I am so glad I found this place for my daughter. Although the location is in a sketchy area (then again, that's describing the state of the city nowadays), I'm willing to brave the short trek from my car to the studio. And that says a lot coming from my snooty a$$). Once inside, it's class time for her and me. I'm on the sidelines taking notes on the instructors' interactions with the kids and who knows? Maybe my kid will benefit from a mom who gains better parenting skills. All of the instructors there are so good with children of all ages. Even the other students assisting the instructors have more patience with the kiddos than a lot of grownups I know. Myself included. I'm seriously overhyping this Tang Soo Do/Krav Maga school. But I wouldn't do it if I thought any less of the place and the environment I want for my daughter. read more

Hello, I'm a believer in "if you don't have anything nice to say don't say anything at all" but I don't want what happened to me to happen to the next person. After a year long contract, they kept charging my credit card. I even talked to them about it. Be ware and look for charges and fight for what is right. During this time of pandemic, you quickly learn which companies and businesses have their clients' best interests at heart, and this place is definitely NOT one of those. When classes transitioned online due to COVID, I was all for it and looking forward to taking lessons at home. After attending multiple sessions, I soon realized that most of the classes they were advertising as KRAV MAGA were actually for different Martial Art forms, and none of them were geared towards my beginner level. After being convinced to put my contract on hold when I originally wanted to cancel it (which is well within my own rights), I was still charged for a month's worth of classes that I did not take. Now, I am getting the runaround from the studio and from Member Solutions (the company they make you sign a contract with for billing purposes), and I am being charged almost $50 more for something that should not have been charged in the first place. Of course, it has always taken America's Best at least a week or two to ever get back to me if they even reply at all (which sometimes they don't), and now I have been waiting almost another week for them to acknowledge my emails; so, to put it plainly, if you plan to attend classes here, you can expect these things: 1. Be prepared to wait weeks for a response regarding class schedule or your account status. 2. Know that you will be required to sign a contract with a company that does not have your best interests in mind and gives every possible protection to the studio, but will take away your rights. (Never ask for a manager, the people at Member Solutions won't allow you to speak to one). 3. These people will charge you for classes you did not take (even after placing your account on hold). Please note that I originally was not going to post this - especially because I have made some friends that I really value, and I respect the adult KRAV MAGA instructor, Paul - however, this needs to be heard. This place is definitely not "America's Best," and I hope this review helps you find one that is. read more

This is an amazing place, where all instructors are knowledgeable and accommodating. They care not just about their students but also about the community. They teach kids respect, discipline, self-defense, leadership, all the best that martial arts can offer. The studio also offers a great work out class for parents while kids take their class. Although the teachers are knowledgeable and friendly, whoever is running the studio should open the doors when they're open! I came here for the morning class and the doors were locked and I can see people inside training. I'm definitely not returning here, if your studio says you're open at 9am, then open your doors at 9am. read more

They really do live up to their name: America's BEST! From the top down, the Grand Master & the entire staff are caring, dedicated and totally engaged in their craft. I'm continually impressed by this studio, and for the number of students they have, the fact that they really do know each student individually says a lot about how serious they are about molding our kids & young adults into the best people, not just martial artists, but shaping the whole individual! Love it here ... and when you spend as much time at a place as we do (my son is currently in the junior division in the black belt club) you better enjoy the facility and the people. I will start of by saying this, this studio has an amazing staff, very knowledgeable in the diffrent styles that they teach. In 2013 i walked in to this studio looking to learn a new skill, and get some exersize. I walked out of there sensing that everyone there was close like family. I tried the classes for a month and in that time i met G.M. Cox, at first i was a little intimidated by him because he is a little loud, and can be scary. I introduced myself to him and we started talking and he told me about the studio, the staff and all the experience that they have. That is what got me to sign up. Over the years i got to know G.M Cox and if i ever had a question about my studies or life in general he would take time out of his day to talk to me and help guide me. This man is a great mentor, role model, and great friend. I am proud to be part of this family and one of his Black belts. With all my training at this studio, from all the instuctors, and real life scenarios that they teach i feel i can protect myself and my family better because of it, and it is all becuase of G.M Cox making it possible. read more

This place was a second home for us. We spent 7 years at this studio and it definitely felt like family. The instructors truly cared about my son, and were a support for our family. Some studios just go through the motions. Master Cox and the other instructors want to make sure your child is truly prepared and can defend themselves. They help with your child's confidence and social skills. Children learn how to be respectful and good citizens; and that's a value so many children are missing nowadays. I don't think it's a biased review but I will tell you I think the world of this place. My son started taking lessons as a Little Dragon ( ages 3-6 ). He was 4. He was a super shy kid. As he made his way through Little Dragons he grew more and more confident. After a year, he had graduated Little Dragons and was beginning as a Junior. In the next 2+ years, he worked so hard to become a Black Belt. While the journey was challenging, as it should be, he was transforming into a beaming, confident young man. They will tell you that in martial arts the journey is more important than the destination and it is true. Along the way, he was pushed mentally and physically, and became a better person for it. I promise that if your child has listening or attention issues, that those will improve with martial arts. The instructors are great about relating any lessons to the real world. I haven't been in any other karate studios so I can't compare Chatsworth Karate in certain areas. I can't tell you if it's pricier or if the studio is dirtier or cleaner. I can tell you this - Mr. Cox and his instructors care about the kids. Every instructor is a volunteer - they teach because they want to give back. And it shows. The families that take their children there become an extended family over the years. But most importantly your child will learn to defend himself. You will feel better knowing that they stress self-defense at this studio. Another thing that is stressed is fighting - Your child will learn how to fight. It sounds daunting but all lessons are controlled. I've never seen a child hurt when sparring. But it's reassuring to know that if someone tried to bully your kid that they could take care of themselves because they learned how to properly fight at Chatsworth Karate. And the first class is always free so there is no excuse for not giving it a try! read more

I brought my three year old son for the trial "Little Dragons" class and I was impressed. After the initial class I was allowed to bring him two more times, just to see if he would be able to keep up with the other kids, who looked like they were between four and seven years old. The instructor, Ken was his name I believe, was firm with the kids. He shows a patience which is sometimes surprising, given how many children he has in his class. If he sees anyone struggling, in particular, he will take a small group aside and work with them individually. This is when the class is at its best. Ken has the ability to be warm but intimidating, at the same time. Of course, he has help with his group of tiny children, in the form of teenage girls. He can have about four girls helping per class, but there are about seven of them altogether and they rotate throughout the week. This is where I notice things start to get out of hand. When working with Ken, the children are on point, training their little hearts out. On the other hand, working with the girls is very inconsistent. One or two of them are on par with Ken, while the others seem to allow the kids to get distracted and stop practicing altogether. I understand these are children and distractions occur to the best of us, but the classes are only 30-45 minutes 3 times a week. One of the primary reasons I brought my boy was so that he would start to develop discipline. The issue may be with me, but the girls could have been a bit tougher on the kids and less motherly, like Ken. This wasn't always an issue, but I got fed up when Ken started to be in our class less and left it up completely to the girls. Not much seemed to be happening these days. The reason Ken wouldn't be able to lead our class was because he also helped the older, middle-school aged kids, who for some reason were having a class at the same time, in the next room. Maybe Ken shouldn't have been running two classes at the same time? The billing company is a whole other issue... The monthly fee was set up to be drafted from my checking account on a monthly basis. When you first sign up you commit to a six-month contract. Everything was fine, until it came time to cancel. I called America's Best and asked that they cancel my membership. I was informed that I had to call the billing company. Why?! I set my payment up in the karate studio, they should be able to cancel it in the same place. I called the billing company and was placed on hold... for a long time. When someone finally answered I was informed "Yes, it looks like you are eligible to cancel" but I had to FAX my request to them and it was going to take thirty days to process, so the upcoming payment, which was scheduled in 10 days, was still going to be pulled from my account. I pressed the issue but was told that there was absolutely no way to cancel my payment over the phone. This seems absurd. It's 2013. My payment was set up with my debit card, through an iPhone and I need to FAX something?! I've never even SEEN a fax machine. Anyway, the only way this relates to America's Best is that this is the company they chose to work with. If you have an older child, who won't be in the "Little Dragons" class, this place seems to have a great program, but parents of smaller children might want to look elsewhere. read more

I would like to respond to the April J review. I am a father of two boys that have been taking Karate for for over 8 years. This woman April J states that her children are well behaved, disciplined and talented and that this studio helped form them but feels the need to bad mouth the Master who helped them become whom they are. The person you are calling names on social media is probably the same person that you would go to if you have a problem with your kids. The man who you are talking about is the same man that would take your kid in if you kicked him or her out of the house. The man you speak of is the type of man who has taught our kids to respect their parents and teachers. The same man that you bad mouth is the person who drives around all night when one of his students is missing and her parents are desperate to find her. The man that I know is the one that gives pizza to the homeless veterans and a shirt and money to the homeless woman around the corner. The man that you bad mouth is the man that I feel privileged to have mentoring my kids and teaching them to be the best that they can be. read more
