Good bobas are a treat that's in short supply around Indy. Youmi has them! What more could you want? If you're unfamiliar with boba tea, then you might not enjoy it. But if you like boba, Youmi offers a wide variety of flavored tea and bubble combinations that are sure to quench your boba thirst. The staff, I admit, are almost always young and have a disaffected youth thing going on. But I've never known them to be rude. You do need to have an idea of what you want, though, as they aren't great with recommendations. I also would suggest that Youmi should get some hot boba tea cups. Currently they don't offer hot boba because they don't have the cups for it, which is easy enough to fix! Hot boba is pretty common, and the cups are readily available. I've stopped in a few times now. This is a quaint store on broad ripple avenue. The people in the store have been absolutely wonderful. I've tried a passion fruit tea with traditional boba. It was very good. I've been told the mango smoothie is wonderful. I also had one of the crepes filled with blueberries. I'm sure the crepe has more calories than I care to know, but it was delicious. They also make a crepe with ham and cheese. I was told it's very busy during the summer months. There is limited seating. read more

My friend and I decided to stop in on a whim after visiting the record shop across the street. They don't have a lot of seating and the setup was a little strange, but it was clean and the woman at the counter was friendly. Their menu is huge! Stopped in with my wife craving a bubble tea and new to town this was the first place that popped up. $22 plus a 20% tip. The tea itself wasn't terrible but the boba tasted so strongly of cleaner or perfume that they were thrown away before we made it back to our car. But the service is really friendly, the prices are really good, and they have aloe vera as a topping which tastes good. The milk tea is nice, but not spectacular. The lemon tea is a little bland, not sweet enough, but interesting. The aloe vera topping makes it better. Overall I appreciate Youmi's in a city of little Bubble Tea (and nothing worth shouting about at all). It's a really nice little shop with cute decor. Nasty. Cute place but our drinks were not good and we ended up throwing them away. Half the tapioca were uncooked (hard). I didn't like the consistency of the lychee milk tea (chalky) and my boyfriend's mango strawberry smoothie had spots that were straight up sugar. To be completely honest.. terrible. One of the worst feelings is being hungry, or thirsty and having high expectations for something to be delicious and it turns out to be disgusting. I was eating outside and saw people coming out of a spot with pretty drinks. So I decided to go in and explore the menu. I opted for a ginger tea & honey bubbles. They didn't bother to ask what size I wanted so I had to get their attention and request a larger cup. The tea looked murky so I knew right away it was artificial flavoring.. but decided to give it a few tries, even asking a friend to take a gulp. We both agreed my tea was disgusting. Let me preface that this review is about my most recent experience at Youmi. I had gone a few times the previous year and absolutely loved their milk tea. However when I visited in mid-August, I was definitely disappointed. I am hoping it was a fluke, so the 3 stars combines my previous awesome experiences but the review below is an alert to the owners that changes are needed. So I am a boba fiend. There I have admitted it. That's the first step, right? Anyway, I love milk tea and I love traditional boba. When they bury me, may they do so with an cold boba milk tea in my hand so that I may enjoy it in whatever is next. Youmi used to be my go-to spot in Indy when the urge struck and I was in the Broad Ripple area. Their milktea was everything a boba-addict wanted. Perfectly cooked and fresh tea taste. Unfortunately on 8/15/18 at 12:27pm (a day that will live in infamy) my taste buds wept. I was wrapping up an appointment in the area when my stomach rumbled. Seeing I was in the Broad Ripple area, my thoughts immediately went to milk tea with boba which then lead to Youmi. I bee-lined my way to the establishment and entered. It was absolutely empty, but I didn't mind since it was a Wednesday afternoon. The sweet smell of crepes filled my nostrils and my taste buds danced in anticipation. I approached the counterto order a nutella custard strawberry hot crepe and traditional milk tea with boba. No sooner did these words leave my mouth when the darkness fell. Apparently they were out of traditional boba because the previous shift failed to make it. I was in shock. They had been open for 1.5 hours and didn't think to make more boba????? The guy behind the counter said it would be at least 30 minutes before the boba was done. I'm a patient person, but that is a stretch. My mind spun. The guy pointed out that they had popping boba and rainbow jelly instead. I am not a big fan of popping boba in drinks, only in fro-yo, so that was out. I hadn't had the rainbow jelly before so the guy gave me a sample. It had a similar texture to boba, but had a faint fruit taste to it. He recommended it to be the best alternative to boba for my drink. Taking his "expert" advice, I agreed to the switch. My order was completed quickly and the crepe smelled amazing when it came out. I received my tea shortly after and left, having to do more errands that afternoon. When I got back to my car, I tasted the tea and almost felt sick. There was definitely something off about it. I couldn't tell if it was the tea itself or the rainbow jellies. It was off-putting and truly discouraged further drinking. I did give it a few more sips to confirm the tears my taste buds shed. At this point in time, it was pouring outside so I did not wish to sprint back to the shop. The only redeeming element of the visit was the crepe. It was made well and certainly hit the spot. Unfortunately after that terrible milk tea, I don't think I will be back. I will stick with Yoya on 86th street instead. Save your taste-buds! read more

This was a fun stop along the quaint walk along Broad Ripple Ave. A small shoo with a wide variety of teas and smoothies and crepe desserts filled fruit and ice cream of choice! The passion fruit smoothie we bought had a wonderful flavor with perfect taste of tapioca and the Taro tea had a smooth taste of Taro! The crepe dessert had ample amount of freshly cut fruits along with my choice of ice cream to accompany the fruit. Luckily, it all sits in a cone-shaped plastic bag as the crepe got soft and soggy by the time i reached the bottom and it started dripping. Overall, the visit was fun as we sat and ate while.reading the graffiti on the walls, written by previous visitors over the years. (I love black tea, but this was my first ever boba.) I've only had chai from that national coffee chain, so to my tastes this was sweeter than I like and the chai seemed strong on clove (?) flavor. The boba pearls are chewy fun. I will order a boba tea again, and try a different flavor. Lots to choose. I've been trying to come out here a couple of times now, but they were always closed, even when the sign says that it should open. Just today, we got there at 7:30 and the door was already locked. I guess I expect places with bubble tea to be lively, fun, and music playing. Maybe that's just me. Anyway, the customer service was kind of blah. She wasn't rude but not very inviting. I walked in Youmi, and it felt very unwelcoming and unorganized. The writing on the wall looks very unprofessional and the random fan on the dining area. Tried this place finally and we loved it! My friend got a vanilla chai frappe (blended) with whipped cream and no boba. I got the vanilla chai milk tea (served over ice) with traditional boba. There are a million different tea flavors and they also have popping boba in all kinds of flavors if you prefer those in your tea. We also tried a crepe with strawberries, mango, vanilla gelato, whipped cream and strawberry sauce. Everything was made to order and delicious! Service was friendly and the inside of the shop was cute and clean. Will definitely come back again to try other flavors. I'm going to need to up my workouts as I'm going to be a regular at Youmi! They have a wonderful array of bubble teas. Our favorite though is the traditional bubbles and taro flavor! Their boba had the perfect consistency like gummies. Service was prompt and very polite! Can there be a crepe making class please :) The crepe was cooked to perfection. Slightly crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside. It is a generous portion, too. We can't wait to come back and try the different varieties. The owner was super friendly, talkative, and helpful in choosing out the drinks and she seemed to really be interested in her local customers lives. Youmi deserves five stars for their covid approach- very physically distant and several options for no contact payment and pickup. I really appreciate this both for their workers and as a consumer. In terms of boba I was a little more conflicted. There were no percentages offered for any of the usual items and I didn't see any signs that that was something they did on a regular basis anyways. So it came pretty sweet and with minimal ice but whatever. In terms of flavor I was pleasantly surprised by both the boba pearls and the taro flavor. I read a bunch of reviews because often bubble tea is pretty bad in the Midwest and at places with multiple things on the menu. The taro exceeded my very low expectations- it was good but not great. However the boba was excellent- the right amount and a great texture/flavor profile. I will be back again until I find someplace better (or gongcha/Kung fu comes to Indy) because taro is my favorite and it is drinkable. read more

Only reviewing the "milk tea" and how it was presented. As well as one of the workers that took my order. So first, as I was ready to order, the girl (I think her name is Kaitlin) that was taking my order is wayyyy too quiet. That's just my sole opinion based that I'm from California and grew up on milk tea joints and most Asian fusion milk tea establishments don't ever have bubble tea promoted on their menu. But hey it's DIFFERENT af out here in the east lol) As for the milk tea, I bought the Mocha and Tradition Milk Tea in both a large. I didn't taste much flavor with the mocha but knew enough to figure out which milk tea was which. Both were pretty bland but okay to come back for a different flavor off the menu. But because I would come back to try it out again, I gave this place another star. I gave it two original just because when I got my drinks, the plastic cover wasn't sealed all the way. It was dripping and spilling as she was giving me it. So I asked them to seal it again which wasn't a problem. It was when I got to my car, and shaked my milk tea so that everything was mixed that the seal was broken again. The same thing happened with my other milk tea as I got home. Great place to grab a taro boba and other milk tea flavors. My fave will always be Thai tea, honey milk dew, and taro. They have fruity flavored milk tea specialty as well. Boba by the way happens to be tapioca pearls but typically larger than what most people are accustomed to. Some people call it bubble tea but in Taiwan, where its originally from, you pretty much call it boba. There's hardly any parking so prepared to find a street spot nearby.
