The Young Champions martial arts program is a great way to get your kids involved in self defense at an affordable price! It builds self-confidence, teaches them discipline and it's great exercise for them. My kids have been part of the program for several years now and have competed in several tournaments. My son enrolled with Young Champions in Hollywood in September this year. He loves the classes! The Sensei (instructor) at the location here (Cheremoya Ave elementary) is so good with children - patient but firm. And the value for money is second to none. My child is attending the young champs cheer team at the leona cox elementary school in santa Clarita, I like the way they coordinate the girls though, the first 2 times was so out of control but they organized better in the 3rd class and my daughter is happy to be attending and have a nice choreographer with a nice big space. I like the way the parents do not have to purchase the uniform at once but one item at a time which gives the parents time and space for purchasing. Though it would be very convenient the program to be able to receive credit cards some parents forget at times, the money cash know in the days most use credit card or debit card.Thanks for a wonderful program that lets the girls compete! read more

Head the warning folks the tournaments are run horribly Our children joined Young Champions the end of 2013. They recently competed in the January 2014 Karate Tournament in Santa Ana CA. What a bad experience. The Sensei's were all young and just stood around a talked the whole day. The main lady that was wearing a black sweatshirt that seemed to be running it (she was also announcing the winners) was incredible rude. Wow how dare she talk to people in the manner that she was talking to people. For example my daughter won 4th place in an event and her comment was "well at least she tried". How rude, especially to a child. Also there was a strawberry blond lady with her hair pulled back in a pony tail and wearing a GI. She was also rude. Parents were told that they could come up and take pictures of their children while they were receiving their awards, at one point a parent asked a question about the specific award that was just handed out and she told them that parents could not be in that area and it was an award for 1 of 2 things but she didn't know. So when asked if she could look it up and tell the parent the other lady chimed in and said this area is not for adults. Hello you have been announcing that parents can come up and take pictures right there (but apparently you can't ask questions). Wow!!! Then there was some down time prior to one event and certain sensei's were pulling their students out of the stands and practicing with only them. That is a disadvantage if you ask me, especially if there are other competitors that are in the stands that don't have their sensei to practice with. If they are going to do that they should announce that all competitors are welcome down on the floor to practice and go over the next event. I am very unhappy with the way this event is run. I don't think we will participate in another one. Now we can see why non of the other students in our city participated in this event. read more

I am extremely upset with this company. My daugher went to two cheer classes and loved it. She was so excited about the competion. They told us we had to buy shoes and Pom poms. Fine, we bought them. There was a holiday this past week. Today, the coach's facebook status mentioned the season being cancelled. Huh? No one from the team was notified. We all started calling them today and were all told that they DID call everyone. Nope! No one from the team was called. We wouldn't have known if the coach didn't mention it on facebook. Then, they told us that they would only refund the classes not taken, no registration fee, no pom poms or shoes or anything else we HAD to buy. They will only refund us with a cancelled check. (Front and back). My bank charges $14 to get a copy of the check. So, now I have to pay $14 for a refund? Total scam. I am very upset and so is the rest of the team! I hope they realize they burned their bridges in Simi Valley. I still want my full refund! read more

My 5 year old tried Hip Hop Dance this year. 2 words describe my experience: Unprofessional and unstructured. This may have been a different case with another instructor but I will never know. Our coach didn't seem as though she had any experience with teaching 5 year olds dance moves. She would have been better with 9-10 year olds in my opinion. We just went to the first competition in Jersey City 2 weeks ago and it was so completely unorganized I swore we would never go again. Not only did they tell the parents to leave their kids with the coaches in a huge bubble auditorium 3 flights up from where the actual competition was being held (a total of about 7 coaches to 70+ kids--I don't think so), but then after the competition the kids left the gymnasium and parents were not allowed to leave the gymnasium until all of the kids were out in the hallway (right by the exit leading out to the streets of a TERRIBLE part of Jersey City). Completely outrageous and unorthodox. At the final practice they had an awards ceremony. 5 out of the 12 kids showed up (same amount of kids that showed up at the competition). My son got a medal for perfect attendance, and so did the other 4 children. But then the other 4 children got a plaque and an achievement certificate.....not my son! After he got upset and asked me where his other awards were, I approached the coach and asked. The response that I got was "a few weeks ago you had the chance to have your child evaluated and you didn't pay the $10 so unfortunately he doesn't get them." I advised her that it was not disclosed to me that my child would get these awards for his evaluation otherwise I would have paid the $10. I was told "oh I tried to tell all of the parents that's what they would get, I'm sorry." Clearly no remorse and obviously she doesn't have children otherwise she would have been a bit more compassionate....now I'm going to get a plaque made for him so that he's not so upset. You can pay the same amount (maybe a few dollars more) for a more structured, more gratifying experience where your children can get one on one instruction.....which is what I'm signing him up for now. Trust me, from parent to parent.....go somewhere else!!!!!! read more

This is not a good company. They don't care about that teams aren't in Orange County and have no regard for the lack of consistency of the coaches for teams down in SD. We were promised refunds and not every parent was given one, we found a coach we want to keep but the company refuses to let her stay. The competitions are always really far away for those of us that live in South SD so we never have the whole team show up which makes our routine have to change last minute. They just don't care about teams/ locations that don't win enough for their liking. read more

The instructors and class sessions are not the issue here. My beef is the complete cluster bomb that occurs at the competition that could be resolved simply and cheaply with SIGNAGE to direct parents to helpful registration and trophies, and participants to their group's staging area. This is our second event and both were the same frustrating disorganized mess. We attend the Glendale karate location and have been since 2009. It has changed Sensei a lot more than we want and now it seems that this specific area is either orphaned or not being considered a profitable group because when we started going here it was fun, organized, focused on proper martial arts discipline, now it's just boring, dead and undisciplined. We used to go to a lot of competition but has stopped because our Glendale chapter seems to be going down the drain fast. We miss Sensei Felipe. We've lost quite a number of involved families. The new Sensei we have is trying her best to get a good session going but she seems inexperienced, and unorganized. She reads a lot from the manual and the class is SLOW and undisciplined. We may have to move to another Sensei and we love Sensei Nate who we've had the chance of witnessing when he had to sub. Though the drive to Azusa is far and on week nights, we may just have to go. It is sad that the program in Glendale seems to be caving in. It feels like there's a lot of politics involved... Oh well. read more

After 4 loyal years my 8 year old daughter is dropping cheer! It has been a roller coaster from season 1. Our San Diego location has been nothing but disappointing for both parents and students. Supporting my daughter's passion I've tried being patient and understanding. From last minute cancellations, uniform ordering discrepancies, picture day cancellations, misinformed cheer competition details and the list goes on! Cheer coaches were different every season. Once a different coach was assigned mid-season throwing all the girls off. Every season, every coach had misleading information. Corporate in north county were always to blame. Cost and Fees due every season are more than sufficient to provide a more organized cheer team. I've tried to guide my daughter to other cheer companies but failed. The last coach has made the girls loose dedication and team spirit. My daughter has asked me to never bring her back. I prepaid for the entire season which is non-refundable. What's most disappointing is the money and time invested for 4 years, in the trash. I am currently shopping around for a cheer team for my daughter. This was a perfect life lesson for her, if her talent wasn't appreciated here someone else will. Not settling for what's at reach but for what she deserves. Mommy rant over! read more

Young Champions offered a cheerleading class in Dublin, Ca. They called me just hours before the 3rd class and said the session had been canceled due to a location problem. I was promised a full refund for the inconvenience and was told to fill out a refund form to get my money back. One week after I sent in the form I still hadn't received a check so I called and they told me it was on the way. 4 days later, still no refund so I called back and got a voicemail. Left a message and someone called me back the next day explaining that I wouldn't be getting a full refund for the class my daughter attended and the pom poms I purchased unless I returned them. I explained that the original person had told me I'd get a Full refund, but whatever. One week later and I'm still waiting for my refund. This started in February. It's now April!! read more

My 2 girls have been in Young Champions Karate for about 5 years and I have been very pleased with the results. Besides being able to protect themselves, they have shown a big improvement on courage and confidence. They are taught to respect themselves and each other. I only wish that they had more centers open in our area and that the tournaments weren't so far away. I have known this organization for many years, and they are really great at working with children, teaching them needed skills, and helping them develop maturity and a strong sense of self. Children today need an outlet, and teaching karate and cheer leading (among others) makes them great for after-school programs. This is a GREAT organization that adds much to the school and education experience. Don't let your children sit around exercising their thumbs on phones. Let them learn, play and grow! There is NOTHING like old-school team work and after school activities to make them into responsible adults. read more

My daughter attended two classes..the second class being last night. Today I got a message stating that the classes have been cancelled. No refund offered. So now I'm out $46 for two classes that they decided to cancel but refused to refund back the parents the money. I'm more upset about the fact that every parent including myself purchase pom poms last night which clearly they knew last night that there was going to be no more classes. Also nobody could seem to get on the young champions North Attleboro Facebook page last night. So clearly they cancelled entire page because they knew they were cancelling the class! I feel like they stole from me. They Refused to refund at least the pom-poms back. I understand things happen and that's fine but when they cancel the program we shouldn't be out $46 a piece. As a company they should refund the money back. It shouldn't have come down to this. I will no longer sign my daughter up to be a part of anything that has to do with young champions ever again. read more

My child has been participating in Young Champion for 2 years now and has really enjoyed the experience. She has learned so much from coach Avery Yanez. We have been very pleased with the way she handles the class. She is always on top of her game! We keep coming back because she has been such an awesome teacher and my daughter enjoys having her as a coach. At competition we have had to stand in long lines, and have seen some questionable judging. However, this should not reflect on the coaches. It seems like the event organizers could use more help. read more

SO NOT HAPPY WITH YOUNG CHAMPIONS. We attended the Arcadia Location for several seasons. The reason we stayed was because my daughter built a good foundation with her friends. We loved our coach Monique she was great. But other than that the company is no good. Here are a few examples. Last season after competition we were gonna have an awards ceremony but the class was canceled because our instructor had to go fire another instructor. So instead the awards were handed out at competition as if were just a piece of paper. For some kids this is a big accomplishment. Well now we have another problem. Showed up to class this past Monday 6/30/2014 and there was a sign outside saying class is canceled for the summer. No phone call from the company by the way. Now we wasted time and gas to be turned down again. BEWARE IF THE CLASS IS TO SMALL THEY WILL CANCEL IT FOR THE SEASON. ALSO THEY ARE LACKING INSTRUCTORS SO YOUR CLASS MIGHT BE CANCELED BECAUSE THEY SENT YOUR TEACHER TO ANOTHER LOCATION THAT IS MORE WORTHY OF THEIR TIME AND $$$. So prepare your child to be let down if they love this class. Thank You, concerned parent. read more
