A review for dudes new to spray tans: Ok guys check it out. I get it! You wanna look awesome. Problem: You're pale, your work at the gym isn't showing as much as you'd like, but you don't want to look 50 when you're 35 from countless sunburns. But spray tanning?! NO WAY! These ladies with these whack spray tans. You'd never look like that! Check it out! You don't have to! Those ridiculous looking spray tans are from automatic booths and cheap drugstore bottles. They are applied unevenly and they look TERRIBLE. Insert the CUSTOM spray tan, my doubtful manly friend. Think of the booth and bottle tans as like taking your ride through a gas station car wash and think of the custom tan as a total detailing of your vehicle. I promise you've seen tons of ladies and fellas with these custom spray tans, but you never knew it! You just thought they were real cool, but you couldn't quite put your finger on why. Now that we've established that custom spray tans, done by hand, look AWESOME. You gotta know who does em best. Here in Tampa - it's YouGlow! People are always fooled by my natural looking custom spray tan! Take, for instance, this real life example: Karen from accounting: "You got some sun this weekend!" I came down to Sarasota for a three day weekend but had time before picking up a friend on a different flight coming into Tampa so I decided to get a spray tan. I chose this place based on the reviews here and I am so glad I did. I am pretty pale and can only go for a light shade. And it doesn't take a big mistake to make me look orange or unnatural, sometimes it just happens because my natural color is so light. I have had my fair share of fake tan embarrassments and fouls. Rest assured that the products this place uses and the people they employ are magical, and they will create a look that's right for you. The technician was funny and easy going, the process didn't feel awkward or embarrassing at all since she made me feel so at ease. The whole process takes approx 10-15 minutes. I just got a versapro spray tan in preparation for my sisters out of town wedding this weekend. I'm leaving town in a couple hours. (Background: My little sister is on edge, freaking out about every detail. I am receiving the brunt of her stress, you could say tensions are a little high) So I come to get the spray tan, the employee calibrates the tanning machine, I get in the machine, press the green button, and turn in circles a couple times....when I came out of the machine, the employee is clearly annoyed and is like, "Sooo what went wrong in there?"....I'm like, "wait, what do you mean?" she's like, "well you clearly messed with the machine and now you're going to be wayyy too dark...." I'm like, "what? I didn't input anything to the machine." I explained that I touched the green button only. I explained a little bit about the wedding and asked her what to do about being the wrong color. She seemed pretty positive that I "HAD to have input xyz into the machine" and you're skin might be okay but could look terrible but that's you're own fault. LOL whaaaat....I truly didn't do anything to the machine and my sister is going to freak out if I show up with a botched spray tan. SO since this employee was of ZERO help and seemed frustrated with ME, I left and am scrubbing my body off as we speak. I WANT MY MONEY BACK and I want the rest of my spray tan package refunded. Deserves every five star rating. This place is incredibly thorough. They email you a list of instructions before your appointment. I never thought to use sugar to exfoliate, but it worked wonders! I followed every single instruction to a tee and I left with a beautiful tan. I did a custom spray tan and the woman who did it was amazing. I've never felt so comfortable standing naked getting sprayed with cold air. She kept up a cheerful chatter during most of the session. She was definitely a pro. I did this for a boudoir photoshoot and the photographer even asked me where I got the tan done. She said it looked amazing! I was trying to even out my terrible tan lines and they did a fantastic job. The photographer said she didn't even notice my tan lines! Went here for the first time after the person who usually does my spray tan had a family emergency and had to cancel. The tan here was amazing. The girls will explain everything to you when you come in and make sure you feel comfortable. Also, make sure you follow the pre-tan instructions for the 24-48hrs prior. The tan itself came out even and lasted a long time. One thing that was great about this tan I noticed was that it wore off very evenly too. Lasted me about a week. Unfortunately, I got a ton of bug bites during the photoshoot I needed the tan for so I had to put special cream on to treat them, but had I not had to do that I think it would've lasted longer. If you have been searching for that perfect Trump glow then this is the place for you. I purchased a custom spray tan for a wedding I was in. The girls that work there are very nice and the whole process for a custom spray tan is extremely thorough. They start by telling you that "light" is a healthy glow, "medium" will look like a base tan, and "dark" looks like you just got back from vacation. So I went with medium. The girl who did my tan let me know that it can show up grey-ish while it's in the darkening process which I was fine with. What I was not warned about it that I would look like a Cheeto 48 hrs later. There is literally nothing natural about the tan I got. We had planned to go on a cruise and I was a little embarrassed - my body had not seen the light of sun in quite a while leaving my already fair skin the lightest shade of pasty white. That same fair skin of mine has never had luck with self-tanners - streaking, orange, and they stink! And, the older I get the more conscious I am about UV exposure, skin spots and cancer (really just the wrinkles) from tanning beds. Based on the reviews, I was curious if this would be a better option so I gave the custom tan a try. I absolutely LOVED it! The color was great - very realistic and lasted quite some time (even under the activities of a cruise vacation - heat, water, sand, dancing, etc). No smell, no transfer, blended perfectly on my hands/feet/knees, etc. My (neglected) 40+ yr old body is not necessarily easy on eyes... However, I felt COMPLETELY comfortable the entire (entirely nude) session. The process was professional, very detailed and all around pleasant. Both Mary Jane and Amber were super sweet and knowledgeable. Another note, since I had never had a custom spray tan before, "I" thought I'd give it a try and come back right before my vacation for a 'touch-up'. At my initial consult, they explained that may not be the best idea based on the timing and had me come back a short time later right before my cruise. They assured me I would be happy with the results. I appreciated this since they could have easily pocketed a few extra dollars - their main concern though, was the quality of service I would receive. I'm really impressed - with the overall service and the actual tan itself. My experience easily warranted the 5 stars and I will DEFINITELY be back if not on a regular basis. PS. A wedding with a Tampa friend brought me into Tara's studio, and I knew I didn't want to be the obvious midwestern girl by my pasty skin. I was super pleased by the results. Tara took the time to explain the way she does her tan, including providing the wipes to get yourself and your skin all set to be sprayed into bronze perfection. The result? I got to look Florida golden for...well, six days and counting! No streaks, just pretty golden skin that doesn't look too much, mainly because Tara will guide you to your perfect shade. It also bears noting that Tara made me feel extremely at ease (something that is very important when you are baring yourself completely to a stranger for the first time) and was nice as could be. A great stylish yet comfortable and clean place to go to get a tan in Tampa. The girls at the reception area are friendly and not snooty. The girl who gave me my tan was nice, discreet and very thorough. What separates this place is that they actually take the time to ask why you are tanning (i.e "what's the occasion?") and if you've ever done it before - which is super important bc I didn't know this , but you need to wear very loose fit clothing when you leave. The other tanning salon I visited in Tampa didn't tell me that. They tell you step by step what you need to do to prepare for the spray tan and how to keep it. They ask for the occasion to help you decide on a shade which is helpful because you may want a different shade for a cruise vs a wedding vs just trying to empress that guy at the beach ;-) The tan was a beautiful authentic looking tan. You don't leave here looking like an Oompa Loompa! My appt was at 6pm on thurs and by Fri am, The tan fully developed into a rich brown. My boyfriend was very pleased with the results and so was I. the tan lasted the entire cruise (fri-sun). It never smeared my white jeans after I took my shower! Don't get the tan too far in advance of when you need it (going on a cruise, wedding, etc) because it develops overnight and fades in about 3-4 days. It never fades into an orange color either. My only complaint is that they don't have any organic tanning solutions. In their defense, neither does any other establishment in Tampa, which I find shocking. In Atlanta (where I'm from) a lot of places offer organic spray tans. This is FLORIDA, where people need to tan for the beach! Why aren't there more options here!?!? Oh well. Tampa is behind in everything so I guess this is no exception. I don't always go for a tan, but when I do, I go here. read more
