Currently in the midst of my free two week trial...they offer to all new students! It's pretty nice because it's unlimited meaning can go to any classes and any of the 3 locations. I'm on track to complete 17 classes during this time. All of the instructors I've practiced with have lead a nice class. Of course there may be some personal preference differences in terms of music selection or flow, but there are enough different times and instructors to be able to pick and choose which class you would want to go to. I enjoy the variety they offer in terms of types of classes. I lean towards yoga sculpt, HIIT Pilates, and the 90 min traditional. Restorative I enjoy, but unless I was an unlimited member I may not partake in. There's tons of parking. The women's locker room is pretty roomy and has some nice amenities if needed. When I moved to the area about 10 years ago, I started practicing vinyasa at YBD Wheaton, but haven't practiced in a few years. Recently I had a rare, coveted weekday sans children, so decided to treat myself to a yoga class. I still had an account that was easy to get back into when I signed up online for the single class. I normally do virtual yoga at home weekly, but decided to mix things up and do a Traditional Hot class, which I also haven't done in a few years. Before the actual class, I brushed up on the 26 poses. On the day of the class, I wasn't necessarily greeted warmly, and it seemed assumed that I was familiar with the studio and knew what I was doing. After introducing myself and explaining that I was new to the studio, the girl at the front desk was more friendly and welcoming. I also met Erin, the instructor for the Traditional Hot class, and she nicely showed me around. The class itself consisted of obvious regulars, which was interesting. I like that Erin gave clear instruction, correction, and tips both indirectly and directly (i.e. positioning support). Overall, I liked her as instructor and found her very informative, especially since Traditional Hot is not in my normal practice. Overall, I enjoyed the class and got a heck of a workout that I felt for days afterwards. The only things that I weren't a fan of was that she was very insistent on open eyes (I use yoga as a way to center and calm myself, and usually [unconsciously] close my eyes); she gave about 3 verbal reminders of open eyes during the practice. Also, she seemed to a little overtly correct me with some balancing poses that I was obviously struggling with. (I have Hallux Limitus [limited movement of my big toes] and degenerative arthritis in my feet). During the class, I continued persevering and modifying on my own, but was admittedly wobbly at times. I think that Erin was probably trying to be encouraging, but she was unaware of my physical limitations. I think that instructors might want to keep that in mind when interacting with students: someone might have limitations that are not readily apparent. I enjoyed mixing up my yoga practice with the Traditional Hot, but would probably continue to stick with YBD1 or 2 for any future classes I may attend. read more

I have been coming to YBD for many years now, and as a previous Lululemon employee I've been to a LOT of yoga studios. So, let me tell you a little bit about YBD and why I gave them 5 stars (especially their new Downers Grove location, which I love). First, the number of locations that you can pick from with your membership (or class pass) is fantastic. They have four locations: Wheaton, Downers Grove, Western Springs and Elmhurst. All four locations are comparable - they each have two studios, and sizeable locker rooms with shower facilities. Parking is usually easiest in Downers Grove or Elmhurst, though you can always find a couple spots at Western Springs and Wheaton as well. They both share lots with busy grocery stores, so they're usually pretty hopping! Classes range depending upon what you feel like - they offer Restorative, or yin, yoga in an unheated class, but the rest are all heated from 80 to 105 degrees. They also offer a Sculpt class which is a great mix of cardio and weight training along with yoga. Their level 1 and 2 classes are vinyasa flow, and are a fantastic workout! The studios are nice and dark, lit by candles, so very relaxing (and nobody can see you get all sweaty)! And at the end of each class, they bring you a lovely cool peppermint lavender cloth for your face to help you cool down, while you rest in savasana. They have SO many wonderful instructors, which to me is the most important part of yoga! These guys are the reason that I keep coming back, and that I actually can say that I LOVE to exercise! I'm sure if you try YBD you'll find your own favorites, but a few of mine that you can try are Lara, Colleen, Kara, Sarah P., Nadja, Heather, Shawn, Brandon, and Jenny T. They make yoga fun! If you're thinking of giving yoga a try, check Groupon - YBD often offers a 5 class pack for newbies. They also offer a free first week trial for newbies as well. You can rent a mat at the studio too, so you don't need to bring anything (though I recommend water and a face towel, especially if you're going to a heated class). I recently relocated to Illinois from out of state and have been trying to find a good yoga studio. I have been incredibly disappointed with my experience at YBD from quality of classes, room temperature and teachers. YBD has significant Hvac issues and the rooms do not get hot or even warm. The students don't get to warm up our bodies before going into poses which can be very dangerous. Kimberly V is by far the best teacher there and should be the example other teachers follow. The staff are hard to understand/follow and often read their lesson plan off a loose piece of paper. $139 a month is just not worth it. It would be great if they had more HOT yoga options, more KImberly V's and had heaters making the room 105 degrees. read more

This was my first yoga class and it was absolutely fabulous. It was challenging but the guidance was wonderful. The studio was clean, spacious and music very peaceful. I never felt "lost" in the movements- the teacher was very descriptive. read more

My 3-Star rating is not because of the staff, what the locker rooms look like, or how big /small the studio is. My 3-Star rating is due to my experience with their beginner level class. I did the 7 day free trial to see if I would like the studio and honestly, this is just my experience going ONCE - not all 7 days. The host recommended me trying out the beginner yoga class at 75 degrees (I forgot which temperature I took, all I know is that it was the lowest temp) because "it's a much slower paced class" and won't be overwhelming. As I'm waiting for the class to begin and more people are trickling in the sub teacher comes into the room to begin the class. She mentions that she is subbing for the regular teacher who usually teaches this particular class. As I look around the room I notice it was actually a rather full class. About 20ish or so people - men and women. One thing that really turned me off was me feeling like I was completely lost and me not understanding the yoga "language." I'm literally a BEGINNER at yoga and didn't know over 70% of the terms (positions) the instructor was telling us to do. Many of us in the class were looking all over the room with confused faces trying to find someone in the class that knew what they were doing then we would mimic their pose. The teacher was walking all around the room talking and looking at all of us (which is understandable - she's watching over us) but if it's a beginner class wouldn't the instructor want to stay up in front MOST of the class period to be the example for all us novices? I was frustrated not knowing many of the terms/positions of yoga, I wasn't breathing properly while holding any poses due to trying to keep up with the class and honestly, I was just overwhelmed. The ONLY relaxing moment during this class was at the end when the music stopped and everyone was instructed to lay down with their eyes closed to "wind down." Since I was still determined to understand yoga, I actually paid an independent yoga instructor to come to my house to teach me the basics of yoga. It's working out well and maybe when I get more comfortable with doing yoga at a faster pace, I'll take a public class. Other than that, I stick with practicing yoga at my house. read more

I'm so happy that I choose Yoga by Degrees when I was looking for a yoga studio to join this past January, 2017. After I completed my free week trying a variety of their classes at a variety of studios, I decided to become a member. I love that each class has a focus, warm up, flowing yoga moves, some balances, and savasana with a cool peppermint lavender cloth at the end. I have taken classes at all six of their locations. All locations are similar in that there is always someone at the front desk to greet you and sign you in. Locker rooms and the studios are always clean. Instructors all have their own flair but if you go to a specific type of class you will get a similar experience, which is nice. Besides classes, I have taken a number of their workshops. All have been fantastic. I do have some favorite instructors: Alisa, Kristin S, Hillary, Lara, Todd, Loretta, Ginger, Loukia, and Alex. But all instructors are great! read more

As a beginner, I've really enjoyed the classes taught by Geraldina and Erin at the Wheaton and Downers Grove location. I really really love Yoga by Degrees. The place is super clean, every single instructor is good, and the studios are big and HOT! I came to several classes with the groupon and always looked forward to them. I'm so sad now that I used them all, but I'm looking forward to future promotions! With the wave of New Years Resolutioners upcoming, I don't believe there will be any sales anytime soon. If classes weren't $20 a pop, I'd give YBD 5 stars no questions asked. I think $12 would be a more reasonable asking price. And you don't really save when you buy class packs: get $1 off per class when you buy 5! Let me curb my enthusiasm... More compliments: awesome showers with minty shampoo provided, clean lockers, friendly staff, and neat decor/layout. Aaaah! I love this place! The facility is always clean; both the locker rooms and the studio rooms. The instructors are very welcoming, and all lead truly great classes. This studio is much different than other yoga studios I've been to. They have 2 studios, so multiple classes can be conducted at once. I've only been in Studio 1 but it's huge! Plenty of room for everyone. They have a silence rule when entering a studio, which I really appreciate. I do yoga to de-stress & escape daily distractions of life. The last thing I want to hear when I'm waiting for class to start is mindless chatter. I like their class time offerings, especially the afternoon classes on weekends. They offer several restorative classes throughout the week. The studio has really nice locker rooms with large lockers, showers, hair dryers, basic toiletries, etc. I purchased a 5-class pass on Living Social. They actually gave me a free week of classes before I had to use my pass. Awesome! A few minor, minor, minor complaints... Something seems off with the acoustics in Studio 1. I feel like voices echo and it's sometimes difficult to hear the instructor clearly. I'm also not a fan of the mirrors. They're a bit distracting. Finally, I notice a slightly unpleasant smell when entering Studio 1. I get used to it quickly but it smells a bit like stinky feet. read more

I took a class with Shaun today and I truly think it was one of the best yoga classes I've ever taken, hot or not. The facility itself is so nice. The locker rooms are super clean and accommodating; hairspray on the counters, multiple blow dryers hung on the walls, conditioner/shampoo/soap in each shower. The studios are beautiful. Such a relaxing place to practice in. I also think it's so cool that you get a free week to start and feel it out... I've never come across a studio that offers anything like that. Lastly, for anyone who's new to hot yoga, speaking as a newbie myself, I would say to definitely take the advice on their website about proper hydration and not eating for about two hours before class. I practice yoga at least 3x a week, but that alone definitely didn't prepare me for my first class. Make sure to drink up and try to avoid sleeves/long pants. read more

I had an overall good experience here, as I was happy to find a hot yoga studio while visiting the area. For me, the classes could have been much hotter. The one thing that I found difficult was that I used a groupon and provided my groupon # and screenshot to 4 different people at the studio, but still somehow received 2 phone calls and an email regarding followup on my voucher #. Even after I responded to the owner via email with the voucher #, I had to spend my last class exiting the studio finding the # again through the app to share with the instructor, when I would have otherwise preferred to tell the instructor how wonderful she was and how I enjoyed her class more than any other class I had tried. I would recommend the studio to others as again, it was an overall positive experience in the room, but I did want to let management know about my experience and suggestion for improvement. Every instructor I have met has been knowledgeable, kind and engaging. It's a very welcoming studio and the caliber of teachers makes it a real gem. I always leave feeling refreshed. Love everything about this studio. They are so welcoming and work with you no matter your limits there is a class for you. It's clean and the rooms are set pretty exact to the class. If it's a large class it does get hot fast so if sensitive you may want to start slow. You can get a groupon then Either sign up for monthly pass or purchase class packs. Either way you spend about 13-20 per class so it's not cheap but then again I would pay more considering how awesome I feel when done. read more

I just want to share how absolutely exceptional my yoga class with Nadja has been at this studio (and the one in Elmhurst on Wednesdays)! I am so impressed with the compassion, mindfulness and customer service of Yoga by Degree's entire staff! Many of the yoga classes I've taken in the past have only focused on the workout, but Nadja's is the first I've found to incorporate meditation, mindfulness and self-acceptance in such a masterful, personally relevant and applicable way, and I am excited to take more classes from the rest of the teachers too! The entire staff appears to share this commitment to helping customers find their peace and inner balance, and they consistently demonstrate Yoga by Degree's awesome culture and authentic core values. I love this place! I've been taking most of their YBD2 80-95 degrees classes for nearly 5 months and I have enjoyed myself a lot. The studios are brand new and from the very first day I was very impressed with how modern and well kept is. The teachers are all lovely and helpful and the atmosphere feels cozy and welcoming. I recommend all classes though the Yoga Sculpt is for tough ones. I've been doing hot yoga for a while and I've heard all kind of myths about how hard it is and how some teachers won't even let you leave the room when you're too tired, but none of that I've seen at YBD. Instead I have found a way of exploring a wonderful practice at a kind of retreat were you feel at ease with yourself and at your own pace. I've improved a lot. I was never really flexible and kind of unaware of my own body but yoga has helped me a lot and I think is good to find a place like YBD where you can achieve the level only you want to achieve and make you feel good about yourself. read more
