TL;DR: Excellent customer service, fair pricing, and clear communication of expectations and pricing. A few weeks ago I had just gotten into Sturgeon Bay and my check engine light came on, shortly followed by my car warning me that my transmission was overheating. Panicked I pulled over and googled for mechanics and the top result was Young Automotive. I called and spoke with Nick, I explained my situation, that I was out of town, and that I was right down the road. They weren't able to look at my car until after the weekend, but they got me into a loner car, were super clear about what the cost would be for the loner as well as evaluating my car, and within 15 minutes I was on my way home. It turned out that the issue had warranty coverage with Ford and Young Automotive went above an beyond by transporting my car from their location over to the Ford dealership (Jim Olson) for me since I live 2 hours away. They extended my loner rental at the customer rate and when I showed up to return the loner and pick up my car from the dealership, they gave me a ride over so I didn't have to Uber or find a cab. I typically do research before I pick a mechanic, handyman, ext, however research wasn't really an option in this situation. I am beyond pleased with the amazing customer service, clear communication, and reasonable pricing. If you live in Sturgeon Bay and are looking for a mechanic I can't recommend Young Automotive enough. And if you are like me, just swinging through town and your transmission overheats, they are the ones I would call. read more

I am new to Door County and I was looking for a reasonable reliable auto service shop. Young sends out numerous coupons for basic service, oil change, flush and fill coolant, etc. I decided to try them. I was told that by friends that Young was one of the more expensive places but I decided to see for my self. I got an oil change and flush and fill coolant. using coupons It was a little more than I thought it should be but when I picked up the car and drove for a mile smoke started coming from the engine and the warning lights went crazy telling me to stop immediately. I saw the engine was very hot on the thermostat. They had flushed but not filled. There was no coolant in the radiator. I waited for the engine to cool down and I called them. I was told it was almost closing time and they might not be able to do anything. I immediately drove back with a hot engine. There was no excuse or attempt to rectify their mistake. In fact, they told me I should have checked the radiator before I left. I could have lost the whole engine. read more

I expect, as with other reviews here, that Young Auto will respond to this and attempt to negate the truth that they overcharge out of town customers simply because they can. So, just know as you read this review, how willing the upper management is to outright lie. We were on vacation in door county when we experienced a bad wheel bearing. I was confidant that was the problem based on the symptoms. I called 5 shops in and around fish creek (where we were staying) and Young Auto in Sturgeon Bay was the only one that was able to look at it - and potentially replace the bearing - in a day. We had to get home that same day so we had it towed there late morning. It was indeed a bad wheel bearing. They called after confirming it and said they were able to get the part locally and could replace it by 5 pm and that they would do a whole vehicle check as well. The quote seemed very high but, with no other option, we agreed to the $980. They did not do a whole vehicle check and the bearing noise returned on our 250 mile drive home. Found grease splatter inside wheel as well and had to have it re -repaired. Young did follow up a few days later and did suggest I call NAPA for a warranty claim on the part. It was during that process that NAPA rep said the exact bearing kit was under $200 wholesale cost to Young auto and $191 retail online to anybody. The line item on Young's invoice was $418. That's a 107% markup on the part itself -- with another $550 for labor to replace 1 wheel bearing. Young emailed me again in 2 days and, while I expressed appreciation for them following up, also told them their markup amount over the actual part price was outrageous. They doubled down and responded that retail cost IN THEIR REGION was $398. That was a lie as I called the exact NAPA in Sturgeon Bay just 2 miles from YOUNG auto and found retail was $240 and wholesale price to Young Auto was under $200. Some up charge amount is reasonable and expected but it was easy to fact check with NAPA and Young service manager simply lied again when I called them on it. Vacationing customers have to pay these huge up-charges to get fixed and get home so why not just admit they charge so much because they can rather than lie? So, their follow up did seem high level but that little bit does not justify: 1) overcharging SO MUCH for the part in the first place 2) shifting the responsibility for their failed repair to NAPA because they know I'm not going to return 250 miles for them to remedy 3) adding insult to injury by then lying a second time that the part cost $398 in "their region" when the sturgeon bay NAPA confirmed the cost to Young was $200 and only $240 RETAIL 4) any review response online when their MO seems to be to just lie again read more

The owner Nick is an absolute rip off. I was in town for work and my truck broke down I needed to find a mechanic and he could get me in. I'm starting to see why I got in so quick he inflates his price when somebody needs help. I also have a huge dent and chunk of paint taken out from that shop that the owner will not return my phone call on and I had three of my five lug nuts fall off while driving down the road. This company is not very professional they're more like scam artist find somewhere else take your car, even if it takes an extra day. I DO NOT RECOMMEN!!!! read more

In preparation for a long trip I had significant work done, including brakes, fluid flush and replacement, filters, etc. As usual the work was excellent, the communication with Fred and Nick was excellent and the work was done in a timely fashion. I have always received solid advice from them and would NEVER consider taking my car anywhere else! BTW, the trip ( 2,000+ rural miles) was made better knowing our car was well serviced, safer and 100% dependable thanks to the fine people at Young Automotive. Had brake problems while on vacation. After paying for the repair, two separate mechanic/automotive professionals in my family, based in WI, looked at my invoice and said the prices were significantly inflated. The total job for removing and replacing rotors, caliper and brake pads came to $1128.07 (including tax). Charges: Labor, including $33 for brake inspection, came to $256.66 without tax. Parts: Rotors: $255.40 brake pads: $100.07 Calipers $417.40 There was also a fee for $39.73 that was not itemized anywhere. I do appreciate that we were given prompt and courteous service, but was disheartened when I learned more about the pricing. read more

They charged me $600 to replace 6 spark plugs after my check engine light started blinking . Because this happened while I was on vacation and therefore did not have time to shop around they clearly took advantage of the situation. These guys clearly do not have honest pricing and given the opportunity, will take advantage. read more

My mother, a senior citizen, went to Young Automotive in Door County, Wisconsin to get her car diagnosed and fixed. Her car was running rough, the check engine light would come on, and the car was leaking oil. So she needed it fixed. After two different repair visits to Young Automotive, and after spending over $600, they were still unable to get the car to run correctly. They had the audacity to request a third visit in the shop where it would cost an additional $300+. The labor cost alone to change spark plugs on a 4 cylinder car was over $88.00. The check engine light would come on after the first two visits, and the oil was still leaking. It appears that Young Automotive was not interested in fixing the core problem. Her $600 in charges were for other non-related repairs like changing the oil, filter, lubing the differential & transaxle, and changing a couple belts. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT STILL COMES ON AND THE ENGINE STILL LEAKS OIL after both "repairs". My mother did what she could to hold back her tears at Young Automotive on her second consecutive visit, especially when they asked her to schedule a third appointment. Needless to say, my mother went immediately to get a second opinion from another local repair shop. The diagnoses for her car was to replace the head gasket and valve cover gasket set...which makes A LOT more sense than "fixing" the problem with a lube job and oil change. I believe that Young Automotive makes their money by getting customers to make multiple appointments to fix a problem, rather than to properly diagnose and fix the core of the problem on a single visit. There are alternatives to Young Automotive in Door County. To save you the frustration (and the money in your pocketbook), you may want skip Young Automotive. read more

We needed a battery for 2008 G8 that was difficult to find, not available at any of the local auto parts store a couple years ago and Young Automotive was able to get us one quickly. We should have reviewed then. Now today we needed a rental car on the spur of the moment and Fred worked with us and was able to accommodate our needs. My wife, daughter, and I were on vacation in Door County when our rental car picked up a screw in the tread. I showed up first thing in the morning, and even though I didn't have an appointment they squeezed me in. I was in and out in a half an hour and back to vacation. Disappointed they decided to bully me, after I had been a loyal customer for many years. I had to find another repair shop once my financial circumstances changed drastically. A possible problem with a repair they'd done two years prior arose, and rather than rationally investigate the possibility, they elected to treat me rudely and infer I was lying about the mechanic who asked to speak to them about it. Not once did I wonder if I was getting a good deal or if they were being honest with me about my problems and how much they would cost to repair. They said we needed new light bulbs and it was going to be over $400. We said ok, we needed them. Brought my sisters Suburban in after traveling from St Louis for vacation in Door County. We experienced a rattling in the back tire during the drive up and intermittently while we were here. We had several recommendations from locals to take it to Young's. They diagnosed it quickly and removed a part of the parking brake that had broken off. When looking for an automotive repair shop, I am always concerned about the integrity of the organization. And Young Automotive has treated me with integrity each time I have needed repair, even though my license plate is from Illinois. Abut 12 months ago when my tires, alignment, etc. were giving me problems and I brought my car to Young Automotive, rather than repairing them and then charging me for the repair, they reminded me that the issue may still be covered under the warranty and suggested that I try the dealer. This week, when I had another problem with one of our cars, I contacted Young Automotive. They informed me of the time it would take to do the repair, but beat the time by a full day. The investigation was thorough and the repair was made with a reasonable price. Young Automotive has treated me fairly, promptly and with courtesy each time I have been there. I am grateful for a place that I can trust to take our car when it needs repair! read more

Last year I needed my car aligned. I was told they could only do the front end because there were bolts in the rear end that they needed to adjust to align, but couldn't because they were too rusty and they didn't want to break them. Instead of trying to loosen them up they just didn't do it. Had the bolts broke, I would have paid to have them replaced, but it wasn't even an option. A year prior I stopped in with my truck to have it aligned. It was pretty much the same thing. I was told I needed to replace the pitman arm. Unable to afford it at the time, I declined to have the work done. A few weeks later I went to another shop to have it aligned in my hometown. I had told them that I needed the pitman arm replaced. After about a half hour they told me that my alignment was done and there was nothing wrong with the pitman arm!?!? Needless to say, I will never be back, I wouldn't recommend anyone to them. I believe the service is great if you are a local dedicated customer and they know you, however if you are a new customer you will not receive the same service. If they are your only option, proceed with caution and question or get a second opinion on everything!!! read more
