I played here on May 17th, 2026. I got the " aerification " rate of $300. The course was a fun layout. However, the greens have been hit hard by a fungus in the last year. Now I know the real reason the PGA pulled the event this year. They are INSANE for charging the rate of $475 starting on June 1. The greens will take a year to recover. They'll need to punch ( large Tyne and small Tyne ) multiple times this year to get rid of the damage caused by fungus. I was disappointed at the cost of $300. I'd be pissed if a paid $475. read more

Whereas not a bucket list item, I have wanted to play this course for a while. The layout is beautiful and the course is playable (just not very well by yours truly). The overall experience though is lacking for the price. Yes, ok, I get it, spend the money and play this once, but you will get a much more rounded experience at some of the other really nice courses on Maui. read more

Do NOT buy anything on discount. I spoke with the sales clerk when purchasing and said I wasn't sure I wanted to buy one of the shirts as I didn't have anything to match. He said it looked great. So I bought three and tried to return THE one which was 30% off. I tried to return it with all the tags and receipt 4 days later but the clerk said all sales are final no matter the discount. I explained my conversation with the previous clerk and asked where it said all sales are final? No where in the store does it say this. She said to look on the print on the receipt. So chicken shit. I have never had this happen. I know there are stores that will state everywhere literally that close out discount clothing are final. Will never shop here again. And for 25%?! read more

Kapalua Bay Course was the last stop of a 10-day trip and my final round of golf for the vacation. Part of this review reflects comparisons to other courses I played prior. Overall, I'd give it a solid 3.5 to 4 stars. The good: The topography and landscape reminded me of California - tall pine or redwood-type trees, a unique microclimate, and occasional overcast or windy patches that shift to sun throughout the day. It gave off Northern California vibes, which was different from other Hawaiian courses I played - definitely a positive. The layout of the holes was also a highlight. Lots of blind shots, doglegs, and elevation changes made for a fun, challenging round. One hole (I believe hole 12 or 13) features a split fairway with a ravine in the middle - just one example of the thoughtful design. I also liked that a couple of par 5s are back-to-back (hole 8 and 9), plus hole 18 is another par 5 - good chances to birdie and make up strokes. The driving range is great - wide open, a little windy, but you get unlimited balls, which was a plus. Of course, the crown jewel is hole 17 - a stunning par 3 over the water. When we played, the tees were moved forward, so it wasn't the full shot over the ocean, but I'd love to play it from the back tees someday. Hole 16 also stands out: a dogleg left with your second shot framed by ocean views. Both holes are beautiful and great for photos. These aspects help justify the high green fee - around $280 - but at that price, I still expected a few things to be better. Room for improvement: The greens. This was not the only Hawaiian course with this issue, but they looked like they were under repair--patchy and sandy in spots. Not terrible, but far from the carpet-like condition you'd hope for at this price point. Staff interaction was mixed. I spoke with about five or six people; two or three were friendly - especially the woman in the snack shop and the man who loaded our golf bags. The others weren't rude, but they didn't exactly seem happy to see you, which takes away from the premium experience. As for the pace of play, it was okay. We had a twosome behind us as we played in a foursome, and they started pressuring us. We let them play through, but then another twosome followed, so again we had to pause. Eventually, a foursome came behind them. I think the starter could've paired the twosomes together to reduce the pressure and smooth out the flow. We didn't have to wait, but we were definitely being pushed. Final note: I'd absolutely play this course again. I enjoyed the round and shot my best score of the summer - which says something about the course's playability. That said, I think a fair green fee would be somewhere around $200-$225. It's a great course with memorable views, but at nearly $300, it's pushing it. read more

What was once a fun resort course that was well taken care of, is now a dead wasteland. These photos say it all and they're still charging full price. Unbelievable. Updating my review. I bought an expensive hat for fifty dollars which had rhinestones on it. I had looked at this hat for more than five years and finally gave in and bought it. I have shopped at this store since it first opened probably more than 20 years and they all know me there as I go in often to buy things and shop. A couple days after buying this hat I noticed the band of rhinestones was coming off and also the single rhinestones on the top as well. This should not have happened in a couple days of wearing it to walk , no swimming or hot tub or ocean just walking for a couple days with it on my head. I took it back and the man Andrew was very rude to me. He said it was used so too bad. I tried to show him the receipt which says I had just bought it and that refunds and returns in 60 days! he refused to even look at it and told me to come back next day when I asked when manager was there. I came back next day and she was not. spoke to another woman I know and she said to leave it and manager would call me Sunday. no call Sunday so called her and left three messages before she rudely called back. She insisted the hat was too well worn to return or even give me a store credit! she claimed it had make up on it which I do not wear and that I had worn it in ocean or hot tub . I kept saying it was either defective or had been used and returned and resold! Celeste the manager was horrid to me and so rude and refused to listen or do anything about her defective merchandise! She sent me an email stating that I was no longer welcome in the store! as if I would ever go back in there again and buy any of that overpriced crap ! For a store that deals with higher end customers they need to learn customer service! read more

Just played the Bay course in May 2025. The course is a bit hilly, but I enjoyed the layout and the scenery. Pace of play and the practice range was good. I think the course will be shut down this year to start the teardown and redesign of all 18 holes. if you can play before they close, I would highly recommend. The pro shop was very courteous but not to informative. Keep in mind the wind in Kapalua is outrageous but fun to play in. read more

Love this course. Definitely will give one a challenge with the rolling hills and difficult grasses. I played the resort tees -- and they were just long enough for challenge but not insane. Bay course... Disappointing, very rude, very condescending, discriminatory and dishonest... himakamaka! They offer Kamaʻaina, unfortunately at the expense of Aloha! If you're not paying the very overpriced , over -gouged tourist price, i'm not sure they even consider you a customer, i sensed that from the second minute into the phone call to book tee times. At no point was i spoken too or treated as a customer. Honestly for the big bucks they charge and for the way they treat you... not worth the one "signature hole" they have. As far as the bay course... honestly there are better courses on Maui that treat every one equally, less himakamaka, more worth the money and an all around great experience! read more

Played the Bay Course last week. No advisory before taking my money and sending us to the first tee. The course is dead. All grass brown and dead as a doornail. Whatever. But it's fraud to take someone's money and fail to disclose the absence of water and a dead course. When greens are punched, they advise you and give a reduced rate. Not Kapalua. A beautiful course just like you see on TV. It is definitely a must when you're a golfer and in Maui. $485 for a round per person at the plantation course. Totally Worth it. The greens are maintained nicely and the course is very challenging. Not for a beginner or someone who just want to try playing golf for the first time. The pro shop staff were nice and helpful. Played the Bay course. Last time I played it in 1992......boy have things changed. Like a muni. Staff was friendly. Range was torn up, not much grass. I could not believe the horrible condition. Grass was in poor shape and greens were grainy and uneven. Very disappointed, as we played Wailea Gold the day before and it was like playing Pebble Beach and a muni in Muncie Indiana. $200 for a round and the locals bragged they payed $50. Felt we got a bad deal. Could not believe the horrible conditions. The views were good but not anywhere near the Wailea Gold course. Would not go back. Only reason I gave it 2 stars is the amazing Philippino guy who worked downstairs in the caddy area. Very nice. No real water or amenities on the course . Very disappointed. read more

What a magnificent setting for a golf course! The pro shop is well stocked with all kinds of choices for men and women.. hats, shirts, women's fashion apparel, and golf equipment. Staff in the shop and at the carts was friendly and welcoming. Be sure to pick up Kapalua tees and ball markers before you go to the range. Every golf hole is a picture! The fairways and greens were well kept. We played in the morning, hoping the wind would be calmer, but by the back nine, the wind was howling. Not sure you can do anything about that but enjoy it and bring lots of balls! The restaurant across from the pro shop is a great place to finish up with a sandwich and a beer! read more

Called to inquire about junior rates. Was told each minor MUST have identification proving their age. We golf regularly and have never been asked to confirm my kids are kids. Lady who answered the phone was frankly rude from the beginning. Said, "well here on Maui our kids have permits." Well, we are not local - and, no, not all minors actually get their drivers licenses as teens. We have never traveled with kids' passports - unless internationally. And neither of my kids have started driving. No US airport requires minor identification! This course, which charges $299 for juniors at Plantation has completely unreasonable expectations. AVOID. I've played Kapalua a few times but will not come back. read more

I quietly mentioned this to the golf shop pros and the manager was just defensive and said not sure I can figure out who it was but we'll try. Not helpful and not a classy establishment. Played Bay and Plantation. Have to say I was disappointed with the conditions. I get aeration. I live with it all summer in Seattle, but there were so many uneven greens. Overall the treatment at Plantation was much better. Attentive staff and good guidance on the course. Day 2 at Bay was like a muni. No amenities and just a patchwork course that had you chasing signs. Of course the views were beautiful, but aren't they all on the island? Wish I had spread out my golf and tried another company...oh well. I still played golf in paradise for a weekend. read more

Although this Kapalua Bay Golf course is pricy, it is the best manicured and staffed venue on Maui. 15 months ago they moved the Bay Course check in back to the original Village Course check in next to Taverna Restaurant. The Pineapple Grill is now closed. Tennis courts are still open. Therefore, the Bay Course layout numerical sequence has been adjusted appropriately. The greens are very well kept and pretty true to roll. Play Black back tees for champion length or further up for Silver Resort high handicapper, like me. read more

Our round at Kapalua is one of my all-time favorite golfing memories. It's up there with bucket-list courses like the Old Course at St. Andrews and Pebble Beach. In several ways, I enjoyed our round at Kapalua more than I did our round at Pebble. The ocean and island views were just incredible. This is such a beautiful place. Truly paradise. My dad and I played the Plantation Course before the 2019 renovation, on a Monday in early August. We rode and were paired up with another father-son duo, from Southern California. We didn't have caddies, but that was okay. The father in the other group had played this course before and gave us some tips. I parred the first hole out the gate. We played from the "Resort" (white) tees where the course measures 6,019 yards with a 71.5/132 rating/slope, par 73. It was challenging and the wind didn't help. Currently, this is the only par-73 course on the PGA Tour. The Plantation Course has hosted the Tournament of Champions since 1999. The course opened in 1991 and was co-designed by Ben Crenshaw, who also took part in the 2019 refresh. From the "Championship" (black) tees, the course comes in at a whopping 7,411 yards with a 77.2/144 rating/slope. I ended up shooting a 102 (+29) which I was okay with given my skill level, the difficulty of the course, and it was my first time playing it. Kapalua is situated on the northwest coast of Maui. Most of the Plantation Course holes have views of the Hawaiian island of Moloka'i. In general, the course is gently hilly and undulating with plenty of elevation changes. You have to hit a lot of uphill and downhill shots. The layout feels "wide open" in that fairways are wide and accepting. You can really smash some tee shots out here, particularly on the final two holes. The 17th is a downhill par-4 that makes almost a 90-degree turn to the left on the approach. The 18th is a long, downward-sloping, dogleg-left par-5. My favorite hole was No. 11, a downhill par-3 with an amazing view of the Pacific Ocean and Moloka'i. The uphill holes can be a grind. Club up. If it's your first time playing this course, consider playing one set of tees forward than you normally do. Save your ego for another track. From tee to green, the course was in outstanding shape. It was in better condition than the Gold Course at Wailea which we had just played the day prior. Wailea was in great shape too; Kapalua was even better. The greens are big and the day we played, they rolled fast and true. Kapalua's greens were noticeably faster than Wailea's. There are two courses at Kapalua, this one and the Bay Course. The clubhouse is spacious and beautiful. Inside, they have the Tournament of Champions trophy on display as well as other tournament-related exhibits. The golf carts are outfitted with GPS for both courses. Wear plenty of sunscreen and remember to reapply. I'm good about sun protection and even I got burned on this course (very rare occurrence). The UV rays are stronger and more intense in Hawaii due to its proximity to the equator. "Kapa lua" in Hawaiian means "two borders." A looser translation is "arms embracing the sea." I'd love to come back and play this course again some day. read more

Decent course and good view. The starter Bob has no emotional intelligence and social awareness. He should not be the face of the organization on the first tee. He ruined our round/day with his insulting comments he made on the first hole. The starter should obviously be customer service oriented and know how to communicate with guest. Bob should NOT be customer facing. Michael Castillo the pro on the course was patronizing in his attempt to hear our concern and argumentative while acting like we were inconveniencing him. Worst customer service ever. Bob and Michael should not work with the general public. read more

My wife and I feel very fortunate to have played both the Kapalua Bay Course and Kapalua's heralded Plantation Course during our recent stay on Maui. Without question, these two rounds of golf were the most scenic and enjoyable 5-Star rounds of our lives. That is saying something considering we've played some spectacular golf all over the world including the Old Course at St. Andrews, Scotland. Kapalua's courses provide almost countless dramatic elevation changes which in turn offer unparalleled views of the Pacific Ocean and other Hawaiian Islands across the water. The Plantation Course (with its unique Par 73 and a whopping 7,596 yards from the championship tees) hosts the annual professional Tournament of Champions each January. In order to qualify for the tourney, the pros must have won at least one professional event event during the past year. Both Kapalua courses are located on the remote and mountainous North Shore of Maui and can therefore experience high winds off the ocean. We had fun battling strong winds consistently during both rounds. Kapalua stands as one of the the most scenic golf experiences you'll likely ever encounter. We will definitely be back again to test our games on the North Shore of Maui. read more

Lives up to the reputation. The Plantation Course at Kapalua is one of the PGA Tour's legendary venues, and it's truly a bucket list course for most people to play. It's pretty cool to go and experience the same place that has been the venue for so many legendary moments in golf. The layout is great, the design is interesting and extremely challenging. The wind, slope, greens, all add to the fun. The service at Kapalua is second to none. All of the staff we encountered were courteous and friendly and treat you like royalty. Make sure to go check out the locker room and see the photos of past Champions. Can't wait to play here again soon. read more

Aloha! The Plantation Course is in amazing condition and the views are hard to beat. HOWEVER...it's highly overrated in terms of value for the money. For the $$$$ the course charges per round, it was disappointing that the club drop was not accurately labeled (therefore our clubs didn't make it onto our carts in a timely manner), there was no one to greet us at the front, the proshop failed to tell us when we checked in that they would be closed by the time we finished (would have liked to buy a hat!), the cart barn staff was only minimally helpful. And the starter...he did allow us as a twosome to go out ahead of a late foursome (thanks!), but he was unfriendly otherwise. Skip it, and play the Wailea Courses - which are also in great condition (and great value) and the staff are overwhelmingly friendly. read more

The Bay Course is one of my favorite golf courses. From the friendly and efficient staff to the beautiful views and a well maintained course. I play early in the morning to avoid the heat and potential slow play. The women's tee boxes could be in a bit better shape and I'd love par 4's to be no longer than 300 yds but neither of these are really significant issues. I always purchase one of the specials that allows you to play 3 days within a 7 day period, full use of the range and putting greens, and a 30 minute lesson. Although the course is expensive in my book it is well worth the cost. Enjoy! read more

The staff was exceptional. Custom bag tag on arrival was a nice touch. The course on the other hand needs some love. supremely dry, brown patches from "repair" were everywhere and the greens were like velcro that had sand in it. nothing can stop the views it's incredible but for $200 the course should be in much better shape. 18 was a weird finishing hole after such dramatic views on the 2 previous holes and the rest of the course. read more

Even with the beautiful scenery, the slow pace and lack of service made it a poor experience. Probably won't come back given this was the second time in a row this has happened. Got stuck behind a slow 4some that was loud and didn't have any golf etiquette. The Marshall came up to us multIple times to apologize but never once asked the group to speed up or let us pass. Even wHen we asked the Marshall to speed them up he refused and said he didn't want to offend them because they were resort guests. Ended up being a 6 hour round with a wait on every single hole. Will try other courses next time I am in town. read more

Negative star!! Don't get me wrong the Bay course is beautiful, but is it worth the money? Not a single non-resident will say yes. Have my family visiting and they both paid 300+. On the 8th hole we had to wait 6 minutes for sprinklers to cross our tee box only to get the rangers yelling at us about being behind. We let 4 groups pass us to try to enjoy each other's company and take once in a lifetime pics. Work in a resort down the street and hate that I actually bring business to a very non deserving place. Keep ripping ppl off and pushing the pace relying on the view while everyone else spots the horrible customer service! read more

I was on vacation there 3 weeks ago and played the Bay Course. I mistakenly left a 60 degree wedge and discovered that 2 days later when I was already home. I called and verified they had the wedge there and would mail it to me. Took my address and told me it would be mailed ASAP. In the time since, it has not arrived and when I call them back, they claim it was not there and never was. I have also left several messages that never go answered. Its a shame cause I loved the course and I know it was my fault for leaving it but don't claim to be mailing it and then change all that and further deny it was there. read more
