Silver City Richmond Hill USED to be one of my fav theatres to see a movie, until this past weekend…read moreto see Deadpool & Wolverine with the fam. This was my first time back to these theatres- actually any movie theatre since the end of 2019 and Covid. What surprised me the most was how the lobby area has not changed at all, out dated games, cold unwelcoming entry, same self serve counter and 1 person standing at a kiosk to take your tickers before you get to the ridiculously expensive concession stand. What annoyed me the most was paying $52 for 2 kids and 2 adults and then $75 at the concession for: Combo w/ 2 regular drinks, large popcorn and 1 candy - $27.99 2 kids combos at $10.99 each (smaller trays) 1 regular popcorn at $8.75 (smaller bags) 1 pack of candy $6.77 First of all, the fact that what they call a large popcorn now is a JOKE! This same bag used to be wider and much more popcorn! Same with the regular size. No more free refills, although people were freely walking over and refilling. This is insulting considering the cost of a large drink is $6.75. I will never return to a theatre and purchase anything from the concession stand. The popcorn was stale, the pop was flat and the bags of candy, I can get those at Dollarama or Walmart for $2.50 per bag. I did expect it would be expensive, but I did not anticipate that everything had shrunk in size for drinks and popcorn. Makes sense now why it was so empty there. Not even worth it to collect Scene Points anymore. There was 10% off the concession which is a thing of the past since the program got revamped during Covid. I was really hoping that since Covid that there would be improvements considering the movie theatres took a huge hit during the lockdowns and closures. We enjoyed paying $6.99 to $24.99 ordering home premieres at home and buying our own snacks. As a family of 4 movie night was costing us under $40. At a theatre it's ridiculous to pay $125. With these prices they have made their money back tenfold. Movie was amazing, easily 5 stars for me. The only reason I gave the theatre 2 stars is I love the idea of choosing my seats in advance or when I pay there. I don't have to worry about rushing to catch a show if I pay in advance. Will I go back? Yes, fun with the fam. BUT I will be there bag in hand with my own snacks and happily seeing movies at Markham VIP because I can choose my seats in advance and not worry that if I'm late that all the good seats are gone.

The gentleman checking us in was friendly and courteous. I think he was also the one who started our movie, and cleaned up after when the movie was done XD There are no more staff selling tickets anymore; they are all done at the ticket kiosks right when you enter. The gentleman scanning the tickets also stands in the very front near the entrance doors. After you enter, you can then purchase your snacks and drinks, and play arcade games. This theatre seems to be in the middle of getting rid of their red old/dirty theatre seats - I guess it is finally time to change them! The washrooms were also tidy and clean.

Great First Experience at Cineplex VIP!…read more My partner and I recently visited Cineplex VIP at Downtown Markham for *The Odyssey* on Tuesday, and we had a really enjoyable experience! The Tuesday offer was around $19 per person, which we felt was a good value for the VIP experience. We arrived about 10 minutes early and spent some time relaxing in the VIP lounge before the movie. The lounge was comfortable, and there was a bar where you could order both alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. There are nicer, cleaner washrooms too. One of the highlights for us was being able to borrow a closed-captioning device, this service should be available for non-VIP seats. As non-native English speakers, we really appreciated this, especially for a movie that was almost three hours long. The captions made it much easier for us to follow the dialogue and enjoy the movie without constantly worrying about missing something. We also ordered boneless chicken wings directly from our seats. The food was decent and reasonably priced, and the service was excellent. The staff were friendly, attentive, and happy to help. We even asked for some water, and they brought it right to our seats. Overall, this was our first Cineplex VIP experience, and we really enjoyed it. The comfortable lounge, closed-captioning option, seat-side food service, and friendly staff made the whole movie night feel much more relaxing and enjoyable than a regular theatre visit. For the Tuesday price, we definitely felt it was worth it, and we would happily come back again! There are some snack deals on tuesday too, please refer to the pictures.

Back to good? We…read morealways enjoyed visiting Imagine Cinemas as an independent theatre. But this aging location at Promenade Mall has also disappointed us on 2 past visits with movie showings that paused midway. First time was caused by a fire alarm. Second time the show stopped twice once midway and once at the very end due to fuse resets. Yes, you do get the same comfy reclinable sofa seats, and a smaller comparative audience in the theatre. They do have reasonable prices at this time, including Tuesday night $5 tickets with $5 large popcorn specials, as well as $8 everyday matinee tickets and $8.99 bucket popcorn. We generally look forward to a show for the whole family but hope the facilities improve for our next movie night with a smooth showing if we come back here. Update: recent shows that we've caught here in the past year have gone without a hitch. Only minor complaint is the screen which without glare had a dark spot on the screen that didn't project quite as bright. Skip it or hit it? We'll be back assuming the problems that plagued here don't recur.

A big plus is that on Tuesdays you can get tickets for as little as $5 including tax. Luxury on a budget. While the theatre isn't as big, I feel it is certainly much more comfortable and a better experience than IMAX seats from a larger chain like Cineplex. The staff has been consistently friendly. Once I left my phone in the theatre during the last screening and the mall was locked, and I couldn't come in to get my phone. We gave them a call. The staff found the phone and even brought it out to me!

We had planned to watch Fantastic Four during the last show and booked two special-needs seats online. Parking downtown already costs more than the tickets for two, but we were looking forward to a relaxing evening. About twenty minutes into the film, a staff member approached us to explain that one of the "seats" we had booked was not actually a chair at all, but the space reserved for a wheelchair. This crucial detail was never made clear on the booking site. Unlike other accessible venues--such as the TTC or most theatres--that allow guests to choose between using their own wheelchair or a provided seat, this cinema offered no alternative except an awkward mid-show refund. The situation was uncomfortable and completely ruined our night out. Although the management responded publicly on Google in a caring and professional tone, two follow-up emails since then have gone unanswered. I hope Imagine Cinemas takes accessibility concerns seriously and improves both its booking transparency and customer follow-up.

I also wanted to thank David the ticket taker because he took the time to take a photo of me in front of the cool Fantastic Four movie display.

Every time I say that I'm heading over to or hitting downtown Markham, it still sounds weird to me…read more I will admit that it is growing on me after a few years. Like downtown Mississauga, downtown Markham is fairly new. The notion was to create condos and have locals walk to businesses. Enterprise Boulevard is a pleasure to drive along to head there. Stores, condos, and new developments continue to be built, including York University's new Markham Center Campus in Fall 2023. Currently, York U. has YSpace Markham, which supports folks who are innovators in technology, and food, and beverage sectors. Before the pandemic, I rarely hit the downtown core. I only visited Chatime, ME-VA-ME, and Cineplex VIP. During this pandemic, I have been able to discover cool new places. Copper Branch. Comebuy. Poke Guys. South St. Burger. I love how cool the Marriott hotel looks here. One of these days, I'll need to book some time here and check it out, along with its fabulous restaurant. I am a regular bubble tea customer at Comebuy and Chatime. Who knew? I have been supporting both regularly for the past 1.5 years and have established a nice rapport with staff. There is only one Comebuy in the GTA. If I'm away for a rare couple of weeks, staff are literally concerned. One made sure before Christmas 2020 to let me know what their hours of operation were, so I wouldn't be disappointed not getting any bubble tea! There is plenty of parking. There are lots that are primarily free. I have yet to be asked to pay for parking. In front of Comebuy and Poke Guys, even where street parking isn't exactly available, parking briefly to fetch takeout is okay. I have yet to see any parking police come over and I am rarely parked longer than five minutes. There is an indoor merry-go-round at the northwest corner of Birchmount and Enterprise. I admire it from afar these days. It has been closed since the pandemic, but looked magical and festive around the Christmas holidays. Back in the summer of 2017, I came here for the Markham ribfest. It moved from Warden and highway 7 over here. I had an excellent time, despite getting caught in the rain and getting soaked trying to get to my car from the venue. I do miss seeing events downtown and hope that they return when it's safe. I like it here. It's constantly growing and changing. It's nice to briefly admire the lights in the wintertime and people-watch in the summer. (263)
