The spouse brought home a bag of their almond cookies. I had high hopes for this Chinese version especially coming from a Chinese bakery. On the outside they looked great. But after the first bite, it was pretty disappointing. First off the density was very light and hollow, the total opposite of what I was expecting. Secondly and most importantl, the flavors weren't there. No butteriness and almost no almond flavor. OVERALL: If I'm going to indulge in fat and cholesterol, I want it to be worth it!
We came on a Friday morning and there was already a line formed outside of the door. This was our last day in Oahu and wanted to eat something simple for breakfast. We tried a few of the classics: Baked and Steamed Cha Siu Manapua, Pork Hash, Shrimp Dumplings, Half Moon, Hot Dog Bun, and Custard Bun. Everything was really good and we were surprised with the amount of filling considering that it wasn't too expensive. I wish there was regular shoyu instead of just mustard shoyu and chili sauce. This place is grab and go with no seating. Street parking around the bakery can be difficult. ig: @cravingswithcat
We came here because we heard about their peanut and sesame candy. They also have ha gao and sui mai. I also ordered a curry chicken baked bao. The peanut candy was pretty pricey. The curry bao was different.
A true staple in the area! Everyone's go to spot for dim sum, and Chinese snacks, manapuas, gau, Jin dui, Jung, and all things delicious. In the heart of Chinatown, right by the old Nam fong. One of my favorites is definitely the Jung. Hard to find delicious traditional sticky rice now and sing cheong Yuen does it best. Of course the manapua gotta highlight too. Run by lovely workers, there's always a line but it moves quick! Stop by the bakery and try out all the goods! Thank you for everything you do for the community!
Absolutely THE best baked manapua in the state and that's coming from a very critical manapua'er. If I could eat these every day, I no doubt would but the jeans will not be very happy about that. While the steamed ones are great too, there are still other contenders for that. The baked ones truly have no rival though! There other pastries are great too like the custard buns and the custard tarts, although I recently tried their layered rice cake and while huge, they were a but underwhelming. I think that's because I remember the ones my dad used to bring home that had the super thin layers that you could peel off layer by layer and enjoy them for what seemed to be an eternity.
This place has probably one of the best char siu manapuas on the island. Located in Chinatown, it's a must to place to take out some awesome dim sum. Street parking is limited and there could be a lineup outside the small but efficient shop. My favorites are the baked manapua, shrimp dumpling and pork hash. The manapua had a generous amount of filling and baked perfectly. Prices were affordable. I always stop by when I'm in the area. It wont disappoint. Service was fast and friendly. Thank you.
This is not your traditional bakery. They sell a lot of Chinese foods. They have dim sum, candied fruits and nuts, moon cakes, etc. My two favorite things to get are the pork jin dui and pork hash. My co-worker brought in some items the other day. People love their manapuas, but I've never tried one from here. I'm not a fan of local manapua with the thick breading. I like the traditional steamed Chinese manapua. I got a piece of pork hash, shrimp dumpling and a curry manapua. The pork hash is always good. I like it with the shoyu/hot mustard. The shrimp dumpling had a transparent wrap and filled with huge pieces of shrimp. The curry manapua was ok. The thick breading is not for me.
First time here and there was a line outside. The wait wasn't very long and line and ordering were somewhat organized. They had so many things but I really wanted manapua and dim sum. I ordered the baked char siu manapua, baked curry chicken manapua, pineapple char siu manapua, custard tarts, shrimp har gow, and pork hash. I didn't care for the custard tarts or the pineapple char siu manapua. Custard tarts was crumbly and tasted mostly of egg and the pineapple crumb on top of the manapua was crumbly, messy and tasted odd together with the char siu. Everything else was excellent. Curry wasn't overpowering but just right, the char siu was flavorful, shrimp was thick and delicious, and pork hash tasted great by itself. When paying, I saw they charge a fee for using credit card so I paid in cash instead. If I make my way to Chinatown again, I'll definitely get my manapua and dim sum from here.
NoMG. My FIL was fixated on getting Sing Cheong Yuan manapua specifically when he was there with my husband last year. No other Hawaiian manapua would do. Cut to our trip to Hawaii and the hubs took us to pick up steamed and baked manapua along with pork shiu mai (they call them pork hash here) and shrimp hargow dumplings. Took them to a luncheon and they were amazeballs. I personally prefer the steamed manapua over baked but honestly both are delicious. The soft pillowy steamed bread is bouncy, not dry, and a perfect accompaniment to the generous cha siu pork filling tucked inside. The pork hash and hargow were also excellent. Also tried the deep fried sesame balls stuffed with sweet red bean and holy smokes this was the best I'd ever had. Not greasy and super crisp exterior. Everything we tried at SCY was amazing. Truly. Bring cash as there is a svc charge to use a credit card. Service is friendly and the ladies are sweet. We went to SCY 3 times during our short stay on Oahu and it was worth it every time. I asked if they shipped frozen manapua but they said no. So sad that I'll have to wait until my next Hawaii trip to have their top notch buns. I guess the FIL really knows good manapua!

I'd been settling for Chun Wah Kam because it was just my usual spot, even though I hated how the made the half moon in a shumai like shape. This place is legit and the only downside is the location! Pro tip: you can order ahead online, but don't be scared away by a line. It moves really quickly. Once you get to the front, you can view everything in the case and make your box. I got the pork hash, half moon, shrimp dumplings, baked and steamed manapua. I also picked up some rice cake, an egg tart and butter mochi. Pieces are huge and everything was absolutely delicious!! They charge .50 cents for the mustard shoyu or chili garlic. Even with the sauce charges, the items are very reasonably priced and delicious! Bring a friend to help with parking or circling the block while you get your food. Worth a trip to Chinatown for!

Delicious!!! Everything we got was broke da mouth good. It's a tiny bakery but there's always a line out the door. We came here several times during our trip and it was ALWAYS busy. But you don't wait that long. There's just street parking. You can order ahead to avoid the lines but again it goes fast. The price is reasonable. I don't give my 5 stars out so easily but this bakery was sooo good.

On a Saturday morning took a drive out to China town from Ewa Beach for sum Dim Sum. My sister wanted to checkout another Dim Sum place, I had suggested this place instead. I remembered once a friend had gotten me some manapua and pork hash from here. Sing Cheong Yuan Bakery a store front for order and go. No indoor or outdoor seating. We arrived at about 8 am, there were a few people in line, it went quickly. The lady who helped me repeated my orders and got my orders correct. Very well organized and efficient service! My order box #1 2 steamed manapuas 2 baked manapuas 8 Pork hash 1 Rice cake Box #2 1 steamed Manapua 12 Pork hash 6 Half moon 2 Rice cakes 2 Red bean Mochi Let me say all of it was yummy! and if you like fresh & authentic tasting Dim Sum. I highly recommend this place. It was definitely worth the drive! Don't forget if you like the mustard dipping sauce you'll have to ask. Cost is .25 or .50 cents. I'm not sure exactly how this dipping sauce is made but it was a perfect mixture. read more

We came here to buy some of their sesame macadamia nut candies. We didn't try their baked goods. There was a short line waiting outside. Most folks buying their various bakery items. So that speaks for itself! Small store display area but there were 6+ workers behind the counter helping customers so the line went fast. Hometown charm at its finest. By the way their peanut and or macadamia sesame nut candies are the bomb. read more
Always a line but prices and portions are great and dim sum is always fresh. We always have to grab this when we're in town. Also the line is out the door only because the counter is right at the door and usually it moves pretty fast. Mooncakes are also very fresh, the white lotus was quite nice. read more
Worth the Wait! Amazing Dim Sum. Even with a long line, this popular spot moves fast thanks to the efficient staff. I tried their famous oversized Shumai, BBQ Pork Buns, and sweet rice cakes--all were delicious! The buns stayed fluffy even after I got home, and the Shumai was incredibly satisfying and meaty. There are so many tempting options, so I recommend checking the menu online beforehand. No more Char Hung Sut (closed) so needed a new Dim Sum take out spot and this is it! Manapua is ono! And the other dim sum was good too! Their Ma tai su is different from Char Hung's in that it's not as dry and flaky. Theirs is more savory with a phyllo style dough, with a hint of a curry flavor. I did enjoy it and it was nice and filling. The service is fast and the ambiance matches the Honolulu Chinatown feel we've all grown up with. Don't forget to buy your sauce before you leave! You know it's good when the line for this place was 20+ ppl deep! We came here this morning at around 11am and there was a long line out the door. Thankfully, my parents preordered. This place is known for dim sum items and they did not disappoint! We ordered a little bit of everything: baked & steamed Charsui Manapua, pork hash, and egg tarts. Here's my family's review: 1. Baked Manapua: The bun was soft with a bit of sweetness. The filling is where it's at! It was filled with charsui and the bun wasn't too thin. The perfect ratio! 2. Baked Manapua: again, super soft bun again, filled with charsui. Honestly, it's preference for me when it comes to baked vs steamed. 3. Pork Hash: holy moly these are HUGE! The pork was so flavorful & had the perfect amount of seasoning. Sometimes it's too salty for me but this was perfect! Again, so much pork filling with a thin noodle but not too thin that it falls apart. I don't know how they do it! 4. Custard Tart: Omg, the best egg tart I've had! The crust was so buttery and flakey. It fell apart when I bit it, it was so delicate. The filling had a nice sweet, eggy flavor. Overall, I can see why there's a line out the door for this place. This is hands down the best Chinese bakery. The char siu su is a must order. It is a puff pastry absolutely packed with char siu. Like an unreal amount. The filling is insanely generous, which is perfect if you are a meat lover. The pastry itself is buttery, flaky, and crisp, and the meat to pastry ratio is chef's kiss. My second favorites are the char siu manapua, both steamed and baked. The baked version is slightly sweeter and finished with a nice glaze, while the steamed one is soft and classic. Both have a great meat to bread ratio, which is not always easy to find. The egg tarts were just okay, but the pork hash was massive and really good. Also, I would skip on the chicken manapua as its no where as good as the char siu. It gets super busy here, but honestly for good reason. Totally worth the wait. read more
Every time I'm out here, I have to make a stop. My parents wanted dim sum and I knew there was only one place to go to. There was a line when I got there but it moved pretty quick. I ordered two steamed manpua, one baked, seven pork hash and six egg custards. Here is where it was comical. There was a mother and daughter ahead of me, who were ordering, and the man that was behind me ordering too. We were on the right side of the shop. An older man came in behind us in his motorized wheel chair, and after speaking with the woman about what they had, ordered. However, we couldn't get around his wheel chair until he was done. Me: Well, we'll probably have to eat here now...so nice to met y'all! When he was done, we were released. It was very funny! read more
Kung Hey Fat Choy! Came by today to get nin gau cakes for the new year, and was surprised at the long line up Maunakea. Enjoyed chatting with the woman in line next to me while we waited our turn. It took about 40 mins to make it to the front. Gau came in 3 sizes: mini $4.75, medium $7.50, and a large pan. They accept credit cards as well as cash. They are a bakery, so many other treats were on offer as well. The gau here is very tasty, one of the best we've found in town. There are also moon cakes regularly sold, and during Moon Festival time, they also make some extra fancy ones as well. read more

Always a go to whenever I want Chinese dim sum and bakery goods! There are many options displayed to choose from between pork hash, ma tai su, dumplings, manapua, rice cakes, moon cakes, li hing mui and much more! They do get busy more typically in the morning lunch hours but they are open till 5PM everyday and I find it to be shorter lines during the afternoon. You could call to place an order but they do also deliver/pick up from DoorDash and UberEats. Chinese New Year is coming soon so they also had Gau and dried fruits. I'd recommend putting in an order ahead of time for a scheduled pick up especially if you'd want to place a big order. read more

Sing Cheong Yuan Bakery is one of those Chinatown gems that never disappoints. The moment you walk up, there's usually a line--but it moves quickly and for good reason. Everything is made fresh, and you can taste the care in every bite. The baked char siu bao are a must: slightly sweet, fluffy, and generously filled with savory BBQ pork. Their pastries are consistently soft, not overly sweet, and perfect with a cup of coffee or tea. Even the simplest items feel comforting and nostalgic. You'll feel right at home as soon as you step inside. Service is fast and efficient despite how busy they get, and prices are very reasonable for the quality and portion sizes. If you're in Chinatown and craving classic Chinese bakery treats, Sing Cheong Yuan is absolutely worth the wait. read more
I like this bakery and they've always treated me well until now. There's this new young girl and not sure what happened. I asked for 2 dozen chicken curry manapuas to bring back to the mainland, which they boxed in the back. Even confirmed before taking the boxes, which they taped, that it was chicken. Get to the mainland and it's pork!!! Brought it back for people who do not eat pork, super embarrassing! So I called the next day and I was refunded. read more
I still maintain, one of the best take out dim sum places in Chinatown... My go to place for take out manapua and dim sum when I'm in Honolulu Chinatown. The shrimp dumpling is full of flavor with really large shrimp (they don't skimp). Also the half moon is really good here! All in all, what you see in the photo came out to be about $26 - more than enough for lunch for 2 people! Give this place a try! read more
A friend asked me to pick-up some rice puffs for him when I was in Honolulu so during a previous trip. I located rice puffs sold by Diamond Bakery. I saw that they had a factory store so I headed out to the location and bought a tub. Unfortunately it wasn't the one that he liked. He figured out the one he liked is made and sold by Sing Cheong Bakery in Honolulu's Chinatown. On my trip to Honolulu last month I went on a quest to get the Rice Puffs he really wanted. It was quite an adventure, there was a bit of traffic during the middle of the day. Street parking is hard to find but if you circle long enough you can get lucky. The parking garages are a bit pricey. Some of the meters were broken but you can gamble and hike parking enforcement doesn't give you a ticket. Luckily I parked 3 spots away from the bakery so I could watch for Parking Enforcement. There was a short line so I didn't have to wait too long. I bought a tub of the Puff Rice and was on my way. I regret that I was in such a rush that I didn't order some of dim sum to try especially since parking is so difficult to find and I was there already. My friend said the Puff Rice is the best he has had. It was crunchy and fresh with a taste of peanuts and hint of ginger. He gives it 5 out of 5. I tasted it and it was as he described. Next trip, I plan to have someone go with me so I can drop them off to order food while I circle the block and come back to pick them up. They are popular and always have a line but if you are in Chinatown, make this one of your stops. read more
Hubby and I wanted a snack, something not too heavy so we ended up stopping by because we were passing Chinatown area. Thankfully there was parking right in front, and there was no line. They usually have a long line whenever we go. We love their pork hash and baked Manapua. Definitely want to try other food on the menu. read more
Not like Char Hun Sut of yesteryear where the items were in covered baskets or in trays to the left inside the kitchen counter: rice cakes(3 kinds), taro cake and ma tai su. They even made gon lo mein and chow funn. Ladies sat around a table on the far left making the dim sum- intriguing to watch their fingers mold the uniformed edges of a half moon or pat the final touch to a pepeiau. But here you can still get your dim sum fix plus more. Same long lines. Many more employees behind the counter. Items for purchase in plain sight. Ahhh...out with the old, in with the new. Trick is to come with someone and jump out to get in line. The driver is lucky to find street parking a few steps away. Perfect for lunch or to take as pot luck somewhere indoors. I saw they have really nice red boxes and small tote bags that look elegant and fancy if you don't need a larger reusable disposable fabric bag. The man behind me was grumbling loudly to his wife that the line wasn't moving. He said the trouble is people don't know what they want. His wife remarked looks like they are filling big orders. Despite that customer, the rest of us patiently wait our turn. It's part of the adventure for this shop in Historic Chinatown(I snapped a photo of a sign on a utility pole.) Bon appetit. Its a must stop! Parking can get tricky,line can get long but goes by quick. We got to try a couple of things they are known for. Baked char sui bao and steamed char sui bao are so good and pork hash is my fave and serving size is huge. We took it back to the hotel since we have a fridge and snacked on it!! read more

I knew I had to stop here during my visit to the beautiful island of Oahu! This place will be a must repeat on my next trip here! Food (5/5): First of all...THE SIZE OF EVERYTHING! Everything is huge and generously filled! We got red bean sesame balls and baked cha siu baos! Delicious! Both were fresh and perfect texture. Service (5/5): Super quick service! We had someone in our group go inside and order while we drove around the block to find parking but they called before we even got all the way around to say they got the goods! Ambiance (5/5): This place is homey and cozy. It's really quick service and reminds me of living in LA. The food is authentic, the people were friendly, and truly a gem. read more

Has anyone called to make a phone order? I've called so many times and no one picked up.
I have and it can be frustrating but they are very busy at times and don’t answer. I’ve found calling around lunchtime is next to impossible and I recommend, if you want anything for lunch, to call early, and if later on, after the lunch rush.
Do you have a separate line to pick up phone orders? Because the last two times I was there to pick up my order, I stood in that line to the right of the door, but other people with no phone order went ahead of me.
