Our kid started with the grasshopper program (loved it) then gradually moved up to tiger and currently in dragon (5yr old), will eventually get his yellow belt this year. He was super shy at first and didn't want to go at all during our free 2 weeks trial but slowly he made friends and is having fun now he looks forward to excel class every week. We love this place because it has a high sense of community. All of the instructors there also started at excel when they were kids. The former Master was also there as a kid. Feels like a legacy. The Marcelinos truly treat everyone like family and nurture you towards your potential; but at the same time there is no question that you need to do your part. Excel Taekwondo center surely lives up to its name! I have checked out other centers here in the Valley, but this one ranked 1st in all aspects of an excellent environment for my son. (1) Facilities - the center is kept clean, spacious, pleasant and in a convenient location. Topanga Mall is right close by if you decide to just drop off your kids and do a little shopping before picking them up again. Otherwise, if you decide to just stay with your child, there are plenty of seats inside this air-conditioned center for you to watch the kids perfect their forms or spar with the other children. (2) Instructors - respectful, well mannered and very inspiring. I have seen how dedicated these instructors are and passionate about what they do for more than 2 years now- teaching martial arts. They have classes from real small kids to oldies but goodies ;-). (3) Cost/Pricing - trust me, they have one of the best pricing in the area. For what you pay for, every cent is worth-it!!! My child started 2 years ago and is now a red-belt- wooohoo! He did not just have fun in those 2 years, but he actually learned Martial Arts and acquired significant values that go with it: respect, discipline, etc. (4) Other activities - The center runs other socials which you might find very helpful: anti-bullying seminars, demo team set up for birthday parties, exposure to tournaments in and around the different states, socials with other Excel families during their annual picnics/Christmas parties, etc. There's too many good things I want to say about this place. But I will stop here because I have to go back to work. So if I were you, check them out now. It will be worth 15 minutes of your time to talk to them about your kids. read more

This is one of the best WTF style TKD in the valley. They are not just excellent instructors in the art of TKD but also very patient and encouraging especially with the children (my 2 kids especially!) They are very gentle with the youngsters but at the same time, they teach them discipline, focus, and how to be a moral person as a whole. There is always something new with the curriculum that you will never get bored. On top of that, the facility is very neat and clean! My daughter attended this center for almost 2 years. I' had researched alot of TKD centers in the valley and this one was far most the BEST one. The staff and the classes are impeccable. The staff treated you like family. They had family oriented activities outside of the classes which made you feel like you were part of a extended family. I have made friends here at this facility which will be long term relationships. They treat your children like their own children. I would recommend this facility over and over again!!! I first learned about this place after attending a birthday party for my niece. I was so impressed with Mr. Marcelino (the owner), and the way he handled the kids. It was firm, but with a little light-heartedness to not make it so strict. When we decided to finally enroll my son, this place was always in the back of my mind. Everyone there is so wonderful. They are all great ladies and gentlemen. Others have said it in these reviews, they treat you like family, and really care about their customers. All the instructors care about the kids learning and advancing within the ranks of Taekwondo. I really recommend this place if you live in the Valley and are thinking about putting your child or children in Taekwondo. My son loves it, and has a great time each and every week. We started late in the year, and the coaches worked extra hard with him so he was ready for this first belt test in November, he passed and is now more excited than ever about it. They recently added anti-bullying classes as part of the classes, where once a week the kids learn different ways to avoid bullies or recognize bulling behavior. It's a real nice addition to an already stellar set of classes teaching the fundamentals of Taekwondo. They know how to run a small business and care about the community.
