The course? It's beautiful. Ocean views, solid layout, decent greens. No complaints there…read more But let's not pretend it's worth what they're charging. The Royal is overpriced. The Kai--par 70--same story. You're paying premium prices for a product that doesn't match it. And the bigger issue? The people. Inside staff--especially the older guy with glasses--complete super dick . Outside staff? Disengaged. Zero energy. Zero effort. Like they're doing you a favor just by being there. Only bright spots were the starter and the guy in the shack--everyone else looked like they checked out a long time ago. And that's the theme: they don't care. Cart service ran out of cups... came back later... still out of cups. That's not a mistake--that's a system that doesn't prioritize the customer. Look, it's Maui. The place sells itself. They know it. And because of that, they don't feel pressure to deliver anything beyond the basics. If you want real value? Go play the municipal course on the other side of the island--the one locals compare to Pebble Beach. Or better yet, play the Dunes. That's where the experience actually matches the expectation. Bottom line: incredible setting, average execution, and a complete miss on service. They'll keep making money. But if you care about how you're treated? This isn't it.

Now I know the real reason the PGA pulled the event this year. They are INSANE for charging the rate of $475 starting on June 1. The greens will take a year to recover. They'll need to punch ( large Tyne and small Tyne ) multiple times this year to get rid of the damage caused by fungus. I was disappointed at the cost of $300. I'd be pissed if a paid $475.

In spite of the input, we were given a booklet with a "one size fits all" foundation, with step by step program designed to rebuild one's swing from the ground up... precisely opposite of what was requested! Our instructor kept referring to various tour pros (Tiger Wood, Ernie Els, etc) and their swings. Clearly, as a senior citizen, it would be impossible to replicate any part of their game. The academy resulted in zero improvement in the short or long term, and only served to create frustration and injury.
