But after the first bite, it was pretty disappointing. First off the density was very light and hollow, the total opposite of what I was expecting. Absolutely THE best baked manapua in the state and that's coming from a very critical manapua'er. If I could eat these every day, I no doubt would but the jeans will not be very happy about that. While the steamed ones are great too, there are still other contenders for that. The baked ones truly have no rival though! There other pastries are great too like the custard buns and the custard tarts, although I recently tried their layered rice cake and while huge, they were a but underwhelming. This place has probably one of the best char siu manapuas on the island. Located in Chinatown, it's a must to place to take out some awesome dim sum. My co-worker brought in some items the other day. People love their manapuas, but I've never tried one from here. I'm not a fan of local manapua with the thick breading. Always a line but prices and portions are great and dim sum is always fresh. We always have to grab this when we're in town. NoMG. My FIL was fixated on getting Sing Cheong Yuan manapua specifically when he was there with my husband last year. No other Hawaiian manapua would do. Cut to our trip to Hawaii and the hubs took us to pick up steamed and baked manapua along with pork shiu mai (they call them pork hash here) and shrimp hargow dumplings. Took them to a luncheon and they were amazeballs. I personally prefer the steamed manapua over baked but honestly both are delicious. The soft pillowy steamed bread is bouncy, not dry, and a perfect accompaniment to the generous cha siu pork filling tucked inside. The pork hash and hargow were also excellent. Also tried the deep fried sesame balls stuffed with sweet red bean and holy smokes this was the best I'd ever had. Not greasy and super crisp exterior. Everything we tried at SCY was amazing. Truly. Bring cash as there is a svc charge to use a credit card. Service is friendly and the ladies are sweet. We went to SCY 3 times during our short stay on Oahu and it was worth it every time. How have I never been here before? Easily the best half moon, pork hash and manapua on the island!! I'd been settling for Chun Wah Kam because it was just my usual spot, even though I hated how the made the half moon in a shumai like shape. This place is legit and the only downside is the location! Pro tip: you can order ahead online, but don't be scared away by a line. It moves really quickly. Once you get to the front, you can view everything in the case and make your box. I got the pork hash, half moon, shrimp dumplings, baked and steamed manapua. I also picked up some rice cake, an egg tart and butter mochi. Pieces are huge and everything was absolutely delicious!! They charge .50 cents for the mustard shoyu or chili garlic. Even with the sauce charges, the items are very reasonably priced and delicious! No more Char Hung Sut (closed) so needed a new Dim Sum take out spot and this is it! Manapua is ono! And the other dim sum was good too! Their Ma tai su is different from Char Hung's in that it's not as dry and flaky. Theirs is more savory with a phyllo style dough, with a hint of a curry flavor. We were gifted with goodies from Sing Cheong Yuan Bakery today. This is our first experience with the food from this business. The manapua had flavorful filling without too much bread. The pepeau was also flavorful and the pouch was light and delicious, not overly thick and chewy. There was a baked triangle filled with a pork filling. The pastry was light and delightful. Kung Hey Fat Choy! Came by today to get nin gau cakes for the new year, and was surprised at the long line up Maunakea. Enjoyed chatting with the woman in line next to me while we waited our turn. It took about 40 mins to make it to the front. Gau came in 3 sizes: mini $4.75, medium $7.50, and a large pan. They accept credit cards as well as cash. They are a bakery, so many other treats were on offer as well. The gau here is very tasty, one of the best we've found in town. There are also moon cakes regularly sold, and during Moon Festival time, they also make some extra fancy ones as well. read more

Baked Manapua: again, super soft bun again, filled with charsui. Honestly, it's preference for me when it comes to baked vs steamed. 3. Pork Hash: holy moly these are HUGE! The pork was so flavorful & had the perfect amount of seasoning. Sometimes it's too salty for me but this was perfect! Again, so much pork filling with a thin noodle but not too thin that it falls apart. I don't know how they do it! 4. Custard Tart: Omg, the best egg tart I've had! There are many options displayed to choose from between pork hash, ma tai su, dumplings, manapua, rice cakes, moon cakes, li hing mui and much more! They do get busy more typically in the morning lunch hours but they are open till 5PM everyday and I find it to be shorter lines during the afternoon. This is hands down the best Chinese bakery. The char siu su is a must order. It is a puff pastry absolutely packed with char siu. Like an unreal amount. The filling is insanely generous, which is perfect if you are a meat lover. The pastry itself is buttery, flaky, and crisp, and the meat to pastry ratio is chef's kiss. My second favorites are the char siu manapua, both steamed and baked. The baked version is slightly sweeter and finished with a nice glaze, while the steamed one is soft and classic. Both have a great meat to bread ratio, which is not always easy to find. The egg tarts were just okay, but the pork hash was massive and really good. A friend asked me to pick-up some rice puffs for him when I was in Honolulu so during a previous trip. I located rice puffs sold by Diamond Bakery. I saw that they had a factory store so I headed out to the location and bought a tub. Unfortunately it wasn't the one that he liked. He figured out the one he liked is made and sold by Sing Cheong Bakery in Honolulu's Chinatown. On my trip to Honolulu last month I went on a quest to get the Rice Puffs he really wanted. It was quite an adventure, there was a bit of traffic during the middle of the day. Street parking is hard to find but if you circle long enough you can get lucky. The parking garages are a bit pricey. Some of the meters were broken but you can gamble and hike parking enforcement doesn't give you a ticket. Luckily I parked 3 spots away from the bakery so I could watch for Parking Enforcement. There was a short line so I didn't have to wait too long. I bought a tub of the Puff Rice and was on my way. I regret that I was in such a rush that I didn't order some of dim sum to try especially since parking is so difficult to find and I was there already. My friend said the Puff Rice is the best he has had. It was crunchy and fresh with a taste of peanuts and hint of ginger. He gives it 5 out of 5. I tasted it and it was as he described. Next trip, I plan to have someone go with me so I can drop them off to order food while I circle the block and come back to pick them up. But here you can still get your dim sum fix plus more. Same long lines. Many more employees behind the counter. Items for purchase in plain sight. Ahhh...out with the old, in with the new. Trick is to come with someone and jump out to get in line. The driver is lucky to find street parking a few steps away. Perfect for lunch or to take as pot luck somewhere indoors. I saw they have really nice red boxes and small tote bags that look elegant and fancy if you don't need a larger reusable disposable fabric bag. The man behind me was grumbling loudly to his wife that the line wasn't moving. He said the trouble is people don't know what they want. His wife remarked looks like they are filling big orders.
