My daughter is 5 and she started YIC 3 months ago. We did trials at different TKDs in town and she loves YIC the most. The class size is much smaller compare to other TKDs, so the Master is able to spend more time on each student. I was skeptical to commit a new activity for a year, but my daughter enjoyed her time so much, we signed up for a year right after the trial. Since she started, her 3 other classmates became interested and are now doing the trial classes and all love it. I'm so pleased with the progress my daughter has made so far. She has become more confident and is starting to participate in class even though she's very shy. She loves the games and life lessons taught in class. Master Louis and Master Alan are great with kids, I highly recommend their program if you got young kids.

My son has been here for more than a year and he loves it! This is one of the rare Taekwondo center that is built by a elite Olympic coach. The price is fair too. They offer free trial so you can see for yourself.

I started my son (age 4) at YIC a couple of months ago to help build his confidence and help teach him a little More respect than he already has. When I started him he was nervous so his sister (age 7) decided to join in as well. I have been BLOWN away with the both of them and how well they are doing and taking to the instruction given by Master Alan. They have each other to encourage one another during class as well as at home when they are practicing. They both just received their yellow belts. Seeing them test and how happy they were is am fun to see as a parent. The patience that master Alan has with all the kids is very reassuring. He always makes sure they are putting in their best effort, being respectful, and following directions. YIC follows all the COVID precautions. We are so happy we found YIC. It's definitely worth a try for your kiddos!

Love this taekwondo school. Master Alan, Instructor Louise and all the assistant instructors are very nice, professional and passionate. My daughter has been learning taekwondo here for 1.5 years since she was 6. In this school, she did not just learn the techniques but also discipline, being respectful and responsible.

My daughter started her TKD journey here at 5. She is now 8, and she is not only learning TKD here, but also determination, discipline, respectful and being humble. This is sportsmanship suppose to be! Master Alan and Instructor Luis set the best example for the kiddos. Families here are welcoming and supportive, which creates the ONE YIC FAMILY!!

Our family recently joined YIC because our previous studio closed due to COVID. Master Alan welcomed us with open arms and our 8 year old son jumped right in! Students & parents are kind. Master Alan will ensure your student learns proper sparring and form techniques, while being firm & fun. His heart is in Taekwondo. We feel confident in him and his studio.

They intentionally keep the number of students small, so every child receives plenty of individual attention. During sparring or practice sessions, the environment is always respectful and gentle--there are no overly aggressive students, which gives me great peace of mind. I also really appreciate that both boys and girls train together here. Unlike many other places where higher levels are dominated by boys, this environment feels balanced, inclusive, and encouraging for all children. The assistant instructors--both older brothers and sisters--are wonderful. They genuinely care about each child, know them by name, and treat them with patience and warmth. You can truly feel that the kids are loved and supported. This is a very safe and well-managed environment. Parents can feel comfortable stepping away to take care of other things, knowing their children are being watched carefully. If a parent is not present, children are not allowed to leave on their own. Sometimes, the owner's wife will even personally walk a child to the car, which speaks volumes about their sense of responsibility and care. They are honest, loving, and deeply committed to the children. I've seen older students who have grown up come back just to visit them, and that alone says everything--how much the kids truly love and respect their coaches. This is more than just a place to train. It feels like a community, and we are very grateful to be part of it.

I've taken five fundamental classes so far: 4 MMA classes 1 Jiu-Jitsu class 1 Kickboxing Cardio class Why I Recommend It: Well-Organized Curriculum The curriculum is structured in a way that's perfect for beginners. Each class builds on the basics, making it easy to follow along and feel confident even if you've never stepped foot in a martial arts gym before. Supportive Coaches The coaches are incredibly skilled at teaching newcomers. They break things down clearly and provide personal attention to make sure everyone is comfortable. It's clear that they're passionate about helping people learn, regardless of experience level. Friendly & Welcoming Environment From the coaches to the other students, the gym creates a warm and supportive atmosphere. Everyone is kind and encouraging, which made it easy for me to feel at ease and motivated. Concerns Before Joining & How They Were Addressed: No Experience & Adapting to the New Environment I was nervous about fitting in, but the well-organized curriculum and the coaches' experience with beginners helped me adjust quickly. The environment is friendly, and everyone is willing to help out! Concerns About Smells As someone who's sensitive to smells, I was a little worried about the cleanliness of the gym. But I was pleasantly surprised to find that they clean thoroughly between classes, so there's no need to worry about unpleasant odors. When we first enrolled, we were hoping to find an activity that would help our child stay active, learn discipline, and build confidence. What we found was much more than just a martial arts class. Master Kang's Taekwondo has created an environment where children are encouraged to grow not only physically, but also emotionally and socially. One of the things that stands out the most is the quality of the instructors. The teachers are patient, supportive, and genuinely invested in helping each child succeed. They have a great ability to connect with kids while still maintaining structure and discipline during class. The balance between fun and focus is something they manage very well. Classes are engaging and energetic, and the instructor does a great job keeping the children motivated and attentive from start to finish. We especially appreciate the way the program encourages students to support one another. Rather than creating a competitive atmosphere where kids feel pressured to outperform their peers, the instructors focus on building a community where students celebrate each other's accomplishments. When one child achieves something--whether it's mastering a new technique, completing a form, or earning a new belt--the other students are encouraged to cheer them on. It creates a very positive environment where kids learn that success can be shared and that supporting friends is just as important as personal progress. Another important lesson the instructors emphasize is learning to work through challenges and setbacks. Martial arts can be difficult at times, and not every technique comes easily. The instructors consistently encourage the students to keep trying, practice regularly, and not be discouraged by mistakes. Over the past year, we've seen our child become more resilient and willing to keep working at something even when it feels difficult. This mindset has carried over into other parts of life, including school and everyday responsibilities. Accountability is also a big part of what the children learn here. The instructors help students understand that progress comes from effort and consistency. They encourage the kids to learn their routines, listen carefully, and take responsibility for their own improvement. These lessons about discipline and commitment are incredibly valuable and extend far beyond martial arts training. Another thing we really appreciate is how engaging the instructor is with the children. It's not always easy to keep a group of kids focused, especially after a long day at school, but the instructor does an excellent job of making the classes both structured and fun. The students are constantly moving, practicing techniques, and improving their coordination and strength, all while staying excited about what they are learning. One of the best signs that we chose the right place is how much our child looks forward to class. After spending the day at school, it would be understandable if they were tired or reluctant to go to another activity. Instead, our child is always excited to go to Taekwondo and looks forward to every class. That enthusiasm says a lot about the positive environment the instructors have created. The school also offers additional days and activities that help build friendships and teamwork among the students. These events are fun for the kids but also reinforce important life skills such as cooperation, respect, and perseverance. They give the students a chance to bond outside of regular classes and strengthen the sense of community within the school. Over the past year, we have seen a lot of growth in our child. Their confidence has improved, they are more willing to try new things, and they take pride in their progress. The structure and encouragement provided by the instructors have made a real difference. As parents, we also appreciate how welcoming the overall environment is. It's clear that the instructors care about the students and want them to succeed, both in Taekwondo and in life. They create a space where kids feel supported, challenged, and encouraged to keep improving. We plan to continue coming to Master Kang's Taekwondo and supporting our child as they work toward earning their black belt--or until they decide they are ready to move on to something else. Either way, the lessons they are learning here--discipline, perseverance, respect, and teamwork--are skills that will stay with them for years to come. Overall, we highly recommend Master Kang's Taekwondo to any family looking for a program that focuses not just on martial arts, but also on building character and confidence in children. It has been a wonderful experience for our child and our family.
