As we wandered about Chinatown this afternoon in search for fresh vegetable just so that I could cook a couple of meals at home, we came upon You Market II in the Kekaulike Market, next to Maguro Brothers. Whaat? You Market II? Where's its original location? Oh, no matter, this Asian green grocer has quite the fresh selection to choose from.
We found nice bunches of scallions (green onions), bitter melon, squash, long eggplant, string beans, okra and even winged beans aka Goa beans. With our purchase in tow, we rushed home to make a vegetable dish with the addition of our roast pork from Nam Fong and shrimp sauce. Hm, can you guess what dish I made? Hint: Philippines.
We'll be back for more as we enjoy eating vegetables - fresh or raw or cooked in various cultural styles. read more
