This review is for the indoor pool only. I am the type of person whom Jim Gaffigan would kill. Because no matter what I get up at 5am daily and go swimming religiously. And don't give me wrong I do love McDonald's too. Lol! Despite there has been often lifeguard stability issue, the indoor pool has been providing much pleasure and benefits for me and countless others. The water quality and temperature have been maintained very well at most of the times. If they occasionally fall short, the management would adjust soon as they get emails or verbal messages from members. Yes, I have to admit we are a bunch of pool snubs. Lol! Thank you the management team for spoiling us. Even during the Covid time, you tried very hard to keep the faculty, all classes and pool functioning fairly smoothly. I heart my YMCA. I am a big fan of YMCA Glen Cove. The staff are friendly, spacious grounds are beautiful and both indoor and outdoor facilities are very clean. The main building has a big gymnasium, fitness classrooms and a lounge area. While downstairs you'll find a large heated indoor swimming pool along with separate cardio, weight training and cycling rooms for members. They have all sorts of swim, fitness and personal training services available. Child watch is also available from 10-12pm and then again from 5-7pm for us parents who need to get to the gym. This membership included service is so convenient, fun for the kids and makes it so easy to stay fit. The outdoor pool facility is also very nice during the summer and since the grounds are big & beautiful, it feels like you're relaxing at a country club. There is also a big playground for the kids with tables & benches if you ever want to bring lunch and let the little ones get some exercise. I never have never written a review and this will be my first one and unfortunately it's not a good one. I went to this location at 7:30pm on Wednesday 1/29/2020. I went with my boyfriend who has been a member for years now. I wanted to sign up because I've never been. The woman at the front desk was extremely nasty & had an awful attitude. She made nasty remarks, gave dirty looks & wouldn't tell us any promotions they had going on. She was no help what so ever and did not want to sign me up for whatever reason. Not only did they lose what would've been a new member but they lost my boyfriend as well. Highly DO NOT recommend this gym. read more

Place is nice and staff is usually helpful. Many clowns who think it is cool to drop the weight bars after a lift rather than place it on the ground. Most gyms do not allow that kind of obnoxious behavior. The staff should not allow that lack of respect to other members. read more

I just started going to this gym. Let me say this the fitness classes are great. They just started with Les Mills Body Pump classes. If you are intimidated by working in the weight room this class is for you. You work with a barbell the entire class, you can adjust the weights. 800 reps per class. 12 songs, 5 min each, each song working a different body part. I suggest this for anyone who wants to tone up quick. As we all know lifting weights is essential in any weight loss or toning regime, this is fantastic way to get it all in. Great class. read more

They will not let the parents watch their children during swim lessons. Not from the bleechers, not from the cardio room, nothing. That, plus a strict no camera rule sure makes it look like they've got something to hide. Facilities are outdated and in desparate need of maintenance. Outdoor pool and kid area is understaffed and often closed to members. Cardio room needs ventilation and fans (plural, not one.) Sketchy, rude, inconsiderate, irresponsible staff members and camp counselors. Save your money. Stay away. read more

My family has been members of the Glen Cove YMCA on and off for about 10 years. We started out as full family members but have dropped down to just program members for their swimming program. All four of my children have taken swimming lessons there - my daughters started as infants and my boys when they were in preschool. The swimming instructors are excellent. They have a lot of patience with the children and they make learning fun. Both my boys were able to pass the swimming test at our pool club at 4 years old. We have friends who are 8 and still can't pass the test! While the instruction is great, the facilities such as the locker room and showers are very old and dated, some of the shower heads no longer work or work properly. So if you are looking for nice fancy facilities, this is not the place for you. But if you are looking for a bare basics club, this is the place. read more

Used to be a member of fancy Equinox in NYC over 10 years ago and I paid a premium for a club that was not welcoming to children and provided unlimited towels. Big deal, bring your own towel if you want to swim at the Glen Cove Y amazing pool. Gym has been recently upgraded with modern equipment and there is a generous supply of older individuals who are friendly and who join you in what a gym should be - a workout space that is a great place to feel that you've spent a worthwhile hour to exercise. I love this gym. My only recommendation would be to get 1 or 2 highly trained individuals to whom one could go for advice or rely on for training. You can come in, not feel like you need to chat and have a great workout! read more

Great programs but locker room is so outdated. Gyms that charge far less offer basic amenities like hair dryers which are non existent at this ymca. Recently went there for a swim class and the pool was FREEZING. So cold that I couldn't get in. On my way out I told the front desk who apologized and said that the pool was broken and that they ordered a part which would be in the following day. They added that it had been broken for the three days prior. They should have alerted me and the others in the class before went attempted to get in. Very disappointing. read more

While the facilities in the YMCA are beautiful, I worry about their programs for children. I worked at their Kiddie Camp and I observed many troubling behaviors from counselors and other staff. When I brought an incident to the directors attention, they did not take it seriously. Children were eating crumbs off if a classroom floor. A child fell asleep and the counselors took him and started playing with him and taking pictures of him. The children deserve more than the counselors were willing to give them. For example, at activities (art, sports court, field, etc.) There weren't any instructors. The counselors threw paper and pencils at the children and told them to color while they were on their phones in a different area. These children were 3, 4, and 5 years old. The counselors did not sit with them at activities or lunch, they let them run free, and when it was time to clean up they screamed at them. When I brought this to the supervisors attention, she simply asked the counselors what was going on and they denied it. There is also nazi graffiti on the camp bathroom that has been there for at least one week that again, after telling the camp about, nothing was done to take it off. There are many other valuable camps in this area and all over long island. I do not plan on going back there and I advise against sending your children there. read more

Be careful with this place. They not only give you false information BUT also false promises. We moved from NYC to Long Island recently. We wanted to register our daughter for swimming class. We thought the Long Island Policy is the same policy as NYC YMCAs. The front desk was not about register us and told us we can do it online, and so we did...as instructed. We did not want to waste time since our daughter hasn't been swimming for nearly 4 months. My husband took her to YMCA and guess what? They asked us to not only pay our membership fee but also every time we come in we would need to pay $5 for my daughter and $15 fee to supervise her. My husband was shocked but the desk said this payment needs to be made even if my husband doesnt use the facility and just "watch my daughter swim." FYI - their policy is to have someone "in" the water supervising your child under a certain age. After I filed a complaint against them, Katie Vitale called me and stated they never charged us the $15 fee (for supervision) because we were not suppose to if the adult is not using the facility!!! Glad she was onboard with but shockingly her staff doesnt know the rule?!?! I told my husband about that and he said that was full of sh*t because he has an actual receipt and credit card statement for the $15 plus $5 charge!!!! Someone is lying?!?! Or maybe someone doesnt realize nowadays certain credit companies like the one we have get immediate statment of purhases as soon as we charge (within minutes). Not only did the front desk did not allow my husband to get a full refund when requested, the person did say we can get a refund anytime whether it would be a full refund or a prorated one. Katie Vitale also called us as stated we would get refund if we are no longer interested. She said she would date of the membership to jan 1st 2017 she she will give us a free trial effective immediately. After further discussion with my husband and I we just feel getting the refund would be most appropriate as your first impression would be your last. This place placed a bad taste in our mouth. We contacted Katie Vitale for a refund and cc'd Peter Foster, and for over 1 week we have no heard anything from anyone. Some kind of professional management at this place, eh?!?!
