What a great Dr! I am so happy that I made the decision to appoint Dr. Tun Chiong as my PCP. The location is convenient and the gastroenterologist on site is highly competent as well. It is rare that you experience genuine bedside manner and high competency in the same practice. She listens and offers very useful suggestions. The staff is really friendly and helpful. I went for a general check up. My appointment was at 12 but wasn't seen by the doctor until 1230 almost made me late for work. Dr.Yolanda was nice and friendly and helpful she answer all my questions. I asked for a pill she prescribed it but I had a problem when i went to the pharmacy to get it. Inorder for me to get the pill the pharmacist had to call my doctor and the doctor had to call my insurance company to get approval. lets just say it was so annoying and such a big hassal. I have been seeing Dr. Yolanda for 2 years now with no bad experiences. Wait time: Average to long wait time. I usually have to wait at least 15 minutes to see her, but I don't mind because I love her so much. Office & Staff: The office is in Chinatown, so it's always congested around the area. The office itself is nice and everything looks pretty new + clean. The staff is friendly + helpful, even if I call in and have a question. Bedside manners: She has the BEST bedside manners-- she is honest, thorough in explaining everything, great in answering questions + any followup you might need, and also caring. She is great in finding a balance of being honest with you on and then more technical with all the medical jargon. Lab Results & Followup: I have always received a call when lab results are ready with the proper followup care. She even follows up again to check on you in some instances. Lab results are ready on the Patient Portal which is so convenient, and they will fax or send you anything no problem. read more

I used to see Dr Yolanda's father as pediatrician, and I truely didn't want to switch doctors because I love Dr Tun So much. But without a doubt, Dr Yolanda is just as great as her father. Her office is so clean and the staff is so nice. She treats her patients with care and is very straight forward. Don't expect her to give you medication because you are flying away and need some 'in case of emergency antibiotics' Mostly everything is online. Which, in my opinion is great. I love the idea of being able to check your reports and such online, it's so much more convenient & walk in can be a hassle. So if something is wrong I already know first hand before going in for consult. Second thing I love is that Dr Yolanda is also a (half) gyn (?) I'm not quite sure, but she does papsmears, and it is so much easier for me to have my doctor and gyn at one place. So it's a major plus for us ladies. read more

I have been seeing DR Tun Choing since about 2006, Dr Tun Choing is straight up as good as it gets in health care. Attending to not only the concern of the appointment she CARES in all aspects of ones mind body and soul. She has given me many referrals to therapists, cardiac, she truly is a diamond in the ruff and anyone should be so lucky to see her. Claiming a referral can't be faxed to another doctor's office because regulation requires new patients to undergo a complete physical examination before issuance - only to issue that referral without such examination after keeping the new patient, who arrived 30 minutes early like asked to by staff, waiting over an hour after the patient's scheduled time on the day of the appointment, and then scheduling yet another appointment for the same physical exam in order to charge the insurance company twice - is unethical to say the least and borders on legality. Insurance companies give doctors a lot of discretion on charging for services, and that's one reason heath insurance is expensive and unaffordable for so many people. Many doctors take advantage by bilking the system. This office charged the insurer $150 for a piece of paper that could have been faxed. What was done in the office could have been done over the phone in 5 minutes. If a doctor seems to care more about perception and how the office looks rather than how it operates, one hypothesizes that financial success is more important to that doctor than patient care. Here you have an osteopathic physician, who comes from a family of doctors, with no clue what it means to go into business as a private doctor. It takes very little to satisfy people who are used to bad service in medicine and think that they will get the same quality of service anywhere they go. Like beggars not wanting to be choosey, they are happy with whatever they get. Most people that are dissatisfied with the quality of care they receive from any business don't complain; they simply walk away and never return again. But it's important to speak out to separate reality from those who are easily appeased and from the many fake reviews generated on Yelp by businesses with multiple employees with personal accounts. Forget about what the office looks like, and how polite the doctor comes off. You're not there for a job. What matters is how competent and proficient the doctor and staff are. I've seen family physicians see 70 patients a day - many of them walk-ins (non-scheduled appointments), without medical assistants, and with only one receptionist - provide better care than this office. The staff at this place is big enough for a small clinic yet you have to wait long past your scheduled time to be seen, and deal with the lack of professionalism expected from a doctor's office. The staff is not properly trained; HIPAA and OSHA does NOT encompass proper training. Any experienced clinician will tell you that HIPPA is more about protecting doctors from lawyers than protecting patients. Proper training comes from the top; i.e., the doctor. The staff here wears scrubs with no identification; they call you into a room, and ask you questions about your sex life, and then you find out they are not RNs nor PAs. This increases medical errors and the chance of having personal details disclosed to other non-medical employees. Allowing medical records to be accessed by non-medical staff is a sure way for an employee to commit fraud, identity theft, or sell a patient's medical information to medical companies. No one should have access to patients' medical records but their doctor. And why are they in scrubs? There should be a law preventing anyone from wearing scrubs that isn't a doctor or nurse; the same way it's illegal to wear a police uniform by anyone who is not a cop. The law requires doctors to go "paperless" (digitize medical records). It does NOT require doctors to put patients' medical records online! Disabling access to your medical information through some unsecured Web site doesn't keep your medical record offline. This doctor insists on keeping medical records on an online database, where it can be accessed by staff and hackers, even if patients opt out to access it themselves through the Web site. If Google, Apple, Microsoft, Wall Street Banks, and the U.S. government get secret information stolen from them by hackers, nothing online is safe. The most secure way to keep private information safe is to not put it online. The first rule of practicing medicine is to do no harm, so why risk patients' privacy? Many doctors claim to take patient privacy very seriously but fail to truly comprehend what it means. This is why there are so many medical privacy and malpractice attorneys in the U.S. Strange enough, this doctor has a hospital administration MBA - go figure! If you have a serious health problem or suffer from something chronic like diabetes or asthma or are looking for an OBGYN or pediatrician for your baby, seek a seasoned medical profession. And one that protects your personal information and does not put your medical record online. read more

I feel really torn about leaving this review having thought about it for a long time but alas, I also feel compelled to write this in the hopes that a younger female will read this and learn from my situation. Btw, I don't think she warrants 2 stars but unfortunately Yelp does not allow half star ratings so my real rating would fall in between 2.5 to 3 stars. First I'd like to say that Dr. Yolanda is a very nice woman (and still is even after what had transpired) and I do believe in her abilities as a primary care physician. My primary objective when I selected her to be my PCP was for basic standard procedures such as the annual check-up, std testing, and the annual pap. In retrospect I should've really evaluated what I needed from a PCP because going to see a physician for the bare minimum may not be the wisest choice to make as a woman. I'm not saying she's not compassionate or unwilling to listen to your needs but I do feel she could be a bit more thorough. That should be a given but with how busy her practice is sometimes being thorough enough may not always be a top priority. My main issue here is being informed about certain vaccines, particularly Gardasil. This is where I feel she dropped the ball on and I really feel let down because of it. The office she practices out of is not perfect but I can and have overlooked some of its shortcomings in the past (e.g. long wait times to be seen, office being overbooked, being unable to schedule appts in mid afternoons because she has to pick up her kids which I can respect but it was hard to see her when I was taking courses and could not make it there in the mornings esp. when she doesn't offer weekend hours). However, one thing that has stayed on my mind was not being told about Gardasil until after I contracted HPV and the window of opportunity to get it was already over. At the time when I was informed that my results came back with something I was only then asked if I had gotten vaccinated with Gardasil AT ALL in my follow-up appt. When I was told that the age limit was 26 I was crestfallen because when I first started seeing her I still had a chance to get it done. When I realized it was too late for me and reacted accordingly to my disappointment I was even more disappointed with Dr. Yolanda's response. I did not express how I felt about her response at the time because I was already shut down about my recent results and the fact that it was too late to get vaccinated. I am not writing this review to be passive aggressive but I do feel her reply at the time was a rather defensive one. In short she said she herself couldn't get it either. This, coming from someone who recently had a brand new baby and I'm guessing is happy with her husband and probably not looking to have any other partner for the rest of her life much less worry about getting HPV altogether. The reason for my review is to bring about awareness. Knowing that sometimes even businesses can have blind spots I hope this review can be used constructively. If you're going to offer pap smear procedures and ask pertinent questions like, "did you use a condom?", "how many partners did you have over the past year?", "were your sexual partners male or female?", etc., then you should also include asking about Gardasil as another standard question in the check-up process. They had my records and had my birthdate on file but unfortunately for me I didn't know about Gardasil entirely until my results came back positive with the very strain that Gardasil could have addressed. Personally, it has not been an easy path for me to treat it. So far it has not gone away no matter what I do and I fear that I will have it for the rest of my life. Because of how busy this practice is I opted not to see Dr. Yolanda anymore when I schedule my annual appts. Instead I decided to see her assistants because it was easier to book to see them. I have expressed my frustration regarding my situation to Lena (who is nice and does her job) but she doesn't say anything and the only conclusion I can draw from it was that my frustration fell on deaf ears and won't ever get brought up in staff meetings. Every year since those first results came back positive I am confronted with the same emotional disappointment all over again and have to go through with it each time. I do admit that I am partly to blame because of my foolish choices in who I decided to become intimate with but I do feel that doctors should be obligated to inform their clients as well about what's available to take. I was young and uninformed and didn't know what I don't know. I truly hope that anyone reading this will go and open up a dialogue with their doctor (even if it may not be Dr. YTC) to discuss about Gardasil or vaccines and be able to get it while you're still able to. I do feel stuck in this one area in my life (first learning about it was not easy to digest let alone trying to treat it in my case) and truly hope that you don't have to be. read more

i really like her. i think i finally found the one. and you know that is so hard to come by when it comes to doctors. and for some reason, i am so inclined to just call her Yolanda instead of Dr. Tun-Chiong...it just rolls off your tongue. i appointed her to be both my primary physician and my gynecologist so i saw her two days in a row (they don't allow same day visits for two different treatments for insurance claim reasons) - easy to make appointments via zocdoc.com - really nice and helpful staff - conveniently located in chinatown - don't worry everyone speaks english very well! and i saw plenty of non-asian patients who im sure would vouch for this. - new and clean office! i learned she moved from next door and took up this new space - technologically savvy - you get your own username/password via their patient portal. AND they actually post your lab results there! i really liked "Yolanda." great first impressions when she first came in. very personable and easy to talk to, she made good conversation without being too nosy. i felt like i was talking to a friend. she is also not very old, maybe late 30's? she made me feel really comfortable during my pap smear. at one point, i was so comfortable that i was uncomfortable because we started talking about martha stewart when she was looking up my v-jayjay...awkwardddd. if you are not the talkative type, i can imagine she would respect that as well. she was really good at answering my questions during both my visits. i didn't feel rushed, i felt encouraged to ask anything i wanted. and best of all, there was none of that condescending tone i usually get from doctors. she was also very observant and noticed something that stuck out on me, and told me to get it checked out. turned out to be nothing, but at least i know she cares to find out i went back the next day for my physical and of course, she remembered me well. again, very warm. i called her a week later to ask if my results were back yet. i was told she would call back, and she did within an hour. we spent over 10 minutes on the phone talking about my results. i had questions i forgot to ask her during my visit and she again was so good about listening and answering my questions. im sure she was busy since it was the middle of the day, but i didnt feel rushed at all. the only thing that i will say is that i did have to wait both days during my visit for about an hour until i saw her. about half an hour before i was taken in to do the typical blood pressure/height/weight. i had the first appointment of the day but ran 10 minutes late. unfortunately if someone comes in before you, they get priority. which is fair. i ended up waiting over an hour to see her because she was also running late from covering her dad at another office (her whole family is doctors) so her schedule got pushed back. i think if she didn't i would have only had to wait half an hour because i was late. anywho, i always expect to wait a bit anyway at the doctor's office, i think it is a given unless you have the first appointment of the day (and don't be late, like me!) also, her medical assistants seem like they are pretty new and probably could use some more experience... overall, as a doctor she really listens and is very personable. i would definitely recommend her to anyone! I have never had a doctor that I liked so much as I do Dr. Tun-Chiong. I moved to West Coast last year and am at a loss without her! She is so caring and attentive and a great listener. I have recommended all my girl friends to her for OB-GYN and a few others for primary care. I followed her from midtown down to Chinatown because I trust her so much. I never felt shy to tell her anything and she even gave me some relationship advice! :) She uses ZOCDOC appointment scheduling which makes it so easy. I love love love going to Dr. Tun-Chiong's office. I have been in search of a young, straight forward, cool Dr. for a long time and I finally found one. She is very honest, thorough, knowledgable and doesn't sugar coat anything. I have been her patient for 2 yrs and never had a bad visit. Her staff is professional, knowledgable and sweet as well. So prior to this my son had been going to another pediatrician whom I loved but stop taking my insurance but I continued seeing her for over a year paying cash. My sister has been hounding me to bring my son to see Dr. Tun telling how great her and her staff is. First visit she gave my son two shots and a blood draw... Not one tear for a two year old OMG now that's amazing!! But not only that they have followed up with referrals and specialist for Miles cuz he has has some issues with his blood work as well as some allergies. Had I known I would came here a year ago when his other doc stop taking my insurance. The staff is very friendly as well and very helpful! She is a family doc so she see patients of all ages!! My whole family adores Dr. Yolanda. My kids were originally patients of her father until he retired. That was tough news for me because he was the best of the best. I LOVE Dr. Tun Chiong (Yolanda). She is the BEST! I love, love, love her and her office staff. Yolanda is always friendly, helpful, supportive and honest. I was referred to this office by my dentist. I don't understand why it is just so difficult to get my complete lab test report from this office. I called at least 6 times, and emailed, letting the staff know I want my complete lab report to keep a file, and I can't find a copy to down load from the patient portal. The stuff just keep telling me the report can be found in patient portal, which is not, and they will have some one send to me. Last call on Aug 22, 2014, they promised I can get it by the following Wed (Aug27) (again, I don't know why it take such a long time just to send the report) However, nothing was sent to me at all. I paid for the lab test, and I just can't get my report! Base on this kind of service, I will never recommend any of my friends, colleagues or relatives to this office.
