems like they thought a paint job and beach-themed decor was good enough without gutting the place fully. This restaurant is in a great location! It's situated right on the lake and has a very nice view. The location is definitely the high point of this restaurant. The food is just ok and the service is REALLY slow. The wait staff is friendly and helpful. I think the extremely long wait for food must be an issue with the kitchen. We were there on a random afternoon when the restaurant wasn't busy and we waited 45+ minutes for our food. We ordered a burger, the Greek chicken sandwich and the open faced hot beef sandwich. There was nothing special about any of it. We did really enjoy the loon juice cocktail. It was refreshing and delicious! Because of the long wait for food and the underwhelming nature of the food we won't be back. I wouldn't recommend eating here, but it might be a nice spot for cocktails. The drinks were good. The service was excellent. The food, not so great. My calimari, which was 18 or 19 dollars, was reconstituted calimari fries. Not real calimari. I didn't eat it. Horrible. I was still charged for it. One of my companions had steak bites. They were good, about 1/3 pound for 23 dollars. The other had a seafood platter. Potatoes were cold, everything else was kind of ok.
