I've been coming to Young's since 2015/2016 and I always walk out loving my haircut. This man is skilled. Yes, he cuts more men's hair than women's, but that shouldn't make you shy away from having him cut your hair. I usually walk in and ask him to cut off the split ends and then do whatever he thinks would look good. I essentially let him tell me what I should do. I have curly hair, and a lot of people don't know how to cut curly hair to make it look good. But when I first came to him, I would straighten it, so he cut it for it to look good straightened:blowdried out. But the last two years, I've worn it curly almost all of the time. In August, I went in with it near my butt and just said I would like to keep it around chest length; he suggested long layers. They looked great! I had some as short as my chin, and then it was layered down to my mid chest. Last week I went in and he cut long layers but the shortest layer was at my shoulder. Again it looked great. I asked him for more bangs, and although I wanted straight across, he asked if I liked to wear it off to the side, which I said I used to, so he suggested curtain bangs. They are fuller than my prior bangs, which was exactly what I wanted, and I'm very happy with them. Young is super sweet. He even gave me some snacks to eat. We usually chat throughout the haircut- anything from his family, the Vietnam war, to Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune. If you haven't been here, I recommend you give it a try. Of note: - He is cash only. - Current women's haircut is $28. Men's is a little less. - It is walk-in only; you can't make an appointment. There are chairs to sit and wait. - It can get busy. Even though he has three chairs, it is only him. You can call ahead and ask him if he is busy. - There is free street parking as well as a small parking lot. - It is a very low key and casual spot. - he also cuts hair dry or sprays it; he doesn't wash it, so, I try to come in right after a shower. read more

Great haircut, no nonsense, and due to the pandemic, no line. A woman's haircut is $26, cash, although there's no shampooing or styling (wasn't really expecting it for $26 though.) Young is efficient, quick, and professional. We chatted for a while about the pandemic, and he mentioned that he had lost a lot of business and things had been slow as the majority of his clients had been young male professionals, either at the local colleges (UCLA and LMU) or working in the movie/tech industry in Culver City, and that since all of the closures and shutdowns, nobody was coming in anymore. It's a great, solid haircut, especially if you haven't had one in months and are looking really shaggy. I was the second client of the morning. After the first haircut (the lady), I thought it was my turn, but then her husband arrived and parked at the red line curb like acting VIP, which confused me because it should have been my turn. So, I thought, 'Maybe they're rushing for a family errand.' However, then the husband's friend showed up and had a haircut before me. As a result, I ended up waiting for 2 hours. 2 hoursss. My favorite go-to place for a quick cut. The service is great and this is noticeable because of how many people go there. The owner is personable and makes good conversation (if you're the talker type). However if you're the quiet type, he's also very respectful of that as well. The prices are also extremely reasonable (compared to most other places nowadays). After months of quarantine hair, I got so desperate to get a hair cut, I walked into Young's "barber" shop. When you think "barber", normally I associate this with men's cuts, so needless to say, I was hesitant. I used my son as a test subject and had Young cut his hair first. Turned out quite nicely! But the real test was cutting my waist length hair... although we did have a minimal communication barrier due to having to wear masks, he understood what I wanted and executed perfectly. All for only $26 for my cut and $14 or $12 for my son's. Compared to super expensive hair salons, it's a steal. However, it is really a no frills deal. For me to write a Yelp review I either need to be very happy or in complete shock over the experience. I can't comment on the service here because it didn't happen. After calling ahead to make sure I could bring in my 11yo for a cut I was greeted with a look of discomfort and "I don't cut that type of hair". After seeing the shock on my face, he tried to deflect by saying "do you want to wait 2 hours (there were 2 people waiting) like anyone would want to wait that long. I actually met the barber, Young, about 14 years ago when he used to run a barber shop in west LA. He was the go to barber for my brother and myself. After going to him for 2 years, we were sad to hear from him that he was closing his shop and going else where. Shortly after, my brother and I moved to Pasadena and of course found other places for haircuts. Well fast forward 12 years to 2018. I recently purchased a place in WLA area and was in search for my local goto barber. After moving into my new home I spent months trying multiple barbers, but always had either bad experiences or just wasn't really impressed with the cut at the price they were charging. So as I continued to search (mainly through yelp), I stumbled upon a place in Venice named Young Hair Salong; and thought to myself, "could it be? could the barber from 12 years ago be running this shop?" Sure enough, as soon as I walked into the salon, he looked at me and said I looked familiar but couldn't place where he knew me. He politely asked me to sit in the chair and asked me how I wanted my hair cut. I gave him a quick brief description of what I was looking for and he got straight to it. While he was working, we were talking and I started to explain how I knew him many years ago, at which point he started to ask me "do you have a brother? did he ride a motorcycle? was he in a pretty back crash at some point?" and I responded "Yes Yes Yes". So it was all coming back to him and we spent the entire time catching up. Seriously this really is a small world. Young spent a good amount of time on my hair making sure everything was as I wanted. He also explained to me that he would have to cut my hair shorter in certain areas to get the desired effect that I was looking for. He always made sure I was okay with the plan before he would proceed. The cut itself was really good and the price for the cut is $16 for men. I left paying $20 in total and was very happy with the entire experience. I hate having to share these little gems with everyone else because it always causes more waiting for me in the long run, but I have to say that Young Hair Salon deserves every single star given in this review. I FINALLY found my hair dresser in LA! After spending hundreds of dollars in various posh salons around town, little did I know that the stylist I've been looking for was just across the street from where I live! My reasons for 5 stars: - Mr. Young is very talented. Show him a picture and he will do just that and make it look good on you - Affordable! Ladies: $14, Men: $12 (cash only and he's worth tipping!) - He doesn't talk talk talk talk and rather gets the job done - Super convenient to where I live (across the street) - Very friendly, gentle with your hair, and cares to make you look good Like many of his customers, I initially found the place on Yelp and was skeptical when I walked in. His salon is a tiny room with only a few chairs, and little to no decor. Three men were ahead of me waiting for buzz cuts. But I listened to the Yelp reviews and gave it a go. 3 hair cuts later, Mr. Young is still my favorite. I recently chopped my long hair to a short slant, and it looks fantastic! He's been getting really popular and at one point had 6 people waiting! I suggest going there early when they open (10am I believe), or expect to wait at least an hour. First come, first serve I'm so glad that Mr. Young decided to open up his little shop. Don't judge a book by its cover - just give it a go and then decide whether it's your cup of tea :) read more

Absolutely the best barber I've been to in ages! The price is just the icing on the cake, $12 before tips. I never scheduled an appointment and never had to wait too long. Walk-ins welcome! Mr and Mrs Young are a super nice couple who work tirelessly to provide inexpensive haircuts to the community. Price is the big factor here. $14 for men and just $16 for women (as of Nov. 2015). Cash only. There's an ATM in the bodega 2 doors down. The shop is no-frills, in need of new paint and new hair model posters. But the barber seats are comfy and they keep their instruments relatively clean. There are a few drawbacks to their budget business model: 1) you never know how long you'll wait. Usually there's a long wait if you're coming at prime times (lunch hour, after work), but I've had to leave due to excessive waits at other times as well. 2) don't expect salon quality. If you have a simple and standard cut, perfect. But they aren't too familiar with current trends. I've also noticed a lot of people prefer to wait for Mr Young even if Mrs Young is available. Mr. Young is the best barber I have had. He is walk-in only, but he is worth the wait -- I've happily waited for 2 hours on a busy day, plus the traffic to Venice and ATM for cash, to get a cut from him and it's still worth it. As an east Asian, the Latino barbers don't really know how to cut our straight, thin hair as well. If you have straight hair, this is the place to be. Mr young is a magician with a pair of scissors, he flickers it around so seamlessly and effortlessly that im sure he could do it with his eyes closed. His technique is a pleasure to watch, so much that it makes the occasional wait time entertaining. His loud cackled laughs with customers color the room with enthusiasm. I've been coming here for over a year and i've lost track of the amount of compliments i've received on my hair. I have thick straight mexican hair that barbers and cheap stylists would whine and moan about since it is apparently the hardest to cut as they cant hide their mistakes, in retrospect the occasional insistence on using gel on my hair when i'd much rather wait to style it myself makes perfect sense. I have had to deny getting my head mangled by a nervous stylist more than a dozen times because she/he were covering their tracks.
