Yorkie Rescue Houston is first of all an owner advocate rescue . When a dog is found, the first priority is to try to find the owner, scan for a chip. After all attempts have been exhausted the dog enters the rescue and a home can be found. Their application and adoption process does have quite a few questions, that is because they care about their animals and want them to go to good homes. They don't want their animals to be adopted out and then returned so they are honest about their animals and their behaviours. All of their animals are in foster homes, not in a shelter, so the fosters can usually answer questions and the dogs are usually used to being in a house so are started on toilet training. I have volunteered with Yorkie Rescue Houston since 2017. I have found the director and other volunteers to be knowledgeable and centered on what is best for the dogs. I know of situations where a dog was surrendered to us, vetted, and then returned to an owner who could prove it was their dog. We have spent thousands to get needed treatment for a dog and adopted it out for $450. A favorite phrase is, "It's all about the dog!" My current foster has had vetting and surgery costing at least $5000, not counting on-going medicine which she still needs. If you want to donate or volunteer with a good dog-centered rescue, this is definitely one of the best you could consider. read more

I have been associated with Yorkie Rescue Houston since 2019. This organization ALWAYS puts the dog first...whether it is in locating missing owners, caring for surrendered dogs, and providing first rate vet care and love to every dog they bring in. Each dog is fully vetted, microchipped, spayed/neutered, tested/treated for heartworms, required surgery performed, all vaccinations brought r up to date. There is an adoption fee (usually around $450) but it doesn't come close to covering the vetting costs that each dog incurs. The vast majority of the associated costs are covered by donations of loving adoptees and fosters and the community of this rescue. read more

Amazing how dedicated Bobbi is to caring for mistreated, abandoned and unwanted small dogs. She has all the drama in her personal life that the rest of us have and then some but she still makes time to give love and care to these little guys that really need it. We adopted a rescue and the fee didn't come close to covering her expenses in getting our boy the medical care he desperately needed before he could even be fostered. Yorkie Rescue Houston is THE BEST small dog rescue ever. the director and all of the volunteers are caring people. YRH spares NO expense on veterinary care for each and every dog that comes into their care. It is their mission to find the absolute best home for each dog. After watching how Yorkie Rescue Houston is run for a few years, I adopted a little girl (Suzy-Q) from them. They are wonderful. Every dog is given everything it needs for its best life. They take care of all of a dog's medical needs, nutrition and have loving foster who care for them until the perfect home is found. All dogs are completely vetted and chipped before adoption. I adopted my sweet BamBam from YRH after being a foster fail. He was my 3rd foster and he just stole my heart. When he came to YRH he was in bad shape having been neglected (rotted teeth, flea dermatitis, fearful and quiet). We bonded while I saw to his recovery and I knew then he was forever a part of my family. YRH has been instrumental in saving so many dogs and I can't thank Bobbi enough for everything she does. YRH is the absolute best place to find your pup companion. They go above and beyond to rescue small dogs from shelters also pups that have been surrendered because the person is unable to care for them any longer. The dogs get the best vet care check ups to make sure they're absolutely healthy before going to their forever home.
