It is so great to buy from a real butcher. Around here, there is Kings and another different butcher in Roseville that just are head and shoulders above. When I am cooking for company, these are the only two places I will get meat from. King's is not selling competition quality meat, but all that comes from them and goes through my smoker gets raves. Staff is super friendly, and very understanding when I am picky. The whole vibe of a butcher shop that predates the boxed meats most meat counters rely on is exciting for a meat nerd like me. Prices are good, good enough to warrant the drive up there. They are going to open a store in EDH Town Center in Sept 2026, but not clear that store will be big enough to provide all of the services and selection in their current store. Go try their original store. I expect to continue making the drive! read more

I'm not 100% sure as far as going to meat places I've been to many. Insides on the middle size no big not to small I felt pricing was a bit high but I have heard all great things. Back in 1984, the big slogan across America was "Where's The Beef?". Well I think that has been answered as this is one of the best places I've purchased beef in quite some time. Even though the majority of meat I purchase is at a grocery store (Raley's, Nugget, Safeway, etc.) or a warehouse-type store (Costco, WinCo, etc.), you just can't beat the quality of a family-owned butcher shop. This takes me to the one and only "Kings Meats" that has only been in operation since 2020 but in that amount of time, they've gained hundreds of new customers. Located in the El Dorado community of Diamond Springs, they are relatively close to Highway 49 and roughly 10 minutes south of Placerville and Interstate 50. I came here during the afternoon of Friday 5/16/25 at around 2:45pm. And as expected, the parking lot here was quite full with vehicles stocking up on some amazing meats. Keep in mind that if you do plan on coming here (especially from out of town), they are closed on Monday/Tuesday but open from 10am-6pm Wednesday-Saturday and 10am-5pm on Sunday. Once entering the building, I was absolutely amazed and quite impressed with how clean and tidy this place was. There was at least 4 employees working behind the counter and they all took their time in making sure every customer was helped. As for the meats, this place has everything you're looking for; ground beef, ground chuck, skirt steak, sirloin steak, New York steak, ribeye, spare ribs, pork belly, pork tenderloin, bacon, sausage, hot links, and so much more than I didn't even mention. During my visit, I stocked up and spent WAY more than I had anticipated; at least $200 worth of food. I mainly bought steak, ground beef, bacon, and some pork. Jump forward 3 weeks later (after a Memorial Day BBQ & other dinners) and the quality of their food is absolutely top-notch. It was so good to a point where it is better than a premium steakhouse or high-end burger joint. And for those pescatarians, they even have a decent seafood selection here (crab, salmon, oysters, etc.). Truth be told, I used to do my meat shopping at V. Miller (in Sacramento) until they closed in March 2025 as well as a few other butcher shops in the area. After a fellow Yelper told me about Kings Meats, I took his advice and glad I did. The quality (and even very reasonable prices) of the cuts of meat are some of the best I've had in years. Whether you grill, pan fry, or roast your meat, I am a firm believer that this place will meet your expectations. With that said and done, I am giving "Kings Meats" a picture perfect five-star rating. read more

The picture should say enough. Clearly an attempt to hide spoilage. Bad business practices means we throw away $29 worth of ground beef and $22 of bratwurst... both of which smelled and were clearly spoiled. Both of which we bought yesterday and put in the fridge at home within 10 minutes. I have been here twice now and the service is always great. I used to go to the meat market in Folsom next to trader Joe's and it was so expensive I almost decide to go vegetarian, but my body would hate me for that. I have purchased meat for my dog which he likes very much and the prices vary from $8-$10. I purchased the individual cheesecake and will not get it again. It was stiff on top and it was not very good unfortunately. I am not sure what I think about the meat only because I have not tried a lot of the other cuts of meat besides sausage, chuck roast, sirloin, filet and ribeye. They were all good, but I will have to return to try other things in the future. The ambiance was clean and organized and Everytime they sell something, they yell out to the butcher what they have sold. I was happy with the prices and service even if I payed over $200. read more

To Dustin P. Hi Dustin I was a butcher for many years back in the 70's That picture of the ground meat you posted that was brown is a sign of oxidation not spoilage. That happens after the meat blooms. It isn't the best look but it is normal for this to happen. The red meat was NOT dyed it was that color because it was that color. As far as eating this meat it is still safe to eat but doesn't look the best. I am sure the butcher would happily take it back and grind you some fresh beef if you asked. No butcher puts brown meat in the counter. Why would they risk the bad press over a a small purchase like a pack of hamburger. read more

What can I say, but King's Meat wins with my family. My sons can't come up without stopping in at King's Meat. Their selection of "wild" meat selection can't be beat. My college-aged sons and high school aged son and their friends are on some weird meat kick exploration and this is their destination. Service and quality is top notch. read more

I am concerned about the drug addict behind the counter (I was one. I know the difference). Listless, confused, eyes blood shot and unable to speak clearly or fully comprehend what it was I was looking for. This concerns me. 10/12/2023: Kings Meats' Marquis and its entrance are simple yet, impressive. Moreover, upon entering the shop, the meat selections were proudly displayed and pleasantly surprised, I discovered a few meat cuts were on sale as well. I selected purchasing a top sirloin and stew meat because I needed planning several dinners being cooked in advance due to my inundated schedule. Upon broiling the top sirloin, I was elated there were no gristle found--just lean, high-quality beef; the stew meat was tender as well. I like to rotisserie a prime rib and have gotten them from the local grocery store with less than stellar results. So, I decided to try a local butcher this time. Bought a 5.5 lb prime cut prime rib roast and put it on the rotisserie today, slow cooked it and basted it with high hopes. Unfortunately it was no better than the local grocery store. As you can see from the pics, it is a well marbled piece of meat... it was, however, cut unevenly so one end was 1/4" thinner than the other... When BBQing, i had to compensate by cooking the thin half of the steak over cooler coals... It was a very tasty steak... Was it worth $35? hmmmmmmm... Yes... I'll definitely do it again... Not to shabby of a spot. Prices are high, but that's to be expected with a small mom and pop shop that specialize in quality. Sad to see the food truck missing the last few weeks. They don't butcher game meat. But they do special order or do bulk orders if asked. The food, sausages and meatloaf are great. I've ordered and purchased meat here at least once a month for the last year. I jump on the sales when available. The people behind the counter are always friendly And helpful. I found KM through a recommendation from a good friend. Wasn't sure what to expect, but thought it would be your typical BBQ joint with burgers, tri-tip and pulled pork. Essentially it is, except KM steps up to the plate with quality and quantity. The main part of the business is essentially a butcher shop with different types of meats and cuts. They have specialty sauces including their BBQ sauces, the usual types of potato/mac salads and a few unique desert items. Outside of the business is a trailer turned into a make shift food trailer. The menu is simple, yet there are a lot of really good food choices, which makes it hard to decide because you want to try multiple items. The set-up is also simple with ice chests upon the ground for your drinks items and picnic tables for outside seating only. Although I was a lone eater, there were several other customers I shared the table with which made for a nice friendly atmosphere and conversation. I ordered the BBQ Bacon Burger and a regular order of tots. The BBQ Bacon Burger was no less than amazingly delicious. The burger itself was cooked perfectly on the lighter side of medium, was super juicy and plump. The burger had the usual toppings of lettuce, tomato, pickles, and because it's a BBQ Bacon Burger, it also had thick, crisp bacon, onion straws and BBQ sauce. I had to cut the burger into two halves and smash each half down in order for me to take a proper bite, but when I did, it was love at first bite! Everything a person hopes a burger would be was this burger...well, at least in my opinion anyways. Now I'm a big kid at heart and whenever I get the chance to have tots, I take advantage of that. These were some of the best prepared tots I've had. The regular tots are enough for 3 people to eat and the crispiness.....oh the crispiness! The tots were fried to crispy perfection and even though I was full, I kept eating them because it should be a crime to leave even just one tot uneaten, especially when they are prepared this well. For lunch be prepared to wait, the lines can get quite long. The staff is super friendly and if you have a hard time deciding on what to order, just ask, the staff will provide their fav's and they also have daily specials available. The restrooms are port-a-potties, so be prepared for that, if this is an issue for you, but they were clean, so not a bad experience for me. If you want to experience some amazing food, in a friendly atmosphere, then King Meats is a MUST STOP when in/near the Placerville/Diamond Springs area. Best butcher and meat in town! The dry aged beef is ridiculously good. We smoked burgers with our Traeger and my husband said it was the best burger he's ever had. We usually purchase Snake River Farms meats and the quality here far surpasses their beef. Staff is super friendly and helpful. Definitely makes the trek from Pollock Pines worth it. My husband and I love Kings Meats! They are a bit pricier than the regular grocery store but their quality of meat is excellent and makes it worth the extra $. They have a variety of products and even do speciality items like charcuterie platters- so awesome! We recently went in a few days before Christmas because wanted to get some beef tenderloin for Christmas dinner but they didn't have any available, so instead they told us to come back a few days later and said they would have an order of it ready and packaged just for us. They take Covid 19 seriously. Very great selection of meat. Their pork ribs are the best we ever had. Not the cheapest you can get, but you get what you pay for. Only problem we encountered was that if you come around lunch time parking is a problem because of the take out food trailer. read more
