Stopped by Young's Payless IGA and always appreciate how clean and well stocked the store is. It has that small town grocery feel but still carries a really good variety of items. The aisles were organized, easy to navigate, and everything felt well maintained. I also like that they carry unique products you don't always see at bigger chain stores. Their new scam is to charge more for using cash. They claim there are no pennies. As of 2025, there are approximately 114 billion pennies in circulation! They don't understand that using a credit card costs them. One would think they would give a cash discount, not charge more. read more

Shopped there while vacationing in Lodi for a graduation. Selection was good with some local fruits & vegetables for sale. Staff was super friendly. Cashier said discounts/sale prices were automatic so I didn't need to sign up for rewards/savings card. And, they utilize the hot sun out there by having solar panels installed over the parking lot so not only energy smart, but your car isn't steaming hot to get inside once done shopping for groceries. Store was clean & staff was super friendly! Much nicer people than the staff you have to deal with at other big name grocery stores here in CA. Close to where we were staying too. Definitely check it out if it's near where you're staying. read more

I've lived in this community for over 25 years and have always loved the Chinese deli...not sure what happened but my take out of Chinese went into the trassh...chicken so overcooked i couldn't chew it, chow mein so greasy there was an oil slick jon it...the worst...no close second....what happened? read more

Don't ask me how but my job brought me to this small town without phone service. Felt like I was out of state or in another decade but a friendly place nonetheless. The office at my job said they were gonna buy us lunch today but there was nowhere that delivered so a local suggested iga had the best burgers in town. That was followed by they're the only burger spot in town too.. what do we have to lose? So before lunch I left early to put in an order for 7 burgers. This place is actually a grocery store with a deli inside, it was news to me but hey.. let's roll with it. It took about 30 mins for my order to be ready but I had the time to spend, with that said I recommend calling in your order in advance. They don't have fries like a regular combo but they do have wedges as well as an assortment of chips available. The workers were very nice from the deli to the register. I bite into my burger and wedges and realized it was in fact the best burgers in town lol. Probably not the best burger of your life but you will not be disappointed especially if its a lunch break and you're hungry. My hats off to this place. read more

Priced very reasonable and the take out plates are filled to the brim. The fried rice, Mongolian beef and almond chicken are my favorites. Come here often and generally great service but...price from deli incorrect at checkout. Person at deli counter corrected and apologized but checkout clerk made poor excuse for increased price vs trying to figure it out. After correcting her, no apology or anything. Clearly she did not care if we left satisfied or not. Always goes back to lack of training in customer service. A store this pricey should invest in training. read more

I used to love this store. The staff are very friendly and the Chinese food is great. The problem is that they are not requiring customers or off duty staff wear masks. It was like the Twilight Zone in there. Half of the customers were not wearing masks. I don't like wearing masks either but we are in a pandemic and this is just selfish. Trying to checkout tonight, and 3 young guys running registers were all helping customers with their items, but too busy laughing and making jokes about the guy that had to work overnight and "he cried like a baby." If you're looking for a job, do not choose Payless. The management is neglectful and short sighted at best, some employees complain of not getting raises or promotions or just complain all the time, others are extremely annoying or say inappropriate things to customers. One even admitted that the rats are just rampant. I've lived in lockeford for years and Payless used to seem so amazing, the staff has been kind and helpful in the past and continues to try. But hearing what they put their employees through is just heart breaking, I've known some of them since they were children and to see them struggle like this is just sad. I seen one courtesy clerk cry today and absolutely breakdown. They deserve better and so does anyone deciding to work there. Do Better Young's. You lost a customer today and I hope this educates anyone looking to work there read more

Grocerywise you aren't going to find many choices in Lockeford, but this isn't a Lockeford review!! It's a Payless review that starts and ends at CHINESE FOOD. There is really only one reason to roll to Lockeford and that's the Lockeford Meat & Sausage. When you do though, you might as well pick up some good tasting, uber cheap CHINESE FOOD in the back of this grocery store. You'll be surprised at how much you get. Go to Payless, hit on the country girl cashier doesn't know more than 4 dudes exist in the world, and get CHINESE FOOD. That's all you need to know. read more

Wow, the short checker dude with a short pony tail and earrings was a little snot. The store occasionally has a sewer smell near the bathrooms and deli. Gross. Packaged produce and veggies are often out dated. Unfortunately, it's the only grocery store in town. I prefer to use Youngs when I'm not able to go to Lodi. read more

Love my local Payless! Their meat counter is the best in the area & I would drive out here just for that even if I didn't live nearby. Chinese food is usually great too. Awesome wine selection. They do lack some specialty items that normally I'd have to drive all the way into town to Safeway to get & sometimes even all the way to Stockton! But lately they have been special ordering some items in for me, making my life much easier! read more

Every time I've gone here, I am incredibly impressed with the quality and quantity of Chinese food for the price. The deli is wonderful, they have asparagus cooked many different ways this time of year. Even though there was a line ahead of us, we were in and out in 10 minutes. Can't beat the price AND I highly recommend the garlic chicken, chow mein and many other favorites! We have a family of 8 here and I fed us all with $30! Plus, I guess you can text in your order now! You only go here if you don't feel like driving into town, unless you want meats or Chinese. They used to have an awesome produce section, but now it is complete garbage. Everyone I have talked to is so disappointed with it, some of the produce they are trying to sell should be thrown away! And get this, it's the same price if not more! They do have the best meat section of any grocery store I go to, and I still specifically go there for those things. The Chinese food may be the best thing they have to offer. I love it, and I know I'm not the only one! It's price is pretty low for how good I think it is. No one beats their Pork Fried Rice or Oyster Sauce Beef. Recently i've noticed there are a couple friendly checkstand clerks, but most of them have been just rude. Not even a hello when I walk up to the register!? Ridiculous. read more

Wanted to support the local businesses but this place is terrible. The produce has mold on it because it just sits there. The employees are rude, I dont know if its because they might be tired when I go here but it still sucks. Last, their prices are ridiculous. Went here for upcoming Thanksgiving and they are charging $60 for 16lb turkeys. $60.....common walmart charges $0.40 per pound for their Turkey's and they are the same brand. read more

What a great market in Lockeford. There is a Chinese deli toward the back of the market. Wow quite popular. The foil chicken was very moist but the lemon garlic fried chicken was absolutely fresh flavorful and moist. read more

Chinese Food Review Only.... This is the place I go for cheap, fast Chinese food when I'm driving home from grocery shopping in the valley. Takeout is something like $5.50 for a clamshell packed SO full of food that its unbelievable until you see it. Usually there are about 5 entrees to choose from on the steam table. Almond chicken, broccoli beef, mongolian beef, sween n' sour pork and ....I forget. chop suey, maybe. I am a fan of the Mongolian Beef & sweet n' sour. I never liked chow mein until I had some of my hubby's. Now I usually forego the fried rice for the chow mein. The fried chicken is really delicious. You can also special order from the menu but I never had. The to-go is the best deal by a mile. The staff is usually pretty friendly, even when the like gets long. For on the fly, Chinese takeout, Payless Market's deli cant be beat (on my drive home, anyways). read more

So I go to the deli to order Chinese food and this young skinny dumb broad always gives me a problem every time I go and wait in line. She always helps somebody else out knowing I'm waiting in line and this happened twice on different occasions. Second of all I wanted a combo plate with Fried Rice, shrimp and broccoli. Then I asked for fried chicken also she said I only can have one entrée and I was like well I want chicken too I even told her I would pay extra, she said she cant do that. What kind of service is that? If I want chicken I want chicken. And last she always serves me skimpy with a half a scoop of everything. Please someone re-train this broad. read more

Good deli in the back. The meat is good and the sandwich and Chinese deli is usually decent. The fried asparagus from the Chinese deli is always good. I don't shop here often because the prices are very high and the produce section isn't great. It's the closest store to me so when I do go it's because I don't have time to go to Lodi. Sometimes the produce they do have looks old or bad. The other day they had out boxes and boxes of molded strawberries. Staff is friendly and helpful though. read more

Beware if you choose NOT to buy a bag you might get accused of stealing and shoved back into the store. That is what happened to me and my husband on 1/3/17. We have been coming once a month to do our meat shopping for over 30 years and choose not to purchase a bag because we had our freezer bag in the trunk. So as we were walking out the owner was walking in and started yelling at my husband that he was stealing and shoved him 3 times. He could of just asked for the receipt but instead just choose to assume we were stealing. We filed a police report. Nevertheless young's payless has lost us as customer as well as my mother-in-law and brother. read more

This has been my go-to grocery store for decades when I visit family. I love the fresh produce section, and the speciality items offered. The bakery is also quite extensive. We also like their local wine section. We always have the Chinese take-out at least once while we are in town. The employees and management are very helpful and courteous and I love how they always offer to take your groceries to the car...you don't see that service anymore. I prefer to support my local town and they have continued to do a great job of selection, sales and great customer service. read more
