To visit a particular place or establishment and rate it down in comparison to others is unfair. This is the Vero Beach Farmers Market - not the Fort Pierce, Stuart or Fort Lauderdale Farmers Market. I've had an opportunity to visit a number of Farmers Markets throughout the country and have found the one in Vero Beach to be small, quaint and local to those they serve. Across from Humiston Park on Ocean Drive, this market is open early (according to Vero Beach standards) on a Saturday morning. With a slight breeze from the Atlantic Ocean, it never seems to get "too hot" for those visiting the various vendors. Local food - seafood, fresh bread and pastries, fruit, vegetables, honey, coffee, along with other healthy drinks - and even homemade dog biscuits are available. And yes, the Farmers Market is dog friendly. Young's Market and Rhonda's Seafood appear particularly popular as they always seem to have customers surrounding their stand. On my most recent visit, I enjoyed a cup of mushroom infused coffee. Locally grown plants and homemade crafts are available from various vendors. Tastefully displayed, the farmers market is not a flea market. It's not stuffed with garbage. For those visiting the Vero Beach area, this is also a wonderful opportunity to check out the unique beachside shopping district and restaurants within walking distance of the farmers market. Plenty of street parking and restrooms available at Humiston Park. I debated whether to rate the Vero Beach Farmer's Market 4 or 5 stars. Definitely worth a strong 4 plus stars, I rated them up a bit based upon the friendly atmosphere and seamless way the market is run. The Citrus Unlimited truck stopped in Cary, NC near Cary Crossroads and I popped in. $48 for some Sol Zest mandarins in a 20 lb. box and I'm back in the car and heading home. The box had about 50 or so pieces of fruit, all in pristine shape and condition. I peel a couple and pop some slices into my mouth and wow! So good, this fruit was super fresh and these Sol Zest mandarins might be the best citrus fruit I've had in my life.
