We pulled out our kids and were considering taking a break from TKD all together. We happen to pass by DK Dragon TKD and saw a summer special. I spoke to Master Danny Kim (owner) and just wanted a lil info but he invited me to sit down in his office. He wanted to know what the problem was with the previous TKD location, and he was genuine about addressing those concerns. He got me to sign up for the summer special. My kid was hooked. Master Kim is extremely attentive to his students. He has a real flair for keeping young kids engaged. Discipline is taught at any martial arts studio, but Master Kim, Master Rojo, Master George and the other instructors really know how to balance, administer and teach the kids. You can tell how effective their teachings are because they have attracted a very large clientele. Word of mouth travels fast, especially amongst parents of the same schools, sports leagues, and play groups. Master Kim and his staff definitely deserve all the success they have earned. Classes have a healthy number of kids in them, mixed ages and belts-- although there are separate classes for basic belts vs advanced belts. I really like how Mr. Yoo teaches the class, involving the entire group. Lower belts learn from watching higher belts, and sometimes the kids at higher belts tutor lower belts on movements. He "gamifies" different sections of the class, which keeps things motivating and entertaining. But also, Mr. Yoo keeps high standards on expectations for the kids without being brutal about it. In my own child, I feel that he's growing an appreciation for earning his accomplishments and the hard work that goes behind it. I've also seen him push himself past his own comfort zone and achieve some really amazing feats. The room has a great community feel to it that is positive, even when things get a little competitive. Overall, I couldn't wish for a more perfect experience for our son (and believe me, we shopped around looking at several studios before landing on this one).

I chose this studio because of a referral from my best friend who's kids compete in tournaments. While my son is slower and less athletic than the other kids his motivation is to keep getting the next level up. I like how the coaches know the kids by name and take the time to instruct with demonstrations and watching them closely while they grapple. I tell my son he doesn't need to win, just keep trying. After a year and a half we are still here twice a week trying our best. He's about to earn his grey and white belt and I'm proud so of him.
