The venue is a great place for a date night. It has an intimate setting and the atmosphere is great. The drink selection could be better. The bartenders can be better too, especially with basic cocktail knowledge. I asked for a Beautiful, which I know has equal parts of cognac and grand mariner. However, mines was too heavy on the cognac side. I requested Hennessy. I saw Goapale - and she did a fantastic job, The show was rather short (the only disappointing piece). She came on at 7:10p and ended at 8:22p :( Overall, I would go back to Yoshi's for another show - I do plan on being cautious on how I place my cocktail orders. read more

We typically do a meet and greet, but due to traffic have missed Meeting Eric Benet and Jonathan. My advice if commuting from San Fran, leave 1.5 hr prior to door opening for meet and greet. Service is great, food is good, but we were really disappointed when we looked forward to a night out at their "live music with dinner" offering. After 14 months of watching music only on screen we were seated in the night club, while the musicians performed in an entirely different room so that we had to watch them, sigh, on a screen. It turns out that if you want to be in the same room as the musicians you have to request it when making your reservation. Such a bust! Also we had a big snafu getting out of the unmanned parking garage next door after the machine ate our ticket. What good is parking validation if there is nobody staffing the garage? I would have parked on the street but my window was smashed and contents of my trunk stolen the last time I went to Yoshi's. Not the best night out of my whole life. Maybe staying home and watching SF Jazz on screen isn't so bad after all? read more

We went last night for a concert as we have many other nights. Much like are prior experiences, we were not disappointed. We saw Eric Roberson for the third time and each time was at Yoshis. The show was great! We picked up our tickets at Will Call, which went smoothly. We were seated towards the back, but there really isn't a bad seat so we saw the show just fine. Our waitress was attentive, and we received our food and drink orders promptly. The drinks taste good, but the alcohol was lacking. I ordered three drinks and I would usually feel a little tipsy, but that was not the case here. I will probably order virgin version next time. The food was good. We ordered a variety of items. Some appeared frozen from commercial packaging: fries and popcorn shrimp. The sushi was good. I like that the California roll is made with real crab. The food prices are above average, but not exorbate. It is nice to see a concert at a small venue without having to go to San Francisco or drive too far. Yoshi's is a great jazz venue with a 40 year history. The food is pretty good, though on the pricey side. Last night we went to see Pat Martino, and it was a sold out show, so we shared a table with 2 nice older gentlemen. Some audience members seemed less keen to let people sit with them, but as the announcements kept saying, you were going to end up making friends whether you liked it or not ;) We got some wine, beer, and calamari with a miso dip, though I couldn't really taste miso. Some pieces were fried well, some were soggy. I think there were supposed to be peppers as well, but we got exactly 1 pepper ring--that was good! Would have loved more. Come for the music, and if you're hungry, you'll be fine, as long as you're ready to spend a little. read more

I remember this place being really good (like 10 years ago). I went here recently on a whim with a friend and was kind of embarrassed at how mediocre and straight up bad it is now. I ordered some unremarkable fish dish while he ordered a steak. There is no way around it: the steak was appalling. They apparently don't have the skill to do medium rare, and the mushrooms that came with it were bland and off tasting. It's like they didn't use the flavor from the steak pan to cook them and just tossed them around in nothing. They didn't even use salt and pepper. The service was also a joke. It was a show night, so maybe they were overloaded, but I had to chase down my waitress just to get the customer copy of the bill. Despite this, the place was packed since there was a show playing. The people next to me ordered sushi and while they seemed to like it, it honestly looked like something you'd see in a takeout sushi place. This place is right off the Bay Bridge coming from SF. I love it because of its convenience from the freeway as well as the cheap garage parking. We paid only $5.00 for 3 hours! I love the ambience Yoshi sets inside and they're better to make reservations for seating. If you decide to spend the evening at the bar, the baristas are pretty consistent and take care of you quickly. We went on a night Musiq Soulchild was playing. The concert began at 10 pm, we arrived at 9 pm, found great parking, seating at the bar and the line goes through quickly into the lounge where Musiq performed. For an eventful night, the customer service all around was quick and efficient. My two favorite qualities! If you're going to order off the menu i highly recommend any sushi, the kobe need skewers and to you calamari fans, there's are also fried with red peppers! Yum!! The waiter/waitresses provide excellent customer service. All their drinks are pretty good and for you non alcoholic drinkers, their ginger beer sits well with their food. Dinner seemed stale to all five of us. We've been there many many times but this time was disappointing. To top it off the performance we attended by DWel's was hellacious. The bass was so overpowering we could not make out the songs. We expressed our opinion to the waitress whose response was to ask if we wanted earplugs! When we said yes, she never returned!!!! After 30 min. we were so disappointed with the show & response to our comments that we left. We expressed our dissatisfaction to a manger who's response was to ask if we wanted to go back in with earplugs & that he would tell the sound mixer. No refund or comp tickets were offered. We've been to many many shows at Yoshi's and always enjoyed them. The music tonight did not remotely resemble the website music of the artist. The fact that there was no provision for accommodating us with a full (or partial) refund, comping our drinks or future tickets has been deeply disappointing. We certainly don't expect to return knowing customer satisfaction is not their interest. We've never walked out of any other performances prior to this one. read more

Yes, Yoshi's is a bit pricey but worth every penny. Before going to see Herb Alpert, we enjoyed a wonderful meal here. The service (thank you, Sarah) was excellent. We had cocktails, edamame (free with your yelp coupon), a salad, calamari, and sushi. There was enough on each plate to split. Bill $93 before tip. The calamari is crispy, not at all greasy. The addition of some fried Fresno peppers is delicious. Salad was not over dressed, and sushi was super fresh - tuna, hamachi, salmon, plus 2 others. 10 pieces total. Again, we split each dish, there was plenty. This is my second time at Yoshi's for dinner and entertainment. I will return and recommend Yoshi's as a great place to celebrate a special occasion. read more

My family and I have frequented Yoshis for generations in Oakland. This is our hometown. During our last visit, the food was good. The concert was great, but the only issue was with our waitress. It took her nearly 30 minutes just to check in with us for the first time, and she never stopped by our table again for the entire meal. We literally watched her ignore us the entire time. Luckily, I know Spanish and could communicate with the support staff. The bus boys were amazing, which is the only reason why we still left a tip. The waitress spent all of her time at the table next to ours, and it was the most rude experience I've had. I will definitely be calling to leave a complaint. Enjoy the show but skip the restaurant, the high prices and low quality service is not worth it.. read more

Always heard about this place and finally went there for a friend's birthday. It was for the El de Barge concert. Wow, this place gets packed! There's tons of seating in the dining area, but it was all full. Would love to try dining there prior to a future show. It's very convenient, and I want to try their food. Tons of people have performed there and I hope to see more concerts there in the future. There's pictures of past performers all over the place. We got there early to do a meet and greet with El. He was nice, but a bit shy. Soft spoken. We ordered a couple of beers and a dessert. I do like the lounge type of seating. A Night with El Debarge!!! I've been to Jack London's Square many times over many years and this was my first time at Yoshi's. Oh my goodness, great concept: Restaurant on one side, intimate concert lounge on the other side with a different menu. We had dinner reservations which ensured seating for the concert later that evening. What we did not know, even with dinner reservations, 1st come-1st serve still applies for concert seating. It makes sense but had we known, we would've had earlier reservations. Anyhoo, what I don't like about the lounge side - they compact too many people in causing an uncomfortable feeling. I felt like we were smushed together like at a comedy club. We sat in the back up the mini staircase. There were small tables with four chairs per table. No arm room. No leg room. I was quite happy some of the people who had reserved seating, did not show up. VERY happy! What I loved about the lounge side - no matter where you sit, you have a good view unless a tall person sits in front of you. I felt so bad for my short friend who had to keep moving her head around so she could see the performance. Otherwise, viewing the stage is perfect from anywhere. The sound system was wonderful. The ambiance was fantastic. The name being lit on the wall like "the bat signal" is a nice touch. What I loved about the restaurant side - the comfortability, service, and food. Winners all around. This Los Angeleno would go to Yoshi's again just for dinner or dinner and a show. ;-) El DeBarge was amazeballs!!! read more

I had the opportunity to attend the Dave CHAPPELLE presents Luenell at Yoshi's on 6.7.23 and 6.8.23. I made reservations for dinner the first night was there at the correct time and earlier than expected .. the seats I received in the venue which if you know their policy you get better seats if you eat dinner ... MINE WERE BACK IN THE CORNER UNDER THE PRODUCTION EQUIPMENT! Luckily the manager took care of the reservation staff snafu ... the front desk needs a do over. Some of the wait staff in the venue was rude, and dismissive and often overheard making scathing comments under his breath as he passed by tables... he had an entire section angered but no other wait staff would give any body his name. So we could speak with the manager. He was a short pudgy Latino guy VERY RUDE ! HE SHOULD BE LET GO! The 2nd eve the bar staff seemed overwhelmed .. some were nice some were not! I don't think Yoshi's is ready for something as large as a Netflix special being filmed there until staff is retrained on customer service! The manager was all hands on deck and he worked to give people the best experience. The lil geisha doll at the front desk never acknowledge us as we stood waiting to be seated at the counter. For appetizers, started off with 5 piece Kobe Beef Skewers. Very delicious and tender. Had like 3 nice chunks per skewer with green onion between and a teriyaki sauce to it on a bed of spring mix and mini tomatoes. I'll be buying like.. 3 of these next time. We also selected the Tiger Shimp Tempura which came with a yummy sauce and lemon. For our entree, we got the Yuzu Sea Bass with rice which was pretty good. Comes with a side of baby carrots and squash with a very light butter and yuzu sauce. We also decided to get Snow Monkey roll and Lobster Tempura roll because SUSHI! Went to Yoshi tonite with some new friends to listen and watch the Spinners. It was phenomenal as the old songs were attuned to a modern singing theme. Yoshi's service people were excellent, very organized in terms of being seated, getting drinks and payment during the show. Yoshi is located within the garage so it's a short walk from the garage to Yoshi. The Spinners were fantastic and very happy if we took photos or videos upon their request...as long as you post in their Facebook site. Excellent show! read more

Went to the 8 pm show to see Bobby Caldwell. Since we did not dine at Yoshi's that evening to get reserved seating, we took a table right behind a low wall partition at the back of the room. It was just off center stage but the place is relatively small so there was no bad seat! ( just the two people directly in front of me that kept putting their heads together obscuring my clear view) As for the performance, Fantastic! The clear speaker acoustics were excellent and I could not sit still the entire performance! Our drink and food waiter was a pleasure being prompt and cheerful as expected and the drinks and food were tasty. The AC fan was nearby making the temp perfect! I love live music in a grown & sexy environment. I've been to Yoshi's twice, once for Mint Condition and last Friday for Tony, Toni, Toné. Now, the seating is very tight and if you're not in a group of four, you'll end up sharing a small table with usually friendly strangers. If you eat dinner before your show you'll have your seats reserved closer to the stage and get priority seating before the doors open to the general public. Oh snap, I almost forgot to mention the food which is incredible. Very deliciously fresh sushi and cocktails. It's so dope to have a great dinner followed by live music or comedy. Other notes: - In the heart of gentrified Jack London Sq. - Parking is validated and costs $2.75 for about 2 hours. Sweet! - Always great performers (Sinbad is coming soon). - If you're seeing a show get there early and grab your seat. Lots of times the staff will try to shuffle you around and they will def squeeze people in and practically sit them on your lap. - Additional table service once inside the music venue also. read more

Yoshi's line management is very poorly run. I came to see Richard Elliot on 3/8 for the Saturday evening show. I arrived to Yoshi's at 6pm hoping to get a good spot since I wasn't planning on having dinner at the restaurant. I read from recent reviews and on the website that the only way to get a decent table is to have dinner there. I checked in at the ticketing desk and verified where the line was supposed to start. The girl at the front desk advised that the line for general admission starts right outside the door from the ticketing desk. I was the first person in line. Eventually, the bouncer/security guard came out about 6:30 and there about 5-6 parties behind me. He scanned my ticket and told everyone they were in the right spot and to sit tight. Thankfully they had heat lamps to keep everyone out of the rain. At about 6:50pm (10 minutes before doors), the security guard invited everyone inside. Instead of escorting the line, he just disappeared. When I stepped inside there were 50+ people standing in a long line. I figured those were the people who had reserved seats from dinner, boy was I wrong! They were actually all waiting for general admission!! I was so pissed. I approached the security guard (same person who told me to stand outside) and asked him why 50+ people have now cut me in line. He shrugged his shoulders and walked away. I then proceeded to get in the back of the line. The 50+ people ahead of me were all seated in premier seats and I got literally put in the corner, far away from the stage. I approached the "club manager" and gave him some feedback about the whole line management failure. He too, had little to say and didn't even bother apologizing. For a club that prides itself on providing the Bay Area with great Jazz, they certainly do not do a good job managing the line or expectations. I would have at least appreciated an apology and a drink or something on the house, but nope, I was completely ignored. Being first in line basically puts you in the back corner shoehorned in with everyone else. I also found the seating in the G.A. area to be very tight. About 5 chairs are stuffed in for what is clearly meant to be a two person table. The food/drink service at the tables is alright. I found it disruptive to be closing my check during the final part of the show. Why not take a card for every table and deliver it at the end? A lot of us were waiting 10+ minutes for all the credit cards to be properly delivered and sent back for a receipt. I will not return to Yoshi's anytime soon. read more

Tonight was magical.. Violinist Damien Escobar strung the entire audience into a trance with his violin. The watermelon splash helped a tad bit. The chicken ker'age was fried to a perfect crisp accompaniment by a side of combination regular and sweet potato fries are garlic soy edamame. The service was prompt and efficient. No intrusive service during the performance. All staff ushers, ticket booth staff and servers worked synergistically like a well oiled machine! Way to go Yoshi's! read more

Normally Yoshi's is an automatic 5 star review. Sunday 8/6 the place stepped on its crank. The pork chop entree, normally the best of the list, had a huge chunk of gristly fat in it, so if anyone from Yoshi's reads these tell the meat buyer to check the vendor. If it happens again, it goes back. The kicker is the 18% "gratuity" added to the bill in the music hall. What if I don't believe the server has earned a gratuity? I've never had a bad server (a few clueless ones over the years, but very seldom), but the auto gratuity grates, and I will definitely order the minimum next time. read more

I love the fact that this place is so close to my work, conveniently settled close to different restaurants around Jack London Square as well as the parking garage nearby. Specializes in Japanese cooking and sushi, it's definitely a place to go. This place provides live music from local artists to famous celebrities. The best way to get great seats for a concert is to make a dinner reservation and let the hosts know that you're there for dinner and concert. They will take care of your sitting area as you're having dinner. Though food is on a higher scale of the price, it's all worth it. Come check it out. The only thing I didn't like was at the Scarface concert someone was smoking. I'm good for a lil weed smoke but not in that tight quarters and jammed pack with ppl. We ordered the panko breaded oysters for appetizers. 15 minutes later Dan returns to take our entree orders. No appetizers. We order. My wife receives her sushi roll in about 15 minutes. No appetizers. Ask Dan about the appetizers and we were told the kitchen was behind. I have no problem with that but the appetizers should have come out first. Instead of saying "let me check" we were informed by Dan that he had no control over the kitchen. Eventually my roll entree comes out. No appetizers. My wife's salad is served. No appetizers. We ask for our bill because we were ready attend the show. What, the appetizers are served. I'm sorry Yoshi's but this was unacceptable. I will say that Dan did comp us for the appetizers but that does not make up for the quality of service we received. Yoshi's is better than this. Thanks for letting me vent. This was my 1st time here at the Oakland location, and I left satisfied. Parking- very close! Walking distance, safe in garage or street. Design/layout- it wasn't romantic like SF, and it was tight with the seating for dinner as well as the concert area. I felt like we all are looking at each other's plates and a part of their conversation. Most of the dining area by window. Food- I enjoyed the sushi and kabobs. I wasn't wowed.. But it was tasty. $88 dollars no drinks. Drinks- $25 for two cocktails, that makes me limit my drinks We saw the act, Musiq Soulchild, and the sound wasn't the best. Awesome place for dinner and music. First time visiting this location after going to the San Francisco spot many times before they closed a few years ago. I wasn't sure what to expect but was pleasantly surprised. Had dinner reservations and tickets to see one of my favorite Jazz artists Gerald Albright. My my my was it a what a Fantabulous time we had!!!!! Japanese/Sushi restaurant and full bar. The service was excellent, the food was delicious and the concert was short but OUTSTANDING! Gerald Albright put on a high energy non stop hour long super super super performance. Restaurant and ambience was great. We had edamame, Kobe beef skewers and mango tuna sashimi appetizers and moms chicken teriyaki. All nicely prepared and brought to the table very fast. 2 glasses of wine and warm brownie with vanilla bean ice cream during the show topped off the evening. All in all a fantastic evening and memorable night at Yoshi's Oakland. Dinner, tip, concert and parking about $200. Excellent!!! read more
