Came here for a restorative class when I was in town, and loved the high ceilings and sunny vibes! Drop in classes are unbelievably reasonable at $13 and the staff is super friendly. Looks like they have some good deals for mat classes and the parking here is simple. Will definitely come back next time I'm in town! read more

Loved my experience here. Scott is a magical expert in body movement and instruction and from I hear everyone there is dedicated and educated in the same way. I took a 5:30-7pm class that was the perfect pace to focus on strength and flexibility. It's a gorgeous open space also. read more

I take the Yin class with Anne Witmer. She is absolutely fantastic, and is the best yoga teacher I've ever had. The studio is big and clean, however it would be nice for it to have more community events and things with the other classes. read more

I love this studio because of the large spacious windows that can open!! Huge plus! I love the relaxing interior that is clean, and the laid back attitude. A huge bonus that really makes me love the place~ is the one hour and a half long classes. I love the afternoon classes!!! I LOVE getting deep into the practice. Certain yoga instructors use to come while we are in savasana and give "mini neck rubs" to help you relax but i think those teacher have left. :( Please do more!!!!! Most of the teacher are relaxed and in the flow, as how yoga should be! The owner Scott is nice too , and I'd taken some of his classes. I really wish they had more Ashtanga/power yoga here. * UPDATED: *** I only found one teacher recently and had a very awkward encounter. I wish I could go back but the teacher made it very clear I wasn't welcome..... The odd thing was when I was paying for class I told the teacher that I crack the window, and I have a heat sensitivity, I get flushed and a face rash, so I sit right in front of it. This seemed to upset her, as she said immediately, "In my classes we don't crack windows we keep them closed!" Um..Ok...I told her that in my file it says I have a heat sensitivity. She said she was going to turn up the heat to 80, --it was already very warm at 76 degrees. I asked if it was a hot yoga type class as it wasn't listed, and yes I know hot yoga keeps room over 95... Lindsey Holy proceeded to lecture me on what hot yoga was. Anyways, she kept saying she was turning up the heat and no windows. She seemed very upset that I had a different need. I told her "Well then, you better refund me , it sounds like I can't be in your class as I'm pitta and need some air." I was getting flushed from the warmth of the room already. She said "I can feel your pitta from here". Ok um wow, that was kind of mean. I can't help that I have heat sensitivities. I am also a Graduate student and study all the time, I really needed the class . I felt put down, by her rudeness. I said to Lindsey, "You should really mentions the heat and list that in class description. I'd driven a long ways to get here". Then I just started packing up to go home. I guess she felt she was being too rough or something ..or that she would get in trouble?? Not sure, as she said, "Just take the class for free and you can open the window "this time". I looked at her and asked, "Are you sure, I'm happy to pay!" She started to warn me that is was a vigorous class. I love those! I just need some air in hot rooms. Too bad she was so rigid, because it was a strong lead class. :( Made me sad, that is not what yoga is about. All that trouble over me cracking a window?? I'm not sure I am going back there, unless my favorite teacher is there. Don't need to be shamed, for asking for a need... in yoga class. But I do "love the studio" when a awesome teacher is leading the class. read more

I love the energy in this studio. It was the first studio I visited in Portland, and it is still my favorite. I am trying to force myself to expand, experience other studios while I am still new here, but I am aching to go back! Denise is an amazing instructor, so motivating and inspiring. My jaw drops at the moves she puts us in, and I love the challenge! This morning I attended my third ever 90 minute Vinyasa class. Kimmie is the instructor's name and she is fantastic. Welcoming to everyone from the start - gives instructions to beginners and advanced and has a peaceful and strong voice that I find myself really responding to in a positive way. The space is nice and open and I love the view out the big windows. It's right upstairs from Boke Bowl and I'm just glad my class is over before they open because I would probably be gettin' my steamed buns some steam buns! Ok. Seriously though I really like this place and I believe the tone is set by the instructor and the fellow yogis so I will update if necessary after I try a different class or two. Tip: make sure you leave an extra 15 minutes to get there and set up just in case the freight trains are going by...it's easy to get "trained" in that area of town. read more

I've been to a lot of different yoga studios in both the Seattle and the Portland area and yoga bhoga is by far the friendliest, creative and intelligent yoga studio. I've been going here for the last couple of years (on a semi regular basis) and I love the variety of classes they have. I'm a huge fan of vinyasa and they have a lot of different class times to choose from, their prices are very reasonable (especially for students, like me!) and the teachers are happy to answer any questions you might have about trying new poses. I also love their space! When I first saw that it was in an office building right near the freeway I was skeptical, figuring the urban sights and sounds would be distracting, but the walls of the studio keep the noise out and the studio is high enough up that you can't see the people below. Also the cute little yoga figurines in the windows are so cute! read more

Yoga Bhoga: The Chi, Prana, Energy, Vibration, or Feeling, whatever you choose to call it, in this studio is warm, inviting, comfortable, and inspiring. True this may be in a new location then the studio that I used to frequent daily for years but the Energy moved with it and there is no denying that. I travel and am always trying out studios and few have the feeling that Yoga Bhoga has. I also love the natural light in this new studio. The teachers that I know there are all very amazing teachers, the ones I do not know I am certain are as wonderful. They all come from a wide range of backgrounds and teachers, are always continuing their education and experience in their practices making this a very special Yoga Studio. Denise, Meghan, Amy, and Heather, whom I have taken many classes with over the years all provide excellent instruction, fun sequences, with variations that make all levels of Yogi's feel comfortable with. Their energy, guidance and adjustments are always enlightening in helping one become a better practitioner. Their emphasis is on the fundamentals of The Hatha Practice, as well as the Pranayama Practice and the Meditative Aspects of the Yoga practice be it Hatha, or Vinyasa. There is definitely a passion for their practice and it comes through in their classes. Not one aspect of the Yogic practice is left out at this studio. Portland you are very fortunate to have such a space, full of positive energy and intention. My Trip to Portland was so wonderful as a result of investing my time and energy into going to Yoga Bhoga for classes. I encourage you to do the same. Om Shanti! read more

Good chi in this space. We went on a Saturday morning and the room was jammed packed. Yvonne was a decent instructor, but as some one mentioned previously, there is virtually no personalized interaction. For a first timer like me, that would be a good thing to have as well as making the instructor aware of any injuries you might be dealing with. We're doing the one week pass, so looking forward to seeing how this turns out. I've definitely felt some muscles that I haven't felt for awhile, so on that front, it was a good 90 minute session. read more

Tiffany was the most amazing yoga instructor I've ever had. Her classes were balanced, and challenging. Her teaching style was not intimidating. It was easy to be a beginner, and her modifications made simple clear sense. Tiffany is friendly, and she offered $5 classes for students. I have never enjoyed yoga so much as I did when she was my instructor. I would not practice ashtanga vinyasa yoga if it was not for her. read more

Yoga Bhoga is one of the friendliest yoga studios I've been to. I always go to Emily Light's Vinyasa class, and boy, the vibe here is so different from that of other places. In many other places the yoga practice feels stupidly competitive. Yoga Bhoga is welcoming to beginners without watering down the intensity of practice for the others. We always do a healthy mix of strength, balance and flexibility postures. Ooh, and there's a neat headstand stool for people to learn the headstand on. They do a mantra chanting at the beginning, which feels weird the first couple of times, but I just go with it now. It's a five-minute thing and is strangely calming. The studio is spacious and has nice large windows. And thankfully, there's no music during yoga practice here. I hated that at another studio. Highly recommend to anyone looking to get into yoga or just get more regular with their practice. They also have classes late in the evenings on weekdays. read more

I only could give the 4 stars at this point as I am still a novice yogi but I think Yoga Bhoga is helping me become a real yogi and set my own personal best record and soon I might be experienced enough to give the Woohoo rating. Yoga Bhoga offers really well trained, dedicated and effective instructors. The studio is simple and serene.I love looking out the windows and the skylights offer nice natural light. I feel challenged just enough and supported and inspired to keep coming back. I think that if things continue to go this well for me, I will be able to soon give it the 5 stars. I have dabbled in yoga for ten years now and this studio has helped me be the most consistent in attendance than ever before which is the first step in really having a sincere practice . read more

Rae's morning 0615-0730AM is excellent! She offers modifications for any level and is patient and kind! I grumble about waking up so early but am definitely rewarded for my efforts! I have to reiterate what previous reviewers have said already; this place is lovely, it has plenty of space, fantastic teachers, and a pleasant unpretentious atmosphere that allows you to just focus on your practice. They even have not one, but SEVERAL changing rooms! You can also store your mat there so you don't have to tote it to & from class every time. I got a new student one-week pass for $20, a great deal, and have been to 3 classes so far. My only regret is that not one of the teachers asked me my name, or more importantly, if I had any injuries they should know about at the beginning of class. Perhaps I was spoiled by my old studio in LA, but I miss that personal touch. I still plan on coming back here - the Sunday evening restorative/yin class with Jennifer is especially nice if you're looking for a mellow way to prepare yourself for the new week. read more

I admit that I'm fairly new to yoga but this place was a great experience for a beginner. The class only had 6 people total so the instructor had time to give plenty of 1 to 1 instruction. Suzanne is a great instructor and teaches the 8am class. They are very fairly priced and seem to have specials frequently. The July special was $5 for the 8am class only but I will be checking their website frequently for other deals. Very comfortable, clean, and quiet studio. read more

Wonderful experience for my first yoga class. I attended Kris Olson's Vinyasa class and was blown away by how comfortable, welcoming and rejuvenating both the class and the space were. The extra half hour really makes a difference, allowing time to both settle into the environment and practice as well as generous recovery time. Yoga Bhoga used to be in a tiny old office space downtown, but they've just moved into a gorgeous custom space in SE Portland. Yoga Bhoga is small---the instructor is also the cashier---but that's part of why it's so wonderful. The space is one big room with changing rooms, cubbies for bags, and little else. Yoga Bhoga is simple and unpretentious, and the instructors are kind and encourage experimentation. The environment is comfortable and focused on the yoga itself, with no struggle for space and no self-conscious outfits. People mill around the door before opening and chat lightly, unlike fitness clubs, it's much more of a community. There are no showers, unfortunately, but otherwise it's a great space for simple practice. read more

Soon after moving to Portland, I injured my back. Physical therapy didn't seem effective so I started looking for yoga especially for back problems ans was lucky to find one at Yoga Bhoga. It is a great class and it has made a huge difference for me. Leigh, the instructor is very knowledgable about yoga and seems to see everyone in the class and makes necessary adjustments to meet each person's needs. Many people in the class have been coming for years and credit this class for greater flexibility and strength as well as helping with back issues. Men and women of all ages and physical abilities are in the class. You can wear anything that is comfortable and have loaner mats. It is non competitive and friendly. I also love the yin and restorative yoga classes. All of the classes I have tried have been enjoyable and the instructors try to give alternatives to the poses for more advanceed and beginning students. I have tried several studios in Portland and in San Francisco. Yoga Bhoga is my favorite. They have discounts for students and seniors. There are also workshops to go into more depth. read more

I feel like yoga studios really need to be compatible with the yogi. This studio was great and so was the instructor! I liked the humble, no mirrors environment and the close proximity to downtown. Tonight was my first time attending this studio and it's already one of my favorites (along with North Portland Yoga). I took Betsy class and really liked her; She gave lots of options for poses and was able to correct my form several times. She also didn't talk too much or go too into religion or spirituality. Even though I came to class feeling sore, I felt a great deal of tension and stress relief from taking this class and was actually less sore when I left. read more

The atmosphere, the teachings are quality here. Last fall, the move was not forewarned except a week prior in class. It was to be quick and painless.Mats bering stored there were being moved as is. They would all be safely relocated we were told. I showed up at the Water location after a week and a half break, and discovered my mat was not there. The instructor and I sifted through them thouroughly. Left a note for the owner with contact info, no return so I called and and was cut off in explaination to be told that there is no way it is "gone" and this incident has happened before, and she's "not going thru that again", kind of shocked how upset she got when I am the one who got jacked. I've left at least 3 msgs, never returned so it seems to me that her even looking for it was asking too much. It's a basic dept store mat, 25$ or so and I can't afford another at the moment. Authenticity or at least compassion seems like it would go with that line of work. read more

My husband and I did the once week introductory special and went to three classes over the weekend. They have a nice space - when you get there you have to call up to be let in. The first two times we had to call several times to be buzzed up (the third time we were buzzed in on the first try). We went to the Saturday morning class, which was packed, and then to the Friday and Saturday classes at 4:30 which were much less crowded. If you are newer to yoga or looking for more adjustment you might want to consider one of the less crowded classes and request adjustment from the instructor prior to class. If you are looking for a good yoga studio in Portland I definitely recommended this one. read more

Sarah stands out because she spends time going around to every person, adjusting and challenging them with respect and attention to their body and needs. I came to Bhoga for a 30 day special. I found Bhoga to be the sweetest studio I've visited in the Portland area so far. From the chakra colored curtains to an awesome assortment of humble warriors leading all type of classes this place has it going on. But what's won me over mostly are the teachers, I have never experienced a collection of so many healers in a studio. I say this from my experience practicing in different studios all over the country. Each class I've taken here has been healing for me in some way. I believe yoga has the ability to do that for anyone at any time, but it is not often as easily accessible, I find that it needs to be a particularly safe place. The teachers at Bhoga make it possible to have that experience and that is super unique. Now I'm hooked, and my 30 days are up BUT if you haven't taken advantage of the special do so, and try out as much as you can from Friday night acroyoga to settling in for a an afternoon yin. EARLY MORNING YOGA!!! Rae teaches an awesome 616-730 AM class on mondays and wednesdays. It can be adapted for all levels. We do some really amazing things in this class. The class is small enough that Rae can work closely with each student giving hands-on adjustments and personalized instruction. I leave class feeling recharged and relaxed and ready for the day. Love it love it love it! Even the trains passing noisily by in the middle of shivasana don't rattle the peaceful vibes. Moved to Portland March 2011, found the "All you can take for 30 days for $30" deal - and now am a regular. Great variety of classes and instructors. I've found my favorites and you will too - Kimi Marin is a gem in vinyasa and Leigh Drake is an angel for Yin. I read someone's comment that the instructors don't give enough personal attention. That certainly has NOT been my experience. I feel very welcome, very much a part of the family. Oh and by the way - my body range of motion improved about 50% in three months. Only great instruction can make that happen for someone who's been yoga-ing for a few years! read more

As most, I have done the tour of yoga studios. I moved to Portland two years ago, as a yoga instructor myself. I thought as soon as I find a studio I jive with, I will look into becoming a part of that community. With SO many studios in Portland, I didnt think it would be so hard. What I found though is something like watered down soup. Because yoga studios are more common, its like putting water in the soup so there is more to go around, but it is just not as good. So, I can never rate a studio as a whole, but instead have found amazing instructors that are the sole reason I go to certain studios. Check out Lila! Her sequencing, her themes, her spiritual teaching, and her aura of joyous love are amazing, and something everyone should experience. I have been to many other classes with other instructors at this studio, and really like the nice new space it moved into, but really I go there because that is where Lila teaches. I would follow her to any studio. read more

The studio is very interesting and inviting. The teachers are very dynamic and supportive. The classes offered are a great range for all yogi's. The intro offer is brilliant and really allows you to try whatever you want from the wide range of class options and dive into a regular practice (to get a taste and see if you want to continue on). I will definitely be purchasing another package after this month. My favorites include the Yin yoga, Vinyasa classes, and Acroyoga (I had a very unpleasant experience in one of the Acroyoga classes and the owner and teacher were very supportive, contact yoga is very intense). This is my favorite place to practice in Portland. The teachers are incredible and Scott the studio manager does a really good job of creating an inviting comfortable space for practitioners of all levels. The classes are fairly priced and dharma is freely woven in through the classes. The teachers are authentic masters of asana but very humble and supportive of students. I have always felt well supported by this studio and walk out of every class alive refreshed and ready to take on the world! read more
