Visited this little shop today for the first time! Normally I like to go to the strip district for all my Korean food and noodle needs, but today I switched it up! Really good variety of things. Not overwhelming. Clean and organized and the owner is very kind and sweet Found a ton of great instant noodles & ramen-Buldak brand, Shin Ramen, the sorts. Got some sauces and restocked on a couple of seasonings like furikake and seaweed for my poke bowls and sushi. The best gem however, that this place carries, I have not been able to find anywhere else- is fish cakes!! Maybe it's just me but I can never find that pink and white swirl goodness anywhere! and I found it here! no swirl but perfect fish cakes like the kind they use at Ramen Bar! Yum. This place has many good reviews, however my experience was very different. For clarification I am a black woman . The lady looked horrified when I walked in, then she rushed me to buy when it is only 12pm. I then feel like one was watching me buying to ensure that I am not stealing. I select my option(a 7 dollar item) and she she says there is a 10 dollar minimum for a debit card. Which is not a legal minimum to impose on a debit card. read more

Best kimchi support the local spot!!!!! It's really cool they have been in Squirrel Hill for a long time and are family owned. Staff always greets you at the door and they have a good variety of stuff. read more

Love this place! Owner is really nice and unlike Seoul mart she'll actually talk to you even if you're not a FOB. Even though me and a lot of my friends are Korean American since we're not a picture perfect we usually get really weird service at Seoul mart. They have a lot more food that's geared towards people who like to cook and there's everything you need from appliances and small stone pots to make some dank stews, to an array of side dishes that even GP and KG don't often give you. The owner here is really friendly and welcoming. They offer a larger variety of dried noodles compared to other Asian groceries in the area. This is one of the only Korean groceries that has fresh sesame leaves in Pittsburgh. Street parking is almost always available as well. read more

I'm a big fan of Young's. It's a very authentic mom-and-pop Korean grocery store, something that's pretty rare in Pittsburgh. The place is smallish and definitely no H-Mart, but it has all the basic necessities of Korean cooking. Their kimchi is surprisingly good and the pork belly and chadol (thin beef brisket) I've bought there has always been tasty. They also have a small produce section that I believe is cheaper than Giant Eagle down the road and is usually of pretty good quality. My only complaint is that they're often sold out of sesame leaves whenever I go shopping, or the one or two that are left over are limp. (Dunking them in cold water for 30 mins perk 'em right back up, though.) read more

Young's carries produce, frozen foods (like various mandu and gyoza), candy, noodles, rice, and even has a housewares selection. There isn't too much variety. For instance, there wasn't too much variety in the fruit section when I most recently stopped in--there were apples, pears, Korean melons, and lemons (but no limes). The ramen and frozen dumpling selections are a little more extensive, as are the different soy sauces/vinegars/oils. Produce seems to be cheaper here than it is at the Giant Eagle a few blocks up Murray--compare eggplant, at 99 cents a pound here, and $1.99 a pound at the Giant Eagle, on the same day. I wouldn't come here to do all my grocery shopping, but just to stop in and get a few items that a regular supermarket doesn't have much of. I can't resist a box of Pocky now and then. read more

I really like Young's as an alternative to Seoul Mart, especially since it's in my neighborhood and I can just bike down. Not sure of they have Melon bars, but they seem to have equally everything else that SM has. In addition, the people are friendlier and don't have little kids running around on their toys through the aisles. I also like that they keep the door open in warm weather, it's so welcoming. If I ever need a bag of dumplings, condiments, or have a craving for neugori ramen, I know where to go. They are also one of the few places you can get kabocha squash (that amazing pumpkin they put in the pumpkin curry at bangkok balcony) in Pittsburgh in the fall. Oh and you can also get seedless cucumbers for alot less here than at geagle. read more

Typical family run Korean store. I like stopping in for the staples like large bags of crushed red pepper, ramen, and the traditional Asian snacks, you can't get everywhere else. Just one note, check for best buy dates on packages, some items obviously don't turn over frequently, and it's not always easy to determine how 'fresh' somethings might be, which I've noticed on more than one trip. read more

I came here to buy miso paste, as Giant Eagle doesn't sell it, and the Japanese grocery store on Ellsworth is closed on Mondays. This store had a few options, but I found the plain red miso I bought to be a little expensive ($4.99). read more

Young's Oriental Grocery Store - side of building - Grocery Near Me - Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

I really like Young's grocery store. It has everything you need, assuming your needs primarily revolve around seaweed and dried seafood. The vegetables are cheaper and nicer than the nearby Giant Eagle (a low bar), albeit with a much smaller selection. They have a compact fridge full of greens, herbs, peppers, and radishes. They also have a good selection of roasted seaweed snacks, a wide spread of fermented whatnots (kimchii, miso, doenjang, etc.), and an excellent aisle full of noodle-y options. I like wandering around this place. I usually find at least one product that I'm unfamiliar with per visit, be it some kind of benthic terror from their frozen fish freezers or some new wondrous kind of kimchi. Some of these discoveries are probably not repeat purchases, but I now regularly use Korean chili paste and chili flakes in my everyday cooking. read more

I LOVE YOUNG'S! I haven't been to any of the other Korean groceries, but I have no need to see any of the others. I've heard a couple of horror stories about the owners of the Korean grocery in Oakland, soooooo I'll stick with Young's, because I ADORE the Lees. They're super nice to me (they were a bit aloof my first few visits, but really warmed up... they're so cuuute) They have all the basic necessities for any Korean dish you'd like to make, and it looks like they carry quite a few things for other East & Southeast Asian cuisines. The produce is quite fresh, and cheaper than Giant Eagle up the street. Make sure your credit card purchase is over $10! I keep forgetting and I have to buy a box of ramen or Sac Sac... though I'm not really complaining about that. It's definitely no "H-Mart", but it gets the job done. read more

Meh, this place is okay. I went in to look for some Palm Corned Beef, knowing it was a long shot, because usually only bigger places (like the Oriental Market on McKnight Rd) have this delicious, fatty New Zealand import. After I browsed the store for a few minutes, an employee (maybe the owner?) asked me what I was looking for. When I told her, she said they didn't carry it, since it was an "American" food and the store only carries oriental groceries. Her attitude was pretty dismissive, which was a huge turn-off for me. I was never very impressed with this place, and after this encounter I won't go there again. The selection is small and the prices are too high. Maybe it's good if you really need certain ingredients, but I'd rather take my business to a place where there's more variety, better prices, and nicer staff. read more

The two women working at the store when I arrived, appx. 2PM on a Thursday could not even be bothered to answer back a hello. I went through the store looking for items which they were ambivalent to me finding. I would also not consider this a true Asian/Oriental market. They have primarily Korean products with a few Japanese thrown in. They do not have many of the condiments or ingredients needed for Thai or Cambodian food. I think they should market themselves as a Korean market like the other Korean store does as it means I would not have even gone their as they would most probably not have the Asian ingredients I needed, and they didn't. Also, many of the frozen items had freezer burn, which means they've been in stock much too long, the store itself did not have a sense of being all that clean. I cannot specifically state this as fact as I did not do any sort of inspection, it was just a general feeling. It would have been so much better if the ladies had been friendly as I would like to try cooking some Korean food and have had some experience in doing so. Young's is a small, family-run store that carries all essential Korean groceries (rice, kimchi, banchans, meat, and etc.). I stopped going to Seoul mart after I got fed up with the owners/expired items there... People at Young's are always friendly and helpful. It is so worth the drive, and I've not yet had trouble finding parking on the street. read more

This store has most all of the East asian fare you would need to stock your shelves and keep them that way. Jessica W captured the bulk of the inventory. You can't buy everything you need here for a month's groceries, but anything that you can pick up there you can know it is most likely a better price than Giant Eagle and you can feel good about supporting a local small business (produce is better and cheaper). I didn't see any Indian grocery items, so I think it's generally East Asian. read more

this is the best korean grocery store i've found in pittsburgh. great selection of meats, kimchi, noodles, and produce. seems clean and all the items i looked at had the "best if bought/used by" dates, which can be rare to find in asian grocery stores. the family that owns the store is also very nice! read more

I usually go to Lotus Food Co. down the strip district but I wanted to see what Young's was like.I have to say its nothing like Lotus but I've been looking all over the place for a Korean earthenware pot and they had one for only 6.99.There were a lot of Korean snack like choco pies and candy.japanese soda,and a few other things.Its very small but it will do if you can't drive all the way to Pittsburgh.but, I will only go again to buy Korean cookware read more
