If Dr. Martinho is your internal med/pcp consider yourself damn lucky. She is an outstanding physician. And I assure you, I hold many physicians in very low regard, especially in the hospitals. I turned to Dr. Martinho based on a recommendation by a close friend. I am so glad I did. She keeps me alive. Seriously. She is a compassionate doctor, very thorough in her exam process, does everything she can to relieve suffering and is familiar with numerous private practice physicians who can help patients far better than any hospital. Dr. Martinho is absolutely the best PCP I've ever had. She listens, she advocates for her patients, and she is thorough. She has a straightforward attitude and is direct in her communication. I highly recommend her to anyone looking for a new PCP. One of her assistants/receptionists is also fabulous (sorry I can't remember her name!). I'm a difficult blood draw, and she always comes in (pre-COVID) to take my blood samples. If you need help finding specialists, Dr. Martinho is also an incredible resource, so I recommend seeing her for an annual if you need recommendations for specialists too! I have no complaints about Dr. Martinho personally. She was efficient and informative. However, this place has a lot of issues. Her receptionist, Rita, is a piece of work. She is constantly on the defense and thinks that everyone is yelling at her. Her phone etiquette is horrendous! She started screaming at me, picking fights, and threatening to hang up for no reason. So bizarre! When I was in the waiting room for my physical I heard her talking this exact same way to someone on the phone so this is a common occurrence for her. Someone who deals with the public should not act this way. Moving on...a week later, when my blood test results came in, I received a call from the office: "Your lab results came back, the doctor would like you to come in." A little freaked out by this I said, "Well, is there a glaring problem, is it urgent?" and she replied with, "I can't tell you now. The doctor would just like to see you. Please come in as soon as possible." Um, okay? So I went in terrified and asked to first see my results to determine what the doctor wanted to see me about, before I went in for an office exam (which would've been billed). EVERYTHING WAS FINE. They just wanted me to bill me for another office visit. Another huge issue is that this office charged me for a routine test (ekg) that was done during my physical, coding it as a diagnostic, which in turn caused the insurance to bill it to me as an extra. It should have been coded as routine preventative since it is a routine part of an annual exam. Rita denied them doing this, yelled at me, and blamed the insurance company. Even though I liked the doctor okay, I won't be returning here. Too many issues and too many other options for doctors in NYC to have to deal with this kind of incompetence. Dr. Martinho is very thorough and caring. She takes the time to get to know you as a person and not just a patient. I liked that she asked me questions about my lifestyle, my challenges and how I spend my day. Her physical exam was thorough and she discussed my results with me in a way that I did not feel rushed. You know, I hate to make this review because I actually love Dr. Martinho as a doctor. However, this review is for her staff. Her staff is snappy, does not let me talk when I call about an issue (that is on their end!) re: anxiety medication (ironic considering I am trying to reduce anxiety as well). Seriously, doctors can be great but the staff can ruin an experience. She should look into how her receptionist treats her patients. Judging by the non-recommended reviews here, I am not the only one who has run into this issue. read more

I learned of Dr. Martinho and her practice through an online post and decided to try her out after reading tons of great reviews. Hands down this was the best physician experience I ever had. She was thorough, warm and a really great listener. She spent as much time as I needed. No usual "dr clock". I highly recommend to anyone looking for an A+ general physician who will also provide advice and guidance on any issue. Although I've always shunned concierge medicine because I have insurance, I have decided to sign up With Dr . Martinho under one of her plans. Worth every penny for her time and guidance. read more

I was very fond of Dr. Martinho, who I found to be friendly, engaging, and informative in our appointments. But I stopped going to the practice when her receptionist repeatedly refused to relay urgent messages about my medication to Dr. Martinho and gave me quasi-medical advice about how those medicines "usually" worked. She also at one point told me that their office would not be handling my birth control prescriptions anymore, despite having done so several times at that point. I was never able to reach Dr. Martinho for information about this policy shift. This receptionist was so rude and dismissive to me that I stopped seeing Dr. Martinho. read more

I don't know why I didn't do this sooner, especially since I'm an avid Yelper. I've been seeing Dr. Martinho for several years now and I love her more and more each year. She always takes her time to consult with me, even when she should probably just rush through all of the nonsense I bring to her. She has a solution for EVERYTHING though! If for some reason she doesn't, she'll find the answer. She has helped me with foot issues that even my Podiatrist couldn't help me with! Everything from dietary concerns, women's health, plastic surgery, bariatric surgery, to new career advice, she has helped me solve issues with and without medicine. She has a great sense of humor but is direct, never rude, when she's advising me. Her staff is small and always helpful. They are always so patient with my never ending appointment changes. I've said this before, if for some reason she wasn't in my insurance network, I'd still go to her and pay every penny. During my career changes, luckily though she takes United Healthcare and Aetna. I have been going to Dr. Martinho for many years. I will tell you that there is no better physician anywhere She is the best!

I thought Dr. Martinho was a good internist and thought she was someone who listened and was responsive to her patients. I was very wrong! I went for a physical and about a week or so later my test results showed up in my in box without a phone call from her first. You think she would have called me to discuss the results before sending them. I saw that on one test the numbers were high and a concern to me so I called her office to ask for an additional blood test and a prescription was emailed to me. I had the blood drawn on a Thursday. The following Monday, I called her office to inquire if the results were in. I was told the results were in and I asked if she would call me to discuss it. I waited until Tuesday afternoon without a call back and decided to call again to inquire when I should expect a call back. Initially I was told by the woman answering the phone, I don't know, she's busy.I thought that was an inappropriate answer. I asked her to find out when I could expect a call back, that day, the next? I just wanted to know if I needed to be concerned and when I could talk to the Dr. She put me on hold and after several minutes came back and said, the results are fine, they will be emailed to you, good bye. I think she just told me that to get me off the phone. Later that evening the Dr. called me and said, what can I do for you? As if she didn't know, I had an initial blood test that was off and I asked for additional blood work and I was concerned about the results. So, she explained the results to me and she told me to call her office back in January to get a script for additional blood work. That Thursday, I called her office back and asked if the Dr. could call me to continue our initial discussion because after thinking about our conversation, I had a few more questions. I was told by the woman who answered the phone that I needed to make an appointment to speak with the Dr.. When I asked why, she told me the Dr. said I had called too many times and she wouldn't talk to me anymore on the phone. Now, if the Dr. had told her this she shouldn't have repeated it, it was rude and if the she made it up herself, rude!!!!!! I never heard back from the Dr.. I never heard of calling a Dr. three times as excessive and if she wants more money by scheduling an office visit that is dishonest. I guess it's time to find a new Dr. read more
